  1. I believe next year is closer to an "all-in" year rather than a "start over" year. so we keep (at least most of) our rotation. Our excess is at promising minor league OFs, so we should consider moving one of them in a trade to help us elsewhere. Frelick and Chourio are the ones I don't want to lose. We could use a corner-infielder/DH. If we can replace Tellez or move Urias to a 2b/utility role, that would be great. McCutchen and Davis should be gone. Frelick replaces one. The other is replaced by a signee or someone from the farm. If we can resign Taylor Rogers to a decent contract (2 years @ 7M or less), we do; otherwise we find the best guy we can at that price. The improvement comes from our existing pitching (which has underperformed this year), or the marginal changes we make. If Frelick get's promoted and hits .290, and the pitching performs, I think we're in great shape.
  2. I'd like about half of them to re-sign, though I don't think any of them warrant protection. I think Monasterio could be a AAAA utility player like Mathias or Reyes.
  3. I was expecting the two things to be: 1) control; 2) command.
  4. Please, wRC+ isn't that hard to understand. If you understood it, it would clearly be sufficient to show that Hiura has outperformed McCutchen. There's no argument against it. The only argument is if you think Hiura will stop performing as he has (with more ABs) or if you think McCutchen will get hot, but those can only be based on hunches, not actual performance.
  5. Unless they have a chance to sign someone better at a reasonable cost, they should definitely keep Renfroe. He's got the highest OPS of qualified batters and he's not a complete hack in the outfield--he has 9 assists this year. McCutchen is the one that's going.
  6. He made a ton of errors as an infielder. Very few as an OF. He's not a butcher, and he can recover with his speed, but he doesn't have the instincts of guys who came up playing CF.
  7. I really hope that the professional scouts that work for the team have a greatly different assessment than you do.
  8. you called Ruiz Perez in the first paragraph of your article.

    1. Joseph Zarr

LOL. That’s not good eh? Thanks for the heads up.

  9. but it's not like it would take much to improve on him either. They should get whichever hitter they can get, and maybe send one of our players back. If McCutchen is the one who's replaced, so be it.

  11. there are plenty of good CF who don't have great arms. he'd be a bad OF even if he had a better arm.

  13. I think you guys are giving too much credence to Lamet's 4th in the Cy Young voting--it was 2020 and he only had 12 starts.
  14. The contrast isn't between Hiura and Adames, it should be between Hiura and Severino. Please trade Severino!
  15. the brewers didn't come off a sweep. I wonder if we can work out a deal for any of the Red Sox before they leave town.
  16. Small and a few spare parts should be sufficient to get someone decent. That should be the first choice.
  17. It's a good deal for the brewers, as long as he doesn't suffer a catastrophic injury or his command gets worse.
  18. Benintendi is hitting far better than he ever has (AVE .317, OBP .386). He'll likely regress. And since Taylor is back, Davis won't be playing that much. And Benintendi is pretty bad in CF; Taylor is significantly better.
  19. There is a Benintendi thread only partway down the Transaction Rumor page. He's a decent player, but unless you think he can play adequate CF (or McCutchen can), he's not a great fit.
  20. Severino has such a small sample size, I think the only grade he deserves in Incomplete. But I'd trade him for anything at this point. If we need a 3rd catcher after rosters expand, we have options at Nashville.
  21. Obviously it would be good to have an improvement at any position. You could write an article like this about any of our players. But it's more expensive to improve on a player who has been adequate than one who has been abysmal. And I don't even think Bell is a good option to replace Rowdy. He's not a good first baseman, and this year seems to be a fluke.
  22. I don't know how you got that I suggested we go all in next year. Maybe delete me from that article.

  24. Yeah, I didn't remember the draft went to 20 rounds. It won't be as big a problem as I thought.
  25. Lots of guys will be moving around across the system, I guess, once they sign the draftees. Some guys will get promoted, some guys will get demoted or put on ice, and some will be ending their affiliated baseball careers.
