  1. Why not? Surgery by the best surgeon in the world in his field. Jimmy best rehabber of all time Hyperbaric chamber 19 months time gone by to FULLY heal Performance better in some respects than 2017 Only 2 mph off, can get that back with innings imho Breaking ball better than ever before It’s jimmy Nelson’s > Who is betting against him?
  2. Here’s what I’d do: Starters: Chacin Woody Burnes peralta Davies Bullpen: Kimbrel Hader Nelson Anderson Guerra Claudio Fields Williams Jeffress-83 mph FB scared me,but if stuff is back insert him in place of Williams Mixing and matching starters and pen arms to protect are Young guns innings. Nelson to start at some point this year-Davies AAA-Minor league stud replace Nelson in pen after super two This is the World Series winning pitching staff
  3. Have you seen the results of leaning too heavily on relievers? Knebel's elbow is probably toast, Jeffress was not 100% in the playoffs last year and is having shoulder issues. If you want an example that isn't Brewers, the Cubs entire bullpen was basically trash the last month and a half of the season. The only good reliever they had was Chavez, who was traded for in July/August and therefore not yet ruined by Maddon. Everyone else was either bad or hurt. Overusing the bullpen has consequences. And thus why the Brewers have two long men in the pen that weren't there last year. And why they will always shuttle pitchers back and forth between San Antonio and Milwaukee. They're geared to expose initial out getters less, not more. I agree with your take except not sure what the Brewers are going to do with Nelson and Guerra. They might not want Nelson pitching out of the pen for health reasons, and they might want Guerra as a high leverage pen arm.
  4. Barnes > Minors to work on trying to reclaim his 4 seam 99 mph FB
  5. In Stearns we trust but...............
  6. I heard Steve Phillips talking about this a week or so ago and insurance for baseball players is almost never purchased because it is almost never worth it. For instance, you can by insurance on Kimbrel but any part of him that has ever been injured would be excluded from the policy. There was a bunch of other stuff as well but having insurance doesn't seem to help much. Thanks for clarifying,TPlush correct I wrong
  7. Not sure that is fact? You claimed that almost all teams get insurance on pitchers with big contracts, where are your facts on that? It's something that is rarely talked about so I really doubt that any posters here know those facts either way, but hard to call someone out when you didn't provide any actual evidence to your claim either. Yes I did claim that. That was my understanding but I could be wrong. You actually got me thinking that I am wrong. But at the same time I still want Kimbrel. Look a year ago I’d have crushed me too, I’d of course would argue “small market team can’t” take a chance on a potential “crippling contract”. Call me what you want, through research my opinion has changed. MLB teams will guard there books with every lawyer they have for a reason. Braves were forced to open there’s and there 2018 profit was 100 million. With payroll of 130 mil and bad local tv deal. New stadium added revenue but they had ave ticket prices and drew 350,000 LESS than us. 100 mil with 130 mil payroll with revenue SLIGHTLY more than us. Please stop with the small market talk. Mark A good owner but he’s not Mike Ilitch. 150+ mil payroll not even that much unless your Tom Haudricourt. I mean most us have been die hard brewer fans longer than mark A. I know if I was worth 800 million and bought a baseball team for 225 15 years ago that’s now worth 1.13 BILLION that hasn’t won a title in its 50 years of it’s existence and only reason it’s a mid market is it’s truly “ Best fans in baseball “ I’d truly reward those fans by forgoing a profit and upping payroll reflective of its fans.
  8. Not sure if I understood this, but I'm assuming you accidentally left out the word "would" (As is "who would that be now..."). As someone mentioned above, possibly someone like Wil Smith. Good numbers and is due less than $5M this year. I don't think the Brewers would have to give up a ton to get him, especially since he is FA eligible next year. But also, not sure what Knebel being injured has to do with who the "Kimbrel light" would be. I'm guessing you feel it's more urgent to sign Kimbrel now that Knebel is injured and the Brewers should do whatever it takes to get Kimbrel and not settle for a "Kimbrel light". I personally would hate to see the Brewers panic and cave to Kimbrel's inflated demands because of Knebel's situation. My hope is that Stearns is smarter than that and is capable of finding a better value elsewhere if Kimbrel is unwilling to be reasonable. Yes. You nailed me on this one. Kimbrel IF HEALTHY or bust, but I’d also trade for Smith. They prob gonna want Ray. Think I’d do it not sure stearns would.
  9. This can also give them some leverage with Kimbrel. If you don't want to take the deal we are offering, we can just work out a trade to get what we are looking for. To which he might say "go ahead, I'll be right here when you decide not to give up prospects instead of money." If Kimbrel doesn't sign with us, he will sign someplace, he knows it. I believe he still has the leverage. Someone always comes calling with talent like that. I think what it all comes down to is if Kimbrell doesn’t mind waiting until the June draft it’s possible he could get more than he’s getting offered today but at the same time does he want to wait? We shall see
  10. Not sure that is fact?
  11. “Kimbrel light” who that be now that Knebel injured?
