  1. On one hand, I'm enjoying the hot heaping dish of schaedenfraude; on the other, this latest spineless choke-act is just gonna add to the self-martyrdom that makes them so insufferable. Don't we get it? The suffering of 24 year old Cubs' fans is so much deeper than other people's! : Breast-beating ahoy.
  2. I still can't get over this. This was the second best hitting team in baseball this season and the fifth best pitching, with the best run differential by a country mile Yeah, yeah: short series, etc etc.-- This was a straight-up choke job by the best team in the National League.
  3. Lord help me but I am feasting upon immature unjustified schaedenfraude right now. Might keep me fed all winter.
  4. We like 'em real thick and juicy up Milwaukee way: Prince, CC, McClung, Gagne, Nelson... A bunch of scrawns will be watching our big boys play tomorrow on their way to the golf course: Fonzie Soriano, DLee, Theriot, Harden et cetera et cetera
  5. A heartening game from the bats, and yeah, the crowd sounded awesome on TV--best all year, up and loud from pitch one. What a change from the "corporate crowd" at Wrigley. Some great camera work, too--I love seeing blimp shots of MP, especially that great shot through the glass after Gagne ended the 8th and the crowd went wild. I have to admit that with bases loaded and no outs in the 9th, all I could think was "Yeeeeeep, yep yep yep yep yep," Al Molinaro from Happy Days-style. "What a fitting way for the Brewers' season to end." Nothing else to say that hasn't been said--I'm glad that Dave Bush found his niche in Brewers' lore and that the much-maligned pen has been gaining its own redemption. Not bad at all, 11 innings. And counting...
  6. I have no problem with it. Whose expectations were higher than the sun and whose chest-thumping rang like gongs? Not the NL Central team that will still be competing in a playoff Game 4 tomorrow.
  7. "GOD IS JUST AND THEY NEVER WILL KNOW PEACE" I cannot wait for the first Cub fan--whether it be yuppie Big Ten grad with frosted tips or obese mook from Schaumburg--to get in my grill about the Brewers next year.
  8. Pretty great: the Brewers are on the blink of elimination, and all day tomorrow there's gonna be "DRunk Thread 6" with that little truck next to it on the front page http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. As a Bucs' fan on the West Coast, I'm more than OK with the gametime. Last week was tough (any Bucs-Packers game is prime trash talk fodder for my family--mostly Pack fans--and I) but theer was no way I was gonna miss that Brewers' game. I just hope we get to see a Game 4.
  10. Another winner from Bring Back the Stein. I have to admit, as I watched the Manifest Destiny unfold last night I thought of this BBtS gem from last September: That DLee booted ball had The Feel written all over it. Dempster giving up the granny to Loney had The Feel. I wonder how Harden's elbow is feeling.
  11. At least Lou said he's taking out Fukudome...Sveum's said no such thing about Corey
  12. I heard it too. Strange, strange, strange. "Groan of boos" is such a poetic and eerie way of putting it. It was low, steady and non-stop pretty much from the 2nd inning on. Maybe it was a combination of the fans' negative energy mixed with the echoes of Cubs' chokes of the past combining to create a ghastly white noise blanketing the horror being displayed at the Friendly Confines tonight.
  13. We've got problems of our own; why rub Cubs' fans noses in it now? Yeah, I know much more pressure is on that team, but still. At any rate, I have to think they've just gotta be absolutely collapsing under the gigantic burden on them; I think traveling 2000+ miles from the Friendly Confines and that heavy air of expectation in Chicago will do them some good and they'll play much looser. It's dire, but Harden, Lilly and Dempster with the best-hitting team in the NL could be a worse situation to be in. If they can bring it back to Chicago and win a Game 5 in that kind of situation, I think they're unstoppable. As bad as they've looked, it's not over yet.
  14. Hart is actively hurting this team right now
  15. Of course, if CC wins today, the possibility of a series win gets much larger as well.
  16. I'm actually much more nervous today I don't have many expectations for the playoffs themselves so I won't be incredibly disappointed with a NLDS loss, but I don't want to get swept and if CC loses today the way is paved
  17. Balfour has been solid pretty much the entire season, though, that's the big difference All the same, I'm glad that the "BallFour" for "McDung" trade has paid dividends for both teams
  18. The sausage thing doesn't bother me one bit, although I don't find it particularly funny. I think most people don't realize that we see the sausage races as goofy, somewhat self-deprecating fun. As far as Philly fans go, they've always been awful, even on the road--I went to a Bears-Eagles game a few years back and they were absolutely insufferable. I think they want to live up to some kind of tough guy act but mostly they just strike me as clowns.
  19. Sweet, sweet schaedenfraude always eases the pain I agree that Lou got straight-up out-classed by Torre tonight. If Big Z is the Big Z he most often has been recently, the Cubs are in big trouble. The pressure on those players must be absolutely crushing.
  20. Well, this game gives me hope the Brewers can at least make a series of it...I think it was much tighter than it seemed and will seem in light of Hamels' work today.
  21. Like someone else said elsewhere here, I almost feel like the Brewers are playing with house money in the playoffs. I'm not nervous at all.
  22. I think we have a winner here.
  23. I grew up in Sarasota as a Brewers fan and attended many a (Devil) Rays' game (I must admit I even own an Aki Iwamura t-shirt and a cap or two) so the Rays are definitely my number two. I've decided I won't be upset if the Cubs win it all--I think this is the year they do it and I've got way too many Cubs fan friends to be totally disgusted although I think I will always resent much of their smug fanbase and self-congratulatory culture and cocky players and Ron Santo and Len Casper and Wrigley Field troughs and oh what am I saying--anyone but the Cubs, please. Red Sox are a close #7. 3. White Sox 4. Dodgers 5. Angels 6. Phillies
