  1. Took him out after 57 pitches. Command left him this inning, Hit batter, FB 90-92.
  2. Peralta’s FB up to 95-96, good command so far too.
  3. I may have missed that, but we should know today since he is pitching at Salt River Fields which is the AZ Spring Training park with publicly available data including pitch velocity and movement. The outing details should be on Brooks Baseball baseball by tonight or tomorrow. Counsell said Burnes and peralta FB up by 2 mph
  4. Yes. Just tryin for some levity
  5. With his ridiculous extension, his release point was already 2 feet closer to home plate than average, making the 92 on the gun, the equivalent of 95. If he's now throwing 95, the equivalent is let's just say "scary". Scary is right. Did you see the looks on Rockies hitters on m day. Blackman/Arenado priceless. Now add 2 mph. Silly
  6. Sure, but I think your missing the point. Stearns: I’ve made the best offer I can based off our analytics department info Mark A: is it gonna be enough to get him signed? Stearns: maybe maybe not. Mark A: Give me his agents number so I can offer more to get him signed because he helps our pen more than any other pitcher and this way I’ll take the blame for slightly overspending to preserve your stellar record of sticking to a figure and not budging. This is what I meant when I said go over his head to sign him. Sorry, should have explained it better.
  7. Read post #322, he explains it better than I could.
  8. Asking that Attanasio go above Stearns' head to sign a reliever I think could be lunacy as well. Why is it “Lunacy” to ask an owner to override his employee to sign one of the best relievers in baseball history? And then take the blame for it IF it didn’t work? He’s already done this in the past with kyle Loshe, and then took the blame when didn’t work out so well. This time probably work out better.
  9. Agree with dire need. Dire need of a high leverage arm or two. Counsell said “it’s time” for young guns to start. Let’s see how long it stays that way if no Kimbrel and or no outside help(trade).
  10. What a great pickup by stearns, hate to lose a leader and great clubhouse guy like Eric. Had to happen though.
  11. Not what I said, if you want to argue this more: Spending thread bumped
  12. Yes understand your thinking, cause a short time ago I would have agreed with it. But after doing some research and realizing that the Brewers revenues have increased more in the last two years than just about any other team in baseball, we have the $ to invest in a player that is arguably the most elite at his position. The old saying you have to spend money to make money. With JJ’s injury among other things I don’t think our bullpen is a strong as you make it out to be at least starting the year. I can’t think of a single player that would help the Brewers more than Kimbrel. I think this possibility would be much more likely if Kimbrel was a one year deal candidate. Clearly that isn't the case. I don't see any way the Brewers make a major commitment to have what would be a major luxury to make the bullpen better. What if a major need arises next year or midseason? Going to be really hard to get someone, especially if it requires a longer term deal if you tie up $15mil to Kimbrel. As much as I would like to dream I don't think there is any way short term we are going to just start busting out a $150mil+ payroll because we are competing. Just wanted to finish some thoughts from kimbrel thread I’m old and some people as they get older get sentimental and look at the past with more fondness than they probably should. With that said I hope the brewers can win the World Series while Bud Selig Is still alive AND Bob Uecker still calling brewer games. How great would that be! Father Time is a tickin
  13. Sorry for the tangent. Mark A FINE OWNER especially when you compare him to some of the others. It’s probably a little early for me to complain about our payroll, let’s see what happens.
  14. Ok. I’ll go with fan graphs over my eyes, but that still means Barnes has lost 2 to 3 miles an hour off that fastball since 2017. My opinion Albers Barnes > prob not Guerra > yes Anderson > 70% yes After super two there will definitely be candidates. Then there’s Nelson?
