  1. Absolutely foolish if he's not. I guess an ace trumps a shutdown pen arm.
  2. Must what? Enjoy it with the knowledge that we were absolutely right? Again, you're acting as if an outlier is an opinion. It's not. What part of his 2017 season does this not describe? And why is using Wily Peralta's name in the same sentence sacrilige. They came up at roughly the same time. Wily Peralta had more talent. Many thought Wily Peralta was going to be the Brewers next ace or at least a force atop their rotation for a while. Again, he had a heavy upper 90's fastball and nasty movement on his breaking stuff. He had some success. He apparently just wasn't mentally tough enough to reach his potential. There are probably a few dozen pitchers across baseball right now that for one reason(injury) or another(effort) have the potential to be an ace, but won't. But what's wrong with pointing out that a guy who came up around the same time as Nelson and had more talent but a far inferior work ethic, had a good season, bad season and then was so bad he got like 2 chances in the pen, a role in which you'd think his stuff would be unhittable? Explain to me what I've got wrong here? Fixed my post to better reflect how I feel. Agree with Joey Meyer bombs love your post, the eyes have it over the stats. I’m old so as long as I wear my glasses I trust what I see/saw with jimmy.
  3. Feels like the movie “Ground-hog day” same stances by most of the same people over and over and over again. When jimmy wins comeback player of the year, and starts game 1 of playoffs, those of you that used word “outlier” hundreds of times must.....
  4. That's not true. I think the prevailing opinion is that it isn't a given we will see 2017 Jimmy. It's also possible we will. Your stance seems to be that we will see 2017 Jimmy because he was really good two years ago. Yes that is my stance. Takeaway the injury, and I would’ve expected to see the same ace like pitcher in 18. And now that Nelson is healthy again and with reports that his breaking stuff and command is as good as ever and he has touched 95 mph, I believe with innings his velo will tick back to where it was and he will be an ace for us again this year at some point.
  5. Yes understand your thinking, cause a short time ago I would have agreed with it. But after doing some research and realizing that the Brewers revenues have increased more in the last two years than just about any other team in baseball, we have the $ to invest in a player that is arguably the most elite at his position. The old saying you have to spend money to make money. With JJ’s injury among other things I don’t think our bullpen is a strong as you make it out to be at least starting the year. I can’t think of a single player that would help the Brewers more than Kimbrel. I think this possibility would be much more likely if Kimbrel was a one year deal candidate. Clearly that isn't the case. I don't see any way the Brewers make a major commitment to have what would be a major luxury to make the bullpen better. What if a major need arises next year or midseason? Going to be really hard to get someone, especially if it requires a longer term deal if you tie up $15mil to Kimbrel. As much as I would like to dream I don't think there is any way short term we are going to just start busting out a $150mil+ payroll because we are competing. I just see the bullpen right now differently than some. Not sure Kimbrel as much luxury as necessity. If our early season schedule wasn’t so brutal and JJ good to go it would be different. Our payroll COULD be 150+ Since our current revenue makes us a mid market franchise.

  7. MrTPlush I agree with a lot of your posts but just happen to disagree with you on this one. All the outlier talk while technically true, To me is puzzling because injury not withstanding, quite a few of you fellas had no faith in Jimmy going forward to continue to be the pitcher he was in 17. Your opinion is A good chance for Jimmy to regress, mine expect another similar year.
  8. Even without JJ the bullpen is still a major strength. We have Hader, Knebel, Claudio, Woodruff and Guerra who in previous years would all be the clear cut #1 guy. Williams and Barnes would be #2/#3 people on many bullpens and they are our 5th/6th/7th best guy. Houser would normally be treated as a top tier RP prospect had we not been so flush with RP pitching prospects in the past (like Knebel and Hader). I agree on Albers, but as the last guy on the list, that's normal to have a sunk contract you are hoping rebound. This is far and away the best brewers bullpen we've ever had and arguably the best in the league. To have 5 or 6 guys (when JJ is healthy) who can strongly handle the 8th or 9th inning and likely all be able to go more than 1 inning at at time is absolutely fantastic. Love Knebel,Hader,Guerra. Like Claudio. Not so sure we know Woody gonna be in pen, I’d feel better with him there. With-out any outside additions(Kimbrel,Gio) our pen to open the year not nearly as strong as last years playoff pen. Now maybe it will be as the season progresses but still worried about the early season schedule. No team in baseball won more games last year because of their pen than the brewers. Ugh.
  9. Is there anybody else concerned about our bullpen besides me? No jj for who knows how long, I zero faith in Albers. Same with barnes if he makes the team. Williams meh. Houser meh. Now I read on fan blog site Petricka should stick. Keep hearing how our bullpen should still be a strength, I don’t see it, at least not starting out the year when we need our bullpen at its best because of our early season schedule.
  10. I hear ya, he’s still elite even with late season slight loss of command. 98 mph FB devastating CB. Guessing demands reduced cause of lack of offers. Some have speculated he’d sign high pillow deal or high aav 2 year. I’d go 3 for 56. We have the money. Worried bout the extortion that’s going to take place at the trade deadline in NL. If we don’t sign him hope it’s because of our analytics and not $.
