  1. It feels very wrong that the brats at Target Field are better than they are at AmFam. AmFam needs a Kramarczuk's. They're a highlight of the Target Field experience. Legitimately good sausages/polishes for a price that doesn't make you reel in horror.
  2. Which is fine if additional revenue sharing is in place. My opinion for years has been that the MLBPA will accept a reasonable salary cap if the floor captures the current spending of ten or more teams, which puts a floor around $140m right now. What the players won’t accept is a floor so low that a few teams have to spend a few million more while big spending teams gut their payrolls by $50m+, which is what owners have been offering to this point. At the end of the day, players want to make money, the same as owners. If you guarantee players a certain threshold of money, there’s no reason they would even care about a salary cap. What matters is the total revenue.
  3. I agree that payroll dropping in either 2023 or 2024 is a big mistake and doubles down on waning fan interest. Even if you have to scale back at some point, it needs to be after 2024 and the exodus of free agents. Though I will say that with the caveat that if they're intentionally withholding some payroll in mid-February with the expectation that will be filled by an extension during spring, I wholly endorse that decision. But you need to get the extension done if that's the case. "Well, we tried" won't be good enough.
  4. Welcome to Brewer Fanatic, thanks for contributing! And yes, Spencer's write-up is 🔥. Check back tomorrow morning for prospects 11-15!
  5. Agreed, and that's ignoring Ashby's current issues. While we all like the potential long-term upside of Ashby, the Brewers also need to win in 2023 and Lauer is clearly the best shot of doing that.
  6. I wrote the intros to this series for Spencer and I use the word "depth" a lot. There's a lot of interesting aspects of this farm, which has a bunch of upside pitchers 11-20 and then a bunch of upper minors hitters 1-10. I think the Brewers are quite well positioned to be a good MLB team for the next several years, which is impressive given their apparent lack of willingness/ability to extend pretty much anyone.
  7. There's a certain fella who can post an ERA of 2.50 while hitting 40 bombs a year that might garner a little free agent interest...
  8. A huge shout-out to @Smichaelis9 for these write-ups. When I reached out and asked if they wanted to try their hand at this, I frankly did not expect this kind of quality from the beginning. Really top-notch work and it fills a large hole in our yearly coverage that we've really wanted to fill to take this site to another level. Well done!
  9. One might even say the Brewers need to be RISPy.
  10. And Hader, especially the depleted Hader of mid-2022, was eminently more replaceable than Corbin Burnes.
  11. As for the question itself, I don’t have a lot of faith in Mitchell but believe he’ll get the first shot at the roster. But given that I don’t have much faith in Mitchell, I think we’ll see Frelick anywhere from late April to early June.
  12. Most prospects struggle during their first call ups, it’s more likely than not Frelick will as well. Which is part of the reason the Brewers are relying on as few rookies as possible to open the season.
  13. That’s so cool! Welcome to the site! If you don’t mind a personal question, how’d you become a fan of the Brewers?
  14. Welcome to Brewer Fanatic! Honestly, I'd put over 50% odds he'll be on the Brewers roster at the end of the season.
  15. Wins may be the most important thing in baseball but the team needs to be watchable, too. And there were stretches of Brewers baseball that I just turned off because of things like their sub-50% ability to score a runner from third with less than two outs. Please fix this, if only for my sanity.
  16. This is why I don't get the complaints about the Brewers spending. They're the smallest population market in baseball, right? And that team coming in with a 15-20 payroll routinely speaks to the broken economics of baseball, not anything the Brewers are doing wrong. If anything, I'm often a little irritated at the Twins for running a payroll so similar to the Brewers despite having 1m+ more people in the metro area.
  17. I've seen several people, particularly on Twitter, claim that Burnes is the best pitcher in Brewers history (some saying it's not close). Is this a common thought? I don't buy it one bit. I think Burnes has the potential to become the best pitcher in Brewers history but Burnes has been an elite starter in one season and an extremely good starter in another. If he replicates 2022 in 2023-4 (or is even better), sure, he's the best in Brewers history. But as of right now, I don't see him with a clear advantage over Sheets or Higuera. Maybe that's just me.
  18. I didn't realize this contract included a team option for 2024, which makes way more sense than what I initially thought was a two month offer on a pitcher with control issues coming back from a surgery that often hampers control for several months.
