Bob is talking about how the Phillies fired Gerardi because they thought the talent was better than their record. I don't think that' the case here: the recent bad record is indicative of the talent, at least with the bat.

I'm glad I was unable to catch all of this (yet another) disappointing loss. Crunch all the fancy obscure analytics you want . But the only sure thing is that the team that scores the most runs will win. You have to hit when it counts. E.g., Yelich 0-4 with a walk is nothing when it counts,

I get it, But that doesn't change the fact that our lineup doesn't seem to scare anyone (except us). I think Yelich gets walks because opposing teams know they don't really have to pitch to him.

I tend to attribute some magical mysterious gift of wonderful "fundamental" baseball to the Cards. Totally irrational. It makes this game fun as I see my delusions debunked.
