  1. Hall lined a single to CF with two down, however. And, he's advanced to 2B on a WP in a 2-0 count to Vargas. Now 3-0 count.
  2. Garcia has that innate propensity for poor chasing swing choices. Not a disciplined hitter. Wilkinson took advantage with ease.
  3. Understood. And, yes, it's very ideal Cornielle grounds out and comes out firing much better in the second inning. I'd have zero qualms about thinking I can get 3-4 IP out of Molina. Zero. I've seen his outings in Carolina. It's a gamble, yes. BUT, he's done nothing but pound the zone and dominate with that change-up. I'm going for tonight's 'W'.
  4. IF I were managing this Timber Rattlers game? Considering how absolutely lefty dominant this Lake County line-up is and how ugly that Cornielle inning was...I've got Cornielle on an uber-tight leash. I'd have LHP Mason Molina ready to start warming up at the first sign of trouble in the second frame. Then again, that's just me. And, I also wouldn't have Yophery batting fifth in a game two possible take the series scenario.
  5. Cornielle gets up 1-2 on the next hitter as well. What happens this time? Heater tailing high and away arm side. It is happening a lot in this frame. He gets the K swinging. Another heater high and likely outside the zone. But he gets the swing and miss. Ugly ugly inning. BUT, 1-1 result is a massive 'W'.
  6. Rodriguez drops a 1-2 foul tip (not an easy grab). The count falls full. He misses on an inside slider. AND, the bases are juiced. A two out free pass. Have I mentioned Cornielle came out in a mighty struggle?
  7. One might ask: After beaning a guy high and inside on the last pitch and after a mound consult by the infield why are you swinging on that first pitch? One might ask. Anywho, we'll definitely take it.
  8. Cornielle gets a much-needed jam shot bloop to Adams at 3B for the second out.
  9. AND, just like that, he follows my lead and loses complete control plunking the next batter high and inside off his upper back. Cornielle is very much not sharp at all.
  10. Cornielle's heater is really tailing to the arm side run inside. He doesn't really have control of the pitch and it's forcing him to try and lead with his off-speed.
  11. Pratt gets the lead runner out at 3rd with a fantastic scoop and throw. LOVE that aggression. You rarely see it but that play is often there. Pratt is so dang good man. SO good.
  12. Gotta hope for a K here up 0-2. Hopefully limit the damage to one run overall.
  13. That was a second pitch. First pitch was a strike looking.
  14. Ugly start for Cornielle. Four pitch walk. 0-1 dead center cut off-speed gapped double to left CF. That was a meatball.
  15. In general, and it has very very little to nothing to do with that AB, I've mostly disagreed with Stanley, now Estevez, and likely the Brewers org and where they've batted Yophery in their line-ups in 2024. AND, Cornielle comes aboard and throws four consecutive heaters for balls. Ugly start.
  16. Didn't look comfortable and had two very poor swing choices. Show some patience, young man. Ugly AB.
  17. Yophery comes aboard and swings at an inside pitch at his eyes. He proceeds to swing at another heater inside (ball two) and hits a weak grounder to SS into a DP. Yuck.
  18. AND, Areinamo does the job with an 0-1 well hit poke liner single into LF. Pratt scores. Men on the corners. One down. T-Rats lead 1-0.
  19. Adams plunked for the 41st time (off his left ankle). Two men on. With a grimace, Luke will make his way down to 1B. Men on 1st and 2nd. One down.
  20. Pratt patiently takes a four-pitch free pass in the follow-up AB. Man on first. One down.
  21. Pitch numero uno is underway at Lake County. Ball 1 outside.
  22. In true fashion, the Sounds were rained out and suspended until a double-header tomorrow. It is a Playoff evening, baby...
  23. This is probably because the Brewers as an org also can't really hit the splitter. 😯 I'm kidding (kind of. not really. maybe just a little bit. Or not at all). I mean RHP Tanner Shears has about one of the filthiest splitters I've seen in the past several years. One of my biggest heartbreaks heading into this season was I wasn't going to see the further development of that pitch. Anywho, as to Holub, the splitter is a relatively new pitch for him with varying levels of control. In his last interview with Jeff Hem of the Sounds, he didn't even mention the pitch. It was all fastball and slider talk. I personally see the pitch as an off-season development akin to RHP Shane Smith developing the slider in the AFL last season. But, to your point: when he is throwing it it is pretty dang nasty. I could have sworn I've seen him use it in several outings of late with the Shuckers. But, I'm an old geezer who often makes wild n wooly claims on the basics. As you both know and love to point out 😆
