Amazing relief performances helped Carolina, Wisconsin and Nashville to wins, while four Biloxi home runs weren’t enough to complete its comeback. The top reliever in the minor leagues announced his promotion to AA Biloxi after the game, while all eight minor league squads will be in action today, the 4th of July. In a repeat of Saturday’s results, Carolina, Wisconsin and Nashville were all winners, with Biloxi unfortunately dropping its game. The bullpens combined for 15 scoreless innings in the three victories, with Biloxi also getting three scoreless relief innings before yielding a few runs in the 9th inning. The outcomes gave Carolina and Wisconsin highly-impressive 5-1 series wins over Fayetteville and Cedar Rapids, respectively, while Nashville won its series 4-2 over Indianapolis and Biloxi fell to 2-4 against Mississippi. The Timber Rattlers and Mudcat games were particular nail-biters, as Carolina battled back from a 3-0 deficit to extend the game to extra innings and win 4-3 on a 10th inning Zach Raabe single; and the Wisconsin game was tied at 4-4 for five innings before a Tyler Black RBI single. Scoreless two-inning relief appearances are nothing new to Cam Robinson, but this time he earned the victory instead of the save. Mr. Robinson was subsequently promoted, so he’s probably on a bus or plane to Montgomery, Alabama as we read and write. Jakson Reetz’ Southern League leading 18th and 19th homers of the season weren’t enough for Biloxi, which fell behind 5-2 and 8-3, ultimately losing 8-5. Nashville’s pitchers had to step into the batter’s box three times in this game, but the squad came out with a 7-4 win anyway. Sunday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Reetz and Robinson, along with Carlos F. Rodriguez, David Dahl and Jeferson Quero, with apologies to Brady Schanuel, Jon Singleton, Brannon Jordan and Michele Vassalotti. Transactions: RHP Cam Robinson promoted from High-A Wisconsin to AA Biloxi RHP Miguel Guerrero assigned to Low-A Carolina from High-A Wisconsin Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 4, Fayetteville 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Raabe Rips Walk-Off Single in 4-3 Victory in Extras AUDIO: Post-Game Interview with Manager Victor Estevez In spite of a rare rough start for RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (first four batters of the game reached, scoring two runs), giving up an unearned run in the 5th inning and being one-hit through first five innings, the Mudcats were never far out of this game. DH/C Jeferson Quero started the comeback with a solo homer (sixth of the year) in the 6th inning, before OF Jackson Chourio doubled and scored on a Jean Carmona sacrifice fly in the same frame to cut the deficit to 3-2. RHP Brannon Jordan had one of best relief outings, throwing three scoreless innings (6th through the 8th) while yielding only two hits, no walks and striking out three Woodpeckers. Jordan’s effort thus gave Carolina ample time to grab that third and tying run, which they did via an 8th inning RBI double from SS Eduardo Garcia to bring home Chourio (who’d singled). RHP Michele Vassalotti was then extraordinary in the scoreless 9th and 10th innings, striking out five more Fayetteville hitters while conceding only a harmless hit and walk. Vassalotti lowered his season ERA to an impeccable 2.10 and earned the win for his efforts. Despite two 9th inning singles, Quero and Chourio were unable to walk off the game in that opportunity, thus leaving the hero work to 2B Zack Raabe, who singled home Manfred’s ghost with one out in the 10th inning. The victory gave Carolina a 5-1 series win on the week. Next week’s outlook: 39-36 Carolina will play 32-43 Kannapolis on the road this week. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 5, Cedar Rapids 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, details: Timber Rattlers Wrap a 10-2 Homestand with a 5-4 Win Youtube highlights from Wisconsin’s exceptional media team: The early game see-saw was active in this game, with runs scored off struggling starters before the very capable bullpens took over. Wisconsin RHP Zach Mort escaped a bases loaded jam in the 1st inning before Tristan Peters gave the Timber Rattlers the initial 1-0 lead on an RBI single. That lead was extended to 3-1 in the 2nd inning thanks to back-to-back jacks from 1B Ashton McGee and SS Antonio Pinero . However, Cedar Rapids responded immediately with a three-run homer off Mort in the 3rd inning for a 4-3 lead, before 3B Zavier Warren knotted it up 4-4 in the same inning with an RBI double. Warren now has a 10-game hitting streak. The Second Act of the game was in direct contrast to the frenetic first three innings, with RHP Brady Schanuel masterfully retiring nine of ten batters he faced over three scoreless innings, thus dropping his ERA from 6.86 to a more palatable 5.96. Of course, Wisconsin also posed minimal threat from the 4th through the 7th innings, as the home fans waited with bated breadth for an exciting denouement. Although it wasn’t a save situation, super stopper RHP Cam Robinson nonetheless entered the game in the 8th inning for the potential two-inning win. Although Robinson yielded a leadoff 8th inning single and two-out 9th inning single, the Kernels of course never really had a chance against Mr. Robinson. With two outs in the bottom of the 8th inning, OF Arbert Cipion doubled, then was brought home by 2B Tyler Black’s RBI single into center field, giving Wisconsin an impenetrable 5-4 advantage. Robinson struck out the final hitter to earn the victory, in what is likely the last High-A action he’ll ever see, given his well-earned promotion to AA Biloxi, which he announced after the game: Next week’s outlook: 44-30 Wisconsin (8-1 in the second half) hits the road to face the 42-33 South Bend Cubs (also 8-1 in the second half) this week, with RHP Justin Jarvis starting the opener. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Mississippi 8, Biloxi 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Four Home Runs Not Enough for Shuckers in Series Finale That’s a fourth consecutive loss for Biloxi, which may feel outgunned (11 available position players, including three catchers, along with two players that were expected to be playing at lower levels). However, one cannot blame an offense which puts up five runs. RHPs Justin Bullock and Carlos Luna once again tag-teamed this game, with Bullock starting and giving up runs in four of the first five innings. Together, they were knocked around for 15 hits over the nine innings. Future major league catcher Jakson Reetz hit a two-out 1st inning homer (18th of the season) for a temporary 2-1 lead. Tied up 2-2 in the 2nd inning, two Shucker singles unfortunately went for naught. Trailing 3-2 in the 3rd inning, a Cam Devanney double also yielded no runs. Down 5-2 by the 6th inning, Mr. Reetz smacked his 19th home run of the season to bring Biloxi within two runs at 5-3. Luna was actually terrific through three innings (no runs, two singles, one walk, seven strikeouts) before running out of gas in the 9th inning. In that final frame, he conceded three runs on five hits for an 8-3 deficit. 2B Felix Valerio and C Jason Lopez each hit 9th inning homers to make the final score a more respectable 8-5. Next week’s outlook: 36-37 Biloxi is on the move to play in Montgomery (32-36) this week. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 7, Indianapolis 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Sounds Take Series in Front of Sellout Crowd Three batters into this game, Nashville already trailed 2-0, but RHP Alec Bettinger got significant support early and often. First inning doubles from SS Brice Turang and OF David Dahl (RBI), then a run-scoring wild pitch and RBI single from 1B Jon Singleton gave Bettinger a helpful 3-2 lead. Bettinger then worked around a 2nd inning double before things got really weird. Yes, Nashville manager Rick Sweet has had a deep, loaded roster all season, but he ran out of infielders in this game! Newcomer 3B Patrick Dorrian exited after a 2nd inning flyout, forcing Tyler White to vacate the designated hitter spot and the Sounds’ pitchers to bat for the remainder of the contest. Bettinger was assisted by a terrific play from Turang in the 2nd inning, then C Brian Navaretto throwing out a base stealer in the 3rd inning. The deluge hit Indianapolis in the bottom of that 3rd inning: OF Abraham Almonte homer (9th of the year), Dahl double, Singleton RBI double, 2B Weston Wilson RBI single for a 7-2 advantage. Singleton is really turning a corner, reaching base all four times in this game (two singles, two walks). Indianapolis ultimately out-hit Nashville 14-9, getting to Bettinger for another two runs in the 5th inning to make the game interesting at 7-4. However, RHP Tyler Herb had his second straight solid game in relief, pitching four scoreless innings in spite of material traffic: six hits, one walk. The Indians will feel like they should have gotten more out of this game, stranding 11 runners and failing to score any runs despite having the game-tying batter at the plate in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings. How’d those Sounds’ pitchers do at the plate, you ask? Mr. Bettinger walked(!) on five pitches in that exciting 3rd inning, then took three called strikes to end the 5th inning. Mr. Herb was also called out on strikes to end the 7th inning, stranding the bases loaded. In that frame, Nashville failed to score in spite of a single and two walks. Bettinger and Herb didn’t swing in any of their three at-bats. Oh, if you’re expecting a promotion from AA Biloxi to fill the sudden infield gap at AAA Nashville, given the injuries to Pablo Reyes and Dorrian, don’t hold your breath. Biloxi’s also a bit short on depth and INF/OF Mark Mathias is likely returning from the MLB taxi squad, given that the Big Club returns home to Milwaukee today. Next week’s outlook: The 47-30 Sounds travel to second place 46-32 Columbus this week, with RHP Caleb Boushley expected to start the opener We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. An exciting evening of baseball saw all four full season affiliate games go down to the wire. The Mudcats grabbed an extra inning 2-1 win in holding the Woodpeckers to three hits. Wisconsin also eked out a 2-1 victory in Israel Puello’s High-A debut. Comebacks from the Shuckers and Sounds each fell one run short, while ACL Blue won on a 2-out, last inning grand slam. Israel Puello limited the opposition to one run on three hits in a successful Wisconsin debut against a superb Cedar Rapids team, with Darrien Miller providing the entire offense (2-run shot). Miguel Segura, Jefferson Figueroa and Karlos Morales combined to cover 10 innings of 1-run, 3-hit, 11-K ball, giving time for the Mudcat offense to collect a tying run in the 6th inning and walk-off Hendry Mendez single in the 10th inning. The heroics of TJ Shook (4 scoreless innings) and Jakson Reetz (3-run homer) were not quite enough as Biloxi fell to Mississippi 6-5. Nashville fell behind 3-0 early, but left the potential game-tying run on base in the 9th inning to lose 4-3 against Indianapolis. ACL Blue scored five runs in the final inning to win 11-9, the last four coming on 18-year old infielder Ney Serrano’s 2-out grand slam, while ACL Gold were shut out 7-0. DSL Brewers1’s game was suspended by rain (down 6-0, to recontinue on July 15), while DSL Brewers2 got terrific pitching in a 5-1 victory. Thursday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Puello, Shook, Miller, Figueroa and Reetz, with apologies to Segura and Andruw Monasterio . Transactions: RHP Luis Contreras promoted to AAA Nashville from AA Biloxi Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 2, Fayetteville 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Mendez Mashes Walk-Off Single in 2-1 Pescados Victory While starting RHP Miguel Segura was terrific (5 IP of 1-run ball), perhaps the more encouraging performance came from RHP Jefferson Figueroa, who delivered his best result of 2022. With CF Jackson Chourio facing his first real slump of the year (0-for-4, all strikeouts), the offense had to find another way. SS Eduardo Garcia drew a full count, 2-out walk in the 6th inning, stole second base and scored on a 2B Zack Raabe opposite field single to tie the game 1-1. LHP Karlos Morales pitched a clean 10th inning as Manfred’s ghost slept on second base, then RF Hendry Mendez produced his first hit of the game in walk-off fashion and a 2-1 series lead. Performances of Note: Jeferson Quero – 2-4, SB Zack Raabe – 1-3, walk, RBI, SB Jean Carmona – 1-3, HBP Hendry Mendez – 1-5, RBI Miguel Segura – 5 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 4 BB, 2 HBP, 5 Ks Jefferson Figueroa – 4 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 5 Ks Karlos Morales (Win) – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K Friday’s outlook: Exciting 20-year old RHP Stiven Cruz gets the start in Game 4 of the series. