  1. But was Freitas catching? Yes, and obviously has done a terrible job pitch calling, but he is 1-1, ave up to .385 now.
  2. Our amazing lead off hitter is on the bench. You have a young player/prospect fetish...you really do. My advice?? Seek the necessary help. Better than your weird low payroll team big name pitcher acquisition at all costs scheme.
  3. Arcia is a very good glove man that has shown plenty of flashes with the bat ... but, I will admit he is frustrating in that he seems to be slipping at the plate instead of getting better ... the guy just seems afraid of the pitched ball by the way his hips/butt always are going towards 3rd base on his swings. He does not step into pitches with any sort of confidence or authority all too often. Do you hear him scream anytime the pitched ball gets close to him? Jose Iglesias should have been signed last offseason, will be more expensive this coming season to sign, but he’s worth it, besides GG defense, leads all of baseball with 2 Strike hitting, hustles down the line with everything he has, team leader.
  4. Since June 8 (first week of June) Grandal is at... 215/366/390 with six home runs. Now if you meant first week of July he is at... 233/367/311 with zero home runs. So above .200 & still with a good OBP. On the season Grandal has a 123 wRC+ vs lefties. Yes, July, thanks for the correct stats. Can you get his wRC+ the last 6 weeks or so vs lefties?
  5. Great take. It’s a no brainer. Hiura Grisham > 8 years. Any other core position player do the same thing, saves tens of millions and extends window of title contention by 2 years. Step #1 for small mid-market to have more than a 2% yearly chance at a title. It should be interesting how Stearns approaches extending internal players. If I am correct the only deal to date has been Chase Anderson. Which was a wise near zero risk deal that worked well for both sides. Can't say they have a ton of obvious guys going into the offseason. I bet Shaw was offered some nice money both of the last two years...dodged a bullet on that one. You just have to be wise about extensions and not find yourself having $20mil+ a year sunk into failed extensions. Especially guys who are total wastes and not even providing value to the team. We as a small market can definitely not afford to have that kind of waste sitting around. Exactly, wise is the word here. Position players only, during their prime performance years. No exceptions. Simple.
  6. Great take. It’s a no brainer. Hiura Grisham > 8 years. Any other core position player do the same thing, saves tens of millions and extends window of title contention by 2 years. Step #1 for small mid-market to have more than a 2% yearly chance at a title.
  7. Grisham was the 15th overall pick in the entire draft, so like Hiura the pedigree is actually there, if you want to wait that’s fine, but after 300 games the extension’s gonna cost you another 30-50 million. Low mid market team needs to be ahead of the curve to have any chance at a World Series title.
  8. I don’t hate Stearns, in fact prior to this year, unabashedly shouted from the rooftops, his being the best GM in baseball. So I’m deflated to say the least.
  9. Wow, kinda ridiculous people trying to defend this roster vs LHP. Grandal since first week of June hitting below .200 with zero homers. But let’s continue to trot him out there at 1B BECAUSE WE HAVE NO BETTER OPTIONS. The guys wore out, if he’s not catching, he’s at first, tired = slow bat = 6 week slump. Just replacing a tired slumping bat at first base with a bat that all year is hitting LHP at a .525 clip would help not just vs the lefty’s but also allow Grandal to finally get the rest he needs to be able to produce again. Now go ahead and refute just this one example of bad roster management.
  10. I think this team has proven this year that they don't always make the moves that you, me, any of us (or really, logic and common sense) dictates that they make. The team for 1.75 seasons now has generally outplayed their Pythagorean run differential as well as outplayed a lot of the projection systems. For most moves, I think the fans are generally the ones with less logic/common sense here*. A lot of moves have been to pick between bad player A and less bad player B and they have generally put enough duct tape on the thing to keep their heads above water. * - Other than maybe the Hiura move, which may have had monetary motivations behind it. Shaw almost single handily destroyed this team THIS YEAR. Same with the early bullpen shuttle, Barnes Williams Petricka Wilson etc., way way way way way way too LH hitting dependent. Why is Arcia still in this lineup instead of an upgrade, which easily could have been done at the deadline. Galvis is an upgrade by war and could have been had for salary. I could go on and on but isn’t that enough? DFA Perez? Then call him up to put in lineup vs LHP instead of calling up a player that is hitting .525 vs em. *Edited...please adhere to posting rules and etiquette*
  11. I think this team has proven this year that they don't always make the moves that you, me, any of us (or really, logic and common sense) dictates that they make. Your right on with that statement. So I suppose I should brace myself for the inevitable 2019, high school drop out type, roster move. Sometimes I wonder about common sense leaving ones mind with the “Harvard educated” diploma.
