  1. On paper that's a pretty fair deal IMO but the Twins aren't looking for Houser-leveal talent. They have Gray, Mahle, Maeda, Ryan, and Ober along with several AAA prospects. If the Twins acquire a pitcher, he almost needs to be as good or better than Sonny Gray for it to make an impact.
  2. Montreal also got hosed in baseball luck and then MLB basically drove the stake through the heart of the Expos. 1982: Expos have an extremely promising team, MLBPA strike splits the season in two pieces 1994: Expos have an absolute fire roster with young Pedro, Larry Walker, and Cliff Floyd, MLBPA strikes and cancels World Series 2000: Bud Selig and Carl Pohlad high five each other and try their absolutely awful plan of contracting the Twins and Expos Is it any wonder Montreal is a "bad baseball town"? Maybe if a team stuck around and got to play a good season, a team might do okay there. It also helps if the commissioner doesn't point a shotgun at the city's head. I don't dislike Selig's tenure as commissioner nearly as much as some but that entire contraction thing was one of the most embarrassing things to ever come out of the commissioner's office.
  3. With the Brewers looking at seven starting pitchers after the Miley trade, MLBTR speculates a Houser trade is possible. Houser could easily be the odd man out and if a trade happens, it could be late in the offseason or even during spring training. Personally, I'm leaning away from the Brewers trading any of their possible starters but it's a definite possibility. With so many to choose from and all of them legit candidates to start MLB games, GM Matt Arnold could decide the team is better by trading a pitcher for another asset at a position of more need.

  5. That's the thinking. But boy, if the Brewers find themselves in a situation where they need to call up VanMeter, things have gone completely off the rails.
  6. The Carolinas are ripe for expansion and have a massive population, they just don't have a huge single metro area. Given the dominance of television contracts, a team could enter that market and be firmly mid-market once they're established. Montreal is also a considerable market.
  7. A no-hit lefty-bat outfielder who can play all around the field. Don't see this being anything more than minor league depth and almost no way he fits into this roster. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/brewers-sign-josh-vanmeter-to-minor-league-deal.html
  8. I keep hoping people will warm up to the reactions but it doesn't seem to happen a lot. Oh well, maybe it will just take more time...
  9. Yikes. BTV sure spits out some weird numbers at times.

  11. They're not moving to a balanced schedule. They're moving to a less-unbalanced schedule. Teams still play division rivals 14-ish times whereas they played 19-ish games against them last year.
  12. A division lottery would be a wild event. I'm not sure it'd be a good idea but it'd be a riot to watch unfold.
  13. Out of curiosity, have you been to Tropicana yet? I've driven by Oakland's stadium but never been inside it. Looks like a real garbage pile on TV, though.
  14. If Frelick hits the ground running, it changes the entire dynamic of this lineup. But I'm also incredibly guarded about prospect optimism so I will continue to count on him looking like a typical rookie until shown otherwise.
  15. They could certainly do that with different titles but it all cascades down. Last I checked, the Twins also had two or three assistant GMs. Front offices are a lot bigger now and the titles generally reflect that. But, alas, they are just titles.
  16. Most teams use the POBO to add another layer to the front office; front offices have exploded in size over the past 20 years and more management is needed to handle all the scouts, analytics, development, coaching, etc. I'm most familiar with the Twins in this regard. Their POBO sets high-level instructions for development, approach, etc. but it's actually the GM that is more public-facing and agrees to terms on most contracts, that sort of thing. The GM seems to be more of a day-to-day manager.
  17. Probably, but I find it odd they haven't named him POBO if that's their plan.
  18. 1. That's what I believe as well. 2. Yes, Counsell's deal is also expiring.
  19. Absolutely. Part of what makes this community so great and why we wanted to run it is because it's not Reddit. It's not Twitter. It's not all those places where people are just *awful* to one another without any way to stop it. We're all here to talk Brewers baseball, let's do that together.
  20. Yeah, we use the Baseball-Reference linker and it's not perfect. Unfortunately, we can't do anything except remove the link, which I will do now.
  21. Oh, they absolutely are doing that. They want those two teams to have as much leverage as possible but it has taken way too long. For the good of the league, they need to just let those two teams figure it out on their own.
  22. It makes so much sense across the board, I just wish MLB would do it. They haven't expanded in 25 years now, it's time to do so. And expansion ends MLB letting the A's and Rays attempt to blackmail their respective cities for a new stadium. Let them falter or thrive on their own and relocate if necessary but the entire sport shouldn't be held up by two teams, neither of which I have a lot of respect for anymore (due to ownership, not anything the players have done).
  23. I'm a Twins fan and I also feel this way.
  24. We haven't had a note-worthy #lolmets situation in too long.