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 2, Cedar Rapids 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, details: Rattlers Edge Kernels 2-1 While RHP Israel Puello was the big story, striking out seven Kernels while only allowing three hits and one walk, C Darrien Miller produced his best game in months Miller threw out an attempted base stealer in the 1st inning, then homered to score Tristan Peters (who’d singled) to give the Timber Rattlers a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning. Ethan Murray also made an exceptional defensive play at second base to end Puello’s 1st inning of High-A ball. And then first baseman Ashton McGee put in his own claim for defensive play of the day as he tested the strength of the wall: Puello’s 3rd inning escape (two strikeouts in a 2nd and 3rd, 1-out situation) was a game-changer. RHP Christian Tripp continued the amazing effort with two scoreless innings, also escaping a 2-on, 1-out situation via ground ball double play. RHP James Meeker’s shutout inning dropped his ERA to below 4.00, while RHP Cam Robinson was dominant again: 3-up, 3-down 9th inning for his 19th save and a 2-1 series lead. Performances of Note: Darrien Miller – 2-2, HR, walk, 2 RBIs Arbert Cipion – 1-3, double Tristan Peters – 1-3 Zavier Warren – 1-3 Israel Puello (Win) – 5 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 7 K Christian Tripp – 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K James Meeker – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K Cam Robinson (Save) – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks Friday’s outlook: The home fans get another chance to see exceptional LHP Antoine Kelly (3.27 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 93 Ks in 71 2/3 innings). Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Mississippi 6, Biloxi 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Mississippi Strikes Back To Take Down Biloxi 6-5 Starting LHP Nick Bennett was hit hard (home run, double, six singles), but at least he didn’t issue any walks, hit any batters or throw any wild pitches. Get ‘em next time, Nick! 25-year old SS Andruw Monasterio is sending a very loud message to the organization that he belongs back in AAA: he’s now 8-for-13 with two home runs and a double in three Biloxi games. His 1st inning homer tied the game 1-1. 2B Felix Valerio certainly ripped this ball to bring the score back to 4-2 in the 3rd inning: A 6-2 deficit in the 5th inning held up until the 8th inning, when Monasterio led off with a single, Joey Wiemer followed up with an infield hit and Future MLB All-Star C Jakson Reetz followed with his 17th home run of the year to narrow the gap to 6-5. Unfortunately, that was Biloxi’s last hit of the game, so the fabulous efforts of RHP TJ Shook and Reetz went for naught on this night. But don’t worry, the Shuckers still lead their series 2-1. Performances of Note: Andruw Monasterio – 2-4, HR, RBI Jakson Reetz – 1-4, HR, 3 RBIs Joey Wiemer – 1-2, 2 walks, SB Thomas Dillard – 1-4, SB Felix Valerio – 1-4, double, RBI Nick Bennett (Loss) – 5 IP, 6 R, 8 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks TJ Shook – 4 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 5 Ks Friday’s outlook: LHP Brandon Knarr will try for a third straight terrific start: 11 innings, 2 runs, 4 hits, 10 Ks over last two outings. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Indianapolis 4, Nashville 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Shaky First Inning Costs Sounds Just allow RHP Dylan File to undo the first five batters of the game and this would be a Nashville win and a 2-1 series lead. But alas, those three runs on two hits, a walk and hit-by-pitch really determined the outcome of this game. Singles in the 3rd inning by Weston Wilson, Pablo Reyes, Brice Turang (RBI) and David Dahl (RBI) nearly knotted up the contest 3-3, but Turang was thrown out on the bases to end the inning. Two walks (Jon Singleton, Mario Feliciano ) to start the 7th inning and an 8th inning leadoff single (Reyes) unfortunately all yielded nothing. Right fielder Dahl singled and scored on an error in the 9th inning to bring the Sounds back within a run at 4-3, but Feliciano was stranded on first base to end the game. The loss puts Nashville down 2-1 in this week’s series. Performances of Note: Pablo Reyes – 2-4 David Dahl – 2-4, RBI Garrett Whitley – 1-3, SB Brice Turang – 1-4, RBI Weston Wilson – 1-4, SB Dylan File (Loss) – 5 1/3 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 4 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks Connor Sadzeck – 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks Friday’s outlook: Super prospect LHP Ethan Small got his groove back in his last start (7 IP, 1 run, 3 hits, 10 Ks) and the Sounds need another solid effort from him to tie up the series 2-2 tonight. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Good luck on Friday, teams! Thursday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Puello, Shook, Miller, Figueroa and Reetz, with apologies to Segura and Andruw Monasterio . Biloxi walked off Pensacola 9-8 with a 3-run double to end it. Nashville gave up a late lead, but prevailed in 11 innings. Wisconsin grabbed the lead in the 8th to win 6-5. Carolina’s offense woke up too late to avoid a series sweep. Sunday was a day for the hitters, with a combined 57 runs scored on 79 hits across the four full season affiliate games. Thankfully, the clutch hitting came from the Brewers’ squads, as Wisconsin, Biloxi and Nashville picked up three one-run victories, despite being outhit 35 to 28 in their three contests. Jason Lopez came through with the 9th inning, 2-out, bases clearing double to enable Biloxi snatch a victory from Pensacola, giving Biloxi a satisfying 4-2 series win. In Nashville, it was Brice Turang’s turn to play hero, with a game-winning, 2-out RBI single in the 11th inning. Kudos to relievers Connor Sadzeck and Lucas Erceg for impeccable work in extras. Wisconsin wasn’t fazed by a late deficit, tying the game in the 7th inning, then getting 2-out hits in the bottom of the 8th inning from Tristan Peters and Zavier Warren to grab a lead which is always safe in closer Cam Robinson’s hands. The Mudcats offense was missing for the first of the game, but homers from Jheremy Vargas, Jackson Chourio and Hedbert Perez made the final scoreline look more respectable. Sunday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Peters, Lopez, Turang, Vargas and Arbert Cipion. Transactions: INF/OF Pablo Reyes recalled to MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville (replacing OF Hunter Renfroe, who was placed on 10-day injured list, retroactive to 6/23, with a left calf strain) Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Down East 7, Carolina 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Carolina Swept in Kinston Despite Hitting Three Homers Carolina had started the week trying to hold onto a first half division title, but instead lost six straight games at Down East, mainly weighed down by relatively absent offense. After being 1-hit in Saturday’s loss, the Mudcats were down 4-0 in this game before collecting their first hit in the 5th inning. Thankfully, that hit was a Jheremy Vargas 2-run homer. Semi-slumping super prospect Jackson Chourio then collected the team’s second hit via a solo shot in the 6th inning, momentarily cutting the deficit to 5-3. It was not until the 9th inning that the Mudcats collected their third and fourth hits, with a Hedbert Perez 2-run, 2-out homer making the final scoreline 7-5. 23-year old RHP Brannon Jordan has yet to adjust to work as a reliever (3.64 ERA with 38 Ks in 29 2/3 innings of long work; 4.73 ERA with 13 Ks in 13 1/3 innings of short work). At least RHP Michele Vassalotti looks back to full form, striking out both batters he faced. Performances of Note: Jheremy Vargas – 1-2, HR, walk, 2 RBIs, SB Hedbert Perez – 1-4, HR, 2 RBIs Jackson Chourio – 1-4, HR, RBI Jeferson Quero – 1-4, double Edwin Jimenez (Loss) – 3 2/3 IP, 4 R, 6 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks Michele Vassalotti – 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Next week’s outlook: Carolina (34-35) will be home hosting Fayetteville (32-36) this week. Expect dominant RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez to start the opener. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 6, Quad Cities 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Rattlers Make It Five Wins in a Row Youtube highlights from Wisconsin’s exceptional media team: This was an entertaining back-and-forth contest in Appleton, as starting LHP Russell Smith returned from a 3-week absence and MLB rehabber Kolten Wong gave the offense a boost with a first inning home run. Wong is expected back with the Brewers on Tuesday this week. Dependable Tristan Peters homered to re-claim the lead in the 4th inning at 3-2, but Quad Cities took it back 4-3 with two runs in the 5th inning, then a solo shot in the 7th inning for a 5-4 advantage. Arbert Cipion then singled, stole second base and third base, then scored on a Tyler Black sacrifice fly to knot the game back up 5-5 in the bottom of the 7th inning. With 2 outs in the 8th inning, Peters doubled, then scored on a Zavier Warren single to grab the late lead 6-5. I don’t think it’s much of a limb to claim that Cam Robinson’s 17th save leads the entire minor league system. He pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to send the crowd home happy. The win was Wisconsin’s 5th in a row, as they defeated Quad Cities 5-1 in the series. Performances of Note: Arbert Cipion – 3-3, RBI, 3 SBs Tristan Peters – 2-4, HR, double, RBI Kolten Wong – 1-2, HR, walk, RBI Ethan Murray – 1-4, triple Zavier Warren – 1-4, RBI Russell Smith – 3 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Christian Tripp – 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K Joey Matulovich (Win) – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 K Cam Robinson (Save) – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin (39-29) will be home against a terrific Cedar Rapids (44-25) squad this week. Expect RHP Zach Mort to make his third start of the year in the opening game. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 9, Pensacola 8 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Lopez' Walk-Off Double Caps Largest Comeback In Shuckers' History This was not RHP Noah Zavolas’ best game, though I’m sure he’ll re-set and return stronger than ever next week. Blue Wahoo Griffin got him with a 1st inning solo shot, then a 4th inning 3-run blast, as the Shuckers trailed early 7-2. The game was 8-3 in the 6th inning, as RHP JT Hintzen entered with 1-on and 1-out. Hintzen coolly dispatched the dangerous Conine and another batter, then pitched a clean 7th inning to at least give the Shuckers a long-shot chance. From that point, it was clutch city for Biloxi, as Jakson Reetz and Yeison Coca knocked in three runs with two outs in the 7th inning to make the game interesting at 8-6. Then again with 2 outs, this time still down 8-6 in the 9th inning, Jason Lopez collected his first hit of the game via a game-winning, bases clearing double to left field. Although Pensacola won the first half division title, the Shuckers won this week’s series 4-2. And since no Biloxi game is complete without a Joey Wiemer highlight, here he is gunning down a Blue Wahoo at third base for his 10th assist of the year! Performances of Note: Thomas Dillard – 3-4, HBP, RBI Jakson Reetz – 2-3, double, 2 walks, 2 RBIs Jason Lopez – 1-3, double, 2 walks, 3 RBIs Cam Devanney – 1-3, double, walk, RBI Terence Doston – 1-3, walk, SB Joey Wiemer – 1-4, HBP Noah Zavolas – 4 IP, 7 R, 8 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 2 Ks JT Hintzen – 1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 WP, 2 Ks Robbie Hitt – 1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Nash Walters (Win) – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K Next week’s outlook: Biloxi (34-33) gets to face the Mississippi Braves (29-40) at home this week. Expect RHPs Justin Bullock and Carlos Luna to tag-team the opening game. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 9, Gwinnett 8 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Brice Turang Delivers Walk-off for Nashville With such a talented and overflowing roster, Nashville decided to let this game go to extra innings, thus giving their excellent bullpen a bit more work and opportunity to shine. Starting RHP Josh Lindblom wasn’t able to put together a third consecutive strong start, as the team fell behind 5-2 in his four innings of work. Jon Singleton had contributed one of those Sounds’ runs with this loud shot: Nonetheless, the Sounds’ offense got him off the hook quickly with Mario Feliciano hitting a 2-run homer in the 4th inning (second of the year), then Mr. Contributor David Dahl collecting an RBI single to tie it 5-5 in the 5th inning. Recently-optioned Mark Mathias then gave the game a real jolt with a 2-out, 3-run 7th inning homer to put the squad up 8-5, which many families probably thought was enough to ice the win. Unfortunately, RHP Zack Brown continued his relatively difficult month of June by giving up a game-tying 2-run homer to Alex Dickerson, so to extra innings the Stripers and Sounds went. RHP Connor Sadzeck was lights out, leaving Manfred’s ghost at second base in the 10th inning, but Gwinnett’s Chadwick Tromp was equal to the task as all three Sounds struck out in the bottom half of the inning. In the 11th inning, RHP Lucas Erceg kept the ghost from scoring, getting a strike out and fly out to leave the runner at third base. Then in the bottom of the inning, super prospect Brice Turang collected his third hit of the night, this one a game-winning, 2-out RBI single to left field. Newcomers RHP Marcus Walden and 3B Patrick Dorrian both got plenty of work in their debuts, with Walden covering 3 innings in the bullpen and Dorrian earning a walk in one of his five plate appearances. Performances of Note: Brice Turang – 3-5, walk, RBI, SB Pedro Severino – 2-5, double, RBI David Dahl – 2-5, RBI, SB Mark Mathias – 1-5, HR, 3 RBIs Mario Feliciano – 1-5, HR, 2 RBIs Jon Singleton – 1-4, HR, walk, RBI Josh Lindblom – 4 IP, 5 R, 8 H, 2 BB, 5 Ks Andy Otero – 1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 K Marcus Walden – 3 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks Connor Sadzeck – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Lucas Erceg (Win) – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K Next week’s outlook: Nashville (43-28) will also be home this week, facing the Indianapolis Indians (35-35). It looks like Coach Guerrero ran out of position players in Biloxi, with Sal Frelick injured and Gabe Holt not playing for several days. Not sure how they’ll get the team extra support, but I hope they do.