  15. You can nit pick my words and statements to death if you want to, there certainly far from perfect but the overall take is true. Currently we are not a small market revenue wise so let’s STOP talking like we are is all I’m really saying. Now I don’t know what the future holds so maybe 6 yrs from now we rebuild a little or a lot, revenues go down as does PAYROLL. Mark A again does NOT lose $. He never has, and probably won’t moving forward. I wish we had a mike ilitch type owner but that’s A dinosaur in baseball today. Current owners are not die hard fans of the team that only care about winning, they are wealth focused men that see a great investment in buying a mlb team. Bottom line is the wealth or profit not winning. I’m not saying mark A doesn’t want to win, because I think he does but he’s still a money focused business man. My Bud Selig reference I keep mentioning for the few that don’t know in my opinion is the most UNDERRATED and LEAST appreciated people in base ball history. Only reason “Small Market” teams even exist let alone able to compete IS because of his stewardship as commissioner for 25 years. No details here, if you don’t already know this trust me it’s true. I hope we know how many times he SAVED the brewers. An autobiographical book is coming out this June about Mr. Selig >can’t wait to read it. The man was a diehard fan BEFORE he created our franchise, while owner for 22 years won 7 Organization of the year awards, also had baseball HIGHEST payroll several times, just think on that for moment. Got miller park built just to keep brewers in Milwaukee. My best memory of him walking outside county stadium many times alone with his stogie talking with us fans about brewer baseball. There is no fan still as Die Hard a brewer fan than Bud Selig Only one close is Bob Uecker.
  16. I don't see how you make this math work. First of all, Fields is a guy who has been extremely lucky the last two years, stranding nearly 90 pct of runners each year. He's also a fly ball pitcher who's moving from the NL West to the AL Central. Oh, and he missed the last two months of last year with a shoulder injury. Wilson is a fine middle reliever who is a middle of the road reliever. I think there's just as good of a chance that Barnes and Albers out-perform them than they not only out-perform Barnes and Albers, but do so to SUCH a degree that they make up for the loss of Knebel? Not likely. Not unless they both turn into something that they haven't been in their careers to date. And Albers at least has been dominant at some point with a 1.60 ERA and a .85 Whip two years ago, and Barnes is the guy on the team who's pure stuff is closest to Knebel. Getting Jacob Barnes to turn it around like Knebel did would be the closest we could come to making up for the loss of Knebel.... But I wouldn't count on either of those happening either. Just as I wouldn't count on Jeffress, who was already highly, highly unlikely to even approach last years success to come out of this shoulder injury and be an elite high leverage reliever. Fields and Wilson are like medics on the scene of a gun shot to the chest. Two pieces of Gauze that will be used up and then discarded most likely for a better option down the road. At least hopefully that's the case...othewise our patient was DOA when he got to the hospital. +1 Couldn’t agree more with your take here. Only quibble would be Barnes closest to knebel Barnes scrapped his 99 four seem of 2017 for cutter. 2017 closer to knebel 2018 regressed In my mind. We see cause apparently crew still likes him.
  17. Saw what jimmy said in McCalvy column. Wow sounded positive upbeat confident. His optimism is gonna be hard to keep up with, but I’ll try.
  18. And stearns has assigned that value and won’t budge and will move on. I’m just hopin mark steps in before we’d move on signs him and takes the blame/credit. MarkA apologizes for stepping in and signing Kimbrel but says “ I did it for the best fans in baseball” and it’s time to win it for Bud Selig and Bob Uecker.
  19. It’s nauseating that a business owner doesn’t want to lose money? He should just lose millions of dollars and take a big loss? From what I can find online, Mark is the majority owner and owns 38% of the Brewers. If you think he’s personally gaining $100 million in his pocket this year then wow. Their valuation went up 6% from last year to this year alone. How much of that is Mark’s at a 38% stake? $10 million? Also, just because a value of a business goes up does not mean there is an increase in cash in his pocket to throw at payroll. Stearns can dump the payroll to whatever when we aren’t contending? That proves my point. Brewers won’t draw 3 million fans winning 70 games and fielding a team with a $70 million payroll after spending $130 million on it a couple years earlier. How is he gaining his money back now to fund another competitive team down the road if he blows it all now, but can’t make it back up down the road since they are fielding a poor team with a low payroll? They will still draw fans, but a lot of people won’t pay to watch a non-competitive team, especially after an extended competitive window. Many fans will lose interest in the team if they start losing a bunch of games and they will feel slighted when they are paying more for tickets, but the payroll is the lowest it’s been in years. There is a lot that goes into these decisions. It’s not as simple as it’s being made out to be. Mark A has NEVER lost $ with the brewers. And with a 157 mil payroll THIS year prob break even. Playoffs add 10-30 mil. As far as his franchise, he bought it for 225+. 2018 worth 1.03 Billion. 775 mil profit in 15 years. 38% of that approx. 300 million that’s his money, which is fine, I don’t begrudge him that.
