  1. Given how tightly packed the NL is likely to be this year, I'd argue that even the smallest marginal improvements "move the needle" for the club. One or two wins are likely going to matter, a lot. And I'd say replacing Petricka (or whomever you consider the 12th/13th member of the staff to be) with Kimbrel is at least a small marginal improvement.
  2. I see Kimbrel absolutely dominating national league hitters, maybe Stearns does too. Goodness gracious the guy is arguably the greatest relief pitcher of all time, I can’t think of a single pitcher that we could get WITHOUT gutting the farm that would help us this year more than this guy. Geez I hope we can get him!
  3. If we get something done with him I would have to guess it would be somewhere in the 2/$30mil range. For us to be in on him his market had to of just fell through the floor. I don't see us spending $20mil a year or giving a deal 3+ years to improve something that is probably already the strength of the team. Maybe 3/$45mil, but jeez...I just don't us spending that kind of money on a bullpen arm. Some people dont think our pen is a strength at least compared to last year. And it’s becoming apparent stearn’s might think so too. We’re not the small market team of the past. We can support a 150 mil payroll for a few years while contending for title IF Mark forgo’s A certain profit. We’ll see what happens
  4. Thanks for the report!
  5. Cubs and Cardinals boards are exploding and I love it
  6. If we get him can you imagine our pen come playoff time. Brewers versus the Yankees. Baseballs smallest market taking on baseballs largest market. David versus Goliath. It would be an epic series .
  7. And a fantastic update at that. Thanks for the update sir. Heyman gets crushed a lot on this board and I don’t really understand why, when I hear him talk he’s always respectful and careful with his words, actually humble kind of guy. Him and Rosenthal I trust as much as any reporters. I’m betting on this happening, makes too much sense.
  8. You could be right on with this, I hope you are.
  9. How many pitchers in baseball can throw a fastball right down the middle of the plate and have an all-star caliber hitter swing through it like Keon Broxton.
  10. Like I said he’s probably the most unique pitcher in baseball, no one like him, he just needs experience and should be an ace pitcher, maybe even this year.
  11. All of that definitely helps and has led to success(otherwise what guy with only a 92 mph fastball and solid curve would make it past AA?), but will MLB hitters learn to pick up on and figure it out as they see it more if he basically has a 2.5 pitch arsenal? Maybe, maybe not. His odds of success would drastically improve if he developed even an average changeup that he could throw 10-12% of the time. Without the changeup, it's anybody's guess as to whether extension and spin rate will be enough to fool mlb hitters long term with a very limited arsenal of pitches. He’s now throwing 94-96 and has a good change, his command of his FB is what needs to improve and should moving forward. Already slight improvement this spring.
  12. But Peralta has a great breaking ball. Also good change. I would say he’s the most unique pitcher in all of baseball, no one like him. From release point hiding the ball spin rate size completely unique. And with SLIGHTLY better command could be a strong 2 or even a 1. With GOOD command an ace. He’s only 22, in all likelihood his command is going to improve.
  13. Yes, I think they can average five runs a game with their lineup. Which should take a little pressure off a Brewers bullpen that will in all likelihood sans A Kimbrel addition, be weaker, at least til after super 2.
  14. We might not know the actual truth to the matter on this one. Logically your take, based upon stearns track record of risk adverse transactions and Mark’s willingness to invest some $ into certain players, would be the correct one. My gut tells me stearn’s might view Kimbrel as worth the $ value wise especially to a team like the Brewers, who use their pen uniquely in a lot of ways. And pull a Dayton Moore.
  15. Here’s what I think: - Stearns wants Kimbrel, knows that this is as good a year to win a World Series as it could possibly be. Doesn’t know what he’s getting from jeffress. Was counting on Wahl to possibly be another high leverage pen arm. Knows how important an elite pen is to winning the series. Doesn’t want to hurt The development of his three young guns by NOT having them focus on starting. - Mark A on the other hand is concerned in that he wants to make a certain profit, has to weigh a 140-150 mil payroll the expectations of us fans, reporters who-ever, moving forward. With our current mid-market revenue, not sure he wants to set a precedent or expectation of a certain payroll I’m sure he wants the freedom to set a payroll without getting criticized. I’m hoping he just says the heck with it and truly goes all in.
  16. Yes, just not against us when we play them this year.
  17. Exactly, it’s gonna take more than a one year deal in my opinion. I’ve been saying three years at 54 Plus a mutual option at 20 with a 6 mil buy-out. Effectively giving him $20 million per year for three years saving face with highest AAV for a relief pitcher ever. And he’d be worth every penny! Think big act big get big
  18. Why would that be a cynical take though? I think it's exactly what they should be doing. Look how it worked out with Darvish. I hope the Cubs haven't learned their lesson and I hope they do sign Kimbrel for something remotely close to his asking price. And I hope to god the Brewers don't, but I'd welcome him on a big one-year deal. No no no no I don’t want Theo to talk his owner into blasting way past the luxury tax threshold for the best reliever in baseball, for this year when we are going for the World Series. I’d rather their owner look at the tax threshold as a hard cap moving forward. I personally think we’re sleeping on the Cardinals they have the money, The perceived need, and the room for adding payroll.
  19. Yeah to me seems like Kimbrels camp leaked the fact that Stearns HAS talked not in talks to stir things up. Prob not gonna happen. Disappointing.
  20. 1 year 22 mil?
  21. Rickets Said not spending any more, but maybe Theo will have a temper tantrum and threaten to retire again if he can’t get pay roll to 250 mil.
  22. Nationals and cubs over luxury tax threshold. Rays low revenue. Brewers have the most $ to spend. If this the only teams talking I think we can get him.
  23. If it happens > 3 years 54 with a 20 mil mutual option and 5 mil buyout. Saves face with largest aav at close to 20 yr
  24. If this happens I think it’ll happen soon cause Stearns hates leaks.
  25. If we get him I hope it’s for 3 years. I want to win 3 World Series back to back to back. Dynasty!! No more asinine small market no recognition bias big city crap. Heard 45 lifetimes worth of that talk already.
