  1. Let’s get 2 positives here... Cain not hurt and he is safe.
  2. He does seem to just drop a lot more pitches that the average catcher. I know he has “graded well” in the framing department, but I haven’t observed on tv anyway that skill standing out? Coupled with the umps not giving our pitchers much of anything tonight, have to wonder if he could sharpen that up a bit.
  3. We might see Andrew Miller later tonight. Seems like it has been a long time since he has been healthy.
  4. Hader was efficient - glad to see he didn’t have to pitch in a higher stress situation than what was presented.
  5. I’d like to think CC would have 2 guys up and ready so that Hader (if threatened this inning) won’t have a high pitch count.
  6. Oakland and Tampa are profar away from each other too.
  7. A month ago, a Cub fan (and apparently very casual baseball fan) asked me if the Brewers were going to make a big splash this off-season. I stated with all sincerity that a big splash for the Crew would be Marwin Gonzalez. There was an awkward pause followed by some laughter from my colleague, the Cub fan. I take it the guy had no idea who I was talking about. How great would it be for the Crew and the fans to get the last laugh once again at the expense of the baby bears.
  8. I like it. Not worth it for that money. Maybe it's just past tense because he's talking about a year that's over. Christian Yelich could say "in 2017 I was a Marlin and in 2018 I was a Brewer" and it wouldn't raise any eyebrows just because he didn't add "and I still am". Yeah, that's how I read it as well. At the same time, Yelich's tenure as a Brewer is not up for discussion. Schoop's is. Just interesting how Stearns said it in the context of a player who didn't perform all that well.
  9. Schoop - "when he was a Brewer". Just a poorly timed use of past tense or a slip there from Stearns.
  10. Yes and by all accounts the players genuinely sense this and are in it for each other. Leadership will do what it takes to position this team for success in the off-season and throughout the regular season 2019. They are bold and have a growth mindset which will lead to some eye opening acquisitions and departures of some key players from this year's team. Posters have covered many of the possibilities in another thread. Personally, this season began with the Cain and Yelich double bonus transactions in January. I remember the first few regular season series as having a playoff feel with some amazing finishes to games and the tone was set for a great run. I was able to see more games on TV and in person this season than ever before and I've been on board since the early '70's. What a team to follow and I will have many great memories of the 2018 edition of the Crew. Finally, thanks to many of you posters who have been very enlightening for this rookie poster in terms of sharing knowledge and engaging in debate of the greatest game there is.
  11. An often overlooked stat this season with Milwaukee : the number of times they demonstrate the “show me the love” gesture. 10 or more, we win tonight.
  12. It is going to be crucial to play a clean game tonight. Not just avoiding errors, but not letting the Dodgers take an extra base on a hustle play by a batter that turns a single into a double because we didn’t go full out to track a ball down. Making the proper throws to cut off men and to the proper base. Base running has to be clean tonight. Runs may be scarce to come by tonight. Those kinds of mistakes are magnified in these games. The pitching will be handled well by the coaches, the position players have to keep a similar approach as last night - looking to put the ball in play going oppo at times. And the Crowd, get in it and stay in it. Lots of great comments last night about the 10th man. Go Crew!
  13. It's 5 hours to game time. I think this conversation is fine. I'd be interested in hearing who the other 2B options are out there that people like better. All I care about is staying away from the low OBP, high K guys. I'd prefer a right-handed or switch-hitting batter, too. I have another hour before I need to get mentally ready for tonight.
  14. MLB network does far better research, in depth analysis, seemingly is less biased, and takes a little pride in their delivery of information. Other than their lead guy last night making a case to start Hader, they have hit the proverbial home run in their coverage of the Crew that I have seen anyway.
  15. LeMahieu has a career OPS+ of 92, and has already had his prime years. Schoop has an OPS+ of 98 for his career, and may still have his prime years ahead of him. So yeah, Miller is a hitter-friendly park, but it's not Coors and LeMahiue would probably just be another 6/7 type hitter on a team that already has too many of those and not enough reliable 3/4 guys to follow up Cain and Yelich. Schoop has been terrible, no doubt, but so was Santana early this year and so was Aguilar until yesterday. I hated the trade but I don't see a simple upgrade. He could almost be a mascot for the Brewers' offense as a whole because it seems like they should be so dangerous but they're often not - often due to lack of plate discipline, among other things. Points well taken. When researching DJ phrases like these seem very attractive to a team looking to add quality depth: Batting titles, plus defender, gold gloves, AS selections, 30 years old, competitive fire, under appreciated, Cubs liken him to a younger Ben Zobrist. I don’t study the market like many of you, but seems like a guy to keep an eye on relative to who else is out there. Of course, it depends on the plans for Moose and Schoop. Where do they fit in the budget and does Schoop possess those qualities that CC and Stearns value? I wonder if they regret the trade for him and may try to go another route.
  16. Yes, this roster is amazing. Look at the guys who didn’t make the post season roster. There are 6-7 critical pitchers to get us to this point that are watching. As JoeyMeyer pointed out the other day, adding a guy like LeMahieu and perhaps Lowrie can be a big boost for our position players too. This is setting up nicely short and long term. Getting Lemahieu is a real possibility. He has family ties to Wisconsin. His grandmother lives in Oostburg and when Colorado was in town earlier this year he visited some friends of mine who have a 7 year old son who's favorite player is him. He posed for a picture with him. Would he be nearly as good away from playing half hius games at Coors Field? That would concern me a lot with the kind of money he will be getting. Please excuse my captain obvious statement here: Miller Park is considered a hitter friendly park. If you can hit in one park, you should be able to hit in Miller.
  17. Let’s say it is the 6th in a close game with Shaw or Moose up. They bring in Kershaw. Do you pinch hit Santana or do you stay with your LHB to keep them active for their power righties coming later from the pen? I'd hold. Moose and Shaw are capable of really good ABs even against lefties Agree, LA has a clear advantage in terms of PH options with the depth on offense they have. Can’t wait for the Crew to get to this point using their budget friendly ways of course.
