  1. The past doesn’t matter! It’s a different baseball world from 10 years ago, it’s massively different from just 5 years ago. The large markets have gotten too smart to do the dumb things of the past. Looking ahead, small market teams have no chance, unless > Tank to save $ and hoard prospects then spend like big market for 2-3-4-5 years, rinse and repeat. But the players association will try to outlaw the tank AND the low payroll, so we better get going on this before we can’t.
  2. You’ve gotta be kidding me? Just when I think it can’t go further, it does. Yes, your plan is the ONLY plan that could ever possibly work. Come on. This has to be HighHeat19 or something. When are we all going to be let in on the joke?!! Bud, there are plenty of ways in which Stearns could go in building a championship quality team. He had one a season ago. Some injuries and regression from some have most likely kept us away from something special this season. Going all nutty and batty is the exact opposite of what a quality GM does. There are pieces here and there will be opportunities to be had with players to obtain. Hopefully the right buttons will be pushed going forward with this team so your 50+ years of fandom can be finally paid off by those greedy bastards running the show. Sorry but it’s not gonna happen on a payroll 100 million less than the superteams. How could it? For all the love the Rays get for their forward thinking front office, and for good reason, they won’t win the title either, and neither will the Twins, until their payroll bumps up, which in the Twins case should happen. Same with the As, no chance. Greedy bastards? I’m assuming your referring to Attanasio? Bastard isn’t a word I would use even if I was angry. Greedy? Not sure that’s the right word I’d use to describe Mark A. He’s a wealth manager, so wouldn’t he have to be obsessed with money? At least focused on making money, right?
  3. I disagree with this. Having a low payroll can be a stealth advantage because you aren't able to hand out mega contracts (which more often than not turn out badly). With our limited payroll we have won the 7th most games in MLB since 2017. Plenty of teams that have spent more than us have won less, no team that spent less than us has won more in that time. I’m surprised that you would think this actually. So Andrew Friedman at some point won’t be able to help himself and will hand out mega contracts ? Jeff Luhnow? Brian Cashman? Derrick Falvy? David Stearns? I don’t think so. The Ivy League educated brainiac president of baseball operations People littered all over baseball are way too smart with the analytics to do this, there’s always a few > Theo, but it’s down to just a few. This is why unless changes are made to add more revenue sharing, I predict in 5-10 years we’ll have 6-10 superteams and everybody else. I know We’ve outperformed our payroll, but we can only go so far on the cheap and then it stalls, then falls. Imo, last year a tremendous amount went our way but we still missed out. It’s not gonna get easier, it’s only gonna get tougher to compete vs teams that spend 100 million more on talent than we do EVERY YEAR.
  4. Only reason I can think of that he’s not pitching for the brewers now is trade possibility. Absolutely has to be brought up August 1st if he’s still a brewer. Or that he's not on the 40-man, he's a year removed from TJ, this is the most success he's had at any level and there's 4-5 guys in front of him. And they just signed another reliever with ML experience to muddy the AAA bullpen. Every year there are guys that perform exceptionally well in the SAL, only to struggle in AAA. Olczak, Zack Brown, Miguel Sanchez, Nick Ramirez, most recently. Before it was Burnes, Burgos, Taylor Scott, Derby, Snow, Ortiz, Lopez, Jungmann. Before that, guys like Tyler Cravy, Tyler Wagner and Damien Magnifico come to mind. AA is for prospects, AAA is for pro's. Williams will likely need to show that he can get AAA batters out before taking the next step. You must not have read the new scouting reports. They think he’s ready to get big league hitters out now. The last month he’s been unhittable, 11 ip 5 h. 1 bb 19 Ks.
  5. It’s not Stearns, how could it be? He’s handcuffed by his low payroll. There can’t be anyone on this site that disagree’s with this. What you call crazy is actually the only plan that could possibly bring a title to MKE. There’s no other way. Zero. The only plan I’ve seen from you is selling off our rentals. Ok, then what? What’s your plan for the brewers to win a championship?
