  1. I for one feel good about this series, and tonights game in particular. I think we can get to Williams and force STL to put up 6-7 runs to win, which most nights is no problem for them but I think Vic can throw a beauty tonight and get us back on the winning track. We have 5 more games on this road trip and I see us going 3-2 to get back to 3 games over .500 heading into the next homestand.
  2. Dan Kolb, your 2004 All Star Game MVP.
  3. Kolb on the mound. This inning is as good as over. Kolb rules so hard.
  4. Wow, Clemens is getting torched. When was the last time a starting pitcher failed to make it out of the first?
  5. Anyone know if tickets are still available??
  6. I'll say this for the fourth time this series. The most disturbing thing about this series is that we play the NL Central for like the next month straight, and we just got swept by the worst team of the bunch, with probably the worst offense, and just mediocre pitching...now we play the Cubs, Reds, and other NL Central foes. If the Pirates handle us like this... Lets just say I have been fearing these Cubs games all year long. I was really hoping to take 2 out of 4 vs. the Pirates so we'd still be 7 over when we faced the Cubs. Wrigley North should be a hoping place these next 6 weeks. Spivey's injury us terrible for us, because I really didnt think we needed to get another RH bat, I thought we could tweak from within. I still oppose trading parts of the future for a chance to win this year...there are too many teams competing for one playoff spot. Along the trade talk lines, this is a perfect example why we SHOULDNT trade for a bat, because even with an extra bat we needed about 7 runs a game to win anything this series. WE may be an afterthought come July 31, and by trading Parra, or DLR or Nelson or Krynzel would be worthless if we fell out of the race. The Brewers wont say it, but I will, I realistically am hoping for a winning season, and not much else. If we play .500 baseball the rest of the way out I will be thrilled. PS. I'd bring up the fact that I warned about the Pitts Series to be a la 2001, but then again, about half of Brewer Nation predicted this egg laying incident
  7. I don't think people would be as upset if we hadn't just played like a bunch of 8th graders against the Pirates, and I also think that people are voicing their frustrations over the fact that the Pirates OWN us. If almost any other team in the NL had taken two off us yesterday I don't think the uproar would be as loud.
  8. Please. The fact that luck exists in baseball and the belief that clutch hitters exist are entirely unrelated. I agree that baseball is a mental game as well as a physical one. But that doesn't mean that myths like the "clutch hitter" are true. Bill - I agree with a lot of things you bring up but I just can't let this one go. One of the biggest characteristics of an athletes ability is his ability to "clutch up" or perform under pressure. Believe me, in every sport, when the game is on the line, in Baseball, Basketball, Football, etc. there is a third baseman praying that the ball is not hit to him, a pinch hitter hoping he doesnt get the call, a shooting guard hoping the coach isnt drawing up a play with his number on it with 2.1 left on the clock, and a WR that hopes the deep post to the endzone is run by the X receiver, not the Z. Mental toughness is a huge part of the game. Hitting in clutch situations a mental thing and to pretend that it doesnt exist is silly. I am not saying that the 2004 BRewers are not clutch, per se, but the mental aspect of the game is there in every nook and cranny. Just as much as luck and addition and subtraction.
  9. Josh Fogg pitches well against the Brewers. Therefore, clutch hitting exists. Indeed and then Matt Wise's line tonight is horrible. Still, he was a victim of some bad luck... I firmly believe that both luck, and clutch hitting (i.e. the mental part of the game) are just as much of a factor in a teams success as adding a bunch of numbers to determine who is the best players to start.
  10. I just posted about my disgust and confusion about why we cannot beat Pitt in the game one thread, but I will repeat some here. Even though they (Pittsburgh) stink and our roster changes every year, we cannot beat them. I mean, it isnt like there are the same players out there and they cannot beat Pitt, like it is a mental thing. This is getting really disturbing.
  11. Pittsburgh owns us. No matter how bad they are they own us. They have owned us since we became NL, and every year they get worse, and we change our entire roster. GO Figure.
  12. Dont forget the last time we swept a team this late in the season, with a winning record, and then went to Pittsburgh?? We got swept, and it was a 4 game series I think. I'll feel a lot better if we can split tomorrow. I hate playing Pittsburgh, they can throw out a bunch of old blind men ( i think they have at one time havent they?) and still give us hell. DONT LET UP THIS WEEKEND!!!
  13. Hey guys, dont feel so bad, we still have a healthy OPS with runners in scoring position, and that isall that matters.
  14. Is a Single better than a HR? Hell no. My point - lately we have not EVEN BEEN MAKING CONTACT when we need one run to tie or win a game. And, yes, I gave ONE example, but OPS can be misleading because we could be up 5-1 with a runner on 2nd and hit a HR, then in the next 4 games be down by one with RISP and less than two outs and K or pop out each time and lose all 4 games. Now, the HR inflates the OPS and we can all sleep better knowing that we arent slumping in clutch situations because our OPS is decent. Yeah right, that makes sense.
  15. Sometimes, when it is late, and you are down by one run, in the ninth, with your two fastest runners on 2nd and 3rd, a single is just as good as a HR. Sometimes.
  16. If the Brewers were taking walks or even hitting sac flies with RISP with less than 2 outs I wouldnt be knocking on OPS with RISP. But, they aren't. They are sucking big time with Runners on 3rd and nobody out or one out. Yeah, OPS is a nice stat, but don't you think that it is a alarming that we are hitting below .230 with RISP above only Montreal?? Sometimes I think that OPS blinds a lot of smart people. Just like there is more to a hitter than average and hits, OPS isn't a tell all either. Let's face it, does it really matter if a guy is 2-5 with RISP with two singles or 1-4 with a walk and a triple? No, except the guy who walked didnt get the guy in from third with less than two outs.
  17. Gotta be about time to post what the Brewers OPS is with runners in scoring position in order to say that Milwaukee is not that bad with RISP, right?? Before the 0-10 their BATTING AVERAGE was .231, second to last in the NL. The only team worse was Montreal. OPS isn't the greatest stat when talking about being clutch.
  18. With the glove and the bat Luis Rivas has looked like Robbie Alomar circa 1996 this series. Ouch.
  19. Which Pods would you rather have?? .314/.379 43 SBs 10 HRs or .270/.350 60 SBs 22 HRs ??? probably #1 but it is close
  20. Meanwhile, the Twins are getting their hacks in against Obermueller, 1-0 so far through 1 2/3 and 4 hits...gotta get some runs.
  21. I think a good time to give Po some time off is on the road, and the upcoming series in Colorado would make sense. But it'll never happen.
  22. We only have Ned to blame for this one. Yes, Kinney sucks and he can't get out major league hitters but neither can I and if Ned put me in to get guys out in a tie game it'd be Ned's fault for doing that as well. Matt Kinney cannot get Major League hitters out, and I'd guess that he couldnt get the guys out who acted in the movie Major League.
  23. Where is Mike Adams? When was the last time he pitched? How about Burba? How about anyone but Kinney and Bennett with the team still in the game?
  24. What?? Brady Clark thrown out stealing?? Now I've seen it all.
  25. Well, it would appear that Chris Capuano is going to start tomorrow. So, who goes down? Insert tastless joke here.
