  2. You mean other than actually being able to get on base right? His OBP last season was .267. Yeah, I know.... small sample. Are you talking about the same guy everyone else is? I think everyone's getting kind of confused by your intense opposition to him, haha. Dickerson had a bad season last season with only 106 sporadic plate appearances, but even including that season his 3 year major league numbers look pretty decent: .267/.356/.403 8 HR 20 SB / 6 CS 101 OPS+ 4.9 Batting Runs Above Average 11.9 Fielding Runs Above Average 3.2 WAR ... in 527 PAs Doesn't seem like the awful player you've been describing... Plus, although it was bad last season, your .267 OBP is just wrong (.271 with Brewers, .250 overall, but like you said, small sample size)
  3. Living in Baltimore, I heard Andy MacPhail on the radio this morning and he said the last two priorities for the Orioles offseason are to address the 1B situation and add another RP. I'd be down for a Prince/Axford for Tillman/Arrieta/Josh Bell type deal that gives us a couple extra arms to flip for Greinke. The Orioles are desperate for power and Prince would look real nice next to Mark Reynolds in that lineup and the O's (or at least the fans around here) seem to be souring a little bit on Tillman and Bell especially. Bell's another big bat with questionable defense, but it'd be nice to have another guy (especialyl a switch hitter) to throw into the mix in trying to fill Prince's shoes in the lineup. I'm sure it's still a pipe-dream to get Greinke, but I will LOVE this team if we can get ahold of him.
  4. Run support has little to no effect on pitching effectiveness. The lack of a DH in the NL makes the league more pitcher-friendly for all pitchers. In general, a pitcher will tend to have better results in the NL. This is exactly my point. I don't think that the assumption that the NL will help his numbers can be used to justify a contract offer nor can it be used to minimize the risk of regression. Why use something that naturally occurs to justify pay/contracts? It's a matter of perception. Since the Brewers are in the NL, we're used to seeing NL pitcher numbers. So when we see AL player John Smith is a 4.50 ERA pitcher in the AL, we adjust his numbers to what they might be in the NL to reflect that he isn't the equivalent of a 4.50 ERA pitcher in th AL... So while, assuming the same offensive talent on AL team A and NL team B, the adjustment won't result in more success for pitcher John Smith, the adjustment shows that a player with John Smith's numbers in the AL will result in more success for NL team B than a player with the same numbers that played in the NL.
  5. And more importantly, why don't they just call the inverted W an M?
  6. Awesome, thanks everyone! The guy lives about an hour from me, so I'm not even going to bother to meet up with him. Any thoughts on brands/models to keep an eye open for or to avoid? Looks like a lot of Squiers and Ibanez Gios out there in my price range. I also got an offer for a Dean EVO XM.
  7. Back-story -- I've been playing an acoustic guitar the past couple years and I'm looking into getting my first electric guitar. I have a nice digital camera (Sony 14.1 MP - $200 at Best Buy) that I never use that I'm trying to swap on Craigslist for one. Anyways, I have a couple guys I'm talking to, one's offering me a Squier with a small amp and a bunch of accessories that pretty much gives me everything I need to get started. But another guy is offering me a Fender Stratocaster... which would be awesome, even though I'd still have to find everything else to go along with it, if it's legit... So anyways, the guy has been pretty vague saying he doesn't know anything about the guitar, even where it was made. He doesn't have the cord for it and says it needs new strings, but other than that it's good as new and it's just been sitting in his basement, not being used. And all he's been able to give me is this fuzzy picture of it: Pic of Possible Stratocaster So what do you guys think? Think it's a knock off? Sounds too scuzzy for me and I'm thinking it'd be better to take the deal with the Squier and amp, etc.
  8. Awesome, thanks guys! Just as a follow up, here are my favorite apps/widgets/games so far: Apps: Battery Indicator (puts a battery life percentage in the status bar) Carrr Matey (pirate themed app that uses gps to mark your location, ie. parking spot, to return to later. worked like a charm at the philadelphia game last weekend!) Chrome to Phone (sends your current webpage in Google Chrome to your phone with one click) CraigsNotifica (allows you to set filters and get alerts from Craigslist listings) Dolphin Browser HD Google Goggles Handcent SMS Happy Hours (finds happy hours near you) Meebo IM Movies (Flixster) Reverse Lookup (does reverse lookups on unknown incoming numbers) SayMyName Dessert Shazam Tabular (guitar chords/tabs) TV Guide Mobile Widgets: ESPN ScoreCenter Jorte (calendar) Multicon (lets you display 4 or more apps in one block) The Weather Channel Other Games/Fun Stuff: Chuck Norris Jokes & Facts Epic Fails Throw a Panda Toss It Unblock Me
  9. I bought an HTC Evo yesterday and was just wondering if anyone had any favorite apps that I should look at getting for it. By the way, I'm loving it so far. Its integration with gmail, facebook, twitter, etc. is really slick! And I happen to live in Baltimore where most of the area actually has 4G coverage, which is awesome.