Carolina lost a second straight heartbreaker. Wisconsin received help from three MLB rehabbers to win a second straight game. Biloxi couldn’t keep up with Pensacola’s firepower. Nashville kept it close, but managed just one win in their loss. The Brewers’ full season affiliates managed just one win in four games in spite of terrific starting pitching all around (Alexander Cornielle – 2 runs, 11 Ks; Brandon Woodruff – 1 run, 7 Ks; Victor Castaneda – 0 runs, 4 Ks; Caleb Boushley – 1 run; 3 Ks). Offensively, the only clutch performers were catchers: Wisconsin’s Darrien Miller (two-run homer) and Biloxi’s Jakson Reetz (3-for-4, 2 RBIs). The losses for Carolina and Biloxi unfortunately ended their hopes of capturing first half division titles. In the short season leagues, the young men in Arizona and the Dominican Republic split their games, with two wins and two losses. At the mid-point in the week, Carolina trails Down East 3-0, Wisconsin leads Quad Cities 2-1, Biloxi leads Pensacola 2-1 and Nashville is behind Gwinnett 2-1. Thursday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Cornielle, Boushley, Castaneda, Miller and Reetz. Transactions: INF Patrick Dorrian acquired from Baltimore in exchange for cash OF Larry Ernesto reinstated from 7-day injured list and transferred to ACL Brewers Blue (but Ernesto unfortunately exited the game immediately after his first inning at-bat) RHP Brandon Woodruff will make rehab start at High-A Wisconsin Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Down East 3, Carolina 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Cornielle Totals 11 Ks in 3-2 First Half Finale Loss The surprising Mudcats needed a win to have any hope of carrying the first half division title, but instead lost a second consecutive one-run game at Down East. But don’t blame starting RHP Alexander Cornielle, who pitched an exceptional game, giving up one run on three hits, while striking out eleven Wood Ducks and walking just one. Carolina grabbed the initial 1-0 lead on two singles and two walks in the third inning, but Down East starter 24-year old Ryan Garcia escaped further damage via back-to-back strikeouts. A Wood Duck homer in the fifth inning, then RBI double in the sixth inning, put the Mudcats in a 2-1 deficit. The double came off of RHP Michele Vassalotti, who’d relieved Cornielle with two outs and a man on second base. Leadoff eighth inning singles by Eduardo Garcia and Jackson Chourio had Carolina in great position to do damage, though Manager Victor Estevez may be asking himself whether the subsequent sacrifice bunt was worth it. Of course, the bunt served its intended purpose, moving the runners over so that the Mudcats tied the game 2-2 on a ground out, but it also removed one chance at a big inning. Vassalotti and LHP Karlos Morales ably covered the 7th and 8th innings, but Morales ended up taking the tough loss by conceding a one-out walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Mudcats third consecutive loss at Down East. Credit both defenses for registering zero errors or passed balls, but especially the Wood Ducks for throwing out both Mudcat attempted base stealers. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 3, Quad Cities 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Woodruff Sharp in Rehab Start as Rattlers Win Youtube highlights from Wisconsin’s exceptional media team: Wisconsin was the sole full season winner on this night, getting significant help from three Major League rehabbers, giving the Timber Rattlers a 2-1 series lead at home against Quad Cities. Rehabber #1 Brandon Woodruff cruised through the first four innings, retiring the first 12 batters he faced. Perhaps he tired a bit in the fifth inning, giving up a home run, walk and single, but he’ll definitely be pleased with the five-inning, one run, seven strikeout effort. Rehabber #2 Mike Brosseau opened the scoring in the fourth inning by singling and scoring on a sacrifice fly. Then Darrien Miller, in his second game back from an extended layoff, smacked his fourth homer of the season to bring home Tristan Peters (who’d singled) and give Wisconsin a 3-0 lead. Rehabber #3 Trevor Gott pitched a clean sixth inning and RHP Christian Tripp a clean seventh inning before Tripp ran into trouble (double, walk) to start the eighth inning. RHP James Meeker picked him up, getting a sacrifice bunt out (thank you opposing manager), strikeout and line out to right field to maintain the 3-1 Wisconsin advantage. Meeker then covered the ninth inning as well for the two-inning save, his fourth save of the year. There were no stolen base attempts and the teams combined to go 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Performances of Note: Mike Brosseau – 2-4, double Darrien Miller – 1-3, HR, 2 RBIs Zavier Warren – 1-3, double Joe Gray Jr. – 1-3, RBI, SF Wes Clarke – 1-3, walk Brandon Woodruff (Win) – 5 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 Ks Trevor Gott – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K Christian Tripp – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K James Meeker (Save) – 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Postgame Podcast: "The Timber Rattlers closed out the first half of the season with a 3-1 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits. Brandon Woodruff, Trevor Gott, and Mike Brosseau all contributed on rehab assignments from the Milwaukee Brewers. Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner discuss the game and make way for Woodruff meeting the local media after his five inning start. Then, Darrien Miller, James Meeker, & Joe Ayrault join the fun." Friday’s outlook: RHP Justin Jarvis looks to continue his excellent run of form (2.38 ERA in last 45 1/3 innings with 57 strikeouts) and give Wisconsin a 3-1 series lead over Quad Cities. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Pensacola 10, Biloxi 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Wahoos Top Shuckers 10-6 Biloxi needed to sweep Pensacola 6-0 this week to steal the first half division title, but couldn’t grab a third straight win against the tough opponent. Again, don’t blame the starting pitcher though, as RHP Victor Castaneda was his usual exceptional self in his first game back from injury. Unfortunately, he could only go three scoreless, one-hit, four-K, zero-walk innings though, as he works himself back to full strength. The Shuckers bats were dormant most of the game, in particular over the first four innings as they registered zero hits over that span in the 0-0 game. This enabled Pensacola to grab a fifth inning 2-0 lead via two hits and a walk off reliever RHP Justin Bullock. The Blue Wahoo advantage then grew to 5-0 through three hits, a hit batsman and a passed ball in the sixth inning. DH/C Jakson Reetz did his best to give Biloxi chances to stay in the game, delivering an inning-opening double in the fifth inning, then a two-out, two-run single to cut the deficit to 5-2 in the sixth inning. The last big Biloxi chance came down 5-2, with two-on, one-out in the bottom of the eighth inning, but unfortunately Pensacola was able to get the inning ending ground ball double play. RHP J.T. Hintzen will want to forget his five-run, six-hit ninth inning, which ballooned the deficit to 10-2. On the bright side, Cam Devanney doubled in his final at-bat to extend his hitting streak to a Biloxi-record 16 games. This was part of a four-run, five-hit final inning to make the final score look more respectable. Jakson Reetz – 3-4, double, 2 RBIs Noah Campbell – 2-5, double, RBI Cam Devanney – 1-4, double Yeison Coca – 1-4, RBI Terence Doston – 1-4, RBI Victor Castaneda – 3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks Justin Bullock (Loss) – 3 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 5 H, 1 BB, 1 K Taylor Floyd – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Friday’s outlook: RHP TJ Shook (3.50 ERA in 61 2/3 innings of High-A/AA ball) looks for his third victory with Biloxi, which would give the team a 3-1 series lead over Pensacola. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Gwinnett 4, Nashville 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Gwinnett's Late Homer Clips Sounds For the third time, I say “Don’t blame the starting pitcher.” In this one, RHP Caleb Boushley was fabulous once again, conceding just one run over five innings of work. Corey Ray is showing some nice resiliency in spite of recently being outrighted off of the Brewers’ 40-man roster, throwing out a runner at third base in the top half of the second inning, then homering (fourth of the year) to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom half. The tight 1-1 game was opened up in the seventh inning, as RHP Alec Bettinger yielded a single and two-run homer for a 3-1 deficit. Nashville’s offense rarely threatened against Gwinnett’s terrific pitching, going 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. Performances of Note: Corey Ray – 1-4, HR, RBI Weston Wilson – 1-3 Caleb Boushley – 5 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks Jandel Gustave – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K Alec Bettinger (Loss) – 3 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 Ks Friday’s outlook: RHP Dylan File (4.50 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 7.2 K/9 in 60 innings) looks for a victory in his 14th game of the year (11th start) to even up Nashville’s series at home against Gwinnett 2-2. ARIZONA COMPLEX LEAGUE Final: ACL Angels 5, ACL Brewers Blue 0 Box Score / Game Log The Blue team fell to 3-10 on the season, producing more errors (4) than hits (3) in squandering a solid start from 19-year old RHP Jared Albir (3.14 ERA in 14 1/3 innings this year). Three of the four Crew pitchers were effective here. 24-year old RHP Leoni De La Cruz (1.50 ERA in 6 innings) would like a promotion to Carolina, please. He entered a two-on, one-out situation in the sixth inning, ending the threat by inducing a double play ground out. He then worked around an error for a clean seventh inning. 20-year old RHP Anthony Perez made a successful stateside debut after his recent promotion from the DSL. Only 87 degrees and overcast, must have been a welcome change. All three Brewer hits were singles, 0-for-3 with RISP. 21-year-old switch-hitting OF Larry Ernesto made his 2022 debut, getting called out on strikes in the bottom of the 1st, and then was replaced defensively in left field immediately. Planned one-inning re-introduction? Remarkably, this is already Ernesto's fifth year in the system (2020 counts). Since signing for $1.7 million in June of 2017, Ernesto has posted a .605 OPS in 119 games, with a nearly 38% strikeout rate in 426 at-bats. Performances of Note: Quinton Low – 1-3, HBP Jared Albir (Loss) – 5 1/3 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 5 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 2 Ks Leoni De La Cruz – 1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Final: ACL Brewers Gold 14, ACL Rangers 3 Box Score / Game Log Much better day for the Golden Boys who improved their record to 8-5 with a nice 14-run, 13-hit, 8-walk, 2-HBP barrage in this road contest, 101 degrees in Surprise, 87 in Maryvale. 18-year old INF Jadher Areinamo (.804 season OPS) produced four of the team’s ten RBIs in the game, as he makes his case for an opportunity in Low-A Carolina in the near future. 19-year old INF Jose Caballero (.444/.529/.519 after 27 at-bats, only three Ks) singled and scored on a wild pitch to grab a first inning 1-0 lead, before Areinamo restored the lead at 3-2 with a two-out, two-RBI single in the second inning. 