  6. WOW! Not sure what else to say, besides that. I sure hope we hit on a bunch of your trades this offseason, as it appears that we would be trading away just about all of our talented players (sans Hiura). And, do we really know what we have in Grisham at this stage? I know we are all excited about him right now, but this is literally his first bit of success that he's had so far in his long minor league career. Stearns is definitely not infallible, as this year plainly shows us, but I am confident in his evaluation of talent, and I’m extremely confident that the massive trading of our aforementioned players will yield the talent to immediately give us a historically elite farm, and of equal importance allow the banking of almost 200 million. I’ve seen Grisham in ST, AAA twice, and he’s the best player on the field, he’s gonna be a star player.
  7. I’ve come to the realization the brewers are not going to win a title with a chronically low payroll. Period. End of discussion. So with that said here is my plan: This deadline I strengthen my bullpen: Trade for Jake Diekman. DFA Chacín, Call-up Supak & D Williams, Burnes rehab then bullpen. Playoff rotation: Woodruff Gio Anderson Davies Bullpen: Peralta Houser Nelson Diekman D Williams Jeffress Hader Burnes This offseason: Sign Hiura to a 8 year extension. Trade the following players: Yelich Hader Woodruff Braun Cain Davies Anderson Arcia Thames Guerra Jeffress (Eat Large chunk of Braun & Cain’s contract)for 550 million in prospect capital which gives me 8+60 FV players. Add that to my farm and I have the best farm system in baseball, 9 of the top 50 prospects. 2020: I’m going to re-build around 2 players: Hiura Grisham Develop in the rotation > Burnes Peralta Houser Supak Release jimmy Nelson Develop prospects in ML Payroll > 50 million (incl.buy-outs of Moose,Grandal) 2020 profit > 80 million (bank-60mil) 2021: Sign Grisham to 8 year extension Top 5 draft pick Continue to develop prospects Payroll > 40 million 100 million profit (bank-80mil) 2022-2026 5 year window of championship contention with 2022 still low payroll > 100 million > 50 mil. Banked 2023-2026 have 190 million banked to have 200 million payrolls each of the 4 years. Attanasio used the 2015-17 profit savings on capital improvements, so we’re going to do this again, but this time it goes to payroll. This type of 2 year tank for payroll savings is the only way we can compete with the big boys and for a 4 year period we’d have a big market payroll. 5 years of ~ 20% odds > World Series
  8. I don’t see why not. If he’s throwing off the mound he must have been cleared by the doctors and I would think, would need the 6 weeks that ST affords pitchers to be ready for the season, maybe sooner since he’s a reliever. With him and Suter and Woodruff and Nelson and Burnes and possible additions this deadline, this teams September could be a lot like last year’s. Well, there's plenty reasons why not. Everything would have to go right in order for him to get back. The Brewers would also have to have some incentive at that point in the season. Also...at this point, it seems pretty obvious to everyone else that Jimmy Nelson pre-injury isn't coming back anytime soon. Corbin Burnes has been way too erratic this year. Brent Suter? There's almost no scenario in which you want to throw a guy who's coming back from TJ surgery into a playoff push. That leaves Wahl...IF everything goes right. Possible. Though without having pitched all year, he's gonna have to get a feel for his pitches real quick. And Woody. Hoping for the others to contribute is...wishful thinking. I mean, Wahl's also a little wishful thinking, but it's at least a little bit realistic. I’d actually be surprised if he didn’t pitch for the big league team sometime in September. He’s throwing off the mound, probably since he’s a reliever, doesn’t need the full 6 weeks, I’ll say he should be ready by the end of the minor league season. Can’t wait to see him throw his 100 mph FB in a brewer uniform. I’m not expecting all of Nelson Wahl Suter and Burnes to dominate the month of September for the brewers, but I wouldn’t just poo poo them either. With regards to Nelson I can definitely see potential success in a bullpen role, as with Burnes too. It’s more than possible, even if not probable.
