  1. Yes this year much lower K %. Smoak was a big time prospect when he first came up and was also a big time disappointment for years, then he found something in 2017, had a great year, last year he was good, this year good. Ops+ 137 121 127 so he’s definitely a better hitter than Thames the last 3 years. He’s not perfect obviously but for 2.75 mil-5 mil a big upgrade.
  2. Interesting take you had in April, which is in agreement with my take, but now 5 weeks later you do a 180, and this is after Thames has regressed since your comments. Why? Is disagreeing with every take I have no matter how you really feel the thing to do? This is severely twisting my words. I like that Smoak is a switch hitter, simply because I'm not a big fan of platoons. That's it. Far far cry from a 180. That doesn't mean Smoak is a good fit for this ballclub, or that he is even a sizable enough improvement over what we have to justify the cost. I'll also note that Smoak has cooled down considerably since this supposed interest was first noted. He's quickly reverting back to career norms. Again, you need to CALM DOWN! Just cool it on the constant dead horse beating and enjoy being a fan Trust me, you'll enjoy the game a lot more. I really don’t understand your post, but maybe that’s just me. Sounded to me like you were just sick of watching Thames K at 35-38% of his plate appearances, which I can totally understand since I’m sick of it too. Also, why do people keep saying: give up prospects for little if any upgrade. Forget the splits, his on base is almost.380 ops over .850 on pace for 30+ Hrs 100+ rbi. Ops+ 127. And to me the most important stat is > 17.5%bb and 18.9%K. Power hitter that doesn’t strike out, can move a runner over, sac fly. I believe Keith when he says he’s one of the most unlucky hitters in all of baseball. But let’s continue to say Not much difference between them, but yet continue to complain about our lack of moving runners over, getting runners in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, continue to leave the bases loaded, and not want the perfect first baseman to start to change that. A middling prospect or two, and 5 mil today or 2.75 mil close to the deadline. After the trade of Thames and Aguilar we bring up Hiura and suddenly we have not just a better offense, but a more versatile team.
  3. He’s a great clubhouse presence by all accounts, he’s got the title everyone else on the team is chasing, and of course the numbers are great right now. We know Miller plays small for lefty power; it helped make Thames a serviceable major leaguer and Yelich went from borderline all-star to bona-fide superstar. All of this makes Moose a great fit. I love Moose, but—forgive me for noticing—he’s a streaky player who is prone to brutal stretches where he pops it up at an alarming rate. His career pop-up rate is 16% (for comparison, Shaw is just over half that at 9%). If the Brewers commit to him at corner infield and expect to hit him in the middle of the order, I’d want to feel a bit better about the consistency of his approach at the plate. And, if we’re excited about a sample this size in 2019, why aren’t we troubled now by his 2018 post-trade sample of equal size? Recency bias is easy to fall into here. Paying for career numbers after age 30 rarely works out well, especially for small clubs. That being said, if Shaw is done (and could we even know that for sure by the end of the year?) and/or Hiura isn’t what we expected (same question?), we should all be happy to have Moose. But those are all some big ifs at this point. Nailed it! This is exactly what I think, agree with every word. I will only add, I believe Stearns has seen enough of Shaw, and imo, is secretly hoping Shaw can turn it around for not just the benefit of the team the rest of this year, but will make it easier to trade him this offseason.
  4. You trying to lecture someone on what an opinion is... Thames and his OPS would be right around the middle of the pack in terms of production at that production. Aguilar has absolutely stunk. If he continues, the simple fix is to simply not play him and release him. If we need help vs. LHP... Grandal can play there. Braun can play there. Moose can play there. Shaw can play there. Heck guys like Perez and Nottingham can play there. All options without giving up prospects or money as there just are not that many LHP's that we face. The lecture was from you not me, look at your first post this morning. It’s become a constant, belittling post from you on my posts. But, if it makes you feel better, go ahead continue on.
