  1. Ok, I’ll admit those splits aren’t nearly as pronounced as I thought they’d be. But you don’t have to be a home-run hitter to benefit from a ball that travels farther. 302 PA > 43 Ks > 14.7% Anything below 16% is considered ELITE. I’m sorry but for some to keep calling him a journeyman is a technically ok, but not really.
  2. David Freitas says hi to ya Harvey. I want to be surprised, but forgive me if I don’t buy the 30 year-old journeyman having a career year that just so happens to coincide with the AAA debut of the new homer-happy baseballs. Which HASN’T inflated his numbers because he’s NOT a homerun hitter. .370+ .460+ this year > juiced ball year. .340+ .430+ last year > non juiced ball year. But all these stats have already been shown for the last month or two in numerous threads, although they are a little higher now. .
  3. David Freitas says hi to ya Harvey. A 30-year-old minor league FA catcher part-time moonlighting at 1B doesn't mean 1B isn't a need across the organization. Sure, area of need in the organization is a fact. Waiver wire comment, to me, meant This August.
  4. This thought makes me want to throw something in frustration: Why are baseball players being promoted when they are recalled, which means they did well, but contaminated food and cars and stuff is being demoted since being recalled means they were defective? The same thing means the opposite. HOW CAN THIS BE?! I this a blue post? If not, not it is weird. As Spock would say “fascinating”
  5. Imo, the correct player optioned down, wrong player brought up. The correct player would have been Freitas, even if only for this weekend. With Grisham Williams Faria brought up recently, was hoping Stearns mismanagement of the roster was a thing of the past. Why would they bring up a 3rd catcher leaving themselves with only 4 infielders? An injury to anybody other than 1B could easily cost them a game. CC isn't going to sit Grandal and if a lefty throws, Pina is hitting lefties well. Zero need for a 3rd catcher. He’s a hitter that plays 1B and catches, I’ll take the .4% chance that there will an injury to Arcia that requires moose to cover for the rest of the game. But Stearns disagrees, or maybe it’s Counsell, probably both, so there it is. But it’s not like Stearns/Counsell have been immune from poor decision making this year.
  6. It's not unprecedented how well he's hitting against minor leaguers. Last year he hit .349/.428/.527 in AAA. The truth of the matter is the Brewers don't want to carry three catchers right now and they likely won't send Pina down because he's out of options and he's much better defensively. Freitas has thrown out 5 out of a possible 45 base stealers this year, while Pina has thrown out 6 of 17. Unless the Brewers punt on Pina - and the remaining control on his contract - Freitas is likely not coming up until September. He shouldn’t be brought up for his defense at C, but to hit LHP, and play 1B. And it should be August 31st at the latest or Stearns should be fired.
  7. christian yelich has back issues. lorenzo cain has taken a beating. orlando arcia could use a break. david freitas couldn't fill those holes. barring the outright attempt of yasmani grandal, i'm confident that freitas will be up 1 september, even before san antonio's season ends--and especially if some pitchers that he's caught are also recalled 1 september. jacob nottingham will follow once san antonio's season ends, as freitas has been far more consistent offensively this year than nottingham. I understand what your saying, but if the choice is to play Arcia in all 3 weekend games with no break to be able to Have Freitas hit instead of Hernan > Yes, gladly. Arcia has had plenty of time off this year already, is young, and I think could’ve handled playing these next 3 games.
  8. Imo, the correct player optioned down, wrong player brought up. The correct player would have been Freitas, even if only for this weekend. With Grisham Williams Faria brought up recently, was hoping Stearns mismanagement of the roster was a thing of the past.
  9. Why shouldn’t Woodruff be available? That would be just short of 10 weeks from his injury, thought it was a 6 week injury heal?
  10. Ok, just using that 60 grade as can example, could be combination of lesser prospects, just more of them, but yes, it wouldn’t be easy, but the best current hitter and one of the best pen arms make that possible imo, I know teams value their prospects today even more than just a couple years ago, but.
  11. Yes, I believe we will win the central, and here’s why: The call-ups of Grisham Williams, the outside acquisition’s of Pomeranz Faria Lyles have infused Talent and energy to this team. I would argue this team with said players has improved drastically in the last 10 days. And we’re not close to a finished product. I believe Freitas will be added to the 25 today and Ray Black any day now. Then when rosters expand add Nelson Suter Woodruff Burnes and that’s a team that should win enough games to get to 90.
