  1. Who are the realistic options for a callup? Friers won't work. Peralta would. Any other suggestions? I'd really prefer not to destroy the entire bullpen with an Estrada/Dillard start, especially if Chris were to miss two starts. There is really no way of knowing exactly when he will be ready. 9 days seems awfully fast to recover from 8 stitches.
  2. If it's just one start, I'd guess we would go with Estrada, though he's not exactly stretched out. If it's a DL stint, they have to call someone up. Other than Peralta (who would line up to pitch on Friday), what other options would we realistically have to bring up? We could send Dillard down for the roster spot if Narveson doesn't go on the DL. Hopefully it's just one start, we'll find out tomorrow I guess. Which hand was it? If it's his glove hand, they could wrap it up and he'd be back much sooner. Too bad those two off days were last week, not this week or next so we can't just skip him.
  3. This was awesome, we tried our best to lose it but something is just different on this team. Different from earlier in the year where they would have lost this game...different from past Brewers teams in that when the pressure mounts, they don't fold, they give pressure the middle finger and fight through it. Still some very rough spots in the game but a win is a win is a win. Now lets get the next games and take the wind right out of their sails!!! Hope Braun can get it back together, not too many 0-10 and awful at bats for him.
  4. Well we got the first one amazingly....now lets take the wind out of their sails these next two days!!
  5. I'm extremely worried going into this series. I haven't been this nervous about an upcoming series (especially in August) in...well pretty much any that I can remember. I'm really just hoping we can win 1 game and still leave town in first place. Anything over that would just be awesome.
  6. I've been to Boston and Niagra Falls a couple of times. Niagra Falls is actually pretty boring, I wouldn't plan on spending more than a day or two there. It's neat to see but that's about it. Not much else around there other than a casino. Make sure to bring your passports, as the Canadian side is much nicer with a better view (it's also where the casino is). Buffalo is pretty close by, I can recommend lots of wings places there. As far as Boston goes, just walking around downtown and the city in general will take you to some pretty interesting places. The Fenway tour is alright (I've done it twice) but other than going up on the monster, there isn't really much else that you see there that you couldn't see just by going to a game, it's just a walk around the stadium basically. Sam Adams tour is alright if you want to drink some free beer.
  7. The HR rate is concerning, it just seems that when Greinke does miss with a pitch, it's not missed down or inside or whatever, it's right over the heart of the plate, and hitters really haven't been msising them.
  8. I want us to win all of the, but I'm very scared/nervous for this series. Seems like we're due for a letdown at some point, the Cardinals will be gungho to play us, as this means way more to them based on the standings. Nobody else is scared of this at all? I'm really just hoping to snag 1 win in the series.
  9. I'm very leery of talking about this until we're secured of a playoff spot. It's so far away and we're so from being guaranteed a spot. Fun to think about but I'm going to refrain from my roster until we've clinched.
  10. I guess for me, my question is...who do we legitimately have left as our next set of guys? Looking at the minors now, there doesn't appear to be too many of those types. Maybe Gamel or Green, but it seems void of that star player.
  11. It would be really, really huge to win game 1 of the series. Put more pressure on the Cards, keep the momentum going and ensure that we leave with at least a 2 game lead. It would be nice if we could have an easy win at some point too, all these close games against them are going to kill me at some point.
  12. I think the Cardinals are really putting a lot into this series. If we can take the series, we can really put a damper on them I think. But really, just avoid a sweep and we're still in a very good spot. If they don't skip anyone, I think the matchups are probably in our favor.
  13. The lineup just isn't the same without Morgan in there, I hate facing lefties. With as hot as Morgan has been all year, would it be THAT bad to give him a start against a lefty and see how he does? Especially in a place like Houston with a giant CF...just saying.
  14. The Brewers have lost 4 straight series in Houston and have been very not good on the road this year....I think it's time to end both of those things. Let's go Yo, shut out that AAA lineup known as the Houston Astros.
  15. He'd be more useful currently than Tim Dillard. Overbay could at least PH on a regular basis and could play 1b if we needed him too in a pinch.
  16. The Cardinals are up 6-3 in the 4th. First inning they got 3 runs on 1 hit, third inning they got 3 runs on 2 hits.
  17. I guess it depends on how long the appeal process takes. If it goes until Monday, they reduce it to 3-4 games, he still misses the entire Milwaukee series. This way he missse just one and the 4 in Florida (though they are playing well right now). For a catcher, missing 4 games in Florida in August maybe isn't such a bad thing anyway.
  18. I guess that makes sense then, and there certainly were guys like that. Not as many as you would think though. There were an awful lot of just average people (like me) in it, just to see if they could. The event is based around teamwork and camaraderie, not so much about showing that you're bigger, stronger and tougher than everyone else. Though like I said, there were a few of those but everyone on the course was nice and helping everyone else.
  19. He is a good insurance policy, yes, I'll buy that. But he could always be called back up if the pen gets fried. I'm not saying I want him pitching every game (I sure don't) but one inning a month is somewhat absurd. How is he supposed to stay sharp/effective throwing one inning in over a month? If he does come into a game and we're down 5-6 early, we're going to want him to keep it like that, not give up more runs. He needs to get an occasional inning for this to happen. If this isn't going to happen (and it sure looks like it won't), then he should be replaced with someone that they will actually use. They could always bring him back up if they needed to.
  20. I still go back to Brandon Phillips on this...at least someone said it: http://www.huffingtonpost...-cardinals_n_677050.html
  21. I think Estrada would be more likely to come into a game in the third inning than Dillard as well. He HAS come into a couple of games when that happened, and he was brough in in extras the other day, presumably to pitch a few innings. Dillard was being used regularily in June, usually for an inning at a time, but then he just fell off the map. If Dillard is in fact that long guy/blowout type, the last month would indicate that we really don't need a guy like that on the roster, he's just simply not used. You could always bring him back up if you needed if if the pen got destroyed at some point.
  22. I'm not sure what you're implying here. That it looks stupid? Or easy? Or like a waste of time?
  23. Yeah, they have lost 6 in a row, are now a game under .500 and 6.5 back in the standings. That's a pretty fast fall from grace. Not saying they can't get back in it (we've been known to have similar streaks on the road), but it's sure looking like just finishing .500 would be a goal for them, not winning the division. They're only a game ahead of the Reds at this point too, so they might have 3 teams to catch and pass pretty soon. It was a nice story while it lasted, but I think their season, at least in a sense of competing for a playoff spot, is pretty much over. As someone mentioned above, at least they have that horrible call to fall back on as an excuse.
  24. Yeah, over a year at this point. The next event here is scheduled for mid-October 2012. Plenty of time to get ready for it if you're interested in doing it. Going to be a whole different element in the fall though. In July, the water actually felt good, kept you cool and wasn't really a problem. In October, it could be anywhere from 80 to 40 degrees and that water could really start to make you cold and be a much more difficult element to deal with.
  25. I think we need to get to 90 to feel comfortable at this point. I think the Cardinals have one last run in them, and the fact that we play them 9 times leaves a lot of it in their/our own hands. Ideally though, we just can't afford to lose a lot of games to the "softer" teams on our schedule. We have 6 left against Houston and Chicago, we really need to win at least 7-8 of those. Win the series against the teams we should beat (I would throw Pitt in there as well) and then just don't bomb against the Cardinals and Phillies and we shoudl be in a great spot. One game at a time though, it feels great right now but it can change in a hurry. We had a big lead in 2008 in late August and blew that one, just hoping nothing even remotely close to that happens this season.