  9. And what is the consequences of a tougher media? Literally no one is showing up with pitch forks like they might in a Yankee situation, which is about the only market where a tough media might matter. Maybe Boston too. But my point is while it may make you feel better after a tough loss, a tough media really means didly poo. Not only that but CC gave his reasoning on it. You may disagree but I agree with his decision as I am sure others here do as well. Either way, I don’t understand some people’s fetish with a tough media. A tougher media helps to get answers and in depth reasoning behind the decisions being made. Counsell just waving people like nope that's dumb gives him an air of I don't owe the fans an explanation of why I did what I did. I think the paying public does deserve more answers than they have been getting. Even the packers media is tougher than this. Having a brewers employee ask the questions after games isn't going to do any investigative journalism. How about we ask the real question that needs asked? Not to Counsell. Not to Stearns. To The owner of the brewers: Why do we not invest profits to payroll like YOU SAID YOU WOULD back when the brewers were in rebuild for a couple years. Why are we not asking this question? Why? Instead we get upset at Stearns or CC, when we should be furious with our owner. But he gets a pass, why? He sits there in his seat smiling all the way to the bank, year after year, no accountability whatsoever, with impunity to do whatever he wants with his cash cow. You bet I’m angry. It’s our fault, we come out in droves, over performing our market size by staggering amounts year after year, while we have a competitive team but not world championship caliber, but how could it be with a payroll 80-110 million less than whoever. Within the next 6 years we the fans will make the brewers worth enough to make Attanasio a billionaire just with the brewers alone. But he gets the adoration of the fans > why? He should be booed out of the stadium, handcuffing Stearns year after year, telling him he needs to compete with the big boys but do it on the cheap. Why does he get the pass?
  10. Stearns has failed numerous times managing the roster this year, poor decision after poor decision. No excuse to be short handed as many times as this team has been this year. Then there’s the Hiura situation. Instead of locking up Hiura for the next 8-9 years, he plays the super 2 game. His depth above talent mantra has backfired repeatedly. I’m beginning to think he’s not as forward thinking as this team has to have, to have anything more than a 1% chance at a title per year. We have a pitcher down below that scouts have said is ready to get big league hitters out now, not even rostered yet, let alone up with the big club, that in the last month has only given up a handful of hits with 1 bb and 19 Ks that touches 100 with a plus plus slider. Why is he not up? CC is a terrible game manager, proven this last 50-60 games over and over again. He might be a players manager but makes way too many mistakes with game management. Overrated to say the least. These are serious problems beyond belief. Maybe Stearns has just an elaborate grand plan that is just beyond anything a mortal can fathom, I hope so, but don’t think so. Maybe a team just can’t compete in this day of the Ivy League educated president of baseball ops littered everywhere, with the analytics separating the payrolls more than ever. The days of payrolls separated by more than 80-100 million winning a World Series are going away, soon to be gone forever. Mark my words. Book it. Look at baseball since KC won in 15. Cubbies Astros Red Sox. Pretty soon to be Dodgers Astros again. Yankees Braves Padres white Sox tanking, but latter 3 won’t win it till their payroll gets to 175+ million minimum. But we can keep pretending, but not really like a child, because we can’t push reality out forever, eventually the reality of the low payroll sets in, doesn’t it? But all we have to do is develop an abundance of controllable talent. Da. All 30 teams know the same thing now, so how can we get the talent of a team with 100 million more a year to spend than us for that talent? This has to end at some point in time, the low payroll has to end.
  11. Only reason I can think of that he’s not pitching for the brewers now is trade possibility. Absolutely has to be brought up August 1st if he’s still a brewer.
  12. I stand by my Albers observation. Claudio regression to the mean, due for a good streak. When used properly he’s ok, but who else do you replace if we add 2 pen arms and Nelson.? Loogy’s imo, only NEEDED vs dodgers, maybe Cubbies somewhat. But that’s why Hart is still on the 40 man.
  13. I respectfully disagree. The fans want a World Series championship. Players come and go. No one player is more important than the actual success of the team. But we’ll see what happens moving forward. Maybe Stearns will keep Yelich all 3 more years because we’re a championship caliber team all of those years. I doubt it, but it’s possible.