18-year old SS Gregory Barrios, signed for $1 million in January 2021 (not to be confused with shortstop Johan Barrios, signed for $1.385 million in January 2022), reached base all five trips, two singles and three walks. OK, yes, we will confuse them often - both from Venezuela, but apparently not related. Gregory is a switch-hitter. With three singles, left-handed swinging OF Luis Castillo pushed his OPS to 1.193 after 45 at-bats. You'll see in the box score the lopsided result allowed for a bit of bench-clearing with some substitutions late. However, one of the sub-outs was corner infielder Jesus Parra, playing first base in this game, who exited after being hit by a pitch in the 6th. Only one earned run allowed among the four Gold pitchers, do not mean to slight them here, be sure to check the box and log as you see fit. 24-year-old indy ball signing Ryan Middendorf is doing exactly what players in that profile need to – dominate from the start. Thursday marked his second outing since signing out of the Frontier League. Others performed well as you might imagine given the score. Performances of Note: Luis Castillo – 3-5 Jadher Areinamo – 2-5, double, 4 RBIs Gregory Barrios – 2-2, 3 walks, RBI Eduarh Colina – 2-4, walk, RBI Jose Caballero – 1-3, walk, SF, 2 RBIs Diego Larez – 1-3, double, walk, HBP Jesus Parra – 1-3, double, HBP Trevor Tietz (Win) – 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2Ks Final: DSL Tigers #1 Squad 6, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 1, seven innings as scheduled Box Score / Game Log The DSL Brewers1 squad fell to 3-11 on the season, colleting one run on four hits, though managed to walk seven times while leaving nine men on base. Tigers put a 3-1 game out-of-reach with a three-spot in their final at-bat in the 6th. All eleven combined hits in this game were singles, Brewers mustering four knocks only, though they reached eight times by walk or HBP. Second-year catcher Edgardo Ordonez, a left-handed bat (love those LH bats behind the plate) posted an .867 OPS last summer in 84 at-bats, and the 18-year-old Venezuelan native reached base twice here to move his early 2022 OPS to .900. One to watch. We'll give 18-year-old 6'3" Dominican rookie RHP Leonardo Rivera a shoutout for stranding two inherited runners by fanning the only man he faced. Rivera had struggled in his three prior appearances. The Brewers nearly tied the game in the fourth inning on INF Jose Pena’s RBI single, but OF Duncan Garcia was gunned down at home and then exited the game early. Instead, the 2-1 deficit was as close as they could get. OF Luis Lara (.928) and C Edgardo Ordonez (.900 OPS) each collected one hit, while 1B Arnys Rodriguez (.842 OPS) managed a walk. Performances of Note: Jose Pena – 1-2, walk, RBI Edgardo Ordonez – 1-3, walk Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 6, DSL Giants Black 3, seven innings as scheduled Box Score / Game Log Their victory lifted the Brewers2 club back to an even record of 7-7. Giants committed five errors, though the Crew earned all but one of their runs regardless. Minus a passed ball, Crew #2 played clean defense. C Eric Martinez doubled, the lone extra-base hit among the seven Crew knocks. It was a busy day for Martinez, he had an RBI single in the 3rd and would later in that frame steal home as part of a double steal. The Brewers scored once in the 1st, twice in the 2nd, thrice in the 3rd. INF Demetrio Nadal gave the team a first inning 1-0 lead by singling and scoring on an error, with INF Erick Reyes repeating the single-and-score-on-error procedure in the second inning before Martinez doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly for a 3-0 advantage. Brewers2 opened the game up at 6-1 with the three-run third inning on RBI singles by Martinez and INF Edgardo Reyes, plus Martinez’ aforementioned steal of home. Things nearly came apart in the sixth inning for RHP Darling Solano, who gave up a double and two walks to start the frame, but he struck out three of the next four batters to escape with a 6-3 lead and earn the win. Although Brewers2 went just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position (stranding seven runners in the game), Giants Black were thankfully more futile in this regard (0-for-9, stranding 11 runners in the game). OF Irving Iguales (.943 season OPS) collected one hit, though INF Juan Baez (.862 season OPS) went 0-for-4 (but with zero strikeouts). Recently re-signed INF Jean Carmona homered and reached base six times in Carolina’s win, with the Fireflies giving minimal problems for RHP Stiven Cruz. Overall, the game was an offensive show, as Carolina netted 17 hits and also drew nine walks. Wisconsin failed to make the most of LHP Antoine Kelly’s 2nd start of the week (and final High-A start before an upcoming promotion?), stranding 12 runners in losing a 5th straight game at Great Lakes, this one 3-2. Biloxi grabbed leads in the second, eighth and tenth innings, but couldn’t hold on in losing 7-6 in Chattanooga, snapping the Shuckers’ four-game winning streak. This was in spite of the efforts of Robbie Hitt (two scoreless innings, four Ks) and Joey Wiemer (two hits, two stolen bases, threw out a runner for the final out of the ninth inning). David Dahl led Nashville back to tie their game in Memphis in the fifth inning and take a seventh inning lead, but the Redbirds were too much for the Sounds’ staff on Sunday, as the clubs tied their series 3-3. Sunday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Carmona, Cruz, Dahl, Wiemer and Jackson Chourio. Transactions: N/A Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 12, Columbia 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Mudcats Take Finale 12-6 With Fourth Straight Victory The “Jean Carmona” game was never in doubt, with the Mudcats jumping out to a 5-0 second inning lead and RHP Stiven Cruz being his usual solid self on the mound. Carmona’s not showing any rust, despite missing the first two-and-a-half months of the season whilst awaiting his next opportunity in affiliated baseball. The switch hitter kicked off the scoring by pulling a two-run blast to right center field (driving in Hedbert Perez, who’d singled), which was followed by an Eduardo Garcia RBI fielder’s choice and Jeferson Quero RBI infield single and error to establish Carolina’s early 5-0 lead. Mr. Carmona then walked and scored in each of the third and fifth innings, as the Mudcats advantage eventually grew to 8-0. His busy night not yet complete, Carmona reached base again in the 7th (walk) and 9th innings (single), though didn’t score on these occasions. Yes, he reached base on all six plate appearances, as he makes his case for an immediate promotion to High-A Wisconsin. Cruz calmly handled the first four innings, never allowing more than one batter to reach base. However, perhaps he eased up with that big lead in the fifth inning, giving up two runs on three hits before cancelling the final two hitters via strikeout and fly out. When you’re not certain whether the 17 hits or nine walks is more impressive, your squad has had an excellent game at the plate. Leaving 13 men on base usually sounds like a recipe for disaster, but in this case it was just a matter of so much traffic (7-for-20 with runners in scoring position). Of course, Jackson Chourio has spoiled us so much that it’s barely notable when he goes 2-for-5 with a triple and double to raise his season OPS to 1.030. C’mon Jackson, do more(!) – I kid, I kid. In the ‘pen, Junior Montero was his usual solid self (2.55 ERA on the season), Jakob Brustoski’s unfortunately continuing to struggle (three runs, four walks, two wild pitches – 16.20 ERA on the season), Michele Vassalotti ended Mr. Brustoski’s nightmare 7th inning by inducing a quick fly out (though yielded one run on two hits the following inning) and Pablo Garabitos resumed his quality form (3.31 ERA). Hopefully, SS Eduardo Garcia was simply pulled in the seventh inning to give Luis Silva some work, rather than any injury. He had walked and scored on a triple earlier in the top half of the inning. Performances of Note: Jean Carmona – 3-3, HR, 3 walks, 2 RBIs Zack Raabe – 3-4, double, walk Hedbert Perez – 3-6, RBI Jackson Chourio – 2-5, triple, double, walk, 2 RBIs Jeferson Quero – 2-6, double, RBI Jheremy Vargas – 2-3, walk, HBP, 2 RBIs Eduardo Garcia – 1-4, walk, 2 RBIs Jesus Chirinos – 1-4, 2 walks Stiven Cruz (Win) – 5 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks Junior Montero – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K Pablo Garabitos – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 K Next week’s outlook: The 34-29 Mudcats remain on the road to take on Rangers’ Low-A affiliate Down East (30-33). Expect RHP Edwin Jimenez to start Tuesday’s opener, likely tag-teaming with RHP Israel Puello. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Great Lakes 3, Wisconsin 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Wisconsin Ends Road Trip with Close Loss to Loons The Rattlers frustrating week came to an unmerciful end with a 5th consecutive loss, this time in a game where the stats favored them in most ways, except for the final score and their 12 strikeouts. Great Lakes took yet another victory from Wisconsin, despite having fewer hits (7 vs. 5), more errors (2 vs. 0), fewer stolen bases (3 vs. 1), issuing more walks (5 vs. 4) and throwing far more pitches (152 vs. 122). The Loons grabbed a first inning lead getting a hit to the outfield against Rattlers’ starting LHP Antoine Kelly, helped by two walks and a hit batsmen. A Wes Clarke leadoff double (three hits in the game) in the second inning yielded nothing, but Arbert Cipion tripled and scored to tie things up at 1-1 in the third inning. Despite stranding nine runners through the first five innings of play, Wisconsin grabbed a 2-1 fifth inning lead as Tristan Peters walked (one of his four walks in the game) and scored on a Loon error. Unfortunately, old friend Kekai Rios (why did we leave him unprotected in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 draft?) homered in the bottom half of the fifth inning to re-knot the game at 2-2. The sixth inning followed the same theme, with the Rattlers stranding another two runners (11 for the game at that point), but Great Lakes scoring on a two-out double by nemesis Jonny DeLuca on a full count pitch. And that was all for Mr. Kelly this night, as he exited for RHP Robbie Baker down 3-2. Unfortunately, the excellent efforts of Baker and RHP Christian Tripp (combined 2 1/3 scoreless innings) were matched by the Great Lakes’ bullpen, as Wisconsin did not register a hit in the final three innings of play. Performances of Note: Wes Clarke – 3-5, double Arbert Cipion – 2-4, triple, SB Ethan Murray – 1-4, SF, RBI, SB Jose Acosta – 1-4, SB Tristan Peters – 0-1, 4 walks Antoine Kelly (Loss) – 5 2/3 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 6 Ks Robbie Baker – 1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K Christian Tripp – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 K Next week’s outlook: The 34-28 Timber Rattlers return home to face Royals’ High-A affiliate Quad Cities (25-38). Expect RHP Ryne Moore (4.41 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 9.1 K/9 in 63 1/3 innings split between Low-A and High-A) to get the series’ first start. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Chattanooga 7, Biloxi 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Chattanooga Snaps Shuckers Four-Game Winning Streak in Extras Biloxi’s Sunday loss was a near cut-and-paste of Wisconsin’s loss above, but the Shuckers defeat was slightly less maddening since they were coming off four consecutive wins. Although Biloxi had more hits (10 vs. 9), earned more walks (6 vs. 2), stole more bases (4 vs. 2), they gave up leads in the 9th and 10th innings to suffer a tough 7-6 defeat in Chattanooga. The team stranded 12 runners for the game versus six for Chattanooga, though the Shuckers did not help themselves by committing three errors. After stranding two runners in the first inning, the Shuckers grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning on MLB rehabber Pedro Severino’s two-run shot to left field, scoring Joey Wiemer (who’d singled). Meanwhile, LHP Brandon Knarr was terrific through his first four innings, never allowing more than one batter to reach base. Meanwhile, Biloxi would rue its failure to score in the fourth inning (despite two leadoff singles) and fifth inning (despite putting two men on with one out). In the fifth inning, a one-out triple, then infield error cut the Shuckers’ lead to 2-1, putting the pressure on Biloxi for the first time. Unfortunately, after inducing a groundout, Knarr conceded a homer to dangerous Isiah Gilliam (11th of the year) to fall behind 3-2. Then a second infield error extended the inning, allowing the Lookouts to knock in their fourth run of the frame, grabbing a 4-2 lead. RHP Robbie Hitt served as an excellent bridge from starter-to-closer(s), facing the minimum six batters while striking out four hitters over two innings of work. Hitt’s effort enabled Biloxi to eventually come through in the 8th inning, as the first four Biloxi hitters reached base, with Yeison Coca hitting the key two-RBI single to tie the game at 4-4, with Noah Campbell later scoring on a catcher throw down to second base. 5-4 Shuckers. RHP Nash Walters issued a lead-off walk in the 8th inning, but induced two groundouts (one a double play) to escape without damage. After stranding yet another two runners in the top of the 9th inning, RHP Zach Vennaro entered to try to nail down the save. Unfortunately, things went awry with a one-out single, wild pitch and another single, giving Chattanooga a 5-5 tie with a runner on 3rd base and still only one out. The cannon-armed Joey Wiemer then gave Biloxi new life by catching the second out in right field and gunning down the tagging runner on a direct throw to home plate. Wiemer’s really looking like the complete package, with an OPS of .885, 20 stolen bases (vs. one caught stealing) and nine outfield assists. With Jonathan Davis promoted to the majors and Abraham Almonte apparently sidelined by injury, is the time right to promote Mr. Wiemer to AAA? The Shuckers nearly went empty-handed in the top of the tenth inning, but Cam Devanney came through with a two-out RBI single to restore their one-run advantage at 6-5, while also extending his hitting streak to 13 games in spite of only entering the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. Unfortunately, RHP Kent Hasler has not yet settled into life at AA Biloxi, hitting the first batter he faced, throwing a wild pitch and walking a batter to put him in a near-impossible bases loaded, nobody out situation. The game then ended in walk-off fashion, with Gilliam again doing the damage, this time via a two-run single on a 1-2 pitch. Performances of Note: Pedro Severino – 2-3, HR, 2 walks, 2 RBIs Joey Wiemer – 2-5, walk, 2 SBs Cam Devanney – 1-2, RBI Thomas Dillard – 1-3, walk, HBP Felix Valerio – 1-4, walk, SB Noah Campbell – 1-4, walk Yeison Coca – 1-5, 2 RBIs Brandon Knarr – 5 IP, 4 R (1 ER), 5 H, 0 BB, 3 K Robbie Hitt – 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks Nash Walters – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 K Kent Hasler (Loss) – 0 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 1 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 0 K Next week’s outlook: The 30-31 Shuckers will play Marlins’ red-hot AA affiliate Pensacola (33-25) at home this week. Expect RHP Noah Zavolas to start Game One, trying to build on an excellent last outing (6 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 8 Ks). Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Memphis 7, Nashville 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Battling Sounds Drop Series Finale LHP Ethan Small continued his recent struggles, battling through four difficult innings (3 runs, 4 hits, 4 walks) and exiting with the Sounds down 3-0. However, from that point, it was nearly the “David Dahl game”, as he consistently came through to bring Nashville back from deficits: A two-out, two-run double to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning A game-tying sacrifice fly in the seventh inning (scoring Garrett Whitley, who’d walked). 4-4 game A solo homer in the ninth inning to claw back to within 7-6 RHP Jandel Gustave made this second rehab appearance in Nashville, this time giving up two hits and a sacrifice fly to fall behind 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dahl’s sacrifice fly and a Tyler White two-out RBI single swung the Sounds back into the lead at 5-4 in the top of the seventh inning, before an excellent defensive play by Memphis right fielder Scott Hurst nailed White at the plate on a Weston Wilson single. RHP Alec Bettinger came in for extended relief, running into difficulty in the bottom of the seventh inning by conceding two runs on two hits and a walk for a 6-5 deficit. RHP Matt Hardy then struggled through the eighth inning by yielding a single and two walks, though the damage was limited to one run thanks to a fly ball double play, with OF Corey Ray throwing out a runner at second base. Overall, Mr. Ray had a nice game, singling in the first inning, knocking in Nashville’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, singling and scoring in the seventh inning and then having that nice defensive play to keep the game close in the eighth inning. Performances of Note: David Dahl – 2-3, HR, double, walk, SF, 3 RBIs Corey Ray – 2-4, RBI, SF Weston Wilson – 2-5 Mario Feliciano – 2-4 Andruw Monasterio – 2-4 Garrett Whitley – 1-2, double, 3 walks Tyler White – 1-5, RBI Ethan Small – 4 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 4 BB, 2 WP, 4 Ks Alec Bettinger (Loss) – 2 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K Next week’s outlook: Nashville (39-26) also return home this week to face Braves’ AAA affiliate Gwinnett (33-33). Expect RHP Josh Lindblom to make his 13th appearance (12th start), after a successful game last week (6 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 5 Ks). We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Carolina dominated Columbia for a 4th straight victory on the road. I doubt it, since Frelick has already had one promotion and Wiemer's K rate has ticked up (71 in 242 plate appearances). Plus Nashville still has Almonte, Dahl, Ray and Whitley as core AAA outfielders, plus Reyes and Wilson also getting some OF time. However, Wiemer's .862 OPS, 18 stolen bases (vs. 1 caught stealing) and 8 outfield assists likely have the organization at least considering the move. And Almonte may be injured after leaving Wednesday's game early. If they make a move to promote Wiemer, expect it to be announced on Tuesday evening. Having Turang (22), Wiemer (23) and Feliciano (23) all in AAA would be a thrill.

The Shuckers’ return-to-expected-form continued on Thursday, as they handily defeated a decent Chattanooga squad 11-4 for a 2-1 series lead. This time it was starter Justin Bullock coming through with his best performance of 2022, though covering just three innings as he works back to full strength. Home runs by Thomas Dillard and Cam Devanney powered the offense, along with 2 RBI doubles from Gabe Holt. Nashville didn’t give in despite a 7-0 deficit on the road, cutting it to 7-6 with two runners on and nobody out in the ninth inning before the effort ended there. The Timber Rattlers had limited options for starting pitcher in their game, so Zach Mort had to step in and wear an eight-run, ten-hit nightmare. Carolina will need a win today and then sweep their doubleheader in Columbia on Saturday in order to turn their 0-2 series deficit around. In the Dominican Summer League, the Brewers-1 youngsters finally had their bats come alive, getting 13 hits in 25 at-bats in a lightning-shorted five-inning, 8-3 victory which boosted their record to 2-6. Impressive 17-year old OF Luis Lara went 3-for-3 as he makes his case to move stateside. Sunday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Dillard, Devanney, Bullock and Holt, as well as Weston Wilson. Transactions: RHP Thomas Jankins retired from AAA Nashville Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Rainout – Rescheduled for Saturday Doubleheader Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Mudcats and Fireflies Postponed Thursday INF Jean Carmona’s Grand Return to action in the Brewers’ organization will need to wait one more day. Friday’s outlook: Expect the same lineup intended for Thursday to go at it tomorrow, led by sterling RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez, though there’s a chance that RHP Fernando Olguin will make the start instead. Wisconsin Pre-Game Notes Final: Great Lakes 13, Wisconsin 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Great Lakes collects 19 hits in 13-4 win over the Rattlers The 13-4 score looks bad and the game wasn’t even as close as that line indicates, as the Timber Rattlers trailed 12-0 after five innings, going scoreless with nine strikeouts against Loon starter Nick Nastrini. Perhaps short of starting arms (where’s LHP Russell Smith ?), the team went with RHP Zach Mort as its starter, though he had not started a game since last September and had only thrown more than 50 pitches in a game once this year. Sorry Zach!! – you’ve been terrific in relief (0.95 WHIP entering the game)! Mort’s season ERA ballooned from 3.18 to 5.06. Offensively, Wisconsin left the bases loaded in the first inning and stranded two more in the second inning, which obviously didn’t help their cause. The Timber Rattlers finally broke against Great Lakes’ bullpen with four runs in the 6th inning on four hits (including a Wes Clarke homer, his 8th of the year; and an Arbert Cipion two-run double) and two walks, but unfortunately ran themselves out of the inning trying to reach 3rd base while down 12-4. Position player Ashton McGee moved over from 1st base to pitch the 9th inning and did not yield a run, while designated hitter Alex Hall moved to catcher and Wes Clarke moved from catcher to 1st base. Did you get all that? Performances of Note: Tyler Black – 3-4, walk Arbert Cipion – 2-3, double, walk, HBP, SB Wes Clarke – 1-4, HR, walk, RBI Zach Mort (Loss) – 3 2/3 IP, 8 R, 10 H, 0 BB, 2 HBP, 2 Ks Ashton McGee – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 1 K Friday’s outlook: RHP Justin Jarvis (4.14 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, 9.4 K/9 in 58 2/3 innings) is set to take the mound, as Wisconsin aims to tie up their series in Great Lakes 2-2. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 11, Chattanooga 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Steady Offense Leads Biloxi To 11-4 Victory Things are really turning around nicely in Biloxi in all facets of the game, as evidenced in Thursday’s 11-4 victory when all nine Shucker batters got at least one base hit, along with either a run scored or an RBI. On the mound, RHP Justin Bullock had his best outing of 2022, covering three scoreless innings time with 41 pitches (28 strikes). This was in spite of a dangerous first inning where the first two Lookout batters reached via double and single and they ultimately loaded the bases with one out. However, Bullock escaped by striking out three hitters in the frame. After that initial trouble, Biloxi’s offense responded with three straight hits in the second inning, the last a Gabe Holt RBI double for a 1-0 Shucker lead. Jakson Reetz (a potential 40-man MLB roster add in the coming off-season) then smacked his 13th home run of 2022 on a 2-0 pitch to double the margin. RHP Carlos Luna came on for extended relief, ably covering five innings and largely saving the bullpen by throwing 94 pitches to earn the win, while the Shucker consistently added to their lead. He struck out eight batters in his strong effort, though yielded four runs. Thomas Dillard’s 5th home run of the season, a three-run shot in the fifth inning, stretched Biloxi’s lead to 5-0. Cam Devanney followed with a solo shot in the sixth inning (his 9th of the year), homering on consecutive days, before a Lookout error pushed the lead to 7-1. A run-scoring wild pitch, another Gabe Holt RBI double and a Sal Frelick sacrifice fly grew the margin to 10-2 in the seventh inning. RHP Nash Walters ably covered the ninth inning, striking out the first two Chattanooga hitters he faced. Performances of Note: Thomas Dillard – 2-6, HR, 3 RBIs Gabe Holt – 3-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs Cam Devanney – 2-3, HR, walk, HBP, RBI Sal Frelick – 2-4, triple, walk, SF, RBI Noah Campbell – 2-4, double, walk Felix Valerio – 2-5, double Jakson Reetz – 1-5, HR, walk, RBI Justin Bullock – 3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks Carlos Luna (Win) – 5 IP, 4 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 8 Ks Nash Walters – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks Friday’s outlook: Biloxi leads Chattanooga 2-1 thus far and will send LHP Nick Bennett to the mound to follow in the footsteps of Noah Zavolas and Justin Bullock in aiming for his best outing of 2022. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Memphis 7, Nashville 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Sounds Come Up Just Short in Memphis Our solid Nashville squad battled back gallantly in this affair, although the early seven-run deficit was just too much to overcome (bear?). Starting RHP Tyler Herb will need to have his breakout AAA performance another night. His three-up, three-down first inning was followed by a bases loaded escape in the second inning and then a six-run, 11-Redbird batter third inning which included seven hits and a walk. LHP Andy Otero entered for that 11th batter with two-on and two-out, inducing a fly out to mercifully end the frame. However, Memphis then tacked on a 7th run in the fifth inning, which ultimately proved valuable. Down 7-0 but not out of it, Nashville’s offense awoke in the sixth inning, with INF Andruw Monasterio smacking a three-run blast for his first home run of 2022. While Otero kept the Redbirds guessing in 3 1/3 innings of work, the Sounds clawed back to 7-5 in the sixth inning on a Tyler White RBI single and David Dahl sacrifice fly. Otero was relieved by the eminently capable Hobie Harris in the seventh inning, then the Sounds put a scare into Memphis by loading the bases in the eighth inning, though that opportunity went for naught. After Harris faced the minimum number of Memphis batters over two innings, Weston Wilson opened the ninth inning with his 5th homer of the year, cutting the deficit to 7-6. This was immediately followed by a Jonathan Davis double and Brice Turang infield single to put the potential game-winning runs on base with nobody out. Unfortunately, that was the last hurrah for Nashville, as Memphis’ Kodi Whitley struck out Pablo Reyes and Jon Singleton, before inducing a pop out to end the game. Performances of Note: Weston Wilson – 2-4, HR, RBI, SB David Dahl – 2-3, SF, RBI Andruw Monasterio – 1-4, HR, 3 RBIs Jon Singleton – 1-4, double, walk Tyler White – 1-4, walk, RBI Jonathan Davis – 1-5, double Pablo Reyes – 1-3, 2 walks Tyler Herb (Loss) – 2 2/3 IP, 6 R, 9 H, 2 BB, 1 WP, 5 Ks Andy Otero – 3 1/3 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Hobie Harris – 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks Friday’s outlook: Nashville is down 2-1 in their series in Memphis, so now turns to RHP Caleb Boushley to start Game Four of the series. Boushley’s been excellent of late, winning his last four starts while throwing over 90 pitches in each of his last three games (0.90 ERA over last 20 innings). ARIZONA COMPLEX LEAGUE Final: ACL Athletics 5, ACL Brewers Blue 4 Box Score / Game Log Similar to the Sounds, the Brewers Blue squad simply ran out of time on their comeback, scoring in each of the last four innings to cut the deficit to 5-4 in this shortened seven-inning game. Unfortunately, the loss dropped the team to 1-7 on the season. Starting RHP Jared Albir was not able to reproduce his terrific performance last week, giving up three hits, a walk and hitting a batter in a three-run third inning. Recently-turned 18-year old INF Ney Serrano hit his first home run of the season to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fifth inning. Then in a game of hero-to-goat on the same play, 18-year old INF Jonatan Guzman laced a two-on, two-out, RBI single in the sixth inning to make it a 4-3 game, but got himself thrown out trying for second base. After the Athletics restored their lead to 5-3, the final inning started promising for the Blue team with two walks and a hit-by-pitch and nobody out, but the team could not muster the big hit to tie it up, only getting one run home via wild pitch to close the gap to the 5-4 final scoreline. Performances of Note: Eduarqui Fernandez – 2-4, double, RBI Ney Serrano – 1-2, HR, HBP, RBI Alexander Perez – 1-3, double, walk Jonatan Guzman – 1-3, RBI Luis Medina – 1-4, SB Jose Chavez – 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Final: ACL Guardians 5, ACL Brewers Gold 3 Box Score / Game Log After getting their first run without a hit (error, two wild pitches) in the fourth inning to close to within 2-1, the Gold team earned their second run in the sixth inning on a Jadher Areinamo double and Luis Castillo sacrifice fly to make it a 2-2 game. 18-year old LHP Caden Vire got through two innings of relief work without yielding a run or hit, but the Guardians got to him in the seventh inning via a walk, single and three-run homer by 20-year old Wuilfredo Antunez (1.321 OPS in 26 plate appearances this year, with eight walks and two strikeouts), who is probably expecting a promotion to a full season squad soon. Two singles (by Gregory Barrios and Areinamo) and an error in the eighth inning enable the Gold team to reduce the deficit to 5-3 with two men on base, but potent Blayberg Diaz (.774 career OPS, all in the ACL) flied out to right field to end that threat. Then again in the ninth inning, boys two men reached (Eduarh Colina single, Gregory Barrios walk) with two outs, but also-potent Areinamo flied out to center field to end the game. Brewers’ 24-year old LHP Justin King (signed from independent ball on June 5th) kept his ERA at 0.00 in covering the two scoreless innings, as he aims for a promotion to Low-A Carolina. Performances of Note: Jadher Areinamo – 2-5, double Luis Castillo – 1-2, triple, walk, SF, RBI Gregory Barrios – 1-3, walk, HBP Blayberg Diaz – 1-3, walk, SB Justin King – 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE Final: DSL Brewers #1 Squad 8, DSL Tigers #2 Squad 3, five innings, lightning Box Score / Game Log In just their 2nd win of the young season (2-6), the #1'ers had 13 base hits, four for extra bases, despite the shortened affair. They only drew one walk, so they were hacking, and successfully so, Guys and gals - presenting again, Luis Lara. Lara has reached base in all eight games thus far, hitless only once. He has a four-hit game, this game that was cut short with three hits, and four two hit games. The 17-year-old switch-hitting Venezuelan bonus baby center fielder sports a 1.227 OPS, only four K's in 33 at-bats. In the top of the 4th, the Tigers had two runs in to tie the game at 3-3 with men on 2nd and 3rd and only one out. RHP Dikember Sanchez inherited that tough spot and immediately got a line drive to third base, doubling off the runner at 3rd, squashing the rally, Buoyed by that big moment, the Crew put up a five-spot in the bottom half highlighted by a three-run double by another high-bonus position player in 17-year-old switch-hitting Venezuelan shortstop Jhonny Severino. Roman La Torre, a left-handed swinging catcher out of Venezuela who just turned 17 last month, is 3-for-7 with two doubles and a walk to begin his career. La Torre signed in January for just $10,000. Yet another 17-year-old, starting LHP Wande Torres, posted a solid line in his 2nd pro appearance. He signed for $38,700, an odd number but we never quite know how the organization has to make the bonus dollars allocate into their overall pool Performances of Note: Luis Lara – 3-3, double, RBI Arnys Rodriguez – 2-2, walk, RBI Roman La Torre – 2-3, double Duncan Garcia – 1-2, triple, SF, RBI Jhonny Severino – 1-3, double, 3 RBIs Gery Holguin – 1-3, RBI Angel Pereira – 1-3, HBP Dikember Sanchez (Win) – 1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks Final: DSL Texas Red 7, DSL Brewers #2 Squad 3, six innings, lightning Box Score / Game Log Crew #2 falls to 3-5. They scored only one earned run on the day, as Texas' team won despite four errors. The Brewers committed two miscues of their own, including another by 17-year-old bonus baby Johan Barrios at third base, his 9th. That was the lone ground ball sent Barrios' way. Brewers batters had four singles and six walks. As we often saw last year, it was green lights a-plenty, as the organization develops stolen base techniques. Only 3-for-6 in attempts here. When Juan Baez was signed in January, he was listed as a catcher, but the 16-year-old (turns 17 in ten days) Dominican native has played all over the infield and primarily at shortstop thus far. He is also batting 3rd, and scorching with a .387/.412/.613 line (1.025 OPS). He too, signed for just $10,000. It's just such an incredibly unique dynamic among the players, a few among them are pre-tax millionaires, and most are just grateful for an opportunity. Here's the page you want to bookmark, as MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez provided bonus info on all the members of the large 2022 Brewers international signing class Performances of Note: Ludwin Tejada – 1-3, walk, RBI, SB Juan Baez – 1-2, walk, SB Johan Barrios – 1-2, walk Irving Iguales – 1-2, walk We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Wisconsin jumped out to a comfortable lead, allowed Great Lakes back in the contest, then got the big Ethan Murray two-out, 9th inning single to win it. The combination of Antoine Kelly, James Meeker and Cam Robinson (combined two runs over nine innings of work) are difficult to beat. Carolina and Biloxi both battled hard in their contests, both of which were knotted late. Carolina just couldn’t punch across that 4th run in a tight 3-3 affair in spite of many opportunities, before conceding several runs late to lose 7-3. And Biloxi clawed back to a 6-6 tie in the 8th inning, before dropping the game 7-6. Ethan Small will return to his exceptional early season form another day, as this Tuesday contest was his third straight challenging start, in a 7-3 Nashville loss. For the youngsters, RHP Yerlin Rodriguez offered up an excellent 2nd start and OF Jace Avina hit his 2nd home run of 2022 to lead the ACL Gold squad, while DSL Brewers2 grabbed a walk-off 5-4 victory by scoring two runs in the 9th inning. Tuesday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Kelly and Meeker, as well as Tyler Black, Stiven Cruz and Brent Diaz. Transactions: LHP Pablo Garabitos returned to Low-A Carolina from AAA Nashville RHP Raul Mendoza promoted from DSL Brewers-1 to ACL Brewers Blue RHP Christian Tripp promoted from Low-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin RHP Max Lazar placed on High-A Wisconsin's 7-day injured list RHP Ryan Middendorf's contract purchased from the Frontier League (Baseball Reference and his Twitter profile show him as right-handed) INF Jean Carmona (recently re-signed after Orioles’ release) assigned to Low-A Carolina RHP Phili Silverio assigned to ACL Brewers Gold from ACL Brewers Blue RHP Delson Guzman placed on the 7-day injured list (Rookie League) RHP Rosmel Reyes placed on the 7-day injured list (Rookie League) Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Columbia 7, Carolina 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Chourio has RBI Triple in 7-3 Loss This game came down to which offense could come through late, as it was a 3-3 contest most of the way. Unfortunately, Columbia came through with the late four-run inning, eking out a victory in spite of being out-hit 10-6 by the Mudcats. The Mudcats left nine men on base vs. just three for Columbia, with Carolina going 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position vs. 3-for-5 for the Fireflies. RHP Stiven Cruz was his usual solid self, allowing just three hits over five innings. An unfortunate third inning (two singles, a walk, hit-by-pitch and a steal of home) gave the Fireflies their three runs off of Cruz for a surprise 3-0 lead. Carolina’s offense awoke in the 4th inning, with an Eduardo Garcia double, Jackson Chourio RBI triple and Jeferson Quero RBI single closing the gap to 3-2. Chourio then scored again in the 5th inning an a Hedbert Perez single to knot the game at 3-3. LHP Karlos Morales took the tough luck loss, in spite of only conceding one run in nearly three innings of work. Taking over for Morales with one-on and two-out in the 3-3 affair in the 8th inning, RHP Michele Vassalotti showed some apparent rust, having pitched just one inning over the past week. He walked the first two batters he faced before giving up a triple, thus letting the previously-tight contest get out of hand at 7-3. Performances of Note: Zack Raabe – 3-5, double Eduardo Garcia – 2-5, double Jackson Chourio – 1-5, triple, RBI Jeferson Quero – 1-4, RBI Hedbert Perez – 1-4, RBI Jesus Chirinos – 1-3, walk Stiven Cruz – 5 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 3 BB, 6 Ks Karlos Morales (Loss) – 2 2/3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 Ks Wednesday’s outlook: RHP Israel Puello is earmarked to start in the second game of the series, as Carolina looks to even it up 1-1. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 8, Great Lakes 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website: Two-Run Ninth Sends Wisconsin to Win at Great Lakes As is typically the case when he’s on the mound, LHP Antoine Kelly was the big story for most of this game, striking out ten Loons over just five innings of work, which was in fact a massive turnaround after the first four Great Lakes' batters of the game reached base. Kelly received solid offensive support in this contest, as Wisconsin jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on two first innings singles (Wes Clarke RBI), two walks (Joe Gray Jr. RBI) and a Loon error. However, the opening Loon reached base via a wild pitch strikeout, which was followed by three singles to close the gap to 3-1, with the bases loaded and still nobody out. From there, Kelly and his defense hunkered down, with 3B Zavier Warren throwing out a runner at home and Mr. Kelly striking out the final two hitters. A second inning Great Lakes homer brought the score to 3-2, before the Timber Rattlers opened it up via a Tyler Black bases-clearing triple in the fourth inning for a 6-2 lead. After five innings and 84 pitches, Kelly was relieved by normally-reliable RHP Joey Matulovich, who allowed all four batters to reach (single, double, two walks) before exiting for RHP James Meeker. Meeker did his best to limit the damage, getting a ground out and two strikeouts around a single, but unfortunately all three inherited runners scored (aided by a passed ball) to re-set the game at 6-6. Meeker earned the victory with three innings of stellar work, walking none while conceding two singles, giving Wisconsin the chance to pull it out in the 9th inning. After a Micah Bello single, Tyler Black walk and two strikeouts, Ethan Murray came through with the lead-retaking single on a 2-2 pitch, before Wes Clarke was beaned to add an insurance run. 8-6 Wisconsin. In his usual manner, Cam Robinson locked down the 9th inning in three-up, three-down fashion, earning his 14th save of 2022. Performances of Note: Tyler Black – 2-4, triple, walk, 3 RBIs Wes Clarke – 1-4, HBP, 2 RBIs Ethan Murray – 1-4, walk, RBI Micah Bello – 1-3, walk Antoine Kelly – 5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 10 Ks James Meeker (Win) – 3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks Cam Robinson (Save) – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K Wednesday’s outlook: RHP Ryne Moore looks to extend Wisconsin’s series lead to 2-0, coming off a terrific last outing (7 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 7 Ks). LHP Russell Smith could also use some work, after having his turn postponed on Sunday. