  1. Is it reasonable to ask who CC trusts more in the 8th and 9th? JJ or Hader. Would he pitch Knebel against say Muncy in the middle innings in relief of Chacin, come back with JJ as the bridge to the end of game to Hader throwing possibly 2+ to close it out? Or would he go with Hader against Muncy in the middle innings? I go with Knebel personally and give Hader the keys to close this baby out.
  2. Using Hader in the middle innings, we would be seeing a lot of Freese, Dozier, and Kemp. If we win, those are the guys we get out. If we lose, those are the guys that beat us.
  3. I think that could play right into the Brewers' hands. Bring in Hader to face the LHB's early. If they PH for any of them, it's not like it's a huge disadvantage, and now you have more RHB's in there for the rest of the bullpen to face. Or if they leave the LHB's in there, Hader mows them down effortlessly and gives you an extra inning. Roberts might prefer CC using Hader early and then taking his chances against our righties in the 8th and 9th. Great chess here.
  4. Fun to think about, but CC would laugh at that wouldn’t he. BP guys have a fairly important routine to follow.
  5. That would make for great drama and I like our chances. I believe that Hill pitching last night was foreshadowing of Kershaw throwing those big benders tonight.
  6. I don't like saving him until the end. If you do that, you don't even know if you're going to have the type of high-leverage situation that makes him so valuable in the first place. Bring him for the first high-leverage situation with a dangerous LHB at the plate. Most likely that will be a middle inning after Chacin allows a base-runner or two, but I wouldn't hesitate to bring him in a little earlier if Chacin struggles at all. Another advantage of using him early is forcing LAD to make a difficult choice. Do you PH for an LHB in the 4th or 5th inning and then have too many RHB's for Knebel, JJ, Soria, et al later in the game? I've always thought using LHP's on a predictable schedule negates a lot of the match-up leverage they can give you, whether it be using them as starters or closers or any predictable role in between. ETA: All depends on their lineup too, of course. Roberts can go this way: Pederson L (If his wrist is intact) Turner R Muncy L MM. R Bellinger L Taylor R Puig R Barnes R P Freese, Dozier, Kemp, Kike, and Grandal
  7. Miley, if he starts on Friday, will be the first pitcher since 1930 to start back to back games in a post season series.
  8. Yes, I have stated to anyone who will listen down here in Cards/Cubs country since game 3 that the winner of game 6 will win this series. I like the spot the Crew is in right now. The lineup is due to get going and the pitching staff is lined up nearly perfectly to close this thing out.
  9. Yes, he ripped a long line drive to the wall in game 2 late that could have made a difference after they coughed up the 3-0 lead.
  10. So the home field advantage is 5 games to 2? tough problem to fix. the old 2 2 1 gives too many off days for baseball. Allows the Johnson/Schilling approach to pitching. Current has the issues described. 5-2 home field advantage will never fly. What about 1-3-3?? SPitballing of course, same number of off days as now. However the issue is giving the lesser team 3 of the 4 first games. Tough problem 3-3-1 Just play 2 regular series, then go back to the team who earned home field for game 7. This addresses the travel issue as well. Someone on this board mentioned this a while back, don’t remember who. But it makes the most sense to me.
  11. With 2 on we might even be able to induce a triple play the way he blasts down the line.
  12. Being a fan of this team with the Uber talented roster, forward thinking management, and cutting edge strategic thinking of our coaching staff is extremely exciting.
  13. Anderson's BB/9 was a career high this season as was his HR/9. Yet, he had a .228 BA against. Quite the enigma. I wonder if unofficially he has "dead arm" as he seemingly was shut down a few weeks ago --- Sept. 18 being his last start.
  14. There were 3 ways to go with this and each has trade offs. In CC's post game presser he stated that he was walking Grandal if/when Bellinger was walked. Some talking heads were not buying that either. MLB network folks even doubted that the plan was to expand the zone on Bellinger. Bellinger stated that he was surprised Guerra came right at him.
  15. Clearly the pissed metric will enhance his clutchness factor.
  16. The bigger blunder was failing to walk the bases loaded to get to a pitcher in the inning we ended up losing the game in. There just is not excuse for that big of a managerial blunder. Counsell has done great in the postseason, but that was a big ole fail that is pretty hard to debate. I think they were hoping to ride another inning out of Guerra, and the best setup for that to be successful was to have him facing 8, 9, 1 in the 14th. Bellinger had been struggling, as well. I think walking him is the obvious choice when BP arms are plentiful. Yes, in a sense I believe Counsell got too consumed with planning the next inning. He wanted to get Bellinger so the next inning would be likely outs right away (Grandal and pitcher).
  17. The bigger blunder was failing to walk the bases loaded to get to a pitcher in the inning we ended up losing the game in. There just is not excuse for that big of a managerial blunder. Counsell has done great in the postseason, but that was a big ole fail that is pretty hard to debate. In addition to that, there were a few on the IGT thread who mentioned they would rather pitch to Grandal than Bellinger. Inference being that some were not looking 2 batters ahead. I can't believe CC failed to do that, but still wonder why Guerra did not execute the "plan" of extending the zone so as to not give him a pitch to hit. Seemed that perhaps a lack of clearly communicating the plan was the problem.
  18. Just a thought: How about pitchers, specifically closers. Would they be more likely to be classified as clutch performers (if it is a thing) as some perform better with a high leverage situation than with say a 5 run lead? Most closers don't choke. In fact, most pitch better in those higher intensity situations.
  19. If JJ is pitching in the 9th we win. If not, we lose.
  20. Well, he has taken the L against the Crew in his last two starts against them. So do you believe we get three straight on him or is he due for a W?
  21. Woodruff is also ready to roll, and I expect him to take the middle innings. It is also likely a multi-inning pitcher will be activated to take Gonzalez's spot. While the pen availability isn't ideal, I think they are fine. I too believe the pen is fine even moving forward the rest of the series. The arms are set up nicely as long as they continue to execute the game plan. Look forward to JJ on the mound this evening in the bottom of the 9th with runners on and he slams the door.
  22. What did he allegedly say off-camera? Can't find anything on it. Warning, not safe for work: Link. Love the emotion. Now, let your game do the talking boys.
