    The key to Gibson has always been forcing him to throw strikes. As you said, lay off the sinker that dives out of the zone and he'll get flustered and start nibbling. Then either take the walk or wait for the inevitable mistake.

    The Crew returns home with a tough series to face. The resurgent Orioles are 15 games over .500 and in position to grab a postseason berth for the first time in... oh hell, I don't feel like looking it up. It's been a long time. But man, if I was an Orioles fan, would I be pissed off at ownership. They finished 2022 strong and then sat on their hands all winter while holding fast to a payroll waayyyyy under their market size. Anyway, who cares about Baltimore. The Brewers badly need Peralta to get his head back on straight and start off this homestand with a win. Get through this Orioles series and up next.... *mouth starts watering*.... THE ATHLETICS COME TO TOWN.

    Oh yeah, you want to combine the two for the most accurate reading, for sure. But 90th percentile exit velo gives a good indication whether a guy is routinely smashing the ball or whether they occasionally luck into really getting one.

    Back on topic, seeing Rowdy start hitting for power again would be a significant step forward for this lineup.

    I'm going to take this moment to whine about Baseball Savant. They do *so much* right but keeping max exit velocity front and center is just stupid, to put it bluntly. Even Jamey Carroll got into one now and again. Using a single data point out of hundreds is bad statistical presentation. 90th percentile exit velocity, on the other hand...

    Yep, easily the biggest problem with the current blackout rules: large swathes of the country (generally pretty low population areas, but still) are blacked out of 3+ teams. Iowa is the worst with six different blackouts in place.

    The Brewers go for the four-game sweep (a real rarity in baseball) against a Reds team that's actually been pretty good before they ran into the Crew in this series. Get it done!

    The Reds have actually been a decent team for the past month or so and might be a difficult challenge as soon as next year. Last night's win wasn't pretty but it was a win and the Brewers need lots of those right now. Hopefully the Crew can get an acceptable start from Rea and continue rolling.

    I didn’t like the third year for Abreu. And it looks like more than just that third year is going to be a problem. I was good with signing Abreu for two years but not three. Looks like I get half credit on being right about that.
