  1. THIS ^^^ And if we're talking about Ruth and Cobb, you have to go back about 90-110 years ago. Players back then played for love of the game, obviously not for the paltry salaries practically all of them could only make during those times. How many players from today would be as motivated and continue to play baseball if they could only ever hope to make the same pittance, and not the boatloads of cash they do today?
  2. Actually, according to the article, shifting did not affect Shaw negatively at all, in fact he was 'excellent' against it...
  3. Very interesting read. I also just read up on that new stat DRC+ as well, which has Shaw ranked at #24 in all of MLB for 2018 with a 132 value. The stat loves Khris Davis, ranking him #19 overall with a 135 value --- https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/sortable/index.php?cid=2762831
  4. Without Choi's extra-inning pinch-hit, game-winning double against the Padres in the opening game of the season, we don't win the division. That alone elevates him above 'suck-i-tude'.
  5. The guy played in all of 12 games with Milwaukee and had just 32 PAs. Talk about a small sample size. Even with that, he had 2 doubles, 2 homers, slugged .500, and drove in 5 runs. Wish all our guys sucked that much.
  6. Brewer starters have thrown just TWO complete games under Counsell since he was named manager on May 4, 2015 - one by Taylor Jungmann on 7/11/15, and the other by Jimmy Nelson on 6/18/17 Complete games thrown by all MLB starters: 2015 - 104 2016 - 83 2017 - 59 2018 - 42 The number of complete games in all of MLB has been drastically declining as well during Counsell's tenure, but the Brewers have been WAY below average in that department
  7. Brewers did not make a pick
  8. I don't think I've really noticed what you're saying about right turns, but absolutely on left turns. My wife is notorious for that, and it drives me nuts. And there are a couple intersections where I live in which I've been in the position of the yellow vehicle in the picture, and I can't believe just how many people nearly hit me while making that left turn. Thankfully it has never actually happened.
  9. Not that it matters, but that particular video came out almost a year and a half ago.
  10. Never saw him play, and he was out of baseball by the time I was old enough to follow the sport, but I do remember that 1969 season and that 209 OPS+ that he posted, which is tied for 30th on the all-time list. My friend and I played APBA Baseball for Windows almost every weekend in the late 90's, and we'd draft teams from a pool of each franchise's great single-season players, and that 1969 McCovey season always showed up near the top of the list for first basemen.
  11. TheCrew07. And yes, he was a he. I don't think he still checks in anymore. At least... I haven't noticed him or any posts by him. He hasn't posted here in over 2 years unfortunately. I loved reading his stuff. It's ironic that as soon as soon as Stearns started righting this ship by acquiring talent throughout the system, TheCrew07 stopped posting, as that was something I seem to remember him always clamoring for.
  12. If the '82 Cardinals can win a series down 3 games to 2, why the hell can't we? Come on offense, get your head out of your ass!
  13. How was the timing? It's frustrating if one is several seconds ahead of the other. I'm a Brewer fan living in California, and I don't have live TV of any sort, which means I have to rely on streams from Reddit. I DO have an MLB.tv subscription though. I queued up the video stream and muted it, then opened the WTMJ stream in another browser tab. Timing was off a bit at first, but I was able to sync them almost perfectly after a couple minutes by pausing one or the other.
  14. Last night during the game, I muted the TV announcers and listened to Uecker instead - it was glorious.
  15. It was game 3 in which Kotsay started in CF and hit his homer. Saint Louis scored 4 in the opening frame, and Kotsay's poor play on this fly ball opened the floodgates --- --- the Cards wound up hanging on for the win, 4-3 --- https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SLN/SLN201110120.shtml
  16. ...it would mean we wouldn't have Schoop, and he wouldn't have hit the grand slam off Bumgarner, and we wouldn't be where we are right now.
  17. I wasn't sure where that was going when it started, but I was laughing my ass off by the end
  18. Kratz is my favorite player on this team - a guy who's been all over the place in his career, with little MLB experience, at age 38 becomes a big part of the Brewer season. Great story, very happy for him.
