  1. "Anyone can beat anyone, may the best team win!" makes for an awfully boring week between games. Well you should have seen the rest of my post before the someone edited half of it out.
  2. Lol. Also, we're you the one who cut out half my post. Probably a good idea whoever it was.
  3. I'll never understand why people say "I can't see the Packers losing to...". It's a one game series (with an oblong ball) not a best of seven. They can lose to anyone in any given week. Be glad they're the clear favorite because they're the one team that gets next week off and they play their remaining 2 NFC games at home.
  4. I just want to say that the Mets hire of Buck Showalter as manager makes me feel better that Stearns won't jump ship and join them next year. The two are not a philosophical match and no one is going to convince me that Stearns doesn't work lockstep with his manager throughout the season. I just can't see the appeal for Stearns to go there unless Buck fails miserably and is one and done. Here's an except from an article in the Athletic regarding the hire... Sure you could argue that with limitless funds Stearns could abandon the philosophy of framing the roster to shuttle players between the majors and minors but I believe the utilization of the full 40 man roster is in his DNA. And describing Buck as "analytics resistant" is about the most kind way to describe him. Not only do I not think Stearns would want to have Buck as his manager, I don't think the Mets would have hired Buck if their plan was to lure Stearns next year. I hope I'm right.
  5. And don't forget he'd be in a real offense where the defense doesn't know exactly what's coming every play. It amazes me that people can't wrap their minds about how hard it is to compete with that kind of handicap. The same people who complain about Chryst's laughably predictable offense complain about the QB when the results aren't there.
  6. A reminder that the only additions that can be made right now are minor league ones so please refrain from sweeping conclusions that the Brewers are done making significant additions. Goodness, it's bad enough when people think the roster is set in December of a normal offseason. With it being literally impossible to add major leaguers currently, the hand wringing is bound to tip new scales around here soon.
  7. "Well, certainly there was upside in just keeping JBJ." Not a sentence I thought I'd be reading today. Expected performance aside, JBJ has two very expensive contract years remaining. Renfroe would have to crash the team bus and put half the team on the DL, to be that level of an albatross given he comes with no commitment beyond this season. JBJ had one of the worst seasons with the bat in team (if not MLB) history. And came with a bloated contract. Fans dream of the team simply shedding a contract like this with no return. The Brewers somehow shed the entire contract and come away with a guy who is a virtual clone statistically of their top offseason departure, while merely sacrificing two prospects ranked in the late teens, and not only are many "meh" on the trade, at least one is pondering the thought of being better off with JBJ. Never ceasing to be amazed.
  8. A non sports follower knowing nothing about these two players would be best served to bet on each being busts because that's by far the most likely result statistically given their current level of development. Followed closely by topping out as fringe major leaguers or getting a cup of coffee one day in the big leagues. Will it sting if one or both turn into quality MLBers? Of course. But to replace them with prospects at the same tier they are today isn't exactly hard.
  9. This is definitely right. But, they cleared a bad contract to essentially eliminate the need to acquire a specific replacement for Garcia's output. With the excess cash, they can now acquire a bat as an addition that they wouldn't have been able to before. Somehow these dots are just not connecting with people. Then you add in the overvaluing of prospects who haven't even conquered AA ball yet and here we are.
  10. This trade is sheer wizardry. The Brewers were in desperate need of a run producer after losing Garcia. They turn around and essentially get his clone at half the payroll cost while shedding one of their worst contracts. They could have just re-signed Avi and many of you would've been perfectly fine with it. Now they opened up about 15 million in 2022 payroll (savings from Avi to Hunter and shed JBJ's 9.5M) and have a guy who hit more HRs and drove in more runs than Garcia and would have led the Brewers in both categories this past season. Their batting averages, strikeout, and walk numbers are near identical as well. As for the prospects. Until fans realize that you can't get too high on a prospect until they are putting up dominant numbers in at least AA, there's no reason to put lofty expectations on anyone. Neither Hamilton or Binelas were anywhere near even that point yet and there is a significant chance neither will ever get there. And from there you have to realize that many AA stars never amount to much in the majors. These guys are STILL lottery tickets. 16th and 17th ranked prospects in a mediocre system. They'll be quickly replaced by two new lottery tickets via trades and the 2022 draft. Prospects at the stage these two guys presently reside are severely overrated given their statistical likelihood to top out as middling major leaguers if either even get there.
