  1. You can trade a player at any point in time after acquiring him in a trade. No waiting period of any kind.
  2. There isn't much to the story and I can't find it on any other website, but CNNSI.com is reporting that Matt Holliday is extremely close or has already been traded to the A's. Doesn't give much detail wise: "The Oakland Athletics have acquired star outfielder Matt Holliday in a trade with the Colorado Rockies, SI.com has learned." http://sportsillustrated....eyman.holliday/index.html If this is true, I'm happy that he's not only not in our division, but completely out of the NL. Edit: ESPN confirms http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3694100
  3. Sonics are going to be built starting in January, I don't know any exact locations but there will be a minimum of 8-10 in Wisconsin, 5 of which will be in the Milwaukee area. I'm certain of this as one of my friends is an independent contractor and put in a bid to do the heating/air conditioning in all of the new locations (he didn't win the bid). There might be more, but he put a bid for the combined 8-10 within about a 150 mile radius from him (Madison).
  4. I'd be interested in a keeper league for next year as well. I'm not super hardcore about it, but I watch and read about baseball as much as I can during the season so I think I can do ok...
  5. Just read in the JS today that "Sabathia had a phone conversation with Yankees captian Derek Jeter". Did anyone see this anywhere else? Not that it's news but I would have thought it would have been mentioned somewhere. I would expect numerous phone calls like that from players from many teams (including Brewer players that knew him best)...but it's the Yankees so it has be news!!
  6. I apologize for not knowing this and I'm just entirely too lazy to research it, but don't our lower levels of the minors use a DH a majority of the time (if not all of it)? If we do use him at catcher, I would venture a guess that he gets days at DH when he's not catching. That at least doesn't take any at bats away from him if they decide he's going to catch full time. I'd prefer that one of our "top tier" prospects not lose any AB's simply because of the position he plays on the field.

  8. The Dodgers just offered Manny 25 million a year for 2-3 years. If he accepts that, or something similar, does that take them out of the Sabathia sweepstakes or would they really commit 50 million a year to 2 players? I'm sure they have plenty of money but I would think if they get Manny they don't really go hard at CC.
  9. Ennder- I think you have a valid point here that hasn't really been considered, or at least discussed. Yes, we're making an offer of 4/100 (probably). But there's nothing that says that's our final offer. I find it hard to believe that if CC comes back and says he'll accept if we take on a 5th year that we would turn that down. We might, but I just find that very hard to believe. I think we're all assuming we wont' be close, and we probably won't money wise. But I'm still not completely buying that he's as good as gone. I have no basis for this, but I tend to actually believe most of what CC was saying at the end of the year, that it wasn't all just good PR and we might actually have a shot in this thing. I'm trying my best not to get any hopes up and I've been preparing for months to read the ticker that reads "CC Sabathia agrees to terms with some other team..." but I can't help it. I'm going to be sad if he leaves.
  10. We still have to offer arby and I think the Brewers are fine with either decision. He either comes back for one more year, reasonably priced and probably remains a Type A free agent next year (if he can stay remotely healthy). Or he leaves and we get the 2 picks. The only really bad spot would be him coming back and getting a major injury. We get no Sheets and possibly no picks for him.
  11. So how long before we start hearing that we've made an offer...he's considering/possibly rejecting it? I know it's highly unlikely he comes back at all, but we do have some time with exclusive negotiating rights...IMO, if we don't get close to a deal in that timeframe it's all over.
  12. No, they don't have a problem with you "upgrading" them. The problem with doing that is that they've already filled a lot of those seats with other season ticket renewals and I'll wind up with not as good of seats as I should get with my priority rank on tickets. It's not that big of a deal, it's just frustrating that it's taken them this long to get them out to us, not to mention the postseason money of mine that they've held onto for 3 weeks now (since the season ended).
