  1. It’s cool. The ones only needed three plays this summer.
  2. So far, Philly seems intent on making us look like a well-oiled machine.
  3. Nails from Narveson. It was a gimme, but missing a gimme got Carlson his walking papers, so still good to see.
  4. We’re going to need quite a bit more from the O-line for this season to go where we’d like it to. But, this is basically extended preseason so, that’s to be expected.
  5. Guess DBs will be redirecting wideouts with impunity tonight
  6. Yeah, hope they don’t spend my $7 all in one place. I’ll be cancelling by about 11pm this evening. I know the whole Sunday Ticket thing has become a legal fiasco, but you have to wonder where the limit is in the way the league can continue to nickel and dime fans before curbing demand for the product. They evidently haven’t hit it yet.
  7. Yeah, and I believe it’s still possible to get Yoho on board for the postseason if they wanted to get nuts. They can petition the league office to allow it as an injury swap, if I understand it correctly. But I don’t expect them to try it.
  8. This is true, but recent history being what it is, it’s going to take more than a few games pounding on weak bullpens and position-players pitching to convince people around here that this is a fundamentally better offense than the one that flamed out of the last few postseason appearances.
  9. But hey, with football on Friday night, I can at least have something different than baseball to complain about.
  10. Almost certainly. And I’d have been mildly surprised at that in March. And yet…when a team sits with this kind of differential this late in the year, another participation medal looks a little tinny…
  11. They’ve been better overall than previous years, but Turang being only average, and Contreras getting a little tired down the stretch, and Hoskins doing nothing, and Perkins starting to look more like a pumpkin than Cinderella, and everybody else in the OF over drinking age being completely punchless, AND Yelich gone, all at the same time? That sure doesn’t feel like a winning postseason formula. I’m just glad the tournament doesn’t start tomorrow.
  12. I’ll care about the Cubs once they’re the confirmed WC matchup. For now I don’t want the mental narrative for the offense to become that they are scuffling down the stretch. That seems like a bigger issue, they need some confidence.
  13. I mean, it almost worked. He made some good pitches and ended up getting a ground ball. But even if it had worked, that wouldn’t have made it the right call. I just don’t get it.
  14. And the levers are all wrong again. Get it out of your system, Murph
  15. This lineup has about a Yelich-sized hole in it.
  16. Can we just not do extras? Please and thank you.
  17. As I understand it, it was supposed to shorten the game and keep things lively. It was always for fan service, nothing more.
  18. So that whole inning was the definitive case study in the perils of giving your opponent a free out.
  19. It is extremely exciting to see where the brass thinks this team is at. When Gute starts letting a bunch of his own draft picks go, shortens the leash on non-performers (especially kickers), and decides we don’t have as much roster room for UDFA project types, that tells me two things: one, the roster is full of talent to the point that even improving on the margins is getting tougher, and two, it is go time. I expect a couple bumps in the early going as the defense finds its legs (I think we probably drop the opener in Brazil, and maybe even the home debut, too—don’t panic!) but if this team is healthy, they should be right where they need to be in December.
  20. Impressive work from Mr. Wilson.
