  1. Sure am happy our owner was a fan of that team growing up and not the Pirates. Being a "buyer" is all he knows!
  2. Uh...what about the fact he is already 62 percent of the way toward guaranteeing his $17.5 million vesting option for 2012 (he needs 55 games finished, and he has 34 at the All-Star break)? Do we pull a JJ Hardy and make sure he doesn't get there? His agent is Boras so I'm sure we're not going to get a team-friendly discount.
  3. Whoa. Melvin means business this year. That is all. Note: I am scared to see who we had to give up.
  4. All for a guy who was on the team less than 3 months? Wow.
  5. Oh, I am sure they realize which guys are performing well and which are not. My point was going into the season they both thought Gomez would somehow miraculously turn into a higher OBP guy because his "approach" at the plate was so much better this Spring Training. They wore kid gloves with him and in some weird way seemed as though they owed the starting CF job to a career sub-.300 OBP guy who has never put it together but carried with him so much "promise." Basically, Spring Training fooled them into thinking Gomez was somehow a changed man. "Roenicke and GM Doug Melvin met with Gomez to tell him he was the starting center fielder despite the trade for Morgan." (From that same link I just posted).
  6. 1000% disagree, based on factual statements made on the day of the trade...as I recall. They perceived Morgan as nothing more than bench fodder. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/118738389.html "Things can change during the season but Carlos is our center fielder," said Roenicke. "I think (the trade) adds to the depth on our bench.
  7. So I would assume Melvin actually isn't content with the sucktitude of Betancourt.I'm more in line with the italic portion of the above. If Melvin truly was an OBP-driven guy, there is no way he would a) start the season thinking Gomez was his full-time CF, b) start the season with Betancourt as his full-time SS, and c) keep running McGehee out there at 3b everyday without finding a legitimate replacement for his low OBP.
  8. Yup. Until after the all-star break when the team faces Colorado on Thursday.
  9. And as a result of this, you should expect to then miss the playoffs. Because our roster is not as complete as Cincinnati's or STL's. You need to make more improvements than a "solid bullpen arm" to compete when all is said and done.
  10. Nice FSN shot right there getting Saito in action-mode trying to kill bugs in between his clapping hands.
  11. How did the Reds beat out all of the other teams out there for Chapman's services?
  12. He'll be out of the announcer's box before he knows it....
  13. Must be time for a new personal catcher Or maybe Wolf just isn't that good. I know his ERA is good, but the guy doesn't fool anyone and he seems to nibble a la Doug Davis. Which is brutal baseball to watch.
  14. Why would they blow Cordero here? If they have a save situation tomorrow, he will have to go 3 straight days...
  15. How is Estrada in the major leagues. Look at his career stats...he's terrible.
  16. Just now you realized he was useless? First in the top of the inning he boots a routine ball then lays down an easily played bunt and "runs" like a slug. Trash player.
  17. Reds hitters aren't being fooled by his junkball pitches.
  18. Is it really that surprising that Kotsay is getting all of these starts in LF? It's obvious RR is in love with this guy and it was a joke that some people thought Kotsay was a DFA candidate when Saito was recalled. You don't go from teacher's pet to the detention hall overnight.
  19. Sure. You can look at it as enjoying a Comedy over dinner.
  20. Wake up RR, Wolf is throwing an extra BP session tonight.
  21. Start with the entire bench. Half of the bullpen. Our starting 3B and SS. And go from there...
  22. Not a surprise to anyone who heard KC Royals fan Rob Neyer say after hearing of Yuni's trade to Milwaukee saying something to the affect of the Brewers will be best served as a franchise the sooner they rid themselves of Betancourt. Sounds like a guy who has suffered through many excruciating Yuni AB's and horrible defensive range. He no doubt would agree that Yuni is one of, if not the worst, MLB player.