  12. You nailed it with your first sentence in your last paragraph, and with facing 2 Lefty’s this weekend and coming off a 4 hit game, isn’t this weekend the perfect time to switch Shaw with Freitas?
  13. I believe Freitas with 4 more hits in last nights game has forced Stearns hand, like Grisham did with his 5 for 5 two homer cycle game, at least I hope he has. We have 18 games or so till rosters expand, I just don’t want to wait till then to call him up, when he could help us win a game we otherwise would lose because he can hit Lefties, where Shaw can’t. Manny Pina's splits vs lefties: 340/426/681/1.107 What is the likelihood that Freitas is better than this and plays the same or better defense? Freitas at 1B vs Lefty’s since as Briggs has already pointed out, he’s hitting almost .500 against them. He’s been playing 1B at AAA as well as catching. Between the 3 of them they can make it work, and it can give Grandal more rest behind the plate, and or some rest days too, which he can use imo. We face 2 lefties this weekend........
  15. Freitas with 4 MORE hits again last night including a home run. Hitting.377-.461 now. Honestly trying to understand why he’s not at a minimum in the brewers lineup crushing LHP? With the crew’s obvious WEAKNESS vs lefty’s, to have a hitter that destroys them wasting away down below when he could be helping the big league club is absolutely ridiculous, just my opinion. What does he have to do to get a call? How much better can he perform? His teammates have to be rolling their eyes at this organization’s obvious error ALL year with roster decisions, especially with regards to this player.
  16. I don't know about Davies, but why would we trade away 2 of our top players that we could realistically build the team around along with Woody? I don't want us to become another Marlins of the NL. Because imo, Selling this offseason on Yelich & Hader is maximizing prospect return and with said prospects, a better, younger team after a one year reset(to develop). Selling Hader is an easy decision: protect from injury/regression and as good as he is, he’s still only a reliever. Yelich is the tougher decision, but the prospects received would, if the right prospects, transform this team to a super young contender for many years moving forward, quickly. Another option is to sell Hader & Davies for the 3-5 quality mlb ready prospects, Keep Yelich, and plug in a couple prospects to fill holes cheaply, with more money to spend in other area’s. Remember this: next year all mlb teams get 9 million extra in the new National Fox deal. Then another 8-10 million in 2021 with the new turner/espn national deal.
  17. Now be honest, do you think any of this is actually realistic to what the Brewers will do? I have tried his “plan” many times on MLB: The Show....never...ever...did it work out. Not even close. Blowing it up and then blowing up the payroll with those prospects is a nice theory, but it takes quite a perfect situation. I love his creativity...but I doubt it would work. With a payroll that will probably never get past the “average” of all payrolls, this GM will need to be creative AND take ingenious risks to be able to compete with the clubs that will spend 80-110 million more than us every year. With Yelich and Hader on the same team with 3 and 4 years respectively of control left, imo, it’s the ultimate sell high moment for this club and with a brilliant GM(Stearns?) should be able to rebuild as fast as 15/16, maybe faster, but this time with a multitude of quality prospects and not scrap heap end of prime players Pina Aguilar. This team already has 3 young superstar type players that we didn’t have the last time in Woodruff Hiura Grisham to build off of with lots of talented young pitching already here Burnes Peralta Houser Williams. Then add 6 top prospects by the aforementioned trades not including Turang and our abundance of pitching prospects already in our system(Rasmussen Ashby Small File Bettinger Black Wahl Faria Perdomo Bennett etc.) and a free agent or two with a low payroll and it should be interesting.
  18. I have to say ... between what Williams has done this season, and Grisham's success, it's really nice to see a few of these former high round picks paying off. Perhaps things just clicked for Williams this year. So far so good. Better than outside trade acquisition’s for obvious reasons, adds a big time jolt of excitement. Pomeranz Faria Grisham Williams, now lets get Freitas to hit LHP, and Black just to see 102 on the gun.
  19. Perplexing would be my word. He’s been dominating both AA and AAA all year, and his command has improved immensely over the last 7 weeks, to the point of hardly giving up base runners. Whatever, he’s up now and should stay up.
  20. Wait till Black is called up, and possibly Burnes, Hader can go back to the fireman role he’s great at, pitch a couple innings every 3 days. Think Stearns will have a totally shut down, lock down pen by September.
  21. Ha. Ok, a couple lottery tickets will do.
