  1. I agree--I think the difference is that there is inherent joy in those other celebrations; the posing and walking just strikes me as pridefulness. That said, I've gotta repeat that I don't think it's the worst thing ever, nor does it make Braunie or Hall a terrible guy, and that any self-righteous outrage about it is over-the-top.
  2. I still don't particularly care for what Braun did tonight but on a night where a Cubs' farmhand threw a ball into an opposing team's dugout and ended up putting a fan in the hospital instead, it's hard to argue about "class" and "emotion" for a few seconds worth of staring.
  3. Yeah, they did a great job picking out just the right images...I love the look of confusion and longing on Prince's face as he stares at the CC Dog The Onion has more than its fair share of Brewers' references. You can take the paper out of Wisconsin but you can't take the Wisconsin out of the paper.
  4. And, what, that means it's OK for etiquette and class to go out the window? No it means your little comment about coaching your son in little league has nothing to do with this Sure does. If you think that there's "nothing wrong" with a pause to watch and then a rooster strut to start a home run trot, as you've said repeatedly, then that's not the brand of sportsmanship I'd want imparted on a child of mine.
  5. And, what, that means it's OK for etiquette and class to go out the window?
  6. You don't get it. That's fine. I just hope you never coach my kid in Little League.
  7. Showing emotion is clapping to yourself and maybe even letting out a whoop or two as you round the bases with your head down to go high-five your teammates in the dugout. Flinging your bat, pausing to watch, and then walking into a jog is rubbing the other team's nose in it. One is classy, the other isn't. If you don't see the difference I don't know what to tell you.
  8. There's a difference between "showing emotion" or celebrating and drawing attention to yourself or showboating or showing up the pitcher. I'm not saying it's the most classless thing I've ever seen or the end of the world or it makes Ryan a bad person or anything, but I don't agree that there's nothing wrong with it and I wish he and Hall wouldn't do it.
  9. I don't understand how that is a reason it's OK. It was rather bush league in my opinion, but it was an in-the-moment reaction to a huge homerun. I just hope it doesn't become habit. Heck, even Joe Carter didn't watch his Series-winner that long.
  10. Didn't Aramis Ramirez stop to admire what ended up being a double last year?
  11. I can't stand when Pujols or Aramis Ramirez or Alfonso Soriano do it, so I wish our guys would give me some moral high ground to whine upon! That said, I do prefer game-winning homeruns to moral victories.
  12. http://images.usatoday.com/weather/_photos/2007/01/03/d0butchweddingcrashdcov14.jpg Who ARE those guys?
  13. Let the Cubs win tonight, their day of reckoning is coming.
  14. I never stopped loving the guy but I don't think the fans owe him one (although I disagreed with the actual level of the booing)...I'm not sure he's asking for one, either, really.
  15. Preferably starting with one in the first inning this evening

  17. Too much in my opinion, especially Pena.
  18. "Ball driven deep to right!" "Baseballs are in flight" etc etc
  19. Yeah, I paid before the season and got it for $160...definitely worth it. We'll see what they make us pay next year but unless it's a 100% increase, I'll almost certainly get it again.
  20. Agreed, that usually is the difference between me checking in on the Cubs at length or not. Now that the race is heating up I'm going to be watching a lot more of other teams' games...before I would watch stuff like Dodgers-Padres or Mariners-Orioles just for the novelty. (A lot of Rays games, too.) Heck, even if I lived in Wisconsin I might've just gotten the second-half package for that alone. At any rate, I thought it was $160 well spent...I just wish we got those pre-and post-game shows but I understand all the issues (Trenni seemed surprised when I told her yesterday that us EI viewers don't actually get to see those shows)
  21. A few from this weekend http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/SeriesFinale75/IMG_5060.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/SeriesFinale75/IMG_5066.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/SeriesFinale75/IMG_5074.jpg
  22. She was actually very friendly, stopped and talked with us for quite a few minutes which is more than this drunken bum deserved...I think that's just her TV smile I like the shirt; good fit and I get a lot of people asking about it
