  1. Argh, you've gotta be kidding me. This team is snakebit right now, no one side is running on the same cylinder.
  2. Jeez, I hope. He's looking tough--at least Prince increased his count a bit there. Let's go, 'pen. Since the offense doesn't seem to be doing too much these days we need the lockdown.
  3. (Surprised TLR let Pineiro bat there) Bravo, Manny, Bravo. Wow, nice! I was really impressed the way he didn't melt down in the 5th. Now, let's get a few more runs, and hold it down for the kid.
  4. I'd be OK with them parting with either Gamel or Escobar as part of a package to get Halladay during this two-year window of opportunity. I'd be devastated to see both go, however. (On another note, reading the comments at MLB Trade Rumors, etc, about this by other fans is always interesting/amusing/infuriating: they want Gamel AND Escobar AND Lawrie AND Salome AND Green AND maybe even Parra or Hart. I can't even imagine.)
  5. The guy is apparently a Cardinals fan (and frankly, those are some truly terrible cartoons, both in terms of awful drawing and unfunny content)...I wouldn't put much weight on this.
  6. Great pitcher photos. Hopefully Manny can get a bounce and handcuff the Cards, who apparently have had a problem providing Piniero run support. I want to love these day games--they should be a nice distraction from work--but the Brewers have really made me hate them this year.
  7. This Oscar Mayer, Oscar G. Mayer, was the namesake of a Hall at Beloit College that was mostly used to show second-run movies in on weekends. He touched my life deeply. Started working for the family business in 1936, years before anyone's bologna had a first name.
  8. Well, my point was that the West Coast travel is a valid variable to consider when a team East of the Missisippi runs into a brick wall against bad teams on the road there. As far as the Pads this year go, you could've said the same thing about that Giants' team in '07. We'll see, they did relatively well out there last season.
  9. Yeah, but in 2007 they got swept in SF by an awful Giants team in late August. That early August West Coast trip has me nervous.
  10. Or at least hold your own against The Man and beat the pants off of Not The Man. They've done a fair job of that this year as long as, yeah, the AL isn't involved. It's those Colorado and Arizona series' that stick in my craw--to be The Man you've got to do better than 2-5 against the likes of them.
  11. Rest in Peace, Oscar.
  12. A lot of Brewers' fans wear plenty of stupid stuff as well (I myself find the "...mows my lawn" shirts racist as well, but to be fair, pretty much all my Cubs' fan friends do, too)...I mostly resent, like BBtS, the specious concept of that dowdied-up rothole being treated as some kind of mystical castle to True Baseball Fans.
  13. I was just taking a look, and it's an absolute gauntlet. Most series are against head-to-head opponents for playoff spots: nine games against the Cardinals (six at new Busch, including the last three of the season), seven against the Cubs (four at Wrigley), a series against the Giants (who aren't going away and will probably have another big bat by then), a series against the Phillies, plus add in series out west in Denver and Phoenix, two days off in 34....UFF DA! Of course, these head-to-heads could be a positive as well. But on paper, it's looking like a tall order. Maybe it's a little early for this thread, but it would seem to increase the importance of burning through those easier-appearing late July and late August stretches like a hot knife through butter and at the least holding our own this week and on the West Coast in August. And heck, knowing it's coming, I'd think the Brewers' performance this month would affect DM's perspective on any potential deals that come across his desk.
  14. Jeez, a lot of middle-school-level cracks up in this thread. I'm as big on immature jokes as anyone, though, I suppose... ANYWAY, due to the internet, guys like Hunt are going the way of the Dodo--why pay to read someone's half-informed opinion (and that is his job, essentially) when there are a sea of them out there? Gamel for Vasquez? Really, Michael?
  15. Especially preceded by "With that said..." He should've ended that sentence by saying "...and that" and winked at the camera. Hope this is the last of this particular dustup.
  16. I'm consistently surprised by how relatively often I see men in libraries looking at hardcore porn. ANYWAY... Right now I'm bugged by the homerism in the Bay Area regarding the Giants right now
  17. Exactly. I can't figure out why people here aren't holding both to the same standard.
  18. Hopefully everyone's learned their lesson and how to handle their role and this episode is over tonight. Soap operas have never turned out well for the Brewers. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/2007/05/22/7kT3PHPJ.jpg
  19. So now people think Melvin should be fired for, in part, defending himself against comments made in the press by said star player. Wow. One day the mob will turn on Braun, too.
  20. I'm not happy with DM saying this to the press, but let's not forget that it was Braun who first called people out to the mat in public. A lot of people here thought it was great then. And no, being "the franchise" doesn't excuse it.
  21. Yep, this is pretty much what happens when someone "tells it like it is."
  22. Playoffs slipping away? It's early July and the Brewers are 1 game back of a playoff spot.
  23. Yeah, I rode the red and blue lines every day, a couple times a day, for 8 years and I never once saw anything near any of that, either, much less any of it happening to me. Is riding the L as safe as sitting in your SUV on 43 north to Mequon? No, probably not. But it's no Robocop movie, either.
  24. No, I don't think that at all, but now Braun has talked about it in the press, and take a look at the reaction it has gotten. The focus from the outside is now squarely on those two guys. Not sure that was really the case 24 hours ago.Everyone everywhere, outside, inside, whatever, was well aware the Brewers could use another starter--and another bat for that matter--before Braun talked about it. Even if they weren't, what is the purpose of BRaun "putting the focus" on them? How is that helpful in any way? Oh, "he tells it like it is"! Woopity-do. There are plenty of times when it pays not to. To be fair, I don't think he was necessarily calling DM or Mark A out.
  25. Well, it's like what Too Live Brew said earlier: do you really think Doug and Mark A weren't aware of the situation before Braun talked about it in the press?