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Chattanooga 7, Biloxi 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Lookouts Sneak Past Shuckers 7-6 Biloxi showed quality resolve in this game, chipping away at deficits of 4-0 (first inning) and 6-3 (4th inning) to nearly snatch victory-from-defeat, although it was not to be this evening. Starting LHP Brandon Knarr was unable to replicate last week superb AA debut, giving up four first inning singles and a triple to put the Shuckers in that early 4-0 hole. After failing to capitalize on a bases-loaded, two-out opportunity in the second inning, a little Joey Wiemer defense in the 3rd inning (outfield assist, his 8th of the year) at least kept the game at 4-0. Biloxi finally broke through with a three-run, four-hit fourth inning (Tristen Lutz double, Brent Diaz RBI single, Yeison Coca RBI single, Sal Frelick RBI single) to re-set the contest at 4-3. Unfortunately, Chattanooga immediately responded in the bottom of half of the fourth inning via a double and two-run homer for a 6-3 lead, with Knarr exiting the game after just four innings of work. The Shuckers kept at it, however, scoring via wild pitch and a Cam Devanney RBI double in the 5th inning for a 6-5 score, which continued into the 8th inning. RHPs JT Hintzen and Kent Hasler kept Biloxi in the game, pitching three scoreless innings despite Hintzen allowing a single and two walks in the 6th inning, thus setting the stage for Wiemer to tie things up with an RBI double to score Noah Campbell (who ran for Diaz, who’d led off with a single) with two outs in the 8th inning. Unfortunately, the Lookouts were on their game this night, again immediately responding by bringing home the game-winning run in the bottom of the 8th inning via a passed ball for a 7-6 lead. Hasler had allowed two singles and a walk to load the bases with one out, with RHP Nash Walters then coming in to retire two of the three batters he faced. Thomas Dillard’s two-out single in the 9th inning went for naught, so Biloxi just have to try their luck again tomorrow. Performances of Note: Brent Diaz – 2-3, walk, RBI Tristen Lutz – 2-5, double Thomas Dillard – 2-4, walk Cam Devanney – 1-4, double, walk, RBI Joey Wiemer – 1-5, double, RBI Brandon Knarr – 4 IP, 6 R, 9 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks JT Hintzen – 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 Ks Kent Hasler (Loss) – 1 1/3 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks Wednesday’s outlook: RHP Noah Zavolas (7.48 ERA in 21 2/3 innings), is scheduled to make his 6th start of 2022 tonight, hopefully rounding into form after missing the start of the season. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Memphis 7, Nashville 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Sounds Stifled in Series Opener at Memphis LHP Ethan Small has not yet settled back into his pre-MLB debut form, registering a 2nd straight rough start in AAA (or 3rd straight including that MLB debut), this time uncharacteristically giving up five earned runs in less than five innings of work. Memphis grabbed the early 2-0 lead in the third inning on two singles, a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch, before the Sounds tied it back up 2-2 in the fifth inning on Pablo Reyes 6th AAA home run of 2022, scoring David Dahl (who’d singled). However, the Redbirds’ Ali Sanchez smacked a two-on-, two-out, 3-1 pitch over the center field wall in the bottom of the 5th inning to restore Memphis’ lead, this time at 5-2. Memphis then added two more runs in the 6th inning off reliever Andy Otero, while Nashville posed minimal offensive threat until the 9th inning. In the 9th, Mario Feliciano continued his good run of form at the plate, knocking in Abraham Almonte with a bases loaded, two-out single, thus bringing the potential game-tying run to the plate in the form of Weston Wilson. Not fooling around, the Redbirds went for the pitching change, bringing in RHP Zach McAllister, who got Wilson swinging on a 1-2 pitch to end it. Performances of Note: David Dahl – 2-4 Pablo Reyes – 1-4, HR, 2 RBIs Jon Singleton – 1-3, walk Mario Feliciano – 1-4, RBI Ethan Small (Loss) – 4 2/3 IP, 5 R, 4 H, 5 BB, 2 WP, 4 Ks Hobie Harris – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 WP, 1 K Luke Barker – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 K Wednesday’s outlook: RHP Tyler Herb (3.00 ERA in 51 combined innings across AA and AAA) is scheduled to take the mound in the second game of the series, which will be his 5th appearance since his recent promotion to the Sounds. Arizona Complex League Final: ACL Guardians 10, ACL Brewers Blue 3 Box Score / Game Log The ACL Blue squad started well, with a Jonatan Guzman double and Jace Avina two-run homer (2nd of the year) giving them a 2-0 first inning lead. However, starting RHP Jesus Rivero ran into trouble in the 3rd inning, with a hit-by-pitch, walk, infield single and then a double knotting up the game at 2-2. RHP Raul Mendoza then entered in relief for his state-side debut, with the bases loaded and two outs, struggling with a bases loaded walk, run-scoring passed ball and then a run-scoring single for a 5-2 deficit. The Blue squad did put two men on in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but only brought one run home to temporarily make it a 5-3 game, before Cleveland blew open the game with five runs in the sixth and seventh innings, dropping Blue’s record to 1-6 on the young season. Performances of Note: Jace Avina – 2-3, HR, HBP, 2 RBIs Beyker Pastran – 2-4 Jonatan Guzman – 1-5, double, RBI Ney Serrano – 1-2, 2 walks Quinton Low – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Final: ACL Brewers Gold 4, ACL Cubs 2 Box Score / Game Log The Gold team notched its 6th victory in seven contests, jumping out to a four-run lead and riding strong pitching to keep the Cubs at bay. It’s always fun to score without getting a hit, right? Well, that’s how Gold opened the game, with a Branlyn Jaraba (first appearance of 2022, though he exited after five innings) sacrifice fly bringing in Gregory Barrios for the early 1-0 lead. The second inning was a bit more of the same (two walks and a wild pitch), but more importantly included an RBI single by Diego Larez and two-run single by the impressive Luis Castillo (1.335 OPS through 29 plate appearances) to increase the gap to 4-0. On the mound, RHP Yerlin Rodriguez was solid in his 2nd start of 2022, once again covering five innings, only having difficulty when the first three batters reached base (walk, double, single for two runs) in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Cubs consistently put men on base in the remaining innings, but were unable to convert against the bullpen of Trevor Tietz and Fray Morelo, ultimately going 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position for the game. Performances of Note: Jason Ollarve – 2-3, HBP Luis Castillo – 1-4, 2 RBIs Diego Larez – 1-3, RBI Yerlin Rodriguez (Win) – 5 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks Trevor Tietz – 2 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K Fray Morelo (Save) – 2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks Dominican Summer League Final: DSL Phillies White 7, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 1 Box Score / Game Log The #1 Team, now with a 1-6 record, is not living up to its "#1" moniker, managing only two hits in this game. They actually led 1-0 on an RBI double from 18-year-old RF Duncan Garcia, but even that run was unearned due to a Phillie error. Then, after the double, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, a pop out and ground out ended the inning. 17-year-old 6'3" switch-hitting SS/3B Jhonny Severino ($1.23 million out of the Dominican Republic) is off to a mixed start, 4-for-19, .211/.423/.211, six walks, ten K's. He was the designated hitter in this one. The four Brewers arms combined to walk eight, with each contributing to that total. No debuts, with some "2nd professional outings" here. Performances of Note: Duncan Garcia – 1-4, double, RBI Osbriel Mogollon – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K Final: DSL Brewers #2 Squad 5, DSL Tigers #1 Squad 4 Box Score / Game Log DSL Crew #2 upped their record to 3-4 with this walk-off win. OK, so it was a balk-off win, but the young men still bounced joyfully into the afternoon. Down 4-3 entering the bottom of the 9th, a leadoff walk by 8th place hitter 17-year-old Venezuelan first baseman Edgardo Reyes was followed by a line drive RBI double from 18-year-old Panamanian OF Irving Igualas who was the DH for this game. That was Igualas' second double Tuesday. After a groundout and intentional walk, the balk by the Tigers pitcher ended things, Did we mention the Brewers were successful on all seven stolen base attempts? 17-year-old switch-hitting Dominican CF Reminton Batista swiped three and is now 5-for-6 in attempts. Speaking of seven, did we mention the Brewers won despite committing seven errors? Rough day for the $1.385 million top-bonus prospect Johan Barrios, the 6'3" Venezuelan native who has thus far split time between shortstop and third base. Four errors in this game while manning the hot corner, three fielding, one throwing, all by the end of the 4th inning. He was lifted after the 5th inning. Overall, Barrios has committed eight errors in seven games, the other four coming while at shortstop. Give it time. Two singles for 18-year-old 2nd year LF Yeison Perez, and the Venezuelan saw his OPS actually fall to 1.336, that's how hot he's been with five of his previous six hits going for extra bases. None of the four runs Crew pitchers allowed were earned, as one might imagine. A combined nine strikeouts vs. two walks for the trio. Performances of Note: Irving Igualas – 2-4, 2 doubles, RBI, SB Reminton Batista – 2-4, walk, 3 SBs Yeison Perez – 2-4, SB Jamal Zalm – 2-5 Edgardo Reyes – 1-3, walk, RBI Juan Baez – 1-3, SF, RBI Anfernny Reyes – 5 IP, 4 R (0 ER), 6 H, 1 BB, 5 Ks David Dominguez – 3 IP, 0 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 4 Ks Waldin Rodriguez (Win) – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 0 K We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Antoine Kelly struck out ten in leading Wisconsin to an 8-6 win. Biloxi fought back from an early deficit but lost 7-6. Carolina battled, but also lost the game late. Nashville couldn’t keep up with Memphis, losing 7-3. Our young short-season squads won two and lost two. The Mudcats left nine men on base vs. just three for Columbia, with Carolina going 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position vs. 3-for-5 for the Fireflies. RHP Stiven Cruz was his usual solid self, allowing just three hits over five innings. Biloxi’s bullpen took care of business, enabling Tristen Lutz to hit the game-winning single in extra innings. Nashville was outplayed and looks forward to a better week ahead. The Wisconsin-Beloit finale was Covid-ed out and will not be made up. Carolina couldn’t keep up with Myrtle Beach. The Shuckers grabbed an early 4-1 lead, but defensive difficulties knotted it 4-4 before their suddenly lock down bullpen carried them to an extra inning win, with Tristen Lutz getting to play hero. Zach Vennaro earned that victory with two innings of stellar work, not even allowing Manfred’s ghost to advance. The efforts earned Biloxi a 3-3 series split. There was little to cheer in the Carolina or Nashville games, though Hedbert Perez continues his terrific resurgence (7th homer of the year). Each squad dropped its series 4-2 this week. Wisconsin never got a chance to even up their series in Beloit, with the Covid cancellation leaving them with a 3-2 series loss. Sunday’s Game Balls go to the aforementioned Lutz, Perez, Vennaro, Jakson Reetz and Mario Feliciano. Transactions: N/A Hopefully Wisconsin’s Covid cancellation doesn’t result player unavailability in the coming week. Fingers crossed! Game Action: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Myrtle Beach 15, Carolina 6 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Mudcats Fall in Series Finale 15-6 to Myrtle Beach Carolina needed a victory in their finale against the excellent Myrtle Beach squad, but were essentially blown out of their own building, falling behind 5-0 (first inning) and 10-2 (third inning). Two game-opening walks issued by starting RHP Jefferson Figueroa were followed by an error, triple, two more errors and a wild pitch to put the Mudcats in an early 4-0 hole. On the bright side, Carolina leadoff man Eduardo Garcia homered to start the bottom of the first inning. Hedbert Perez then did the same in the second inning to cut it to 5-2, with a single and walk bringing the Mudcats’ potential game-tying run to the plate with just one out. However, opposing starter Tyler Schaffler dispatched that threat (strikeout, ground out) and the Pelicans’ offense erupted for five runs in the 3rd inning. None of the first four Mudcat pitchers were immune from the beatdown, as Figueroa, Brannon Jordan, Jakob Brustoski and Miguel Segura all struggled. Let’s give credit to Segura for at least covering five innings of work though, thus saving a few arms. Jackson Chourio had a rare game-to-forget, going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. I hate to bring attention to him this way, but that spotlight is not going to dim anytime soon, for better or worse. Shake it off, young man! We appreciate you! Performances of Note: Hedbert Perez – 2-4, HR, double, 2 RBIs Hendry Mendez – 2-3, walk Eduardo Garcia – 1-4, HR, walk, RBI Jheremy Vargas – 1-3, walk, 2 RBIs Jesus Chirinos – 1-4, RBI Jefferson Figueroa (Loss) – 2/3 IP, 5 R (1 ER), 1 H, 3 BB, 1 WP, 0 Ks Miguel Segura – 5 IP, 5 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 2 Ks Karlos Morales – 1 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 0 BB, 1 K Next week’s outlook: The 30-27 Mudcats hit the road to take on Royals’ Low-A affiliate Columbia (16-41). Expect one of RHPs Stiven Cruz, Edwin Jimenez or Israel Puello to start in the opening game. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Cancelled Due to Covid Safety Measures (Will Not Be Rescheduled) Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, rainout details: Sunday’s Timber Rattlers Game at Beloit Canceled Wisconsin was poised to grab a 3-3 series split with a victory in the finale, but never got the chance due to cancellation based on Covid concerns. Next week’s outlook: The 33-23 Timber Rattlers remain on the road to take on Dodgers’ High-A affiliate Great Lakes (33-24). Expect LHP Russell Smith (5 2/3 IP, 2 runs, 8 Ks last outing) to start the opener after missing his chance to throw today. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 5, Tennessee 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers Walk Off Smokies for Second Time in Series Finale This was the only competitive game for the Brewers’ minor league affiliates, but Biloxi and Chattanooga gave us a doozy. Starter TJ Shook shrugged off a leadoff homer (INF Chase Stumpf’s 12th of the year) to prevent any more damage over the first four innings, though there was a bit of traffic (stranded two runners in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings). Biloxi responded in a big way in that same first inning, with a two-run Jakson Reetz double and RBI singles by Tristen Lutz and Cam Devanney giving the team a 4-1 lead. Shook’s 5th inning should have been straightforward, in spite of a leadoff walk. This was followed by a strikeout, high fly ball to left field and a grounder to first base. Unfortunately, that fly ball got caught in the lights (Lutz couldn’t see it) and the grounder somehow eluded both Noah Campbell at first base and Joey Wiemer in right field, giving the Smokies a lifeline. RHP Robbie Hitt entered the 4-2 game, with two on and one out, but a Reetz throwing error allowed both inherited runners to score. Shuckers 4, Smokies 4 – all to play for. To his credit, Hitt retired five consecutive batters, then handed over to RHP Arnaldo Hernandez. Hernandez pitched a clean 7th inning, but faced serious trouble with consecutive walks and a wild pitch to commence the 8th inning. However, he pulled a great escape, getting a harmless ground out and then an unconventional double play (left field to shortstop to double up the runner at 2nd base) to keep things even. RHP Vennaro entered to cover the 9th inning and more, working around a leadoff walk in the 9th inning and then retiring the next six batters in order. Offensively, Biloxi put two players on base in the 6th inning (single, error), had a leadoff 7th inning walk, a leadoff 8th inning double (Reetz) and a one-out 9th inning walk, but couldn’t convert any of the chances. On any other night, they’d be ruing the missed opportunities, but not this evening. Gifted with Manfred’s ghost (in the form of pinch-runner Terence Doston) on 2nd base to start the bottom of the 10th inning, Mr. Lutz made sure to end it immediately, smacking the game-winning single to left field. Performances of Note: Jakson Reetz – 2-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBIs Tristen Lutz – 2-5, 2 RBIs Sal Frelick – 2-5 Cam Devanney – 1-3, walk, RBI Joey Wiemer – 1-4, SB TJ Shook – 4 1/3 IP, 4 R (3 ER), 6 H, 3 BB, 4 Ks Robbie Hitt – 1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks Arnaldo Hernandez – 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 WP, 1 K Zach Vennaro (Win) – 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks Next week’s outlook: The 26-29 Shuckers will bus to Reds’ AA affiliate Chattanooga (30-27). Expect promising LHP Brandon Knarr (6 IP, 1 run, 8 Ks in his AA debut last week) to handle the series opener. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Norfolk 7, Nashville 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details: Sounds Drop Finale, Lose Six-Game Series to Norfolk The Sounds needed a win at home in the finale to salvage a 3-3 series split against Norfolk, but it was not to be on this day. The Tides’ bats were active, with eight hits scoring five runs over the first four innings of the game against Nashville starting RHP Dylan File. OF Corey Ray managed to double and score in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1, but a three-run 4th inning put the Sounds back on their heels down 5-1. A Pablo Reyes double and Mario Feliciano RBI single had them back in business down 5-2 with one out in the 4th inning, but old friend Marcos Diplan came on in relief to eliminate the threat and earn the win. Feliciano was the bright spot for Nashville, reaching base three times as he continues to prove his offensive capability (now hitting .301 on the season, though waiting for the power to come through). The game also marked a return to AAA for RHP Luke Barker after recently being optioned from the Big Club. Performances of Note: Mario Feliciano – 2-3, double, walk, RBI Corey Ray – 1-4, double Pablo Reyes – 1-4, double Jonathan Davis – 1-3, walk Abraham Almonte – 1-3, walk Dylan File (Loss) – 4 IP, 5 R, 8 H, 3 BB, 2 Ks Alec Bettinger – 4 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 2 H, 4 BB, 5 Ks Luke Barker – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Next week’s outlook: Nashville (36-23) will be away this week to battle Cardinals’ AAA affiliate Memphis (35-25). Expect dominant LHP Ethan Small (2.41 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 11.0 K/9 in 41 innings) to start the series opener. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Enjoy your travel day, young fellas! Stiven Cruz (Game One) and Jackson Chourio (Game Two) led Carolina to two tight victories over first place Myrtle Beach. Ryne Moore had his first terrific start in Wisconsin and Cam Robinson closed out the 3-1 win in Beloit. Wiemer, Frelick & Co. followed Biloxi’s recent script of dominating the game, only to unfortunately lose it late 10-9. Nashville continued its recent rough patch, losing two tight contests at home against Norfolk. The short seasons squads won three of their four games. Step-up performances by starting pitchers Stiven Cruz, Edwin Jimenez, Ryne Moore and Jared Albir helped lead the Brewers’ minor league affiliates to four of their six victories on the night. Jackson Chourio’s hitting and on-base streaks were a casualty of a shortened seven-inning game, so he responded by nearly hitting for the cycle in a 3-for-3 second game (single, homer, triple). In Biloxi, Joey Wiemer did a little bit of everything, showing reaching base four times and stealing three bases, before being picked off base for the second last out of their frustrating 10-9 loss. Game Balls for this Thursday night go to Moore, Chourio, Jimenez, Wiemer and David Dahl. In the opener, Carolina grabbed an early 3-0 lead via RBI singles from Jeferson Quero and Hedbert Perez in the first inning, then Jose Sibrian doubling in the second inning and scoring on a balk. On the mound, RHP Stiven Cruz was his usual strong self, escaping a first inning two-on, one-out situation (shallow fly out, ground out) and only conceding a two-run homer in the 3rd inning to tighten the contest. Credit to RHP Brannon Jordan for a clean 6th inning (ground out, two Ks) and LHP Karlos Morales for locking down the save in spite of two two-out singles in the final inning. Unfortunately, Jackson Chourio’s streaks (13 hitting, 21 on-base) had to end in the short seven-inning Game One affair, but it turned out he was simply saving his heroics for Game Two. In the second game, RHP Edwin Jimenez had his best performance of the year, throwing five shutout innings and only allowing three hitters to reach base (two singles, a hit batsman, zero walks). As for Chourio, he nearly hit for the cycle in leading the Mudcat offense: First inning single Fourth inning solo homer to give Carolina a 1-0 lead Sixth inning triple The Mudcats added a necessary insurance run in the 4th inning, thanks to some serious hustle and a little help from the Pelicans: Jeferson Quero walked, stole second and scored on a throwing error. RHP Israel Puello pitched a clean 6th inning in relief, before conceding a run in the final inning on two walks and a single, thankfully retiring the final batter on a first-pitch fly out to right field. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 3, Beloit 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Rattlers Get Moore in 3-1 Win at Beloit After struggling through his first four starts since promotion to High-A, RHP Ryne Moore finally gave Wisconsin what they were expecting. And More! Coming off two losses in Beloit, with the offense struggling of recent, Moore dazzled with seven innings of two-hit, seven-K ball. Of course, it likely helped that the Timber Rattlers brought in three runs in the 2nd inning on an Ethan Murray homer (4th of the year) and RBI doubles by Jose Acosta (the new guy keeps contributing!) and Tristan Peters (10th double of the year). Beloit grabbed a run in the 7th inning to close the gap to 3-1, before hitting a one-out triple off RHP Joey Matulovich in the 8th inning to bring the potential game-tying run to the plate. Matulovich ably escaped that threat (shallow fly out, strike out), before handing over to ace closer RHP Cam Robinson. Robinson struck out three of four hitters to earn his 12th save of the season. Performances of Note: Ethan Murray – 1-4, HR, RBI Tristan Peters – 1-2, double, 2 walks, RBI Jose Acosta – 1-3, double, walk, RBI Wes Clarke – 1-3, double, walk Joe Gray Jr. – 1-4, SB Ryne Moore (Win) – 7 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 7 Ks Joey Matulovich – 1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks Cam Robinson (Save) – 1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks Friday’s outlook: Wisconsin seeks a win today to knot the series at 2-2, though the starting pitcher is not yet known after LHP Brandon Knarr’s recent promotion. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Tennessee 10, Biloxi 9 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Wild Back-And-Forth Affair Ends In 10-9 Smokies Victory Over Biloxi There were lots of fireworks in Biloxi, with the teams combining for 19 runs on 22 hits, whilst leaving 20 men-on-base. Unfortunately, these kinds of games tend to come down to which bullpen is able to eventually stop the bleeding and that’s not exactly been the Shuckers’ strength of late. Despite falling behind 3-0 in the first inning as the Smokies tallied three hits and two walks against starting RHP Noah Zavolas, the Shuckers grabbed leads of 4-3 (fourth inning) and 7-4 (sixth inning) through a hitting barrage, highlighted by a Sal Frelick solo homer (2nd in Biloxi), Tristen Lutz RBI single, Joey Wiemer RBI single and Jakson Reetz two-run double. However, the game went awry in the 7th inning, as RHP Taylor Floyd could not find the zone, walking three batters, beaning one and ultimately being charged with four earned runs in spite of not conceding a hit. RHP Nash Walters entered, but was not able to stem the tide, throwing a run-scoring wild pitch and then giving up a three-run homer for a 9-7 deficit. The Shuckers didn’t give up, with 1B Thomas Dillard doubling home two runners in the bottom half of the 7th inning to tie it back up 9-9. However, Tennessee put the first three batters on base in the top of the 9th inning against RHP Robbie Hitt, who ultimately did well to limit them to one run. Wiemer tried to spark a final rally with a one-out single in the 9th inning, but was unfortunately picked off, as he was itching for his 4th stolen base on the game. Wiemer argued his case, but was ejected from the 10-9 defeat. Performances of Note: Sal Frelick – 3-6, HR, double, RBI Joey Wiemer – 3-5, double, walk, RBI, 3 SBs Cam Devanney – 2-3, 2 walks, SB Jakson Reetz – 1-4, double, walk, 3 RBIs Thomas Dillard – 1-4, double, 2 walks, 2 RBIs, SB Tristen Lutz – 1-3, walk, sac fly, 2 RBIs Jason Lopez – 1-4, double, walk Noah Zavolas – 6 IP, 4 R, 5 H, 3 BB, 6 Ks Robbie Hitt (Loss) – 2 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 K Friday’s outlook: Biloxi trails their series 2-1 and RHP Carlos Luna (4.42 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 36 1/3 innings) is scheduled to make his 6th start (11th appearance) as they strive to tie it up. To his credit, Lindblom settled in to cover five innings, yielding only one more run to exit with a 4-3 deficit. Jonathan Davis and David Dahl did everything in their power to bring the Sounds back into the game, each homering, doubling and driving in a combined four runs. However, with Davis representing the tying run on 3rd base with one out in the 9th inning, Nashville was unable to bring him home. The second Sounds-Tides game of the day was essentially a repeat of the first, with Norfolk jumping out to a 5-2 lead by the 4th inning, though this time keeping the ball in the park with seven hits against RHP Tyler Herb, who completed the initial five innings. Unfortunately, there was no stirring comeback for Nashville from there, registering no hits over the final three innings of the Game Two loss. Notably, RHP Lucas Erceg made his AAA debut in the 7th inning, hitting triple digits on the radar gun as he struck out three Tides’ batters.
