  1. How many starts did Burnes have last year before his 3rd BB? Good to see a brewer hitter swinging at the first pitch instead of waiting for 2 strikes before swinging and ending up with a K. Dreary overcast day and dreary overcast Brewers performance.
  2. LOL. I've been using 2023 for the year all day! Had to rewrite one check twice because I wrote 2023. So the 18 month window from his ACL didn't seem an issue to me. OK. Back in 2022, yes if Bahk couldn't make it back in 12 months, I highly doubt a Catcher who needs to crouch for several hours isn't back this early or at all in 2022 (TWENTY-TWENTY-TWO).
  3. He still walks at a very good rate and K's at below league average. While he may not be great with the bat, his defense doesn't appear to be atrocious. He could be fine batting against LHP and giving Narvaez the odd day off until Severino is back.
  4. My $10 bet on the Brewers to win the World Series looks pretty foolish now.
  5. I'm having an issue with my laptop (or several unrelated). Tried to wake to activate it from a screen off and I couldn't get my bluetooth mouse to register any movement or clicking. Got the screen working by using the keyboard, but the pointer was gone. Nothing I could do would activate the mouse/pointer. Using the keyboard I was able to get all my documents closed and attempted to restart, but the system took 15 minutes to "shut down" when I tried repeatedly to force the power off (it's a HP and if you push the power button for >10 seconds it is supposed to turn off, HAH!!!) So after about 6-7 tries it eventually shut down (I miss the old days where you had a battery you could pull out!). So I dumped the bluetooth mouse (I hated it anyways as it would jump all the time or not move incrementally). Wireless USB mouse in and after one round of normal shutdown/startup no issues. Then Yesterday! I had two FireTV devices go bonkers after Amazon pushed an update. So while troubleshooting the issue, my laptop went into sleep again for the screen (it's plugged in so I have the system set to never sleep, but the screen to sleep after 10 minutes). Well when I tried to get the computer to respond I had a black screen with nothing, until the left 1/4th of the screen became bright white with a slight grayscale image. Again, nothing would bring the system back and without visuals I couldn't even use the keyboard to help. Again, tried to turn the damn thing off and it took multiple tries before it finally shut down. Started up and the left 1/4th was like brightness 150% with the remainder normal. I checked the Hz and other settings on the display and changed resolution, etc and the left side was still bright, but coming back to normal. At that point I checked power and set the dang thing to never sleep for both the system and screen while plugged in. Ran multiple hardware tests and nothing was flagged. By the time I was done, screen was back to normal. Today, normal. What the Heck? Is it a hardware issue? It appears the issue was something was turning off during that "sleep" mode of the screen. Checked the power options and nothing leaps out to me. Anyone with more knowledge of computers have any idea what might be happening or should I prepare for a dead laptop at some point? Any help is greatly appreciated! There were a bunch of Win10 updates pushed down the pipe about the time of the first crash and between the 2 so I don't know if that is related. I'm hoping it's just an issue with some driver that will get corrected eventually and not a hardware issue.
  6. I thought the MLF offense relied on schemes to get separation (multiple routes from a single formation). If that's the case then you don't need elite WR#1s you need talented, but not special WR. I keep going back to their record without Adams (7-0 IIRC) and see that you don't need that. You might need a MVS speedster to open up the field, but you don't need a #1 WR#1. We've also seen that if QB#1 only targets WR#1 then defenses can double/triple team the WR#1 to shut down the offense.
  7. You can get a doctor's prescription for almost anything, especially if you are paying cash. I'm sure most players can find a doctor to write an anabolic steroids prescription, with a human growth hormone chaser. That doesn't mean you have a free pass to take them and when MLB detects the drugs then you should get a warning because, hey I got a prescription! Again, you can't legislate around intent because you have no basis to ascertain the intent. I'm sure 95% of baseball players would have a "fertility problem" if they found out they could take clomiphene without getting into trouble. He said he took it for a fertility issue. Ok, I believe him. Could he have taken it for a performance advantage? Yes. The likelihood you can prove which is correct is pretty low and not worth the effort. First offense, 80 games is appropriate. Edit: Of course, IMHO.
  8. It's unfortunate for those involved, but why do they need to change anything? Testing doesn't determine intent, it just determines presence of banned substances. Whether he intended to or didn't (had a medically prescribed use) is irrelevant for any testing scheme as it's near impossible to prove/disprove intent.
  9. I still remember taking the family to a Jimmy Haynes start back in 2001 just to check out MP. Thankfully the kids didn't have any idea about basic stats let alone advanced metrics or they could have claimed child abuse.
  10. I'm guessing the response would be every catcher not on the Brewers. Seems like the point that keeps coming out post after post.
  11. How about the MLBPA? They are bringing in boatloads in dues and with the testing regimen they can't hire a pharmacist to advise their players about whether recommended drugs are part of the banned drugs? Sure, it could look like MLBPA is trying to circumvent drug testing, but they can require the pharmacist to only evaluate a drug brought to them by a player/verify what a doctor has already prescribed. The player is out 50% of his salary. I'm sure he'd have paid 10% of that for consultation. There sure is a lot of "der" in leadership these days.
