  1. More common pre-2009 when we didn’t have a DSL team. From 2009 onward, I’m only seeing Mario Perez in 2019. I wouldn’t count Jolon Zhao, since we wouldn’t likely send an Asian signee to the DSL.
  2. That’s the 2nd indication we’ve gotten that the team is high on now-17 year old RHP Aldrin Gonzalez, who’s apparently skipping DSL ball and coming directly stateside. Here’s a note from earlier in the year:
  3. And now the box score is active for DSL Brewers-2's opening game, with the squad leading the Braves 9-3 in the top of the 6th inning and 17-year old RHP Bryan Rivera getting the start. Opening Day DSL Brewers-2 Lineup: Filippo Di Turi - SS (first year player) Antony Gomez - CF (first year player) Roderick Flores - 2B (first year player) Eric Martinez - C Ramon Moreno - RF (first year player) Fabricio Valera - LF Luis Lameda - 3B (first year player) Pedro Ibarguen - DH (first year player) Smarlin Espinal - 1B (first year player) X - Bryan Rivera - P
  4. When I looked earlier today, there were active box scores for 23 of today's 25 DSL games, with only the Brewers' games showing no lineups or other data. Now, DSL Brewers-1's game is showing and they trail 2-1 in the 8th inning, despite outhitting the Athletics 8-to-3 and starting 18-year old LHP Anthony Flores essentially being perfect through 4 innings: 1-of-12 batters reached base on an error and he was promptly picked off. Flores K'd 8 of the 12 hitters he faced. Opening Day DSL Brewers-1 Lineup: Joan Gutierrez - 2B (first year player) Kevin Ereu - SS (first year player) Yophery Rodriguez - CF (first year player) Pedro Tovar - RF (first year player) Gery Holguin - 1B Yannic Walthier - C (first year player) Idalberto Santiesteban - LF (first year player) Irving Igualas - DH Luiyin Alastre - 3B (first year player) X - Anthony Flores - P
  5. For the week, Carolina (5-1) and Wisconsin (4-2) were series winners, while Nashville (3-3) and Biloxi (3-3) each earned splits, with the Sounds wishing they’d held on in the clincher. Sunday’s Game Balls go to Justin Jarvis, Willy Adames, Luis Urias, Alexander Cornielle and Jackson Chourio, with honorable mentions to Felix Valerio and Eduardo Garcia. Today, don’t miss our first Monday Minor League action, as the ACL Brewers, DSL Brewers-1 and DSL Brewers-2 squads have their Opening Day. Transactions: LHP Bennett Sousa recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville RHP Jake Cousins optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers SS Willy Adames sent on rehab assignment to High-A Wisconsin Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Charlotte 10, Nashville 8 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review the affiliate write-up as part of their Link Report routine: Knights Walk-Off Sounds in Heartbreaking Finish Although RHP Thyago Vieira (1 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks) was charged with the loss and allowed his first earned runs allowed of 2023, the game really turned on three Sounds pitchers serving up six(!) walks in the 7th inning to allow the Knights to forge a 7-7 tie, although the final one was dubiously charged to RHP Tyson Miller (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks). Back to Vieira, all he did was retire the first two batters on five pitches, then break the bats of the next two hitters (single, single) before an ill-timed pitch into Adam Haseley’s wheelhouse for the 3-run walk-off blast. Haseley was a one-man wrecking crew: 4-for-4 with two walks and 4 RBIs. Three Quick Strikes: 1B Patrick Dorrian (8th home run, 2 SBs) and 3B Luis Urias (2-for-4, double, walk, 3 RBIs) did the early damage and center fielder Michael Reed (2-for-2, double, 2 walks, RBI, SB) nearly won the game with an 8th inning RBI double before things fell apart. RHP Pedro Fernandez’s (5 1/3 IP, 4 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 5 Ks, 1 WP) final line wasn’t rosy, but he stabilized things over five solid innings (73 pitches) before fading with two walks to three batters (18 pitches) in the top of the 7th inning. LHP Ethan Small (1 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K) served as an opener, but unfortunately wasn’t effective as he searches for that essential yet elusive consistency. RHP JC Mejia (1/3 IP, 1 R, 0 H, 3 BB) also has to quickly shake off his poor relief appearance. Left fielder Skye Bolt was ejected after a 5th inning strikeout, the third Sound to take an early shower in this series. Next week’s outlook: Nashville stays on the road to play seven games (including a Wednesday doubleheader) against Marlins’ affiliate Jacksonville. Rehabbing LHP Eric Lauer is expected to start Tuesday’s opening game and be joined by rehabbing RH reliever Matt Bush. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 6, Pensacola 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers Win Finale against Pensacola after Dominant Start from Justin Jarvis After three affiliates had already lost heartbreakers earlier on Sunday, Biloxi won a squeaker despite being no-hit for the first five innings. You’ll find a number of video highlights at the Shuckers’ Twitter feed, but can start here with Jackson Chourio’s 3-run homer to give Biloxi a late cushion, which they ended up needing: Three Quick Strikes: RHP Justin Jarvis (7 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 6 Ks) grabbed his second win of the week, needing only 83 pitches to get through seven innings, allowing only an RBI single in the 6th inning. Down 1-0, the Shuckers finally broke through against Jonathan Bermudez with two hits and two walks to tie the game 1-1, before adding five runs against the Blue Wahoos’ bullpen the next inning. 