Jackson Chourio, Andrew Vaughn Return To Brewers' Lineup
jay87shot replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I guess it depends on if what you value more. I think Black has the edge as a pinch runner and better OF defense but Bauers has more power and 1B defense. With that Bauers is probably more important but Black has closed the gap the last week or so. I would probably just keep both until Yeli is back, Leonard is the only option in my book to swap with Black and that would cost someone a 40 man spot which isn't worth it. -
Brewers (Patrick) vs Cardinals (Leahy): 5/4/26, 6:45pm
jay87shot replied to Brandon Glick's topic in Archived Game Threads
Maybe Lockridge gets some run in center or right as well vs. lefties at least. -
Agreed, what is amazing is that Mitchell has yet to play 100 games in any season and around 100 the past 2 years combined. I would expect that he is going to need multiple adjustments throughout the season and we should hopefully see the real genuine Mitchell later in the year. If he is a league average hitter now who if taking really high walks hopefully when he gets that strikeout rate down to a bearable level he will be great. Worst case for me is that Lara pushes him out of CF by midseason and he battles Sal for RF playing time.

I am a little worried he didn't hit much in AAA, with Black and Bauers holding 1B down I would have given him a couple more rehab starts. That being said it is super exciting to get a quality bat back in the lineup especially with how much we have struggled with lefties. Hopefully Chourio can be back later in the week and our lineup will be looking much better.

They way I look at it is that in a couple months I don't expect the bullpen to be an issue but SS/3B probably will even if Pratt or Williams get a call up I don't see them being world burners right away. I think our 1B depth is great, Vaughn is back today, we have Bauers and Black looking like capable everyday players and still Adams, Burke, and probably Wilken as upper minors options later in the year. I don't think we would get a ton but if we traded Bauers (again like a month or two down the line) I don't think we lose anything having Black take his place. Trading guys for max value is the Brewers way, I bring up the idea of possibly trading Megill becuase we have seen desperate teams way overpay for power arms with closing potential mid-season almost every year. We have also seen our organization find/make guys who can rise to the occasion in late innings. We have Uribe, Ashby as proven late innings guys with Hall and Anderson as solid mid inning guys. There are plenty of guys like Fitzpatrick, Koenig, Yoho, Drohan, Gasser, (I think on of Gasser/Drohan could be move to the bullpen, especially if Hall earns a late inning spot) Childers, Holub, Rob Z, and others who could have some late innings potential that it would make trading Megill plausible. I wouldn't trade him any time soon but this is the Brewers way explore trades and see if anyone give surplus value.

I think Murphy got had today. He put a bunch of lefties later in the lineup to avoid the opener. The opener goes 2 and gets those lefties, then the right only has to go 3 plus and another lefty gets 2 innings. I dont like Turang taking days of, he is our best bat and should be playing everyday. We have had some weak lineups on Sundays with Murph resting guys.

Looks like McGee back to Nashville for Henderson. I think this is a great place for Henderson to grab hold of a starting spot and have some staying power. He has been great in AAA and there is good matchup vs. Washington here. Hopefully Woody can get right fairly quickly and maybe that would be a good time for a 6 man rotation for a bit or Sproat to AAA for some refining.

Its great to see all those season/professional debuts go so well. Seeing Knoth, Thompson, and Morrison really puts a positive spin on a few of our beerer bats going through some mini slumps.

I would guess it would be a pretty penny to get Muni. The Sox's are a young team and he is going to draw fans there. They should have money to extend him longer than 2027. I would say they would ask for Pena, Henderson, and a good 3 piece (or 2 smaller pieces).
-
Agree, when he came in I kind of was thinking he would throw 3 or 4 and then get demoted just to replenish the bullpen. However he likely pitched his way into keeping the 26 man spot for the time being. He did enough that everyone outside of himself and Fitz probably. I really like Mitchell leading off yesterday. It really doesn't make a difference if leadoff pops out, grounds, or strikes-out so his strikeout issues are lessened. Later in the game if they bring in a lefty it is easy to pinch hit. Looking for a big start from Misi.

Running 2026 MLB Draft Thread
jay87shot replied to wiguy94's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
MLB.com put out a new top 150 for the draft. Its alway interesting to see updates. Here are some players I think could be of interest that aren't 1st rounders. #98 OF Will Gasparino UCLA 6'6" power bat putting up a very solid .337/.442/.712 with 18 HR (only 5 2B). MLB gives him a 55 run (only 2 sb) 55 arm, and 55 feild. For a second round pick to save $ or a 3rd rounder that sounds solid. #99 C Carson Tinney Texas 6'4" 240 catcher usually move positions. Like Gasparino the bat is really good .338/.487/.723 16 HR. He seems like a bigger version of Dinges which would clearly be good value 2nd round or later. #102 C Sean Dunlap (Indy Hs) A bigger catcher prospect with solid tools across the board. I will admit it is the Indiana HS prospect that catches my eye with the success Ginger Paulson has had. #89 P/SS Cole Koeninger I am always a bit to high on 2 way players. But he looks like a potential power bat maybe a bit in the mold of Bitonti or an upside young athletic pitcher. #87 P Ryan Lynch He seems to have underachieved (vs. expectations) this year at UNC but his stuff sounds good) mid 90's power sinker, good depth mid 80's slider that if he doesn't develop a 3rd pitch he should be a really good reliever. -
I feel bad for Woody, there can't be a situation where he doesn't miss an extended portion after that. Lots of work to get back, last year he had the injury as things were going good and now the same thing. When is Henderson scheduled to start, it should be an easy replacement maybe just move everyone back a day depending on where he slots in. Anderson for an inning or two and then Drohan (could just take Woody's rotation spot as well).

