  1. Guys, the parallels are there: http://www.baseball-refer...es/BAL/BAL198210030.shtml Let's have the same result.
  2. Saw. Saw. SAW! My pre-vent is crummy grammar. Anyway, my vent is all the embarrassing rants about Piniella after today's game. He rested almost his entire starting lineup!
  3. I'm excited and nervous but at peace.
  4. Absolutely not; the Cubs rested pretty much every one of their offensive starters today. Come on guys, let's not let these grapes get too sour. We've got tomorrow.
  5. I thought I'd break out of my self-imposed exile to post in this topic since I've had "Three Lions '98", England's World Cup '98 theme song, in my head all week. Really inspirational in the way it celebrates a team and stands up to a murky past: You'd need to change the lyrics a bit....: Barley sprig on my shirt Warren Giles' still gleaming No more years of hurt No more need for dreaming Of course, hopefully the season ends better for the Brew Crew than it did for England in 1998's Cup!
  6. Just wanted to pop my head in real quick and say thank you all for your kind words. Looking back at tossing the chair it's kind of funny since it's so ridiculous but I'm mostly embarrassed that I let something affect my emotions so much that, while a big long-time enjoyment and passion of mine, is ultimately inconsequential in most ways to my life. That said, there's no way I can go cold-turkey on the ole Brew Crew and I probably shouldn't try (heck, I'm looking at a framed print of the Pollard Portrait of the 1987 team on my office wall as I write this!). I'll still be checking the scores after the games, and lurking here now and again the next couple weeks or months, but for a while anyway I'm backing away from suctioning in as much news and opinion I can about the team, much less watching the games themselves on pins and needles. My grandpa tapes the Packers' games on his old VCR--if they win, he watches them, if he doesn't, he tapes over it. He gave up treating it as life-and-death a long time ago. Not the worst idea.
  7. So, I threw a chair at door tonight after stewing a few minutes after Blanco's RBI PH and smashed the door. It's gonna cost an arm and a leg and my wife is extremely upset with me on a number of levels. That's not like me, and I don't want it to be like me. Obviously the Brewers aren't responsible for any underlying temper problems I discovered I apparently have, but getting wrapped up in these guys obviously isn't helping. Following this team is not reality and I shouldn't be letting it bother me this much. Anyway, as such, I'm packing it in the rest of the regular season in hopes of avoiding the irrational causation of what's obviously an anger issue (I mean, normal people don't toss furniture, no matter how long they've been disappointed by a team). I hope there are playoffs to come back for, but I'll most likely see you guys in a couple months when I get a grip. Have fun--that's what it's supposed to be.
  8. I'm ready to put my fist through some drywall right now
  9. Yeah, take the Yellow to Howard and transfer to the Red line, get off at Addison and voila. I remember me and a bunch of other current/former Chicagoans got into a great old fart-esque argument about the "best way" to get there but that's a good no frills way to get there. Have fun, I hope this year's game is better for you and for us.
  10. Yeah, I won't be pleased if I know he'd been leaned on by a certain someone to stick around despite his health, although I know that's a heck of an accusation.
  11. I actually don't mind "owner meddling" (and God forbid they'd want some say in their investment) as long as the payoff is more along the lines of a Steinbrenner or a Jerry Jones and not a Dan Snyder or a late-era Al Davis. (I also think it's kind of strange that people are mentioning an eventual move in this thread, but that's another story) I agree with a previous poster that the timing of this move probably doesn't go over very well with the "managing fraternity" as it were, but 1) Steinbrenner pulled stuff like that for years and never had a problem getting "top name" guys, which leads to 2) when have the Brew Crew ever gotten "top name" games anyway?
  12. I just liked the rhyming cadence of BREW CREW TOAST YOST, NAME SVEUM
  13. We had a playoff run last year, led by a veteran manager whose team ended up choking a big lead away and then failed to take advantage of a last week fade by the Cubs. The same veteran manager who was leading this team the last few weeks of this year's playoff run while we lost 11 of 14 and choked away a 4.5 game lead. I don't think the Brewers make the playoffs this year regardless of who's in the driver's seat, but I'm not fretting Sveum's lack of experience (his judgment may be another story).
  14. Wow, if that is true that is crazy.http://chelsearialtostudios.com/maxsteinerpages/caine_mutiny_1sh.jpg Captain Queeg, indeed.
  15. As much as I appreciate this post, we all know how that movie ended. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  16. Meaning he's sitting at home watching MLB games on Extra Innings?
  17. I can see Mark A and Robin over beers in his suite last night: "Yeah, so we're canning Ned tomorrow. Wanna come along for this roller-coaster ride for a coupla weeks?"
  18. As the World Turns. Jeez. If the Brewers somehow make the playoffs now, with Yost getting canned as the team is still technically in the Wild Card lead with two weeks to go and then being led onwards to victory against the odds by The Easter Sunday Hero and The Greatest Brewer of All-Time, this could officially be the craziest Brewers story ever, right up there with the '87 win streak and the win against the Orioles in '82. It's way up there already.
  19. Our nation's headline writers have really failed me, not once today have I seen "BREW CREW TOAST YOST, NAME SVEUM"
  20. I hear Attanasio gave him an honorable samurai death, swift across the nape of the neck.
  21. Little Lord Fontenot over at NSBB had an interesting suggestion: Pat Listach
  22. Front loaded with 92 wins in 92 for Garner and end loaded with Yost having his best season in 08! Yeah, that's what I found especially interesting about it.
  23. Interesting tidbit in TH's blog about the records of Brewers' management over the years: Phil Garner 1992-'99 563-617 .477 Ned Yost 2003-'08 457-502 .477
  24. Yeah, I'm a little disappointed that Ned ended up not being what I hoped just for the '82 connection alone. But I'd rather have a playoff team here managed by Joaquin Andujar or Sammy Sosa than an underachiever managed by Robin Yount or Paul Molitor. Anyway, I think it'll be Valentine.
  25. The last time the Expos made the playoffs, yikes. Bad karma!