  12. This is a very realistic look at things. The 3 young guys have talent, and it will be fun to watch them develop. I just fear some are expecting them to all be aces this season. The time is now, I don't disagree with giving them the opportunity. I've seen a couple dozen starts come up through the system that got hurt, derailed, traded, etc. So I'm really looking forward to watching these guys. In addition to the concerns above, they are all really going to struggle to get through 5 innings let alone 6 or 7. My hope is by 2020 2 of 3 will have the training wheels off completely and be really solid starters. Call that an ace, #2, TOR, whatever, that's semantics. But for this year, I would be fine if they just held their own for 5 innings. It would be a plus if one of them can consistently get in to the 7th inning. Disagree with your comment that they ALL are gonna struggle to get thru 5 let alone 6 or 7. Peralta prob till command Burnes should be ok. Woodruff horse.
  13. That insurance is incredibly expensive. Especially for pitchers, and even moreso for older pitchers. Highly likely the Brewers don't always buy insurance on players, and probably wouldn't for Kimbrel. Yes but almost all teams with pitchers that have large contracts have insurance on them.
  14. Stats matter more with Chacin and Davis than the three young guns. Something happened to our trio that changed in the pennant race of last year that can’t be quantified by stats > CONFIDENCE!!! Look at what they all did from sept on. I don’t need stats, when my eyes can see what confidence does to a pitcher with good stuff. I think we all assume they were to be growing pains especially with Burns and Peralta but they’re not that far off from being top of the rotation starters.
  15. If no Kimbrel. Replace Barnes with fields please. And Albers with houser. Package the two in a trade for lottery ticket Albers was very good before getting hurt last year. If he can return to form he is vastly superior to Houser. You're right about Fields, except he should replace Petricka, not Barnes. I don't see how a guy like Petricka, who has been absolutely horrible for the last two years, could be on the team ahead of Fields. Petricka shortest leash, so don’t fret he’ll in all likelihood be replaced by fields. Unfortunately in my opinion the Brewers will give longer leashes to Albers and Barnes.
  16. I don’t think even I said established aces, all though I did say Woody imho could be ace THIS year. Burnes prob not this year, and peralta just needs better command to be an ace. I think outside of some of us and the Brewers brass, that our trio is severely underrated by the outside baseball world. Other GM’s know what we have and this off-season have been trying to get their hands on one of our young trio.Wouldn’t surprise me in the least if a year from now we’re talking about having three top of the rotation starters in our three Young Guns.
  17. Yes agree, stearns had 2 days to get Kimbrel signed before Knebel “dead arm” lie got out. Price either stayed firm or went up since then. If we want him we are going to have to give him 3+ yrs like I’ve been saying all along or maybe but I doubt it 1 at like 22. Everyone already knows what I’d do. Stearns drivin by analytics so prob won’t budge. Which I know will make a lot of you very happy around here. My take here is stearns can prob make pen work without Kimbrel as most of you say, but IMHO Kimbrel’s value is strong enough to warrant 3-4 yr deal. IF goes south stearns can rid of him w/o much if any damage. We have the $, what’s the downside? He could get injured and/or fall off the cliff the next couple seasons and the Brewers would be stuck paying a ton of money for multiple years on a player that isn't helping them and no longer has any trade value. Not even saying whether he's worth that risk or not, just responding to your question. They have insurance for injury. % chance he falls off a cliff I’d put at a little lower than low.
  18. If no Kimbrel. Replace Barnes with fields please. And Albers with houser. Package the two in a trade for lottery ticket I think it can be dangerous to have recency bias when it comes to player performance. Albers was terrific in 2017 with the Nationals, and over the first two months of 2018 with the Brewers, to the point where he basically took over a bullpen stopper role after Knebel's injury. I personally think its imperative to see if that Albers is back in 2019 before dumping him. Barnes has also proved serviceable. I love Houser, and I think he's going to make an impact this year, but I don't think its a good idea to destroy our pen depth on top of losing the guys on top. Ok, very very very short leash with Albers, imho age done him in and the shellacking he experienced AFTER he completely recovered last year shellshocked any confidence he had prior out the window. Barnes is Not serviceable since he scrapped his 99 four seam. Strand % abysmal, ok at mop up duty. He needs traded cause we could maybe fleece a gm enamored with his power stuff.
  19. He’s one of the two high leverage arms the Brewers currently have in their bullpen, The other of course being hader. In my opinion the only other potential high leverage arm we currently have would be fields. Again in my opinion I think we’re going to have to go outside our 40 man roster through trade or signing. Only other potential high leverage arms the way I see it would be Nelson and Burnes but I think the Brewers want to keep them at starters. Also will have to keep an eye on Anderson he could also be a wildcard in this bullpen.
  20. If no Kimbrel. Replace Barnes with fields please. And Albers with houser. Package the two in a trade for lottery ticket

  22. "Went well." You mean CC didnt say "Hes just not looking good, its panic time around here!" When are we ever going to ignore these generic comments?? When we're not looking to post 50 times a day? I want to know what the info is and then decide if I want to ignore it And who’s counting?
  23. He's a Spanish language multimedia Red Sox reporter. I don't know why he'd be making things up. That was my thought. He seems to be in a position where making things up would be detrimental. He seems pretty sure. I predict he signs with us. How bout you guys?
  24. Looks like jeffress might be back at some point. Now let’s sign Kimbrel and play ball.
  25. Saw in mccalvy’s column in mlb.com. Stearns said jeffress bullpen “went well”.