  13. Buster Olney has a new article on ESPN with the 5 things to watch this offseason. The Brewers are mentioned in 3 of them: Trading for Peavy possibly, possibly shopping Fielder and of course, CC. He states in several spots that the Brewers will need to replace him and doesn't even mention us as a remote possiblity for him. Heres the blurb on CC (it's a free article so I think this is ok to post): (offset quote; should still have link --1992)
  14. I notice that the seating chart references season ticket renewals...has anyone received that yet? Or know when it should be coming? The renewal date for the cheaper prices is November 17th, that's less than 3 weeks from now. I realize it's more difficult with the playoffs and prices increases, but thats an incredibly small window to require a renewal. It leaves a lot of stuff to sort out in a very small timeframe: Price increase - with the economy as it is, it could be difficult for some to come up with the money, espcially with X-Mas coming up Seat location/upgrades Adding/removing tickets from your package
  15. I thought Alexander was supposed to be someone that could step in and at least pick up a few minutes a game right away. I dont' think he's even left the bench yet. Granted, it's only been 2 games but I'm a bit disappointed that we took a college junior (I think he was a junior at least) and he can't even crack a rotation that somehow warrants Dan Gadzuric numerous minutes of playing time.
  16. Bucks looked pretty solid tonight, albeit against one of the poorer teams in the league. Bogut looked good again, now if only he can stop getting hosed bye the guys with the whistles.
  17. From that looks of that picture, the playing field is HUGE...
  18. I don't have access to a Mac unfortunately but I'm pretty sure I do have Movie Maker. As far as the 15 minutes go, that's just a rough estimation of each song being 5 minutes long. Obviously I wouldn't pick anything longer than that and more likely, the song will be 3-4 minutes long, shrinking the number of pictures by quite a bit.
  19. Hey- In an effort to save a little bit of money for my upcoming wedding, I've agreed to put together a slideshow for my wedding. I'm sure you've all seen them before - music (usually 3 different songs) played to pictures of the bride, then the groom, then us together. I have all of the pictures, or many of them at least, in electronic format (.jpg's) on my computer and I'm fairly techincally inclined so I'm not overly concerned about that but I have a few questions, both for people that have had this at their wedding and a technical question or two. Any help would be much appreciated. #1 - What progam should I use for this? I'm thinking of using Microsoft Powerpoint but it just seems that Powerpoint would get a bit tedious. Any other thoughts? Is there a basic movie application that is either free or cheap that I could use? #2 - What is an appropriate number of pictures to use, and how long should each be on the screen? My initial thought is based upon 3 different 4-5 minute songs. This puts each picture category at about 45-50 pictures, each being on the screen for roughly 5 seconds. Is this too many pictures? Should each picture be up longer? I don't want people to get bored, so I figured 15 mintues was about as long as I wanted to push it. #3 - Is it appropriate to use any song we want? The fiance and I are having an argument on this. I think that we should both be able to pick any song we want for our portion of the pictures (obviously not vulgar or anything like that). I think we should get to use a song that either we really like, relate to or have found motivational (I'm not going to pick it, but a song like Thriller by Michael Jackson would be a good example of one that I really like), is that appropriate?
  20. I more have a problem with the word "champion". They aren't the champion of anything, they were the best of the teams that didn't win a division. Should we put up some sort of banner to represent the post-season, yes. It's still a huge deal and worth nothing. But it needs to read just "2008" or "2008 Wild Card" or something like that. We weren't the champion of anything and it shouldn't be stated as such.
  21. Doesn't sound like the Braves are too keen on trading for Peavy. If this is accurate and holds true, the number of suitable teams for Peavy appears to be shrinking: http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/11056557
  22. It just shows that even if we pick up the option, Cameron could most likely easily be moved. He's solid defensively, does provide some pop and is signed to a short, reasonable contract. I'd pick up the option no matter what. If it turns out we don't need/want him, flip him to the Yankees or another team, even if it's just a low level prospect.
  23. I just don't see the Braves as a good fit. Yes, they have the pieces in place to make the deal. However, trading those pieces away (especially Jurrjens and/or Escobar) would be a big mistake. They're trying to build a young, competitive team and those are some of the key components. I just don't buy that adding Peavy is going to help them improve. Yes, they'll have one of the top pitchers in the league, but they're stunting their own progress of rebuilding (IMO). I also don't really see too many adequate replacements for someone like Escobar (though to be honsest, I didn't look all tha thard). Granted, a lot can happen in 4 years but it just doesn't make much sense to me. Peavy is the type of player that puts you over the tops, moves you from 85-90 wins to a championship caliber team, I don't think it takes you from a 72 win team to a playoff team.
