  1. I've always liked Cedeno and he seemed to be on the upswing...I'm glad to see him out of a Cubs' uniform. It also makes me wonder if any Peavy deal is well and truly dead, or if it's just another pre-cursor.
  2. Since the Rangers seem to only want to give Big Ben a one-year deal, I wonder what, if anything, will prompt them to up it to a 2-year deal, or if they even need to as his "hometown" team and the only one seeming to show true interest. The Brewers likely won't offer two years, and we're not even sure the Mets will offer one (especially with Perez--or even Manny--still in the mix).
  3. Yeah, that raised red flags for me too, since I traveled for those games (it was my 30th birthday; great fun up there, got to see Big Ben beat Halladay, etc) and I remember being pretty excited since it was the first time I'd gotten to see him and Prince play. Anyway, just jokes, it doesn't bother me at all--why would it even if he didn't remember?
  4. I'm really annoyed by the fact that the only time the Brewers play in San Francisco this year is coinciding with their Opening Day series: it has me on edge that I won't get tickets when single-game seats go on sale in a couple weeks; at least the seats my wife and I like right behind the visitor's dugout (we like to splurge when the Crew is here, and it makes all the difference from being in the upper deck, believe me). Seats in those sections behind the visitors' dugout are already up to $400 a pop on the low end on Stub Hub!
  5. I was going to write this, too, but I didn't want to tempt the fates. It could be worse.
  6. Good luck Jim, I rarely listened to any games online last year, but the years prior the online radio broadcasts were the way I followed the games, and I got to really enjoy your work.
  7. And I'd argue that Sheets hardly gets "cut...so much slack" around here.
  8. Pushy salespeople working on commission getting dumped as a concept versus this situation where a baseball broadcaster took what could have been a slightly higher offer to work in his hometown Yeah, I just don't see it.
  9. Ah, I guess that makes sense. Kind of bizarre, though, one of two pairings you have to pay for. I wonder why they didn't just pair Coffey and Morlan together for free.
  10. I have no interest in autographs, even for free. That said, I'd pay $15 to get into the event itself, depending on the activities. I went to a Rays event nine years ago, and got to sit in on some Q-and-As with Larry Rothschild and Chuck LaMar, their then-manager and GM, and it was worth it just to watch them get grilled. I assume the Brewers have similar events. Anyway, I'm wondering just who pays $10 for Todd Coffey's autograph, no offense to the seeker or Todd. If I'm a casual autograph seeker, I'm definitely going for guys like Gamel and Salome who are free and could develop to big contributors down the line.
  11. Yeah, to me, this would be like someone born and raised in New York City becoming a fan of the New Jersey Nets I guess he's not really alienating too many people based on attendance, but it just strikes me as strange since OC seems like a completely separate, valid market to me.
  12. Glad to hear you're doing well, SM
  13. It was my understanding that the Rangers probably didn't even have the budget. I guess I'm frustrated by what seems to be soap opera-esque aspects of this; it seems there's something personal about all this.
  14. Wow, that is a great story.
  15. Saw it a couple weeks back here in SF...definitely worth digging up online if you can't get it in your 'hood
  16. Well, now I'm really curious...THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, homer Jokes aside, I think the government should keep news like that from the public as long as safely possible, but like alluded too, there is no way for it to ever be truly kept secret.
  17. I'm not sure why Melvin doesn't go out there with Macha and meet up with Mark A (sorry for the alliteration) to go talk with Hoffman. How much are plane tickets, c'mon
  18. One bit of good news (in my eyes) is that the Astros look to be done for the off-season. I'd assumed that was a strong possible destination for him, and I was dreading the idea of the Brew Crew playing him with regularity next year.
  19. Yeah, when I saw that, my eyes popped out of my head. All this talk about the appeal of Milwaukee aside, given the situation with Hoffman's home being on the West Coast and the Dodgers being the competition, you had to think the Brewers would need to pay a premium to get Hoffman here.
  20. Disappointing...this would have made life easier in other areas, especially if Big Ben does indeed sign elsewhere.
  21. The last few flights I've taken the flight attendants have mentioned GPS systems as the "portable electronics" that could be turned on at 10,000 feet, so I assume as such, but I'd check with the airline. One of my favorite parts about JetBlue and Virgin America is the built-in GPS systems on your screen--pretty addictive to check on
  22. Welcome to the dark side, sir.
  23. At risk of sounding like a MP parking lot soak, stuff like this is a big reason I like living in cities with large public transportation systems and cab fleets
  24. Just so you know, bobble, Fantasy is an, uh, "adult" show. No offense, Paul, but not a particularly great one in my opinion at least (although the dancers are all cute and it had a pretty good comedian, so it's not terrible). If you're looking for that kind of thing, the Jubilee! show at Bally's is real top-notch old-school Vegas and has higher production values, including some old-school Vegas showgirl costumes. As far as other stuff goes, I definitely second LOVE at the Mirage...my favorite Cirque show by a long shot since I'm a big Beatles fan. Even if you're not, it's still great. I also like their O at the Bellagio and Mystere at TI. Le Reve right there in the Wynn is also great. As far as "legit" theatre goes, I've got a couple friends working the Phantom show at The Venetian, so I'm partial to that (it's way trimmed down and has cooler effects than the Broadway version, so even Manly Men can put up with it for a while if it interests the lady in their life). I liked the Spamalot in town there, but it closed for Danny Gans, I believe. Man, this thread and all the cheap flights there in January have me wanting to go now.