  12. While I agree with you in part, I disagree that they need 2 drafted in the first 4 picks. There may be an impact OT available at #22 or #28, but the quality drops off enough for Tackles that picking a second with #53 or #59 is wasting significant value. From most draft boards I have seen there are some very good options still available in the 100-140 range so either a second selection at #92 or waiting to #132 would still net a decent OT. I don't see impact/good players at WR past the 90's (those in the 90+ range are developmental and might not yield decent production for 2-3 years, if at all). There's a small chance an impact DL would be available at #53+, but there are developmental players for later rounds. Edge has some decent players past 80, but the best are likely not available at #92 (so you would need to allocate 1 of the first 4 picks there). We need probably 2 safeties (1 top 80ish and 1 developmental/later/5th round+) and the better ones will be most likely gone by #92. I think Jelani Woods (Julio's BFF Man Crush) would be an excellent addition at #92, but he's gone in every mock or simulation I see by #132 with little TE pickings at that spot. Ideally I would like to see 2 WR, 2 from EDGE/DL/S/OL and 1 TE in the first 5 picks. In most scenarios I have simulated/mocked the best option for the Packers is to Trade down from #22 or #28 into the early/mid second and pick up another 2/3 depending on chipping in other picks. My ideal strategy right now would be to hold until #22 and see what's available. If their top BPA is available they should grab him then trade down from #28 for an early/mid 2nd (35-45 range) another late 2 or early 3 then use the three 2's to pick WR/DL/EDGE/S/OL (depending on what was picked at #22) then use the 2 3rd round (or late 2/#92) to address needs based on EDGE/S/OL/TE if not picked up earlier. If the board doesn't fall out for a good #22 based on needs/rankings then drop down from #22 and use the #28 for BPA. Dropping from #22 will likely yield better 2nd round/additional picks anyways.
  13. Psst. VPN. Pssstttt. VPN. I've used Strong and Nord with reasonable happiness. Hated IPVanish (speed and drop issues and just buggy connections). Both Strong and Nord have FireTV apps (which is my preferred watching device). I use these mostly for work as I have clients in the US and EU/UK so both provide good international and US coverage (for MLB).
  14. One way to clean them up is to "quote"/reply to one of your previous posts, delete the "quote" and paste the image into the quote area. Then when it's posted most of the image is hidden and you can click on "expand" to see the details. Might help to reduce the image "space" for those using devices.
  15. I'm guessing that the issue is statistical noise when you go position by position where you have a much smaller sample to project. They seem to do better on the overall team projection where that statistical noise is averaged out. I would guess that there are going to be several positions where FG is over positive for the Brewers that at the end of the season (with likely better C and 1B results) end up close to their initial team projections.
  16. Watson has been all over the place on mocks and draft lists. His numbers are very attractive, but I think there's some concern about the level of competition. Hard for joe public to know how interviews/etc. will impact his final position. If the Packers can get their WR pick at #22 I would like them to trade down the #28 to somewhere early in the 3rd (35-40ish) pick up another 3rd round and take either Watson or Pickens or WR#2 here then use #53 and #59 on EDGE/OT/iDL. There could be a significant WR run between #28 and #53 and moving up from #53 will be costly, but moving down from #28 offers better value unless they have a non-WR that falls to them at #28 that they love. Hard to know how things shake out once the dance begins. I think there's a lot of unpredictability this year and it would be nice to get the WR you want early and let the rest fall into place. Especially with minimal cap to take on an expensive vet thru trade. Unless the just go BPA then trade future draft capital to get vet WR thru trade. Lots of variables and not enough equations!
  17. Someone has to be the Kevin King of a Mike Pettine Defense.
  18. I'm fine with it being pinned to the top of the "Milwaukee Brewer Talk" Forum as others have stated. I noticed that this thread appears as a "featured discussion" at the main "Forum" level. Would it work to have the current game day thread appear like that so when a person enters the forum area they can click on the game thread before entering a specific forum?
  19. No kidding! While I like the gratification of a grade from PFF, I like the trade function in PFN's simulator (it offers trades to YOU almost every pick (and multiple that you can select among of counter). There's also obviously a difference in their boards. For PFF I could draft Jameson Williams about 10% of the time, while for PFN he NEVER was available at 22. Here was one I did where I dropped down from both 1st round picks to add multiple early round picks:
  20. That's a really good point. Also, how much of that deal was the Packers bidding against the Chiefs? We don't know, but if the Packers said enough when asked for another offer then I give them credit for backing away. That's crazy money for someone who's had a GOAT throwing to him and yet couldn't ever make that next step.
  21. Playing around with pff draft simulator: Don't really know much about Diesch or Farrel, but Jelani Woods looked like a replacement for Mercedes Lewis. Went a bit WR crazy...
  22. IIRC, he hit fine at AAA last year, but struggled when back at MLB (early spring training is like AA ball - yes I made that up). What will really tell if he's improving is can he reduce his K% back to something like 30% as he was nearly 40% last year (with a corresponding drop in hard hit balls). So far signs are good and definitely encouraging, but we'll see when the level of pitching improves and his numbers are more than a few handful of PAs.
  23. My first thought after seeing those numbers (THANKS!) was is Story worth that money with a 112 OPS+. My second thought was that's compared to all hitters and SS are likely closer to mid-80s (my guess) for an average OPS+. Is there an OPS++ that also corrects for position so you can see how someone compares to other players at his position? I guess there's probably a summary of what is average for each position - Is there a place to "easily" (my easily means it's there and I don't have to do anything ) find that information?
