  1. I mean, I’m not saying Canha is on the Jonathan Schoop trajectory or anything, but, he’s been kinda brutal in the early going…
  2. That’ll play. Makes me wish we had this pitching staff with next year’s club bringing on Black and Chourio with a healthy Mitchell. That might just be enough to make the brain trust hang on to Burnes this offseason. My goodness, the fights we’ll have on here…
  3. We are officially on positive run differential watch. Don’t screw this up, Chafin!
  4. So, can we just schedule some more Rockies series, or what? That’s a thing, right?
  5. As the Pirates hang 6 earned runs in 2 and 2/3rds on Spencer Strider of all people, I’m suddenly not super bummed about a split with them this weekend. Yikes.
  6. I mean, I get this sentiment, but the Brewers have been a top-10 team by wins since 2010 (we’re ranked 9th, in fact, a bit better than Houston). By any measure besides pennants (of which we have one, all-time), this is the most successful era in team history. It is not like the organizational approach has been self-evidently incorrect—it has been, in fact, wildly successful. The only small-market teams that have been at or above our level are the Guardians and Rays. So if someone wants to say we need to do an organizational self-scout and hold those two franchises up against what we’re doing as we look for marginal improvements, then ok, I’m with you. But if we think our problem is that we don’t build our teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, and Red Sox (and, to be clear, I’m not saying you’re doing this, @Bulldogboy), then we need to stay clear-eyed about what is truly possible. We can’t be bullet-proof everywhere, so the question is, where do we seek compromises? I’ve seen slugging teams that couldn’t buy competent pitching, and recently, we’ve had outstanding run-prevention and anemic offenses. It sucks, but that’s the nature of the beast for us.
  7. On the granular level, I can’t be too upset with this. If this result holds, the Crew would still be 7-3 in 10 games against the Pirates. That is about as good as you can ask for, even against a terrible team. Of course, the thing that drives you nuts is the overall context of an offense that has been moribund for weeks. The commentary about Canha and Santana being good eyes at the plate and good on base guys—and then going and striking out and not getting on base—while Adames continues his walking nightmare at the plate is just a tough watch right now. I don’t think the offense is as bad as they look recently, but then again, it’s getting late, and I remember thinking similar things the last two years. Might not be a bad time to just check box scores for a while and come back if/when they start heating up.
  8. Thank goodness…it’s weird to say we stole one when we outhit them by a county mile, but…
  9. I think Burnes has earned it, especially against the Pirates. If our ace can’t buckle down and get that out against that hitter, what are we even doing here?
  10. I mean. That third strike to Yelich is only controversial because the tv strike zone is comedically inaccurate at times. Yelich is a tall dude. That was practically belt-level. Gotta swing there.
  11. …or maybe one of those guys heads a little further north? Nah, probably just Nashville.
  12. This is what killed them down the stretch last year. They kept losing to bottom feeders, and their surprisingly solid numbers against playoff teams were entirely cancelled out. Can’t let that keep happening this year.
  13. Probably tells us what the Sox wanted for Jimenez, if that’s what they got for Burger. Interesting.
  14. Read the original post I’m replying to. “If it fails” being the operative phrase. I’ll thank you not to call me a Vikings fan again. 😉
  15. The "So what?" is the possibility of a protracted rebuild. CC is already hinting at stepping away, that would probably put the last nail in the coffin. The stadium upgrade debate is getting acrimonious politically--a sharp downturn in the franchise's outlook isn't going to help that. Worst case scenario: Nashville Brewers? No thanks. I'll take long-term stability, thank you very much.
  16. Right, but there's still an offseason... I don't see the need to get dramatic and say they are definitely waiting until next year's deadline, or not going to trade them at all.
  17. So, what if Arnold now goes to the White Sox and says, "Look, the Cubs are trying to go for it--you don't want to see them in the playoffs again while you have a down year, right? Let's do this Eloy trade at our price and in exchange, you can have the satisfaction of the keeping the Cubs down a while longer. Shall we sign?" Who says no?
  18. Ok, but Burnes and Woody aren't free agents after this year, so this seems slightly premature in its conclusion.
  19. Standings and payroll = analytics? And I recall you being rather adamant that people cannot predict the future, but you seem awfully sure Candelario will return better performance than Santana + Canha. Two months isn't a very long time to evaluate--I wouldn't be so sure about that.
  20. wrc+ 65 🤢 wrc+ 16... 🤮
  21. It has also been reported that Cohen is paying Canha's salary, so the Brewers are only responsible for the prorated league minimum. That might help them swing another deal without a contract being too much of an obstacle... EDIT: H/t to @JefferyLeonard and @KeithStone53151 who I just saw mentioned this above.
  22. He'll fit right in with the other "progress to the mean" candidates in the bottom half of the lineup, then!
  23. I don't see why this would necessarily preclude an Eloy Jimenez move, since Jimenez wasn't realistically going to play in the field much, anyway. But if this is it, and if they aren't going to try Black for the stretch run, then that may very well indicate that the front office sees this as a team in limbo at present. Tepid offensive reinforcements in case they catch lightning in a bottle in September/October, but don't go for broke. That may be the right call strategically, but it isn't exactly Christmas morning... I'd be very interested in knowing what the offers are for Jimenez at this moment.
