    I fear he’s been dealt a bad hand, like Hodgson at Liverpool. You lose Woodruff, Burnes, Devin for half a season, Miley for a few weeks… He’s gotta avoid a disastrous first 6 weeks, which is a scenario which can’t be ignored with this much change - see Packers 1984. I wish Mark would do right by Murph and add one more impact player, helping the club and injecting some energy/confidence for the first month.

    This is the first time we're seeing LHP Darrell Thompson this spring and perhaps the first time we've ever seen LHP Mark Manfredi's name (24-year old, 9th round draft pick in July 2023 who started 15 of 16 games for Dayton University last year).

    Thank you Mass Haas. Digging further, I think you’re correct as the definition of Domestic Reserve List apparently doesn’t include optioned players. Cool - so that’ll free up about 11 places (assuming 3 MLB 40-man roster players are on short-term injury stints).

    In respect of the 165-player stateside Minor League roster limit (excluding players on long-term injured lists): We presently have 34 players remaining in Major League camp, with an expectation that we'll place Devin Williams on the injured list, option 6 players to AAA and reassign the 1 remaining non-roster invitee (Arroyo). So that's 7 players coming to the Minor League side By perhaps no coincidence whatsoever, we've just placed 7 Minor League players on long-term injured lists today (Low, Knarr, Calzadilla, McGee, Crow, Morelo, Reyes) That said, I don't actually see a real roster crunch until ACL ball starts in the first week of May, as that's when we'd formally promote about 15 players to stateside ball

    Thank you for this. There are soooo many players to watch. I’d bet that at least one of Tyler Woessner, Alexander Cornielle or Edwin Jimenez makes a terrific mark at AA Biloxi this year. Then I’m also praying for a bounce back year for Kevin Briceno and/or Brailin Rodriguez (in addition to Knarr and Seminaris whom you mentioned) after dealing with injuries. Then there are the recent draft picks like Ryan Birchard and Mark Manfredi. And what about 18-year old Manuel Rodriguez? The club has appeared relatively high on him in the past. Let’s see some breakouts!!

    My understanding is that drops us to 34 players in Big League camp, so there are 8 more moves to go. I believe that Arroyo is the only NRI player remaining. So if he gets re-assigned and Devin is put on the injured list, we’ll still need to act on 6 other players - e.g. option, injured list or DFA. I still think the biggest question we face is whether to roster Miley or shelve him for the first 15 days of the season. He’s scheduled to start this Thursday.

    INFs Gregory Barrios and Daniel Guilarte continue to be flip-flopped versus conventional expectation. This is the first time I'm seeing 22-year old undrafted RHP Harrison Durow (signed July 31, 2023) listed in any game.

    I think that this is the first sign we've had 21-year old RHP Kevin Briceno is healthy in at least a year. Principally a starting pitcher, he missed the 2023 season after terrific results in the DSL in 2021-2022 and a 6-game stint in the Arizona Complex League in July/August 2022.

    The colors aren't consistent from day to day, but red is generally lefties, black is generally righties, blue is generally switch hitters. Except for the first day, when green was switch hitters. And today, Noah Campbell is in green when he should be in red. And the whole "AAA" lineup today is in blue, which is not correct. So it's spring training for media personnel as well, though we're grateful for the effort to disclose information to us.

    We've enough optionable players that we shouldn't need to trade Haase until the right deal opens up. And that right deal may likely depend on another team's #1 or clear #2 catcher going on the 60-day injured list. Also, until Brian Navarreto is clearly healthy in AAA, an immediate trade of Haase risks Quero being the "next man up", which I'm not certain is the organization's preference. So there's probably no rush to DFA or trade Haase, as we watch for Sanchez and Navarreto to get back to peak catching shape.

    Lost 4-3 on a walk-off wild pitch (swinging strike) that could have just as easily been called a passed ball on Wood. Yeager had come in to pitch after Knoth got up to 19 pitches in the frame. Cool to see our future stars playing together. Let’s do it again next year.

    Since the original Spring Breakout roster announcement on March 7, the team has added RHPs Ryan Middendorf, Blake Holub and RHP Brett Wichrowski, along with C Matt Wood. Also, LHP Robert Gasser was removed. This looks like our second sign that the club is more excited about 21-year old Wichrowski than originally expected.

    If all three catchers remain healthy, we may end up trading Haase like we did Kratz a few years ago, this time for a slightly better prospect

    Agreed, but the Manager announced Brice as the Opening Day second baseman, which I’m maybe taking too literally!

    INF Freddy Zamora made his first known appearance of the spring in Tuesday’s Brewers game, which is great(!) but it also muddies the AAA roster waters a bit. But it always works itself out. Let’s see…projected starts per week: - C: Quero 4, Clarke 2 - 1B Black: 4, Clarke 1, Miller 1 - 2B: Miller 3, Dunn 2, Collins 1 - 3B: Dunn 3, Black 2, Capra 1 - SS: Capra 3, Zamora 3 - OF: Wiemer 4, Perkins 3, Roller 3, Hicklen 3, Campbell 3, Collins 2 DH: Clarke 2, Wiemer 1, Perkins 1, Roller 1, Quero 1 Okay, no, this doesn’t work. And I didn’t even count Arroyo or Hernandez. 2-3 players will be put on the shelf, DFA’d, injured, take an early opt out or be sent to AA.

    This seems relatively significant. Ideally, we’d put Miley on the Injured List NOW and activate him a few days into the season, but I don’t think 15-day IL placements are allowed until Opening Day. So if we think Miley will be effective a few days into the season, it’s easier to just roster him from the start. He could pair up with Junis for the first two weeks, for instance.

    Thank you for this. Love the player-focused articles with technical details which tell us what level these guys are really working at. Junk and Myers both flashed some decent velocity in late season bullpen work last year, but I suspect they’ll both commence the year as long innings guys in Nashville.

    He got a $4 million buy-out, so it was really an $8 million option decision. That said, I've no idea if we could get him for $8 million OR if we'd be willing to pay it.
