  1. I got my thank you for entering email just now, bummer.
  2. If the Bucks make the playoffs with this roster, is Skiles the coach of the year?? He took an opening roster that was projected at best to win about 35 games and finish no better than 11th in the East (at least the predictions I saw). He then lost his best scorer in Michael Redd for the season, along with having his best post player in Bogut miss a huge chunk of the season with a back injury. I know he probably won't win it, but I'm hard pressed to find a better coaching job than that to this point in the season.
  3. That's some good work....one of these days I'll need to go through there for something. The Hot Wing/Blue Cheese Doritos were awesome. I agree, they need to return as well.
  4. I'm hoping that someone, anyone on the board can help me. My friends and I (mainly me) became moderately addicted to Lays Hickory BBQ Wavy Potato Chips. Not sure if anybody else has ever had them, but I think they're incredibly good. About 18 months ago, they started disappearing from grocery stores in the Milwaukee area. I ran into a Lay's vendor one day and asked him about them and he indicated to me that he thought they were being discontinued due to lack of selling. They were replaced in most stores by Dill Pickle chips (which sounds gross to me). This was extremely disappointing to me but what can you....they don't make them any more..... This was all fine and dandy until I went to Houston a couple of weeks back. Happened to stroll through Walmart for something and there they were, in all their glory....an entire stand of them. Just sitting there. I promptly purchased some but you can't really bring them home on an airplane so my excitement was short-lived. However, it showed that they definitely were NOT discontinued. I called some more stores around here and got nowhere. The chips are still made, yet not carried anywhere I can find them in this area. Here's where I need help. Does anyone know of any stores (grocery, gas station, anything) in the metro Milwaukee area that still sells them? Or know of a wholesaler or something where I could buy a case of them? I tried going through Lay's directly but have gotten no responses. Yes, this is very sad that I'm going to these measures for potato chips but I thought I'd give it a whirl. Here's a link to what the bag looks like: http://www.fritolay.com/o...ays-wavy-hickory-bbq.html
  5. Marq shot 4-24 from 3 point land and 10-23 from the line.....and then to top it off, missed 2 from within 3 feet in the last 2 seconds. Hayward's was just point blank and had a chance to save a terrible game from them...and didn't. I wonder how far this hurts, all the talk about how they're overrated is going to look great right now (though I think that's wrong).
  6. I've never done a keeper league in baseball before, what's a good number of players that each team gets to keep? 3? 5? Any rules as to how long? I can setup a second league (if you guys are ok with Yahoo that is) but I don't know the best parameters for keeper leagues in fantasy baseball.
  7. Kinda makes you wonder what the Brewers would even say if he called up and wanted to resign with us for a 1 year deal. Every day that passes makes me think that maybe it's the Brewers, and not necessarily Ben Sheets that doesn't want to continue their relationship. All along I've felt that Sheets felt disrespected by the Brewers and had no interest in returning. But it just makes no sense to me....unless that elbow is going to fall apart and it's really clear to everyone, you would think someone would make an acceptable 1 year offer.
  8. Seems like there's a lot of interest (myself included)...should we just start a second league?
  9. Anyone else think the Badgers are the Green Bay Packers of college basketball? Enough talent to win games, close in every single game....yet find a way to lose it. A bad break, fluke play, bad officiating and we lose a close game. Tonight it was the non-call foul/technical foul on Wisconsin that swung the game (though we still could have won in OT), last week against Minn it's a miraculous comeback. Just seems like we just saw this entire season unfold in the NFL.
  10. Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't the Brewers only reduce his salary by 20% from last year? Meaning we'd have to pay him 8 million next season. I think that rule gets waived if the player is signed after May 15th but I'm sure somone else will snap him up with a 2-3 million a year contract. If it were only 2-3 million, I'd be happy to have him back as he pitched great down the stretch and I don't think he's nearly as bad as he was in the first half of the season.
  11. One that I thought was pretty quick and clever in a matter of seconds actually came from a Cubs broadcast. I have no idea who it was, but I want to say it was Skip Caray. It was on Opening Day and the Brewers turned a 5-4-3 Triple Play against the Cubs (the last one we've turned I think)? The announcer said something about the play as it happened, and then said "And it's a triple play on Opening Day, how about that??". I just remember thinking at the time that it was pretty sweet to get a good line, one that ryhmes even, into a broadcast. Especially for a situation/play that doesn't happen all that often.
