  1. A guy who sits at 90mph needs to have a filthy breaking ball to be a quality starter. I don't think Small qualifies. I'd like to be wrong.
  2. I think Small is our next Suter. Whether he does that in 2023 or 2024, I don't know.
  3. If they put Guerra at the backend of the bullpen at the beginning of the year, that would be bad.
  4. BTV has Wong's value as 0.1. So, the equivalent of a lower level minor leaguer who is a long shot to make the show.
  5. We must sign Bellinger so we have all the NL MVPs who went into the dumpster soon after winning MVP. More seriously, I don't know who Bellinger is any more. If he was a RHH and could platoon with Rowdy, it would make some sense.
  6. Lauer is a quality #3 starter, and he's our #4. I believe he's a significant part of us having a superior rotation. Like any player, if you get offered more than you think he's worth, you make the trade. I wouldn't be making any offers.

  8. Fixed. I don't got time for that. If anyone has a grudge with me, it's one-sided.
  9. After they didn't pick up the option on Boxberger ($2.25M), it was a fait accompli that Suter, who pitched lower-leverage innings, was gone at $3.1M. What I don't know is why did they waive him rather than just non-tender him?
  10. Why? We kept our higher-leverage but not closer reliever.
  11. People should just ignore you.
  12. I hope the Mariners don't use the BTV site. Because this is the kind of guy we could get: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=benite001jor He was sent to the AZ fall league where he did fine (though not many SO), but teams usually don't often send their best pitchers there. So, basically we'd avoid the $2M buyout and get a guy whom no one would get excited over. Clever way to get out of the buyout.

  14. I went to the MLB.com site and the wording of the rule is not clear to me. However, this caught my attention: That seems like a change that greatly limits the utility of making a rule 5 selection; effectively they have no options left because you have to waive them to send them back to the minors (in perpetuity, or at least the next season). So it only makes sense for players you feel you'll never demote (or you can work out a trade with the original team).
  15. Having Kelly on the 40 man is malfeasance in office for Arnold. Particularly if we lose Devanney.
  16. I don't think so, unless they changed the rule--he only has to stay in the majors in 2023. He has options. He could be kept on the 40 man in 2024 and spend it in the minors. And I hope you know I wasn't serious about pushing him down the stairs.
  17. He might be putting too much weight on the 106 exit velocity Quero put on a ball this fall. Like Mitchell, he'd have to redo his entire approach at the plate to hit 25 HRs like Smith has done.
  18. That assumes that every team has a lower estimation of Misiorowski than the Brewers do. Of course it's impossible to know for sure, but it seems unlikely. One of the rules of trading is to trade guys that the other team values more than you do.
  19. I thought he had a chance for a ML career.
  20. I don't get the Will Smith comp at all. I don't think Quero will ever have that power.
  21. Nunez is a possibility, though he'd probably be a wasted roster spot in 2023 (He's a baby). I don't think any of the pitchers could be kept on the roster all season. I think Kelley might eventually be a solid #2 starter, but he won't be ready for even limited use in 2023. Morris is far worse than Cam Devanney, whom the Brewers exposed in the rule 5 draft, so they're certainly not keeping Morris on the 26 man roster.
  22. I know a guy who could push him down a flight of stairs. Keep him on rehab assignment the whole year.
  23. Thanks for starting this thread. Here's a couple I found reading articles where fans are crying about the players their team left unprotected. This guy is a RHH 1B/3B (mostly at 3B) who spent 239 ABs on the NYY AA team hitting 19 HR during that time. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=chapar000and This guy is a LHH C (who can play some OF) and made it to Pittsburgh's AAA for 101 AB. Probably not great in the field (17% CS in his minor league career) but has hit great. But could be a third catcher/utility guy. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=sabol-000bla