  20. Milwaukee being the best fans in baseball is not a "Fact", thats an opinion that every fan base of every pro sports franchise shares about its self. No fan base "deserves" a payroll of whatever it takes to win a world series. They deserve a product on the field of professional baseball, which we have. I beg to differ, I don’t how long you’ve been a fan of the brewers, this is my 49th year, 0 titles-1 ws appearance-5 playoffs—- 2-3 million fans year after year. Name me 1 fan base AS LOYAL as ours > THERE ARE NONE! The ONLY reason mark A makes a good profit EVERY year is because of the best fans in baseball. How else could a franchise #30 baseballs smallest in every way, over perform their attendance to the point of revenue closer to 10th than 30th. Not a unlimited payroll. A PAYROLL REFLECTIVE OF ITS FANS.
  21. Milwaukee being the best fans in baseball is not a "Fact", thats an opinion that every fan base of every pro sports franchise shares about its self. No fan base "deserves" a payroll of whatever it takes to win a world series. They deserve a product on the field of professional baseball, which we have. The brewers at 2.85 mil fans last year #1 in ALL of baseball Per capita. #30 metro market size #8 in attendance. Best fans in baseball >FACT.
  22. The value of the Brewers franchise has gone up 10 to 12% per year on average for every single year that Mark is owned the Brewers, that would be between 100 and 120,000,000 just this year alone. I can’t hear how Mark could possibly take a loss for us to win a World Series ever again, it’s nauseating. If you want to know what I really think it’s the following: we are a contending midmarket team that should have a payroll of at least 150. Then when you have the fact that we’ve never won a World Series in 50 years and the fact of Milwaukee being the best fans in all of baseball, we deserve A payroll of whatever it takes to win a World Series when we’re contending. Just on revenue alone this year can support a payroll north of 150, then add a playoff appearance and it only goes up from there. Anyhow the fact that Mark will make $100 million just on the value of the franchise this year alone should be enough to end all this silly talk about us not having the money and wow our payroll is 127 million The most in Brewer history. stop. that’s nothing. At some point in the future if we’re not a contender Stearns can dump the payroll to whatever. Mark A is not mike ilitch or bud selig.
  23. I have three questions. Am I the only one that thinks Brandon Woodruff looks like Jimmy Nelson when he pitches? Who has the most upside of our three young guns? Am I the only one that thinks Freddy is going to throw a no-hitter at some point in the future?
  24. If there is anything we have learned since Stearns has been in charge is he rarely will pay more (in terms of salary, players, etc) than he believes a player is worth. All of his moves have been about getting value for assets expended, and while he is willing to pay a premium price for production now that the Brewers are competitive he doesn't appear to be willing to overpay. I think Stearns would like to add Kimbrel. I think the Brewers are in a good position to add expensive pieces like Kimbrel because competing for a championship is realistic. I don't think, however, Stearns is going to pay Kimbrel more than he thinks he's worth, regardless of factors such as cash on hand, current roster makeup, etc. If Kimbrel's price remains significantly outside of what Stearns thinks he's worth, I doubt we'll see Kimbrel sign with the Brewers. The only possible scenario I could see where Stearns overpays for Kimbrel would be on a one-year deal, and even then I doubt he significantly overpays. EDIT: I don't know Kimbrel's asking price or that it is "significantly" outside of what Stearns is willing to pay. I am assuming the gap must be somewhat large because if it were not the two sides would have agreed on a contract. I am perfectly willing to concede the gap may be closer than the situation would seem to indicate. Yes that is certainly stearns m/o up to this point. Only difference I see now is the market in all likelihood is down enough to where we can get tremendous value on a pitcher of need just by ante up above what’s comfortable. There are exceptions to every rule. If the reports are true and it’s down to the braves and brewers and Kimbrel doesn’t want to wait til the second week of June, I think that time to break that rule is now. I don’t think anyone is gonna care that he overpaid for one year of arguably the best closer in baseball. I think some of us are so focused on the trees we miss the forest.
  25. Can’t argue with this ^ I like Keuchel, lots a GB’s, durable, left handed and eats innings. Because of the down market prob value there, why not?