  11. Absolutely fantastic take! This is THE key to title. We have a good opportunity for a “super pen” at some point this year in my opinion. We could have it now with woody Burnes and peralta to pen, but hurt starting staff too much. Mid-season more realistic with a hopefully healthy jeffress.Brown,Woody,Guerra pitching 2-3 innings, Claudio, Knebel, Hader, Jeffress,Kimbrel. With our line-up and rotation > best team in baseball. Even with-out Kimbrel maybe.
  12. It's exciting isn't it! You're touching on how the final decisions will be made a little better than most. One thing people are missing is that these guys have to be ready to go through a batting order multiple times. The Brewers used Woodruff and Burnes the way they did yesterday because they know they can successfully go through an order once. All three of Peralta, Burnes, and Woodruff are on the path to being fixtures of the rotation. Being on the path does not equal starting 2019 in the rotation. Woodruff for instance only had his fastball yesterday. Another trip through the Rockies lineup likely would have been ugly. Of the 3, only Peralta has demonstrated the ability to successfully navigate a MLB lineup multiple times through the order. Burnes has yet to be called on to even attempt it. And Woodruff has fared poorly the 2nd time through. Before anyone gets up in arms, that's not to say Burnes and Woodruff can't do it, it just means they're far from locks to be called on to do it out of the gate in 2019. Peralta is also ahead of both in terms of building up innings. Here are the splits for the 3 in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd tiime through the order... Peralta - 1st (.176 BA, .315 OBP, .294 SLG, .609 OPS) Peralta - 2nd (.174 BA, .278 OBP, .276 SLG, ..654) Peralta - 3rd (.191 BA, .255 OBP, .319 SLG, .574 OPS) Burnes - 1st (.200 BA, .273 OBP, .326 SLG, .599 OPS) Burnes - 2nd - (only 1 batter faced a 2nd time through) Burnes - 3rd (none) Woodruff - 1st (.206 BA, .265 OBP, .317 SLG, .582 OPS) Woodruff - 2nd (.323 BA, .405 OBP, .484 SLG, .889 OPS) Woodruff - 3rd (only 2 batters faced a 3rd time through) Takeaways... - I don't know how anyone could look at those numbers for Peralta and not be excited. Notice also that his walk rate has gotten better the deeper he gets into the game. He doesn't nibble the 2nd and 3rd time through like many who aren't comfortable in their stuff. He attacks more. - Burnes hasn't demonstarted the ability to go through an order multiple times but he hasn't shown that he can't either. Burnes also has shown 2 very strong pitches nearly every time out including yesterday. He's very close. A 3rd pitch that he can throw 10-15% of time gets him over the hump. Again, he's very close. - Woodruff is the furthest from a lock of the 3, imo. He's been given the chance to navigate a lineup a 2nd time through and it hasn't been pretty. He needs to add more to his arsenal or he could stagnate as a very effective reliever. I have high hopes that all 3 can be fixtures of the future rotation. All 3 are displaying dominance at the major league level. All 3 have the ability to give multiple looks to major league hitters. None have taken steps backward and that's probably the most important factor in all this. Prediction for 2019... Peralta in the rotation from day 1. Burnes in the MLB bullpen from day 1, transitioned into MLB rotation full time during 2019 season Woodruff begins 2019 in AAA as a starter and makes spot starts in MLB rotation and finishes 2019 in MLB bullpen Really enjoyed Reading TBBC’s takes, hoping to see him back soon.
  13. You sir know much more about brewers prospects than any publication. It’s all about time spent studying the system. There time spread out among 30 teams, yours focused on one. Trust your judgement over any of there’s.
  14. I'd agree with you a lot more if Z. Brown wasn't in the system. Brown in milw. Some time after S-2, Webb guessing sept. If your right and it’s june/July means he crushing it or injuries. Hope the former.
  15. Not kimbrel, he’s signing with the brewers sometime before then!
  16. Peralta going nowhere except straight to the big league rotation and staying there. Goodness gracious what potential!
  17. I sure as heck hope it doesn't come to that. Ha. Me too
  18. Wily Peralta? Wow Sorry, speechless for a bit. Now that I’ve had a chance to recover let me just say Nelson in 15 and 16 young pitcher with good stuff and no command. His mechanical adjustment made in early 17 improved his curveball and command of all his pitches, hence ace like pitcher all of 17 til injury. He figured it out, like ALL good pitchers eventually do. If Jimmy not injured I’d say 90+% 2018 season similar to 2017 season.
  19. When Peralta gets the ball over the plate he’s the most unhittable starting pitcher in baseball.
  20. Good info on Tomlin. Wilkerson then if needed until Nelson gets there
  21. I agree with you on Peralta in the rotation and Woodruff to the pen. Disagree that either in AAA To get stretched out, we don’t have that luxury, not with our daunting schedule to begin the year we’re going to need all of our bullets. Tomlin in AAA as filler til Nelson.
  22. Nelson and Anderson are not comparable. Nelson has/had way way way way better “stuff”.
  23. I don't disagree with the idea behind a value Kimbrel signing, but to base it on Jeffress's health would be a mistake I think. If they sign Kimbrel, it would be to strengthen what is already a big strength, not to replace a guy that, as of right now at least, looks like he may miss the first week or so of the season. Reactionary signings are rarely a good idea. But if they determine Kimbrel is a good enough value, and he fits into what they want to do, then sure, why not? Ok then, 4 headed monster would give us a better opportunity to win it all, especially against one of the American League super teams. Also anything we can do to limit having to make a trade deadline extortion trade would be fantastic in my opinion .