  11. Missed in all this discussion about Wall is the fact that he and Cousins are very close. Doesn't make Milwaukee the top fit if playing time is the priority but if winning and being around his pal play an oversized role then well it might just happen.
  12. So you want Attanasio to spend like a drunken sailor when you know he can't, while at the same time being against something that would give the Brewers more shots at the dance given their constraints. It sounds like you just want to torture yourself.
  13. They're not moving Adames to 3rd to make room for friggin Turang at SS. People need to just stop responding to this nonsense. It completely negates the use of the ignore function.
  14. CLE did not have need for starters entering 2021 either... Then Logan S Allen & Triston McKenzie struggled at the start of the year & all of Bieber- Civale- Plesac were on the Injured List starting in June.. And thus Cleveland had him make 11 starts last year. Something tells me the Brewers have no intention of turning to Mejia for any starts in 2022 unless perhaps it's as an opener for an inning or two.
  15. Seems obvious to me - he has some nastiness but not a starter's repertoire. Brewers have no need for starters so voila he goes to the pen where he can thrive off his two best pitches.
  16. The Brewers still intend to hire an assistant to fill the role Jacob Cruz filled and I believe he is still in consideration to return. That's up to Dawson and Timmons who are going to get together and help decide who they want to assist them. They are truly adding a second voice to the batting coach role and doing this in a dual capacity. Multiple hitting instructors isn't even a new thing. This is about having multiple approaches to increase the chances of meshing with different hitting styles and preferred ways of learning. Timmons even said that he's the old school guy and Dawson is the new school guy with the hopes they'll have something for everyone.
  17. I've always believed that with so many different swings, approaches, and comfort zones with hitters it was hard to find a hitting coach that works for all. At least now with 2 hitting coaches, the Brewers will employ two guys who by background seemingly come with drastically different methodologies. And then the hope is more batters will find a comfort level with one or the other. The best recent example I can think of is Keston Hiura. It's clear that he did not take to Haines' emphasis on launch angle. Now maybe with two guys coming at this from two different backgrounds, more hitters will find one they click with.
  18. Update: 2 Hires Official... https://www.mlb.com/news/ozzie-timmons-connor-dawson-named-brewers-hitting-coaches According to the Twitter post below, the Brewers are hiring Connor Dawson to their MLB coaching staff (presumably as hitting coach). He was their player development hitting coordinator. Wasn't sure of the strength of the source but it's starting to get picked up by a bunch of Mariners accounts that seemingly trust the source... https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/mariners-moose-tracks-11-6-21-kyle-schwarber-wade-miley-and-alex-colom%C3%A9/ar-AAQormM I imagine if this is true we'll have confirmation soon.
  19. Dillon deserves a better coach than the guy who just broke the SB era record for best 40 game start to a NFL head coaching career? He should be fired so Dillon has a coach who will utilize him more to your liking. W/L results be damned.
  20. There was a very interesting historical discussion going on, with about as good of insight being shared as I ever see here anymore and one guy comes in picking a fight. Poof - interesting discussion gone.
  21. Bummer they removed Morton there. He was missing the mitt by feet, not inches, on his fastball. All they had to do as hitters was let the spinners go by. Let's work this pen now.
  22. I think you're right. I'm just trying to draw it out of people to avoid what we all know is coming if the Brewers are trailing at any point today.
  23. I would love to see everyone weigh in now on this before the game so we don't have to hear the inevitable second guessing after the fact. I'll go ahead and make my argument for starting Lauer and holding back Burnes... I back Counsell 100% on this decision. Lauer is the one pitcher on the roster not named Gustave who the Braves haven't gotten a look at already this series. They also have the 2nd fewest hits in the majors against lefties. You can't win this series without winning games 4 AND 5 so why decrease your chances in game 5 by spending Burnes in game 4 on short rest. Especially when Burnes has been deployed on on LONG rest (more than 4 days) for most of the season. The Braves have some damn good pitching themselves. Their decision to go the short rest route and exposing their pitchers to multiple looks by Brewers batters might be the one chance to start tilting the odds back in the Brewers favor. The Brewers are potentially 9 hours away from turning 3% odds into 50%+ odds. Burning Burnes today likely wouldn't make the Brewers the favorite in game 5 as I do not like the Woodruff vs Fried matchup at all with both on 4 days rest. But I definitely like Burnes on 5 days rest vs Fried on 4. How do others want to weigh in before the benefit of hindsight? Let's hear it.