2B Felix Valerio (2-run double) gave Biloxi its first lead, then center fielder Jackson Chourio (1-for-3, HR, walk, 3 RBIs) appeared to put the game away with a 3-run blast. Unfortunately, RHP Cam Robinson (1/3 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks) is still not right, allowing four hits to the five batters he faced. Thankfully RHPs Luis Contreras and Abner Uribe were able to hold on to preserve the victory, although the fired up Uribe was ejected after the final full count strikeout, angry about a close play at the plate on a passed ball one pitch prior. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi heads on the road to take on Braves’ affiliate Mississippi just outside of Jackson. RHP Tobias Myers (5.06 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 11.1 K/9 in 48 IP) will most likely start the opening game, while rehabbing LHP Wade Miley is expected to pitch in the series finale on Sunday, June 11. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Peoria 6, Wisconsin 5 (in 10 innings) Box Score / Game Log Via the Rattlers’ website, game details: Chiefs Beat Rattlers 6-5 in Ten Innings DH Willy Adames (2-for-4, HR, double, walk, RBI) brought special excitement to 4,038 fans in Appleton, homering and playing all ten innings. Unfortunately, Peoria managed to collect a two-out hit off of RHP Taylor Floyd (2 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 1 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks) to score the Manfred Man in the top of the 10th inning, while the Timber Rattlers went 3-up, 3-down to lose the finale despite out-hitting the Chiefs 11-to-8 in the game. Find all the game highlights here from the terrific Wisconsin media team: The Chris Mehring / Kyle Lobner post-game includes a conversation with Manager Joe Ayrault. Three Quick Strikes: 21-year old RHP Alexander Cornielle (5 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 4 Ks) turned in an encouraging performance after struggling with a 7.94 ERA in five May starts, exiting with the game tied 1-1. Unfortunately, RHP Michele Vassalotti (2/3 IP, 3 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks) wasn’t able to follow up Alexander’s excellent work, conceding a triple, double and two walks over six hitters. Adames was in the thick of the game: 1st inning fly out, lead-off 4th inning double but stranded, 6th inning solo homer to spark comeback from 4-1 deficit, intentionally walked in 7th inning with tying run on third base (yes, the Cardinals are this petty), 9th inning fly out with game tied 5-5. After Adames’ 6th inning homer, Wisconsin reeled off four consecutive singles to tie the game 4-4, the last by SS Eduardo Garcia (2-for-5, double, 2 RBIs), who also doubled in a run in the bottom of the 8th inning to tie the game 5-5. Usual shortstop Eric Brown Jr. was absent after leaving Saturday’s game early. Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin will head to the other side of Lake Michigan to take on Tigers’ affiliate West Michigan outside of Grand Rapids. Although no opening game starter is listed, 21-year RHP Edwin Jimenez (1.91 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 10.8 K/9 in 42 1/3 IP) is due for his turn in the rotation. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Lynchburg 2, Carolina 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Win Streak Ends at Seven as Mudcats Fall 2-1 Although Carolina out-hit the Hillcats 5-2 and Lynchburg also committed three errors, the Mudcats simply didn’t do enough offensively to win the finale and clinch a series sweep. The good news is that title chasers Down East also lost by a run, so the Mudcats’ retain their half-game first place lead with 16 games to play. Three Quick Strikes: Starting RHP Yujanyer Herrera (4 2/3 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 HBP, 4 Ks) played for the first time in 24 days, only having one poor inning (double, single, walk, hit-by-pitch in the 4th inning) as he gave his teammates a solid chance for victory. Carolina’s only run came via a SS Gregory Barrios RBI single with one out in the top of the 9th inning. Unfortunately, left fielder Hedbert Perez’s (0-for-4; AVG .143, OPS .468) miserable stretch continues as he grounded into a double play to end the contest. DH Jhonnys Cabrera collected his first hit (an 8th inning double) in Low-A ball, as he saw action for just the fourth time this year. RH relievers Jeison Pena and Yerlin Rodriguez each played with fire (combined 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP), but didn’t concede a run. RHP Tanner Shears only needed eight pitches to retire three batters in his inning of work. Next week’s outlook: Carolina returns home to play seven games (including a Wednesday doubleheader) against Astros’ affiliate Fayetteville. Expect RHP Will Rudy (0.74 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 24 1/3 IP) to start the first game of the series. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Good luck to our Arizona Complex League squad (eyes especially on INFs Dylan O’Rae, Johan Barrios and Jhonny Severino) and two Dominican Summer League teams (including 2023 super-signings OF Yophery Rodriguez, INF Kevin Ereu and INF Filippo Di Turi) in their season debuts on Monday, June 5. 6. Justin Jarvis went seven innings deep and Jackson Chourio blasted his eighth home run in Biloxi’s win. Willy Adames and Luis Urias shined in rehab starts, but Wisconsin and Nashville both lost in the final inning. Carolina also dropped a one-run finale. 7. It’s left to AA Biloxi to try to salvage a 1-3 day for our minor league clubs and also tie their home series against Pensacola 3-3. RHP Justin Jarvis (2.72 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 10.9 K/9 in 49.2 IP) seeks his 2nd win this week. Tyler Black, Freddy Zamora and Lamar Sparks all remain absent from the lineup.
