Shouldn't be too difficult - they are a better team than anyone in the NL Central right now... No more extra inning games - don't want to wear out their staff. Beat them twice - tick them off, but do it quickly too.
Lyles looks like a very confident pitcher out there tonight. Working quickly - good command of his big sweeping curve ball. Pleasantly surprised. I missed the first couple innings, but nice 4th and 5th frames.
Lyles and Pomeranz are total gap fillers. Black and Faria have legit upside, though. The only determination you can make right now on the trades is "we'll see." Spot on. Gives the staff a shot in the arm, without giving up Moose or Grandal.
2 months to go, just stick with a consistent lineup with a short bench. Play your starters these last 2 months and maybe they get on a collective roll. Give Braun his usual rest, but don’t mess with anything else. We still have a very talented group of hitters. They will have to carry this team to as far as they go.
Maybe? Black is 29. If he has that much potential, what is taking him so long to stick bigs? Pretty sure he's had a couple TJ surgeries. I believe they were both prior to age 26. Relatively healthy since then.
Yeah that makes the trade so much better. Rather than replenishing the farm system with Moose/Grandal returns Still an hour left ... those moves could still happen. None of the moves made are "all in" moves. These move so far feel like they meet 2 objectives. Fill out our pitching roster in response to all the injuries suffered and to create depth going into next season. These aren’t the all in lets go for it in 2019. Saying that, it matches the results on the field so far. Tough spot to be in for the decision makers. Still time to add a quantity starter or closer, but do we have assets to give up and make it fit.
Good comp. I would still like to add that clear cut back of the pen closer, so that Hader can get back to his role of last season. Still time, I guess, but do we pay the price or fold ‘em and call it a day.
Just read an interesting article on Black. Hits 104 on the gun. Has one of the highest spin rates on his slider in MLB. Top 20 in MLB last season in exit velocity. Coming off 2 TJ’s. Control issues. Very volatile. Sounds like the trendy bullpen hard thrower type that needs to be taught how to locate.
In the spirit of bringing back pitchers after moving on ... Cubs will counter with Mike Montgomery. Likely that Stearns discussed this MM with the Royals?
Another way to look at the current pitching staff... Remember last season when the Brewer Brass seemingly had the difficult task of deciding which pitchers to keep off the post season rosters? This season just think how difficult will it be to decide which pitchers to place on the postseason roster. What a difference a few months makes!
Arizona probably feels like they could have 4 on the board with how hard they have struck some of those pitches. Between Cain and some nice infield work/DP’s, the D has been the story of this game. Give Davies credit for not giving in and sticking to his game plan.
