I'm not surprised Severino cleared waivers. I am surprised his agent couldn't get him a gig with a big league club. -
A team full of average hitters is fine, if your rotation and back end of the bullpen are dominant. The rotation and bullpen are doing to determine how far this team goes.

It's hilarious that CC PH-ed Tellez to keep Hiura from hitting vs a RHP (which he crushes) and Tellez made an out. And then later, against an LHP, Tellez hits a HR.

This is what is infuriating. I get starting Hiura sometimes vs. LHP, but for God's sake, don't PH for him against RHP, which he's been crushing. I know Tellez's splits are pretty strong this season, but over his career his platoon splits are small.

decades of experience with similar players says the chance he'll have of being a long-term contributor is nearly nil. Like I said, fine to have him in AAA in case of an emergency, and who knows, he could be one of the exceptions.

Moore and Brown at 2b and SS at Carolina. What are the odds they'll be playing those positions in MKE in 3-4 years?

Lamet pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies. 0 R, 2 SO, 2 singles, a wild pitch. Got over 96mph. Ended up pitching the 9th too, no runs no hits no strikeouts.

to be fair, one of his appearances was only one pitch.

Boushley is a AAAA player (or will be once he gets a cup of coffee with a major league team). Nothing wrong with him as an emergency option for a few games and a dozen innings, but he should be in no ones plans for the future. No guarantee he'll be back next year. He's also a RHP, so not a good replacement for Suter, even though he has consistently had reverse splits.

Reasons for optimism: 1) Peralta is closer to full effectiveness. 2) Nice game for the bullpen. 3) Mikolos got destroyed against the Rockies (2.2 IP, 14H, 10r), and if he's back to mediocrity that means a couple less wins going forward than if he continued to pitch like he did earlier in the year. 4) 5R on only 7H without any HR.

He's a good get for the Cubs. If he gets things sorted out, they get a player who can contribute for a couple of years. If he doesn't, it's only money they're giving up.

He's one of the draftees I have high hopes for.

Please, wRC+ isn't that hard to understand. If you understood it, it would clearly be sufficient to show that Hiura has outperformed McCutchen. There's no argument against it. The only argument is if you think Hiura will stop performing as he has (with more ABs) or if you think McCutchen will get hot, but those can only be based on hunches, not actual performance.

While Hader>Rogers, Bush>> the AAAA guys they've been cycling though the roster. If Rogers and Bush were performing to expectations, it would be an improvement.
