  1. DSL Crew Uno move to 20-11 after beating the Dodgers Mega (Gasp!) 3-1. RHP Enniel Cortez (who else?) shut it all down for the final 3 frames - 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K - for his fourth victory of 2023. It was a random DSL 7 1/2 inning affair. Meanwhile, the Dos are leading the juggernaut Dodgers Bautista in the 7th of an apparent 7th inning tilt 7-3 but the lead-off Dodger is on first.
  2. I'm in the camp of give LHP Robert Gasser an opportunity to play the part of a bullpen or piggyback arm. 35 2/3 IP in the past 2 months as a Sounds starter. 43 K: 5 BB. Opponents are making weak contact for the most part. 3 HR - A HR surrendered every 12 IP and I'd point out two of those were pea shots (one at a 90 EV). I know a corresponding move will need to be made but I personally think the Brewers need to start addressing Miley's injuries in a 'this may last or when is the next one?' mindset. Best case scenario for Woodruff is August. Pitching is very pricey. We know what we have in our bullpen arms. What if we need a longer in ing role amd what if he's already here?
  3. Well this sucks🫠
  4. Fair point there. He is indeed diminutive in height but certainly seems built. 2B? RF? LF? DH? Regardless, the defensive stats at the catcher position leave quite a bit to be desired.
  5. Love Norman's bat. Troublesome defensive statistical trends in 2023, however: 10 GS as a Catcher. 79 Innings. 2-for-25 CS. 7 PB. Those are a tad unsightly. I almost wonder if the brass end up using the Tayden Hall path?
  6. I do not like this story. I do not like it one bit. I do not like this story. I do not like that hit.
  7. INF Tyler Black already set the Shuckers record for consecutive games on base this season. Well, he is fast approaching breaking the stolen base mark as well. He comes in today's tilt with 41 swipes in 2023 (sheeesh). In 2017, CF Johnny Davis (2013 Brewers draft pick - voluntarily retired in 2019) set the franchise record with 52. Stay tuned during this ongoing second half. He obviously has a very healthy opportunity to break this record as well - if he stays in Biloxi for a bit more time.
  8. Re: Josh Adamczewski, SS Lake Central HS From the NWI Times (Indiana) (PS: Highly recommend reading this article. Very in-depth look at the player) 35 BB in 2023 - 0.632 OBP 😁
  9. Tip of the proverbial caps are due for the bullpen work of RHP Ryan Brady (3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 R) and RHP Cam Robinson (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 S). That's now Robinson's 6th Save for the Shuckers and his third scoreless outing in July. We'll take this Cam! Let's build back those good habits from here. You got this. The first half is over. Let's toss it in the recycling bin.
  10. How about the ol' Mudcats duo of Smith & Shears shutting things down in the 7th-thru-9th frames? Smith, in particular: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 3K is quite the set-up. Shears grabbed his 3rd Save of his young T-Rats career. Also, whatever 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. is on this past month...we all need to get some of that. What a tear he has been on. In the month of June he hit 0.294 with an 0.839 OPS - 51 AB, 9 R, 9 RBI, 2 2B, 2 HR, 11 K, 5 BB, 3 SB, 1 CS. In July, so far, he's taken it up another notch: 0.368 BA with an 1.087 OPS - 38 AB, 8 R, 6 RBI, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 BB, 8 K, 3 SB, 0 CS. He was rewarded with a move up to the three spot in the batting order tonight. He definitely delivered. You just love to see it from such an affable young man!
  11. That's a rough couple of games for the Sounds to open their series against Louisville. They've gotten smoked twice. Ouch. They need that bullpen to get back to dominancing.
  12. The one thing Areinamo already does at an elite level is play defense. He is the headiest defender in the current Mudcats crop of infielders. He is a plug-and-play make a smart play make the challenging play look easy infielder. 6 errors in 510 2/3 innings across SS, 3B, and 2B. In essence committing an error every 9 1/2 games. What's even more interesting for my eyes is he has zero errors playing 3B over 148 innings in 2023. He's just a very good baseball player and he's a pleasure to watch.
  13. Heck of a way for the T-Rats to break up a no-hitter! 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. AKA 'Mr. Red Hots' hit a solo jack. Game is tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th . RHP Sam Gardner is on trying to keep this a tie game. Will we see Xtras?
  14. Stop the presses. The DSL Crew Uno have now won 6 straight. They improved to 18-11 today. One game back the DSL Dogers Mega. 6.5 back the juggernaut Dodgers Bautista. Quite the ongoing run these talented young men are on!
  15. Boy did the ACL Crew blow one tonight. They led 6-3 headed into the 9th frame. Then they proceeded to have a classic Rookie Ball walk-filled, wild pitch sprinkled, passed ball, dropped ball 9-run run fest amongst RHP Edrian Robinson and RHP Anthony Perez. This soiled RHP Yorman Galindez's 6 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 R (Unearned), 8 K outing. The Crew committed 5 errors - two apiece for INF's Daniel Guillarte and Juan Baez. C Satchell Norman was credited with three PB's. While Robinson and Perez threw a combined 3 WP's in the deciding 9th. Woof.
  16. DSL Crew Uno lead 4-3 headed to the bottom of the 9th versus the very formidable DSL Giants Black. They will give RHP Roman Perez the chance to close things down as he looks to go 4-for-4 in SO's.