  12. Thought I'd pull this one back out as the Bucks have been playing well lately and are back to 14-16. Some interesting developments today: 1. Damon Jones is reporting to the team. Not sure what the whole situation was but he can't hurt. He's a very good 3 point shooter at the very least. I didn't really understand the timing of it all until I found this on cnnsi this morning. 2. It is believed the Bucks have an offer on the table from the Los Angeles Lakers for Tyronn Lue, with the Bucks receiving veteran big man Chris Mihm in return. There have also been rumors that Lue could be dealt to Oklahoma City, perhaps as part of a package deal with teammate Charlie Villanueva. That would make a lot of sense....Jones replaces Lue (who never plays and is terrible in my opinion) and Chris Mihm brings a solid rebounder and defender to the post, which we really only have 1 of in Bogut. Interesting...
  13. I posted in the Yankees/Texiera thread and noticed that I was on post #499. This got me to thinking about my next post, #500. I realize that many, many people on here are way, way over this number, but I wanted to post on it anyway. I've been a member of brewerfan.net for a long, long time...almost 7 years now (joined on 02/05/02). I stumbled across it while bored out of my mind working in the computer lab during college and have been hooked ever since. In fact, I even bought a brewerfan.com tshirt (yes, I said .com) because I liked the site so much. I hardly ever post (as evidence that it took 7 years for me to reach 500 posts) but I've spent literally weeks of my life reading threads on here, everything from video games, to snowy weather, oh, and of course, Brewers baseball and everything that goes with it. I started thinking about the last 7 years worth of reading/posting and realized just how important BF is to me...I posted on here for advice about asking the gf's parents permission for marriage (she said yes by the way), for help with autographing seeking, college classes, tickets and just about everything else I can think of. I've only met a handful of you in person but I've known that whatever question I have (even the stupid ones) would always be answered on BF... couple that along with the great baseball knowledge and resources available here and it's easy to see how BF has become a staple of my life. Rarely do more than a few hours go by that I come here to see what's going on - in all of the forum threads (wow, that sounds sad, lol). When I finally popped the question and got the "yes" answer, I told her that I had posted on here for advice, and she said "Doesn't surprise me, for awhile I thought you liked that site more than me"...or something along those lines. I have no idea what the purpose of this thread is, and it's kinda gotten long and lame, but I wanted to just take a moment on my 500th post to thank everyone that makes this site possible - all of your hardwork and dedication really has made a significant, positive impact on my life. And thanks to everyone who has talked baseball with me, given me advice or traded me an autograph or bobblehead, the BF experience wouldn't be the same without all of the hundreds (or is it thousands now?) of great people who post here. And while I hope that the next 500 posts don't take 7 years, I have no doubt that those 500 will be as enjoyable and fun as the first 500!
  14. I'm going to try to be as board-friendly as possible in this post, as I really don't need a strike against me, but I'm feeling really, really unhappy at this moment. It has nothing to do with the fact that one of the players they signed was a Brewer or the fact that we kind of got the shaft with the draft pick compensation...I'm more mad about the state of baseball in general. When one team goes out and spends approximately 450 million on 3 players, which are arguably the top 3 free agents available, the system is flawed. Couple that with the facts that a. the Yankees never lose ANYONE to free agency and b. the fact that these 2 signings give the Yankees the 4 highest paid players in the entire league (ARod, Jeter, Texeria, CC, not to mention the contracts of Rivera and Posada). I'm probably speaking more on emotion here than with any real rational thought, but this off-season has really started pushing me to the point that for the first time in my life, I've actually considered not paying all that much attention to baseball. The system and complete unfairness of the sport in general is completely turning me off to something that I really, truely love. There doesn't appear to be any chance at all for a salary cap of any kind, and without it, a team like the Yankees can literally go out and buy a complete roster makeover. I wish I could see a solution or a salary cap on the horizon but it just appears so incredibly unlikely. The Players Union I'm sure will throw a fit and I'm not sure you could get enough owners to vote for it (I'm not sure what % would need to approve it, but the Yankees, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers, Angels and Red Sox would almost certainly vote against it as the current system favors them completely - and a couple other teams - White Sox, Braves and Astros might also be opposed.) The only possible scenario where the Players Union goes for it would be an extended lock out period, but again, I just don't think you can get enough owners to do it. It's a shame that MLB has gotten itself to the point that it's basically stuck, while the NFL and NBA were able to both get salary caps in place, giving every team a fair shot. Sorry for the rant...
  15. But why? Because if he really did say no to the Yankees we're the only team left?
  16. The Giants article's headline says "Brewers emerging as frontrunner" but he says absolutely NOTHING in the story about the Brewers. Also....if that were the case, or even a remote possibility...wouldn't someone else have said SOMETHING similar to that by now???