If Megill gets it back together and can put together a couple good months what are thoughts on trading him. I would guess his value isn't what it could have been. If he can get the ERA under 4 there should be really good demand for a flamethrower with 1.5 years of control and closer experience. Would we just want to keep him, we have a lot on the IL so predicting the shape of the bullpen in July is tricky. Would there be any interest in our 1B depth? I could see a world where someone would want Bauers, Black, or Vaughn if all are playing well in a month or so. Note: I would be looking for a mlb upgrade at SS/3B or more controllable reliever as a main piece back in a trade.

Brewers Minor League Link Report (4/29) Jett Takes Flight
jay87shot replied to Ben Lepak's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
O'Rae has 17 sb in 23 games (21 starts), that puts him on pace for 102 steals in a 138 game season. Obviously he would need to continue his torrid pace getting on base and would likely get a promotion. However that pace is noteworthy.- 4 replies

Video: The Most Underrated Brewers Prospect
jay87shot replied to Cory Sparks's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
He is starting to get some top 100 buzz. https://www.mlb.com/news/top-100-prospects-candidates-2026 He is on pace for 20-30 HR and 50-60 SB, I doubt he keeps the power up but if he hit even 15 his 30 grade power turns into 45 or 50 and that makes him highly valuable. I probably would put him at the 3-7 range in our org. right now after the hot start. I would probably put his grade at 55 contact, 45 power, 65 speed, 65 feilding, 60 arm. If he can stay solid with the bat for a couple more weeks 60 contact, 50 power is probably logical. Those grades would be pretty comparable to Luis Pena if not better and at 21 in AAA he has youth on his side. He should be one of the fastest rising prospects in mid-season rankings in my opinion. Josh A and Payne could be in a similar boat. -
I think alot will depends on how Vaughn, Bauers, Adams, and Burke play this year. If Bauers is just ok, I like Black in the Bauers role next year. If Vaughn if rough I could see Black getting a chance to take over 1B. However if Burke and Adams both take off I think both have more potential at this point and make next year more interesting. It is good to see there being some path for him.

I think to a point when cutter is you main pitch you just won't see a ton of strikouts. He was always a slightly over 9 k's/9 guy but this year has clearly not been the same. I think some it can be attributed towards getting some early weak contact, some is that the league probably adjusted a little bit to him, and some is that he is off a bit with control. I though last year he was great at backdooring that cutter and haven't seen that as much.
-
I would guess that he sticks around at least until Yeli is back. At that point there will probably be enough proof one way or another to keep him as a 5th OF/backup DH/occasional 1b/and mostly pinch hitter. Who knows what the injury situation looks like at that point. With 5 hits in the last 2 games he should play everyday for a week until Vaughn and Chourio are back. I would think Jones and Perkins get sent down when they get back if Black is hitting well still.
-
It's great to see Thompson and Morrison getting assigned hopefully we will see them soon. Obviously the same for Chourio and Vaughn. That Wilson offense is so rough. I would contend that the org. should probably draft a bunch of college bats in the 5-10th round this year just to supplement that level.

Somehow I missed us signing Desmond Ridder....... I was confused when reading that last post. I am actually really good with him as the backup. He was 6-7 with a pretty bad 2023 Falcons team at a 24. Is he perfect, not by a long shot, however as a backup for a couple games he is solid. I think depth is fine across the board but if we have 30 million to spend I would go get a vet offensive line man, corner, or pass rusher.

I don't remember who runs the prospect rankings thread but it would be fun to run one and see how high the community is on all the bats off to good or bad starts.

Pratt was better last week after a weird start to his season with the contract, Jett has been inconsistent. I am saying if either is good for the next week or two I think serious thought has to be put into a change. Both do have OBP around .330 and at least for Pratt he has more bb than K's which should pull some weight. Yes, neither look good as call-ups today but if either can even show a sign of being going the right direction it should be considered. In April, Joey is hitting .128/.212/.128. even by old school pitchers hitting standards that is bad.
-
I would agree that was the plan but I don't think we can wait until mid-season. Jett and Cooper for sure need some more time but Joey has been so bad I don't think we should wait another 2 months. Especially since there rest of the division has been so good. Leonard hasn't really played SS or 3B this year or last so he probably isn't an option. I wouldn't force the issue but just am struggling to see Joey turning it around.

What do we do with him? That bat has been epically bad after a first week that was pretty good. The defense is solid as always but if the organization is sold on Cooper Pratt being the long-term SS (evident by the contract) I don't see much need for Joey to be a utility guy. Jett and Hamilton will likely be better utility options and if we have solid defense at the infield spots we won't need a defense specialist. Between Leonard, Cooper, and Jett his spot will be likely gone soon if he doesn't get it together. Is there any value at all in a trade? I don't know if he has an option left but something needs to be done relatively fast.