  17. - RHP Samuel Dario was activated by the ACL Brewers off their 7-Day IL
  18. When I see four victories in a row to start this week for our DSL Cerveceros, I am brought back to my sojourns in the Dominican. In certain Domincan locales, there is a commonly used colloquialism: "Al que madruga Dios lo ayuda.". In English, we all know this in a different phrasing: "The early bird gets the worm." It appears the baseball gods have indeed shifted their early helping hands to aid our DSL brethren as they've broken free from the losing woes of the past couple weeks. Four straight DSL victories is how we keep our spirits high during a prolonged All-Star break. Let's get into the report! Image courtesy of Brewer Fanatic Spotlight: We've seen many box score highlights throughout the ACL season from the breakout season of INF Juan Baez. And, now, we are afforded the chance to see his form in the batters box via our good friends at the Brewers Player Development twitter team: I agree @Jake McKibbin: that swing looks very smooth - easy, relaxed, and repeatable. Quite the leg lift to boot. Transactions: NONE Final: DSL Brewers Uno 3, DSL Guardians Blue 0 Box Score / Game Log Outhit 4-to-2, the DSL Uno still managed a 3-0 shutout. Glorious. The big hit for the Crew came in the bottom of the second inning: a bases loaded two out three-run double off the bat of OF Pedro Tovar. Actually, both hits came in that frame. Four walks came the young Crew's way in the remaining seven frames but nothing came of it. This game was about the combined shutout between 17-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Enniel Cortez and 19-year-old Dominican RHP Jesael Cabrera. Cortez continues to excel in his first year as a member of the Brewers and, it is quite clear to me, he is currently pitching beyond his age. In his fifth start of the summer, Cortez managed to hurl 5 IP of 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K, 0 R ball. His K:BB ratio has now elevated to 30:4 in 25 2/3 IP. Man, that's eye-opening for a 17-year-old. Hitters are managing a 0.213 BAA and he is sporting a 0.94 WHIP. He moved to 3-0 on his season. RHP Jesael Cabrera was not to be outdone: 4 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K. He picked up his first save of 2023 in the process. In his second season with the Brewers, Cabrera has definitely made improvements despite a similar ERA as 2022 (4.19-to-4.15). However, he is seeing batters hit a mere 0.200 BAA and he has lowered his WHIP in 2023 to a very workably 0.98. These are good signs for the young hurler as he looks to keep making strides toward a potential stateside ACL promotion in 2024. With the victory, the DSL Brewers #1 moved to 15-11 - 7 1/2 games back the first place DSL Dodgers Bautista (23-4). Final: DSL Brewers Dos 5, DSL Phillies Red 2 Box Score / Game Log The DSL Brewers Dos lost a precarious 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth frame when the Phillies Rojo tied it up 1-1 on the backs of three consecutive singles. Kudos to 17-year-old Venezuelan RHP Luis Guevara for escaping the jam (3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 K, BS, W - 2-0 / 9.82 ERA / 2.00 WHIP). After conceding the tying single up the middle, and a scored error on CF Ramon Moreno advancing runners to second and third, Guevara managed to work around a HBP (loading the bases) by striking out the final two Phillies. Close call! In the top of the ninth inning, the Brewers Dos pounced early with an INF Filippo Di Turri single (2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 R - 0.354 BA / 0.864 OPS) and a Phillies throwing error allowing C Eric Martinez to advance to 2B and Di Turri to 3B. DH Pedro Ibarguen flew out but CF Ramon Moreno then walked to load the bags and 3B Luis Lameda cleared them all with a triple. It was just Lameda's second XBH of 2023 and definitely his biggest - hopefully this kick starts a run as he is clearly disciplined at the dish sporting a very healthy 11:11 K:BB ratio. Mr. OPS, OF Christopher Vazquez (1.210 OPS in 34 PA's), followed Lameda with a run-scoring double himself. Leading 5-1 at that point, the Crew #2 held on to win 5-2. INF Demetrio Nadal didn't repeat yesterday's heroics but he still grabbed a free pass in an 0-for-3 outing and managed to successfully swipe his 12th stolen base (12-for-12 in 2023). Finally, let's acknowledge the ongoing fine work of 18-year-old Venezuelan Jesus Flores. Starting his fifth contest for the DSL Brewers Dos today, he was unable to improve his 0-4 record despite his stellar 6 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 R, 2 K work. Clearly that record absolutely does not tell the tale of his season: 20 1/3 IP, 13 H, 8 BB, 15 K, 1 HB, 1 HR, 0.183 BAA, 1.03 WHIP. Is there more strikeout stuff in his young toolkit? We'll have to stay tuned as he works his way through the lower levels. The Brewers #2 moved to 11-15 - four games back their compadres on the Brewers Uno and 11 1/2 game back the juggernaut that is the first place DSL Dodgers Bautista. As Jim alluded to Monday, the Brewers are entirely off tomorrow. Click the link and check Thursday's schedule - both DSL teams will be back at it and our ACL squad will be taking on the formidable 19-8 ACL Rockies. 20. DSL Crew Numero Dos just broke open a 1-1 tie in the 9th - 5-1 off run-scoring knocks from Lameda (3B) and Vasquez (2B). The young Cerveceros - Uno y Dos - are starting to get hot after a rough couple of weeks. You love to see the pitching performances! The DSL Crew #1 pitched a 3-0 shutout already today.
  21. A DSL sweep! Woot Woot. With the ACL resting, let's take a look at up-and-comer INF Juan Baez:
  22. This is the way. Be ready to shine in those Minor League reports, Craig!
  23. This appears to be shaping up as a very intriguing draft. That's fun!