  10. Hi BrewerFan Nation, With so many options out there, I was wondering if any BrewerFan.netters had any favorite Windows-based text editors? I'm a web programmer that works mainly in PHP, HTML, JavaScript and CSS. So having code helpers (language specific function references, color coding, tag finishing, code formatting, etc.) and possibly a built-in FTP client would be cool.
  11. Team Streak! Wooo! Wait...
  12. BTW, my friend and I will be sitting in the front row of right-centerfield wearing our Brewer gear! Maybe you'll catch us nabbing some Brew Crew homers throughout the game http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. So I'm going to my first game at Nationals Park tomorrow night since moving to Baltimore a few months ago. Right now I'm planning on parking in either the $5 (HH) or $10 (W) lot and walking from there. Does anyone have any experience or reasons to steer away from one or the other (i.e. bad neighborhoods to walk through late at night after the game). http://washington.nationa...ividual_game_parking.jsp Thanks!
  14. Let's go Brewers! Let's hold onto first place tonight! FEAR THE BEER!
  15. 2007-2009 averaged for 450 at-bats: AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS Kendall 450 44 110 22 2 2 42 40 12 46 6 3 .243 .320 .313 .633Zaun 450 57 111 28 1 13 59 64 3 76 1 2 .246 .342 .397 .739 This is why people like OPS over batting average. While it's not the end-all, be-all in statistics, it better reflects a player's overall offensive contribution. Zaun's significantly better production in extra-base hits and walks aren't reflected in his batting average. In turn, you can see his better on-base and power skills have resulted in more runs and rbis as well. I'd be very surprised to see Zaun have a year anything close to as poorly as what Kendall's done recently.
  16. Can we lock and archive these threads each year so we can look back at how ridiculous they are? I try to laugh them off, but they still irritate me somehow, lol
  17. I've seen some online tutorials on how to make this work. It would be great for use with my current home entertainment setup. I was just wondering if anyone's given this a try, how it went and if they have any tips/suggestions. Thanks!
  18. Does MLB.TV come with a decent amount of Spring Training games? I know there aren't a whole lot that are televised anyways, but MLB.com's Spring Training schedule doesn't show ANY games with MLB.TV links associated with them right now. I'm thinking of getting MLB.TV this season and just curious if it's worth pushing my decision early enough to get some Spring Training games. If nothing else, I guess it'd still be nice to get it for the audio feeds.
  19. Has anyone subscribed to both MLB.TV and NBA League Pass? I just ordered NBA League Pass and was wondering how MLB.TV compares to it. So far it's been as good as I would expect, but I'm mostly curious if MLB.TV's HD content is ACTUALLY HD quality. Thanks!
  20. I'll go with Dave Krynzel. He was just fun to watch and I was really hoping he'd turn into a Grady Sizemore type. I'll always remember that homerun he stole in left center field after setting up in right center. The guy was wicked fast!
  21. I just moved here a couple weeks ago. Just wondering if there are any other fellow Brewer fans in the area!
  22. I like it as a low-risk, high-reward signing. I was hoping we'd sign him last year in case Hart had an off-year... Hope he does well and provides us with a threat off the bench! As a side-note, the lefty-dominated bench doesn't bother me at all with our righty-dominated lineup. Are people worried that the other teams will use their lefty-specialists against our pitcher/pinch-hitter spot late in games as opposed to when Fielder comes up? Not to mention most of our games will be against righties, so often one of our "bench" guys will be starting to give a right-handed hitter a day off, resulting in a right-handed bench player. The worry just seems overblown to me.
  23. I just moved to Baltimore a week ago and single-game tickets went on sale here yesterday. I do find it perplexing how most of the teams aren't advertising when their tickets go on sale. I'm hoping to swoop up some Brewer tickets when they go to D.C. and Philly this year!
  24. I think Mulder's a foregone conclusion to sign, but I'd be stoked to get Bedard as well. He's a step up from Wolf and on par with Gallardo when healthy. I'd love to see a Gallardo/Bedard/Wolf/Bush/Parra rotation going into the season with some quality depth in Mulder/Capuano/Suppan/Narveson.
