Greinke is just average to me. All he is so far is a "name" to me. He's the real #4 pitcher on this staff. The guy is what his 2010 number suggest. Good but not great.
White Sox. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and have a Sox hat to wear around during the summer and particularly during their inter league series vs the Cubs. Mostly, it gives me the opportunity to hate the Cubs from both an AL and NL perspective. The Cubs rule this town even though the White Sox continue to field a better team most years and it is annoying. It all boils down to the Wrigley factor. People love to see and be seen in Wrigleyville and the Cell is in the middle of the ghetto. Cubs will always rule this town and so I cheer for the under-appreciated Sox.
I think Melvin is the one to blame here. Sure we all blame RR because it's easy to do with him filling out the lineup card everyday but Doug makes the personnel decisions and is not replacing him on the roster with someone more competent.
Because he need an excuse as to why Hawkins arm is tired for the next three days so he can pitch Mitre, Dillard, and Estrada in all the tight, late-game situations.
I'm with you. It only unjustifying "justifies" Yuni getting more playing time and allows RR and Melvin to say I told ya so with meaningless stats in blowout games.
Blame it on the crowd that our team can't hit and pitch? If the crowd noise and passion reflected the players outcomes the Marlins would lose every game 0-25.
I give him a C. It's hard to say a team that is in first place is less than average so the manager gets credit for something even if the winning is in spite of him on occasion. A few things bother me about RR: ...sticking with struggling players too long (Scocia school of thought sticking with guys forever no matter the resuts) ...inability to regulate the reckless base running that has run the team out of the inning quite a bit ...bunting to advance runners whenever a man is on 1st regardless of certain inopportune baseball situations ...Loe or Die mentality with the 8th inning ...catering to your number 4 starter's demands to not pitch to your best catcher after saying before the season that no pitcher would have a personal catcher and it's important for the catcher to learn to catch every pitcher ...leaving SP's in the game well past the point of them being effective and blowing games wide open because of it ...not using a LOOGY effectively and making every bullpen pitcher a full inning guy no matter what I'm sure there are more but I still give him a C because of the overall team results. If this team was under .500, his grade would be an F.
You have to believe that Melvin/Ash are now aware that Betancourt is not a good baseball player and they will do everything possible to improve that position by the deadline. The problem is there are not many options out there (see Josh Wilson). Melvin has not done as good of a job as of late finding diamond in the rough talent. The last player that comes to mind is McGehee. Going into next year, the left side of the infield will be a focal point.
Well good to see Alcides coming thru to win it vs STL. Tonight's game doesnt hurt us much now, but sure would've been nice to gain some breathing room over the last few days with the Cards scuffling.