  17. Blog on ESPN.com indicates that CC is indeed waiting for a west coast team. They have quotes from his good friend, Torii Hunter, where Hunter doesn't even mention the Brewers. He says it's extremely important that he pitch on the west coast. We can only hope everything falls perfect: Texiera back to Angels, Manny and Furcal to the Dodgers and the Giants don't make an offer
  18. TH has a new blog up, Melvin met with the reps and thinks we're still in it. Doesn't sound like CC was actually at the meeting himself, which is a bit disappointing. I can never get an accurate read on Melvin's quotes either, from reading it I get the impression that he's just really hoping he comes back, as opposed to actually believing he might come back. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35756694.html Las Vegas - Brewers general manager Doug Melvin just returned from his meeting with the agents of free agent left-hander CC Sabathia. Amazingly, after five weeks of waiting, the meeting took less than a half-hour. I asked Melvin point-blank if the Brewers are still in the running to sign Sabathia and he didn't hesitate with his succinct answer. "Yes," he said. Melvin and assistant Gord Ash met at The Wynn, a nearby hotel, with lead agent Greg Genske and assistants Brian Peters and Scott Parker. He wouldn't reveal details of the brief meeting but said there was an agreement to talk again later in the week. If that meant that Melvin might boost his offer of five years and $100 million, he wouldn't say. Melvin did laugh at reports that surfaced over the last 24 hours claiming the Brewers were ready to add a sixth year and "opt out" clauses that would allow Sabathia to get out of his contract if so desired. Melvin laughed when told of those reports. "That didn't come from me," said Melvin. "I haven't talked to (team owner) Mark (Attanasio) about that. I don't know where they get that. It's speculation. "I can't comment on what we're going to do or what we're not going to do. When you're negotiating, it's best not to say anything." Despite the brevity of the meeting, Melvin said he did "get a feel" for where he stands with his offer. The only other reported offer is the six-year, $140 million bid by the Yankees, who met with Sabathia and his representatives Sunday night here. Not knowing what other interest there might be, Melvin said he thought the Brewers were still in the running to sign Sabathia, who pitched them to their first playoff berth in 26 years after coming from Cleveland in early July. "Until we're told we're no longer involved, I take it that we have a chance," said Melvin. "Teams can pull out, too. I don't know what else is out there." Though he can't consider any other major moves until Sabathia makes his decision, Melvin said he does not plan to set a deadline for his answer to the Brewers. "We haven't said that we would set a deadline," said Melvin. "I think the reason is there's not a lot of other stuff going on (with other free agents). We don't have any other free-agent deals on the table. "I told them I'd get back to them before we left here." At that point, Melvin probably will tell Sabathia's agents what else he is prepared to do, if anything. But I've been told there is not a lot of wiggle room in their original offer.
  19. Getting the draft picks is a very minor "bonus" at this point. Yes, it'll be nice to have them come draft time but as Invader3K just stated...I'd much rather have CC next season. Even with great drafts, it's still a few years down the road for those guys to make it to the big leagues, if they make it at all.
  20. I wish we could have meet directly with Sabathia...from everything I've read, it's that the Yankees met directly with CC and his agents and Melvin is ONLY meeting with CC's agent. Though just because the meeting went "great" doesn't really mean anything. It probably just means that he told them he was interested, which I'm sure he is. I'm very angry at myself for even hoping that CC returns. All season long I knew it was only for a few months and that he would leave at the end of the season, and I promised myself I wouldn't get my hopes up, even a little, because it would just be too disappointing. Now I read an article that "there was a sense in baseball that he would return" and I can't help but get excited....ugh.
  21. TH is reporting the Red Sox will meet with him next week. Being one of the few teams that can legitimately afford him, I suppose it makes sense for them to at least talk to him, but I was under the impression that they wouldn't be persuing him at all....
  22. How about Jim Rice? It's his last year on the ballot and he's been gaining steam. He was at like 72% last year, 16 votes shy. I bet he finally gets in as there really aren't many very good candidates and it's his last shot. I think he deserves it personally.
  23. That guy for VT was absolutely crazy. 9 point lead with one minute to go, and they tie it up with 7 seconds left, only to have Hughes hit a tough one to win it. Hopefully this win really bring the team together (see Texas win last year).
  24. Bohannon is missing a TON of free throws already this year...he was our best FT shooter last year and if he's not knocking those down, especially at the end of games (like the Iona game), it's going to cost us at some point. He needs to figure it out soon...
