  1. Consecutive singles finding the holes have two men on with one down for the second consecutive frame. RHP Blake Holub will try to escape. He has a K on a 97 mph heater in this same inning.
  2. 3-up and 3-down for the Shuckers in the 8th. First pitch sky high pop up to 2B by Zavi Warren. Knuckling squibber by Hall up the 1B/Mound side. Pitcher corralled and it was a near miss toe touch on 1B by the scrambling covering first baseman. Line drive to RF shy of the warning track - Miller just got under that. Put a good swing on it just didn't barrel it enough. On to the bottom of the 8th. 4-1 Shuckers.
  3. One of those classic smoked liners right to Murray shadowing toward 2B. Hitter was all over it.
  4. A lead-off line drive single to left CF to start the Barrons 7th is followed by a hanging 2-2 fly out to LF (mistake pitch). Childers, who isn't particularly sharp, then walks the next batter on 4 pitches. Men on 1st and 2nd. One down.
  5. A passed ball advances runners to 2nd and 3rd. Hall walks. Murray cant barrel a dead center hanging curve and pops out to shallow left CF with the SS easily backtracking and corralling the pop up. Boy, that was an extremely hittable pitch and Murray knew it. Sigh. They add one insurance run. 4-1 headed to the bottom of the 7th.
  6. Sparks adds an oppo first pitch two out RBI line drive single in the 7th. This just after EBJ hit an absolute jam shot bloop granted a single which was clearly an error miscommunication between the charging RF and 2B - the ball dropped about 15 ft into the shallow RF grass. 4-1 Shuckers, regardless. We'll take it!
  7. Have any of you actually watched EBJ's swing in 2024? It's really a fascinating train wreck. I legit can't fathom how he thinks his current pre-swing set-up and in-swing motion makes an ounce of sense in the long run. It needs so many moving parts to come together perfectly to make a possible hit a reality. I am very very curious if this isn't an organizational approach of "Let's let him do this in 2024 and in the off-season (maybe starting back in the AFL) completely re-work his swing." I can't imagine this current approach is a long-term solution.
  8. We know 3B Brock Wilken is a brand new dad (awesome news!) but I think it's fair to say the talented young man needs a rebirth himself heading into September. My goodness. It. Is. Ugly at the dish in August. 63 AB. 6 H. 0 XBH. 28 K. 13 BB. Wooooof Let's hope he can rediscover that power stroke and add some insurance runs late. We're running on empty.
  9. I'm a BIG fan of limiting LHP Nate Peterson to reduced short stints. Love love love using him as a piggy-back short-stint starter today. Peterson can be quite effective if he simply faces an order once. He's a bullpen arm by my eyes until he can get his breaking ball issues under wraps. Way too many hangers. In short stints he can use it as a chase pitch while maximizing the impact of his heavy arm-side run on his rising heater. This is one of my favorite story lines of the Shuckers series this week. No matter what happens throughout the rest of the game seeing an impactful 2 2/3 IP, 64 pitch, one time through the order outing for Peterson brings me joy. That's a staff adjusting in-season even though their pitching staff is over-extended. LOVE this type of work.
  10. OF Hedbert Perez is still a 'liability' vs LHP's but it's hard not to feel extremely validated and affirmed given his early High-A output. I've been on the forefront of the 'Give him a chance to get healthy before writing him off' defense lines (LOL) this past year. He flashed several times in the past season plus before getting injured and despite the prolonged slump. He still flashed the smooth and powerful line drive swing with gap power. I continue to contend that despite his small size he's a plus OF'er because he can cover ground and he has a really good arm. Feeling pretty pumped by what we're seeing early in his return. Just, please please please stay healthy and re-build that foundation.
  11. This is where an Away series comes back to bite us in the kiester. The Post-Game Pods we get on evenings where there is no next-day matinee give us all the injury updates. Perhaps we'll find out what is going on or what has been going on when they return this week for a six-game home stand vs. Quad Cities. IF the young duderz don't play Tuesday or Wednesday, that is. First post-game pod will be Wednesday eve as we go from a Tuesday eve opening game to the mid-day Wednesday matinee. FWIW.
  12. I see Ashby is the same Ashby we saw over the past 3 weeks in Nashville. This is a massive development. So stoked for Ashby and the org for sticking through an extremely challenging and arduous last year. We aren't out of the weeds yet but dang if that rough just went to the short cut.
  13. This is a great reminder. It was in these same very pre-game interviews where I became a big fan of RHP Tyler Herb (still 'Released' Minor League FA status after last season's season-ending injury). As Jim alludes to, many nuggets and player updates within.