  5. Again, that’s your opinion, and that’s fine. But mine like the aforementioned take is more contact, less Ks, just as much or more power, will help the lineup. Wouldn’t you like to see runners moved over, even just a little more? An occasional sacrifice fly with a runner on 3rd less than 2 out? If 5 mil is too much to spend to have this better hitter in the lineup for the next 4+ mo. Then wait till closer to the deadline and it’ll cost 2.7 mil I'd like to see Mike Trout in CF instead of Cain but that is a want, not a need. I also don't post that I want Mike Trout in every single thread. See the difference yet? Again your OPINION. Some, not just me, see the 2nd worst production at first base in ALL of baseball as a MASSIVE weakness and don’t think we have the in house solution to that massive weakness.
  6. Agree with not sending Burnes down. I believe the crew will be rewarded with their patience. Imo, no way the crew goes with 7 pen arms, not with the consistent short starts from Anderson Chacín and CCs M/O with the pen. Hiura’s gone on Monday, and won’t be back, barring injury, until Aguilar and or Thames are traded, which I hope is well before the deadline.
  7. What does this even mean?? It means it’s uncomfortable for players to be around someone struggling soooooooo badly for an entire 2 mo. Outside of a week.
  8. Again, that’s your opinion, and that’s fine. But mine like the aforementioned take is more contact, less Ks, just as much or more power, will help the lineup. 9. The problem with your scenario is that next year they would add $16M, plus they need to pick up the $11M for Moustakas, and if the re-sign Smoak that's another $9-11M added on. They also have Knebel, Shaw, Davies, Perez, Guerra, Gamel, Arcia, and Suter arby eligible. With the payroll already at a Brewer record, money becomes a major factor. No Grandal > 18 mil No moose > 9 mil That’s = 27 mil New Fox deal > 9 mil That’s = 36 mil - 16 mil = +20 mil to keep payroll where it’s at now. Then in the last year of Kimbrel’s contract: New turner & Espn deal > 10 mil(EST.) New local tv deal > 8 mil(EST.) No Braun contract > 14 mil( less 2 mil buyout) That’s 32 mil. - 16 mil. kimbrel = +16 mil. To keep payroll the same. That doesn’t include extra revenue from attendance, corporate sponsors, licensing, playoff revenue.

  11. I totally get people wanting him down, but who do bring up, Williams? He’s terrible in high leverage. It’ll be interesting to see what the crew does. If the choice is Williams Barnes I’ll stick with Burnes.
  12. He’s just a better pitcher than gio or Chacín. But especially in the pen. Like I said earlier his FB upticks which helps chase more than the uptick helps gio or Chacín.
  13. Another short start looming for chase. When Nelson’s back he should go to the pen. Throwing too many pitches, plus he relies on his FB more than gio or Chacín, and he’ll get a tick or 2 more in the pen.
  14. I believe a team will give up a real prospect/prospects for an ultimate change of scenery candidate. Would think a tanking/rebuilding team be the team so they can put him at first and just let him play.
  15. What I want is team that can win a championship. How can we improve enough to get past the dodgers? Without giving up Turang Ashby Rasmussen Burnes or any other of our future? My plan spends 12 mil. Loses no prospects, gives us a better offense, the best bullpen in baseball, and a real shot at beating the dodgers. With a payroll 60 million less than them at 139 mil.
  16. Here’s what I’d do ASAP: 1.) trade for Justin Smoak now > Cost 5 mil. & a couple middling prospects. 2.) Trade Aguilar asap for whatever I could get. Every game he’s in the dugout is a negative influence thru no fault of his own, just is. 3.) Sign Kimbrel next week for 3 yrs at 42 mil. 10 mil this yr and 16 the next 2. 4.) Trade Thames for whatever I could get/salary relief. Then i re-evaluate as we get closer to the deadline. Add 15 mil to this year’s payroll with Smoak and Kimbrel and subtract a few mil trading Thames. Smoak will help our offense with power Walks and no Ks, and Kimbrel can dominate the 9th from July thru oct.2021.
  17. “ all the chips are in now. We’ll find the money at midseason if we need to.” Brew Crew ball. Feb.22,2019.
  18. Great take on what should happen, especially considering Mark A. Said putting aside money for trade deadline deals. But we’ll see how much he’s willing to spend. If he increases payroll by 20 million, Stearns can turn this team into a juggernaut. But we’ll see.