  8. Mudcats trailed 2-0 since the 4th inning, not offering much on offense, but grabbed a run in the top of the 9th inning as three batters reached (Luke Adams walk, singles by Gregory Barrios and Jheremy Vargas). But Hedbert Perez grounds into a double play to end it. Carolina loses 2-1, despite outhitting the Hillcats 5-2. Three crushing losses in the span of about 10 minutes today. 💩
  9. Wisconsin can’t cash in the Manfred Man, but Peoria did. Rattlers lose 6-5.
  10. Vieira retired the first two hitters, then yielded two soft singles before giving up a first pitch, walk-off 3-run blast to Adam Haseley. Pain. Tears. Sounds lose 10-8.
  11. Adames flied out. Rattlers head to the 10th inning in Appleton. in Charlotte, Brian Navarreto walked and Michael Reed doubled him home to re-take the lead in the 8th inning. Nashville clings to an 8-7 lead now in the 9th inning; with Thyago Vieira on to try to close it out.
  12. Eduardo Garcia tied it up 5-5 in Appleton with an RBI double in the bottom of the 8th inning, before struggling Ernesto Martinez ground into a double play with runners on 1st and 3rd. Taylor Floyd held firm in the top half of the 9th inning. Now Jose Acosta, Robert Moore and Willy Adames get a chance to walk it off.
  13. Gulp. SIX seventh inning walks have gifted Charlotte 3 runs. Pedro Fernandez (2) stayed in two long, JC Mejia (3) simply didn’t have it today, then Tyson Miller (1) likely got jobbed on the 8th pitch of his first batter. 7-7 after 7 innings.
  14. Did anyone need another reason to hate the Cardinals? Well, their High-A club just intentionally walked Willy Adames to protect a 5-4 seventh inning lead. Adames will get his revenge against the MLB club.
  15. Evidently a chippy series in Charlotte as Skye Bolt gets ejected after a 5th inning strikeout (low ball called for 2nd strike), the 3rd Sound ejected this week. The good news is we’re leading 7-4 through 6 innings thanks to Patrick Dorrian (2-run shot), Luis Urias (2 hits, 3 RBIs) and Pedro Fernandez (5 IP, 2 R).
  16. Low-A Carolina has a 7-game winning streak and looks to finish off a road sweep of Lynchburg. 19-year old Yujanyer Herrera (3.60 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 30 IP) earned a save on Tuesday and gets the start today. DH Jhonnys Cabrera features for the first time in 3 weeks.
  17. High-A Wisconsin welcomes Willy Adames for a rehab start as they seek to finish off a 5-1 series win over Peoria at home. RHP Alexander Cornielle (6.25 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 36 IP) makes his 9th start in a tough year thus far.
  18. AAA Nashville gets us started in Charlotte today, looking to clinch a 4-2 series win. LHP Ethan Small (3.15 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 13.5 K/9 in 20 IP) starts as an opener and rehabbing Luis Urias is back at 3rd base.
  19. - LHP Bennett Sousa recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville - RHP Jake Cousins optioned to AAA Nashville from MLB Brewers - SS Willy Adames sent on rehab assignment to High-A Wisconsin
  20. Sadly, James Meeker just had his worst outing ever: 6 earned runs in 2 innings of work, including 3 homers. 8-1 Pensacola leads in the 5th inning.
  21. C Alex Jackson is now 22-for-92 this season (.239 AVG), with 8 HRs. He has 2 HRs today, as the Sounds and Knights are tied 2-2 in the 5th inning.
  22. Quinton Low reached on an error his first time up, now singles an 0-2 pitch to the opposite field for his first Low-A hit.
  23. The Shuckers copy the Mudcats’ playbook and grab a 1st inning lead as well, Zavier Warren signaling in Jackson Chourio (reached on error). 1-0 Biloxi after one inning.
  24. Good enough. Thank you Blake. Thank you Devin.
  25. 2B Jadher Areinamo goes the opposite way with 2 outs and a full count in the 2nd inning. 2-run single makes it 3-0 Mudcats.