  12. If it's probable, it shouldn't be in blue... We are .500 against all lefty starters this season, so it's not probable. Against crappy leftties (worse than league average FIP) we are 7-4. Perez, however, is right in the sweet spot of mediocrity (99 FIP- / 102 ERA-) this year. I guess they'll just have to play the actual game & see what transpires. Not probable correct. But since we’re 5 over vs RHP, less likely to win than if facing RHP.
  13. No way Austin gets AB’s before Freitas. Austin is a power bat, high K, we already have a boatload of em in our lineup. He’s a depth move.
  14. I have a difficult time understanding why they haven't given the guy at least a cup of coffee. I think those AAA stats are largely a mirage, but at some point the guy's numbers are so other-worldly that there has to be some substance to them. No mirage, watching this guy hit, which I’ve been doing the last couple weeks, he’s a great hitter, doesn’t strike out, doesn’t have great power, but puts the bat on the ball, like Grisham, with authority. Juiced ball not helping him as much as other AAA sluggers, I’m convinced if given 300+ AB’s he’ll hit .300 in the big leagues. Him and Pina are gonna do just fine next year as our C’s
  15. Ha, getting kinda used to Stearns poor decision making with regards to the roster, so whatever. I might have started out as the “resident Freitas fan” but most on this board have come around to the fact that this “Journeyman” is more than that, and will probably help the big league team moving forward.
  16. Teams are going to do it the rest of the year against the Brewers. The front office made this bed, and now they are unfortunately forced to sleep in it. I totally understand that lefty power plays well in Miller Park, but this team went overboard with it, and is now paying the price. Simple move today would have been to option Gamel to make room for Freitas, with Grandal getting some off days. Imo, Grandal is worn down, slow bat, 6 week slump, needs to rest. Why this isn’t being done, with Yelich back now is causing me to lose faith in Stearns even more than I already have this year with his chronic mismanagement of the roster.
  17. With everything being equal(Attendance),if Stearns/Attanasio decide to go for it in 2020, instead of re-tool, payroll could be 9 mil higher(136) and still make the same profit. So based upon that figure, and the fact of wanting to leave room for potential additions at the deadline, I’m guessing payroll near this year’s payroll, so with Increases in salary(Yelich Cain) arbitration etc. that probably doesn’t leave room for a Higher salaried FA pitcher. Which based upon Stearns history isn’t his M/O anyhow. So agree with FV here.
  18. Freitas 2 more hits .383 .468 Corey Ray 4 more Ks, gonna be tough to trade moving forward, what a disastrous draft pick.
  19. Totally agree with this take. His pitch framing and decent arm doesn’t make up for his dropped balls and passed balls, Pina is a superior C, although imo, he’s had an off year, at least compared to his previous years.
  20. Depends on which way Stearns/Attanasio decide to go: A.) 1-2 year re-tool > this imo, is the way to go, but Attanasio/Stearns might not have the courage/stomach for it. Trade Yelich Hader Davies Cain Anderson for prospects. Rotation: Woodruff Houser Burnes Peralta Suter Supak Bettinger B.) Compete in 2020 > trade Davies Rotation: Woodruff FA FA Houser Anderson Burnes Peralta Suter Supak Bettinger
  21. Someone in that dugout needs to slap some sense into him. His obsessive overuse of Guerra and Claudio would be comical if it wasn’t so asinine.
  22. Hurdle is misunderstood around these parts. Other than this year, gets his players to consistently play above their talent level, year after year. In the rare years when they had talent, got them to win almost 100 games. Absolutely great manager, great motivator, players love him. His pitching Philosophy is pitch up and in > smart, since studies have shown ave down after the high and tight one, and after the hit by pitch. If the team you were managing was consistently outmanned talent wise, wouldn’t you try to gain any advantage you could over your opponent?
  23. If Hurdle gets fired, we should fire Murphy and hire Clint as our new bench coach. Counsell can learn a lot from him, especially with how to handle the pitching staff.
