  1. I think it really depends on how Anderson does. He stunk coming out of the pen early this year. 10 IPs - 11 hits - 5 ERs - 4 BBs. He can be a very effective starter if he can keep the ball in the park. IF he pitches well today it will be a good situation to have for CC. When Nelson returns, it will be either Anderson or Chacín to the pen. Both gonna get a start or two before, if both pitch well I’d say 75/25 Anderson to the pen, mostly because he’s been there already this year, and adjusted well. Burnes and Peralta should pitch out of the pen. Peralta in the 2-4 inning role and Burnes in high leverage only, pressure packed situations he obviously relishes. Barring catastrophic injuries, neither is pitching out of the rotation anymore this year, but both can help strengthen the bullpen.
  2. This braves team the best of the east imo. And their only real weakness, the bullpen, should get better as the season moves forward. Tough team to beat. Great to have Anderson back. This pitching staff has sure been a work in progress, but I’m confident that by the middle of June, with Nelson back and pitchers settling into roles, we’ll have one of the best staffs in baseball.
  3. Nobody is talking about it because they said before spring training there wasn’t an inning restriction. They aren’t protecting a 19 year old prospect, it’s a veteran pitcher in the middle of his career coming off two years rest. Didn’t know the crew said that, great, thanks for clarifying.
  4. Barnes is a fantastic mop up pitcher. All these comments about Burnes are gonna look so silly moving forward. He WILL help us win a World Series. Barnes, barring catastrophic injuries, will stay in AAA or be DFA’d. You can say he’s paid to get outs all you want, but it doesn’t change the fact CC left him in too long. And for peoples not to see that, is just denying the obvious.
  5. Williams pitching well, he can replace Barnes any day now. Or houser when Anderson activated.
  6. I'm just going to quote this for the overall insane oddity of its almost correctness, but not quite. Similar to our 9th inning rally--which in the end, means...nothing..... It is the right thing to do, apologize for not taking him out sooner. It’s what you would do if you were manager, it’s what I would do, and it’s what CC will do.
  7. In 2018, he may have had a sub-Uecker average in 89 plate appearances, but was still 1.6 wins above replacement. Overall, he had 4.2 wins above replacement in Milwaukee. As a 4th outfielder, not conventional in terms of his offensive profile, but he provides excellent defense. But, the thing is, and I know this is going to be hard to believe, but since leaving the crew he’s actually REGRESSED as a hitter. But minor league deal then in sept as a pinch runner/ defensive replacement could help us win a game? We just can’t let him hit.
  8. Couple two tree more starts like that & Jimmy should be ready to go. It's almost starting to feel real. I think 2 at the most. Hoping it’s just 1. I promise you jimmy knows he’s ready, and wants up for his next start.
  9. Jimmy Nelson showing the baseball world he’s ready makes this a good day for the Brewers. I hope they pitch him on 4 days rest for his next outing then on to Milwaukee to pitch for the big club.
  10. Ok, I will say not a lot of choices tonight with respect to who to pitch the 6th. Barnes Albers Houser Peralta Burnes. Houser pitched yesterday so he out. Peralta being saved for tomorrow’s game? So that leaves Burnes Albers Barnes. So ok Burnes, to pitch the 6th. But when the whole world saw he not have it, why leave him in for the last 2 home runs. That was terrible.
  11. Burnes down for Anderson... get Burnes straightened out. Stearns not sending Burnes to AAA. He’s pitching in this pen, thank you very much for your concern though.
  12. I'm not sure why I respond to you, but 0-3 in the 6th isn't mop-up duty. If he can't get the juices flowing in a game like that and he's only good when he gets his shot of adrenaline, the guy is going to have a short career. I don't think he will. I think he'll figure out how to pitch coolly in all situations and end up as a very good starter for us. But right now his role is either middle relief at the MLB level or starting in the minors. 0-3 in the 6th is the very definition of middle relief and when he should be used. We will just agree to disagree then. Some pitchers just pitch better in relief with the game on the line > Burnes. And some pitch well in mop up roles > Barnes
  13. They have a # 2 type starter in AAA, that’s ready for the big leagues they can’t bring up yet because he’s on 5 days of rest. I think one more start in AAA, with 4 rest days, then to Milwaukee.
  14. Still is a great option. Just should not be pitching in games we trail by 3 that seem like more.
  15. If that's the case, the guy is going to need to work in high leverage games in San Antonio, because we are trying to get to a World Series here. Agree. High leverage is earned. Coddling can happen in AAA. Send for Taylor Williams. So you want Taylor Williams over Burnes? Really? One bad inning of relief in a game he never should have pitched in. Watch burnes in high leverage situations > totally different pitcher than we saw today. If I were Stearns I’d ask CC what the heck?
  16. Jeffress has been moved back to his high leverage spot along with Guerra and Hader. Claudio has his SMOG role (SouthpawMultipleOutGuy). Houser, Albers, Burnes, and Barnes are the candidates to pitch when down or up a lot. Albers and Houser pitched yesterday. It was the perfect Burnes spot and he turned it into the perfect Barnes spot. Woulda been nice if those two could finish the game but I'd imagine Claudio (or Perez) will get those honors. Totally disagree that Burnes clumped with Houser Barnes Albers. Last year s pen performance and even this year’s prior, high leverage.
  17. If that's the case, the guy is going to need to work in high leverage games in San Antonio, because we are trying to get to a World Series here. He was great in a high leverage role last year, and same this year, he’s not a non- high leverage pitcher. Period. Barnes Albers.
  18. Angry at CC. Why leave him in this long to give up 2 extra hrs. Worst decision he’s made all year. Barnes should have been in this inning to begin, but certainly before last 2 home runs. I hope he apologizes to burnes and takes responsibility for this debacle.
  19. One of the few disagreements I’ve had this year with CC in bringing in Burnes down 3, but the way Fried pitching might as well be 10. Burnes high leverage adrenaline type pitcher, bad decision. Barnes could have 2, Albers an inning.
  20. This team just doesn’t manufacture runs, I’m beginning to think it’s not stressed, by the front office, CC whatever. Maybe their analysis has determined it’s not worth changing there homerun approach, I don’t know the answere here, just grasping at straws.
  21. Donaldson is a shell of his former self, injuries and age taken their toll.
  22. Just sitting down to read this thread. From everyone’s reaction I thought it would be 7-0 as well. Fried completely dominating us. 3 run deficit seems insurmountable because of him.
  23. Braves 4 two strike hits. Move runners over, manufacture runs, play good defense, good manager, tough team to beat.
