At this point, I'm ready to take a low minors lottery ticket in trade for Hiura and just move on from him. I think Voit is a better fit for the roster on Opening Day.

To put this into context, Chourio was the same age last season as all the prep draftees drafted two months earlier. Except he was attempting to hit against AA pitchers.

While this is certainly the case a lot of the time, in Chourio and Mitchell we're discussing two players in different stratospheres. It's akin to suggesting Eric Lauer might have more trade value than Corbin Burnes. It's not a knock on Lauer, he's a very nice player, but he isn't Corbin Burnes.

Shocked is a strong word. I’d be mildly surprised if Chourio *doesn’t* play in Nashville this season, injury issues excepted. If the guy is raking, promote him to face the more polished and crafty pitchers of the AAA circuit.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if we see Chourio in Milwaukee this season no matter how well he hits.

Jackson Chourio has *way more* value in trade than Mitchell. I also doubt Chourio is the next Trout. I’m just saying what he’s doing is comparable to some elite players as a teen. Where he goes from here is unknown to everyone.

I think you're really undervaluing how rare what Chourio did at his age is in the context of baseball. He's posting A-Rod/Trout kind of performance in the minors as a teenager. His performance was anything but pedestrian, he has an OPS well over .800 in both of his MiLB seasons. Is there still a chance Chourio fails? Absolutely, that's the case with any prospect. But there's a reason why literally every prospect evaluator is kinda losing their minds over him right now, what he's doing is amazing.

For sure, and I think it's still trending upward. The Brewers will likely lose the likes of Small, Turang, and Frelick from the list but I see those losses more than filled by the 11-25 prospects as they rise through the system.

Agreed, and that's ignoring Ashby's current issues. While we all like the potential long-term upside of Ashby, the Brewers also need to win in 2023 and Lauer is clearly the best shot of doing that.

I wrote the intros to this series for Spencer and I use the word "depth" a lot. There's a lot of interesting aspects of this farm, which has a bunch of upside pitchers 11-20 and then a bunch of upper minors hitters 1-10. I think the Brewers are quite well positioned to be a good MLB team for the next several years, which is impressive given their apparent lack of willingness/ability to extend pretty much anyone.

Wins may be the most important thing in baseball but the team needs to be watchable, too. And there were stretches of Brewers baseball that I just turned off because of things like their sub-50% ability to score a runner from third with less than two outs. Please fix this, if only for my sanity.

I've seen several people, particularly on Twitter, claim that Burnes is the best pitcher in Brewers history (some saying it's not close). Is this a common thought? I don't buy it one bit. I think Burnes has the potential to become the best pitcher in Brewers history but Burnes has been an elite starter in one season and an extremely good starter in another. If he replicates 2022 in 2023-4 (or is even better), sure, he's the best in Brewers history. But as of right now, I don't see him with a clear advantage over Sheets or Higuera. Maybe that's just me.

I didn't realize this contract included a team option for 2024, which makes way more sense than what I initially thought was a two month offer on a pitcher with control issues coming back from a surgery that often hampers control for several months.

I assume they refer to the team name at the time but now that I think about it, I don’t know for sure.
