  1. Chacin pretty much matching Arrieta and besting the rest by far. And Chacin is doing it for about $22 million LESS per year than Jake. Stearns and his team know what the hell they're doing.
  2. The Brewers to this point have been shutout 10 times on offense. They've scored just 1 run eight times, and just 2 runs thirteen times. And despite all that, they are STILL in 1st place, with the second-best record in the NL, and 6th-best in baseball. Pitching ain't the problem. Even if you were to plug Sandy Koufax in his prime into the rotation, you can't win if you can't score. The offense is far and away what needs improvement.
  3. Reminds me a lot of when Ben Hendrickson's dad was posting on here trying to convince everyone his son was the next Cy Young candidate.
  4. Can we now admit that the Lind trade didn't 'suck'? --- viewtopic.php?f=63&t=33547&start=40&p=966788&view=show#p966788
  5. I thought Missaki was throwing again and close to coming back? Did he have a setback? I'm curious about this as well. I've been interested in Missaki since the day he was acquired in the Lind trade, but the longer he remains inactive, the less hope I have that we'll ever see him pitch.
  6. It's a damn shame that Dubon tore that ACL, because he certainly would've been called up to the bigs by now. He wasn't walking at all, but the .343 average and .574 slugging he was sporting at COS definitely warranted a look. I just hope he's able to come back fully next year from the injury. When is Saladino coming back?
  7. Nottingham just turned 23 and has torn up AAA so far this year. Hard not to be encouraged by his .345/.412/.621/1.033 line, especially after posting a .695 OPS in AA last year. He probably would've been called up to MLB over the past few weeks had he not been hurt. By all accounts he has majorly improved his defense.
  8. With the Brewers sitting in first place with a 4.5 game lead, the best record in the NL, and tied for the third-best record in baseball, I just got a very good laugh reading through some of the comments that were made in the Alex Cobb signing thread --- viewtopic.php?f=63&t=36521&hilit=cobb "Not happy. 17aav is low compared to Arrieta. I think he's worth it and we scrooged this one." "Lynn and Cobb look to be some serious bargains. I’d love to know what happened inside our FO after the Cain Yelich deals. Going into a promising season with our OF/1B and that rotation seems to be a real disconnect." "We can say what we want but on the surface, imo, we really screwed up the pitching moves (or lack of) this offseason." "sure glad Stearns dealt the high end of the prospect pool to help an already above average part of the big league club and didn't bother helping out the weakest part of the team. awesome." "I’m not seeing smart at all here. On paper, this is a very bad rotation. That’s why they play the games of course but this sure looks like unfinished business and not a smart plan at all." "Lots of teams have question marks in the rotation." -- "Yes, they are called non-contenders." "This is a fringe playoff team as is. If things go a fairly positive playoffs, if things go fairly negative 500. You add cobb you change that narrative to... this is a playoff team"
  9. Great article. All I have to say is THANK GOD the Mets rebuffed the Gomez trade! Hear hear. There are a lot of stats in the article to blow you away about Hader, but my favorite is: ... That's an AVG of .013, if you're keeping score at home.Mind-blowing. Love this quote too -- "Thus far, the southpaw has been the most dominant member of any bullpen in baseball, in this or ANY year. Hader is doing things on a per-batter basis that haven’t been done..." I mean, that is well over 100 years of baseball. Cherish Hader folks - he is definitely something special!
  10. Way more than we'd be willing to pay, if Bumgarner became available he would be the #1 target on the block and there would be a massive bidding war for him. No indication that the Giants are looking to sell in the mediocre NL West anyway. I think there would be an absolute riot in San Francisco if the Giants traded Bumgarner.
  11. Great article. All I have to say is THANK GOD the Mets rebuffed the Gomez trade!
  12. Gennett. The guy leading the NL in batting average at .340 On the team with the worst record in the NL. He's not a difference maker.
  13. Bunting with the shift on? I thought that was one of those 'unwritten rules'. That isn't very classy Cardinals.
  14. Aguilar is no Prince Fielder defensively at first base.
  15. Yeah I've thought about that also. Stearns has done an amazing job maximizing value and picking up hidden gems via several trades from many different teams the past couple years. Would he really get a reputation around baseball as someone not to trade with because, no matter what players are involved, the likely outcome will be that the Brewers win the trade and the other guy comes out on the short end? The Brewer scouts and analytics team appear to be on a whole other level compared to most, so if Milwaukee wants one of your players that doesn't seem like anything special to you, would that send a red flag to that team that perhaps maybe there is more to their player than they think because Milwaukee is interested?
  16. Brewers definitely reaping the early rewards on this trade so far. In addition to Brinson: - Jordan Yamamoto pitched today for the first time all year in A ball - Isan Diaz is hitting .197 for AA Jacksonville thus far in 147 AB's - Monte Harrison doing ok for AA Jacksonville to this point - .251/.322/.440/.762 in 191 ABs
