  1. This is the one I saw in regards to fouling https://bestballstats.com/2022/10/12/foul-up-3-or-defend-analyzing-late-game-strategy/
  2. I echo your sentiment re: scUM. Gard made it sound as if they did try to foul the dribbler up the court but didn't get a call? I agree that you don't foul with 2 seconds left. I just really don't like how they allowed an uncontested 3 in that spot, just switch everything on the perimeter and contest the shot. FYI. I believe there is an ongoing study of the up by 3 points end of game scenarios: play-it-out versus fouling, and the outcomes are about the same either way, the team up 3 wins 94%-95% of the time.
  3. I believe Branch is the only true safety with a first round grade. Johnson, I've read, is looked at as more of a slot corner in the NFL. I'd guess Branch goes pretty high.
  4. Should be Shaka and not even close. Less clear about POY, but Kolek is no doubt deserving of that honor.
  5. This thought has crossed my mind many times. My only answer is that it will maybe catch up to them as it did for Bobby Knight years ago. Knight had to choke a player though before it really started to impact his recruiting as I recall.
  6. Looks like Wiemer went to work in the weight room again this offseason. Quite the physical specimen. Hope we see him in Milwaukee this season
  7. Total D-bag. Not sure who I dislike more between Juwan or Fran. I guess Fran hasn't thrown a haymaker at an opposing coach yet...
  8. I share your despair. The family spent some time this year in Nashville for New Year's, thankfully we stayed downtown. We did however take the kids to see the ice sculpture exhibit at Opryland. We ended up leaving right away. It probably didn't help that it was full of Kentucky football fans for the Music City Bowl game either.
  9. Can't believe you jinxed Giannis like that. The best thing about all this depth is giving Holliday, Giannis, and Lopez, who have logged big minutes so far this year, a little breather going into the playoffs.
  10. I'm curious what you all think of "Last of Us," so far? I am not a gamer so I'm not sure where it's going but I'm enjoying it.
  11. I share many of your thoughts on the future of the program. We will have to see what happens with incoming and outgoing transfers, and with Wahl, to know what needs they will have to fill. I agree with much of your analysis of the incoming class. Gus is probably the most equipped to come in and contribute. I'm into comps so I'll share my Gus comp- he reminds me very much of a kid who played at LSU about 20 years ago by the name of Glen "Big Baby" Davis. Similar physique, wing span, soft hands, great footwork, smooth shooter and soft touch. If anything, Gus has more tools in the tool-kit at a similar age. I don't recall Glen Davis being a good perimeter shooter or post threat- he was deadly face-up from mid-range though. I think Winter could contribute if pressed into duty, but he would most certainly benefit from a year of S&C. Blackwell is physically ready and could contribute, I just don't see the minutes for him next year with Klesmit and Davis playing a similar role. He needs to continue to develop his shot and would likely benefit from a RS year.
  12. Must have win for the Badgers v. Iowa. I think they showed some improvement overall. I liked Hepburn getting in the lane and making some things happen. Wahl is starting to have more impact on the boards especially, but also with his offense in the post. I think you have to also take into consideration that Iowa played pretty terrible too. Iowa's poor overall defense and jacking-up missed 3's all night helped the Badger's cause in this one.
  13. Nice win last night against a quality, well coached, opponent on the road. I thought Shaka made a great adjustment at halftime with the offense. The first half offense was pretty reliant on Kolek's dribble, drive, and dish and didn't seem to get into a good flow or create many open looks. In the second half they played more through Igoudala with either a high pick-and-roll or fed him in the high post. This seemed to open up the offense more for good looks at the basket and they capitalized. They also turned up the defensive intensity in the second half.
  14. A bit off baseball topic, but the name Naquin is pronounced (Nah-can) in the deep south. I have heard it pronounced (Nay- Kwin) over the years by the media and announcers. I know he is from SE Texas and played college ball at Texas A&M, so I'm just guessing he might pronounce his last name as (Nah-can) too, but I'm not sure about that.
  15. Has anyone come across any Bobby Portis news and when he is likely to return? I'm looking forward to seeing what becomes of this team at full strength and with the Crowder and Leonard additions.
  16. This seems pretty accurate. I believe this team averages 1 block a game. They are getting outrebounded by their opponents by an average of 5 boards a game. I think they are also getting outscored in the paint for the season too. To me it points to a glaring weakness along that frontline that isn't going to be addressed by the current bench guys, incoming bigs, or Crowl improving alone. Crowl averages 7+ boards and 0.5 blocks per game. In my opinion they need someone to address the rim protection/shot altering missing component. I agree those guys are hard to get- even in the portal and with NIL.
  17. I Agree. I'm guessing the reason why Gard could not secure the commitment from that Basile kid who is now putting up nice numbers for VA Tech is because Basile probably didn't see enough guaranteed minutes on this team.
  18. I post about sports nowhere but here. I know my profile shows a newer member with few posts, but I have been a member here for over 20 years- I just created a new profile instead of transferring over my old one. And I don't enjoy posting all that much, I more enjoy lurking. There are some really informed members here. Badger sites are pretty brutal for discussion IMO. I belong to a couple sites but don't post anywhere. Maybe Buckyville sometimes is OK. I have not found any Packer or Bucks sites worth posting on either.
  19. I think I did some damage to my aorta on this sequence- it was brutal- took points off the board, Hepburn receives another foul, no free throws and lose possession.
  20. What I have respected most about the Badger basketball program over the last 25 years is the recruiting and development you reference and I am in no way advocating for that to change. I am high on the incoming class and hopeful for the potential 24' and 25' classes as well. My comment about looking at the portal is just for next year given the current state of the roster. Gard gave an interview/presser recently about the subject and said something to the effect of- I'm not naïve, I know we need to be longer and more athletic, regardless, we need more depth there... Many observers took that as he is open to looking in the portal for front court help this offseason. I would be in favor of that. I don't see how the current roster makes the drastic improvement necessary or the incoming bigs make that much of an impact for next years team to be much better than this year.
  21. This has been a theme with this team much of the year it seems. Pretty frustrating to watch, yet if they even get close to an average game scoring from either Hepburn or Essegian they could have pulled off the win. I am trying to be hopeful about next year, but the recruiting class while solid is likely not going to have someone step up and improve them that much. I think they are really going to need to hit the transfer portal for an experienced player or two.
  22. Not a big Marquette fan, but I have tuned in to some games. It's hard not to like how Coach Smart has this team playing. Gold has all the makings of a potential star for this team in the future and has exhibited some pretty elite skills. I think this team could make a decent run in the tournament barring the potential match ups.
  23. Seems obvious to me that Wahl is still struggling with the ankle. He has no lateral movement and gets beat off the dribble pretty consistently. He is also having trouble elevating and finishing in the post. I wish Gard would have went with McGee at the point with Hepburn, Essegian, Klesmit also on the floor with one big. When the ball came into the post it was usually Wahl's or Gilmore's man that doubled the post, so the open shooter on the perimeter who the ball was kicked out to was not a good perimeter shooter.
  24. I think it was that Luke Fickell wanted to give the spotlight to Jim Leonhard and the players IIRC. Great point though as CLF is not only breathing new life into the program he also seems like an authentically good guy.
  25. I believe those rankings are based on points and the more recruits you have signed the higher the points/ranking. Wisconsin only signed 15 recruits which places them below several teams that have signed more recruits. I think the class looks a little better if you look at average points per recruit.