  14. To answer my earlier question above: No, the Shuckers offense (nor their defense) can back another very strong K.C. Hunt performance. They miraculously remain 2.5 G ahead of the M-Braves for the 2nd half division playoff berth. But, let's call a spade a spade: this offense isn't making it easy on anyone at present.
  15. Well, I don't know if I can stomach going back to watch the bottom of the 9th in Birmingham. LHP Russ Smith struggled with free passes his entire outing it would appear (3 IP, 2 H, 4 BB, . 3 K, 1 WP, 1 ER). A single, sac bunt, fly out had a man on 2nd base with two down. The closing sequence reads: wild pitch advancing the lead runner to 3B, walk, runner takes 2B via indifference, acting manager Fidel Pena ejection, winning run steals Home?!? Yes, it would appear he stole home in a 2-2 count. Ummm, yeah. Whewwwww. That's tough sledding.
  16. It's another Barrons vs Shucker bullpen showdown. 2-2 game top of the 9th.
  17. No Adams, Burke, Areinamo, or Pratt makes for a very challenged T-Rats line-up. That's a lot of T-Rats juice sitting on the sidelines.
  18. Currently a 1/2 G lead on the Phillies for the coveted #2 spot. I would absolutely not want to be making the bullpen roster decisions moving forward. It's an absolute smorgasbord of better options in Nashville at present to bolster the Pen for the playoff push and into the playoffs. Paredes, Peguero, Ashby, Miz, and Yoho could legitimately swap out over half the MLB Pens currently rostered. Ashby has been absolutely revelatory his past five outings and last night sat 97 and touched 98 - 98.5 mph on that sinker on several occasions. Dare I say he is absolutely back? This is a good problem to have overall but, again, the entire decision-making process is way above my pay grade. I just hope they can press the right buttons.
  19. The Muddies just lost their 3-2 lead in the top of the 7th on a two-run double off of RHP Morris Austin - tho, it should be added, there was some type of fielding error on LF Yoshwar Garcia during the play. 1B Miguel Briceno (the utility knife in the Mudcats clubhouse) just ripped a one out double in the bottom of the same 7th inning. Let's hope the Muddies can pull this out. They trail 4-3.
  20. The Sounds will look to keep the good times rolling in Nashville as they pulled within 4.0 G of first place Columbus with last night's Mitch White master class. The bullpen, like down yonder in Biloxi, remains an absolute force. LHP DL Hall will look to keep his run of recent success - at the Triple-A and MLB levels - going strong as he aims for that call-up to avoid a wasted option year. 2B Christian Arroyo is back in the line-up as he swaps out Patrick Dorrian from his two consecutive game stint. C Brian Navarreto is again manning the back-stop looking to flaunt his clutch bat and defensive prowess. Isaac Collins continues his defensive merry-go-round manning the hot corner while we see the return of LF Tyler Black. Let's root the on the Sounds as they look to continue an improbable, but certainly possible, charge toward a second half playoff berth. Just give a lead to this version of the Sounds bullpen and the rest will likely take care of itself.
  21. The question remains: Will the Shuckers offense ever give talented RHP K.C. Hunt any meaningful run-production? Tonight would be a fantastic time to start a new trend. After last night's 1-0 nail biter, we sure could use another outburst. More importantly, perhaps, can the Shuckers keep adding to their second half lead toward an elusive playoff berth?! All these questions and more are swirling in the currents of the Southern League. 3B Brock Wilken is back again at the hot corner - can he break through to set the tone for a better September? DH Dylan O'Rae is a base stealing machine - he's really come on some these past two contests. Is this fleeting or a new foundation? SS Eric Brown Jr. hit the key triple before the first-pitch OF Lamar Sparks (back in RF) single to score the winning and only run last night. 2B Ethan Murray is in the midst of a <gasp> five game hitting streak and has hit safely in 6-of-7 of his last seven games. The Shuckers will need all hands on deck as they face a very pesky Barrons squad for game 5. The series is currently split 2-2.
  22. Here is your T-Rats lineup card for Saturday night with one change as alluded to by announcer Chris Mehring. LF Hedbert Perez looks to continue his run of offensive production since his recent debut. Can 2B Felix Valerio start producing at the dish? Notable is are the continued absences of 1B Blake Burke and 1B/3B Luke Adams. Those are pretty big holes to fill but the T-Rats have indeed pulled even at 2-2 in this six game series thanks to last night's shellacking. Let's hope for three in a row at Great Lakes!
  23. The Mudcats are underway and here's their lineup card for those interested. Bitonti and Yophery are both back in the line-up while Bitonti gets a chance back at his old familiar hot corner stomping grounds. Baez moves to 2B. RHP Bishop Letson is back on the bump. The Muddies will look to bounce back from last night's 6-3 loss.
