  1. At first glance, one has to wonder about the strength of the Big East. Villanova was very lucky to beat the 15 seed in OT Georgetown had their lunches handed to them Marquette lost to a team from the worst of the BCS Conferences Notre Dame loses to an 11 in Old Dominion Now, maybe tomorrow Syracuse, West Virginia, Louisville and Pitt will make everyone forget about today, but Yikes, I firmly believed it was the best conference, but maybe that is just because ESPN told me so...
  2. No, this one the cards are regular trading card types, I think they may have even been made by TOPPS, however, the game was not licensesd by MLB so all the logos are air brushed off the hats and so forth. On the backs of the cards there are the stats from 1983 and then all of the various dice combinations from snake eyes to box cars and an outcome (i.e. single, double, out, k, double play, etc) associated with each outcome, different for each player based on their career stats (i.e. Reggie Jackson was 4x likely to roll a HR than Ozzie Smith).
  3. Sheets didnt have Tommy John surgery or shoulder surgery. He had a torn flexor tendon in his elbow.
  4. I just did ESPN's "BracketCaster" which is run by AccuScore or something. My final 4 was Maryland, Syracuse, Wisconsin, Duke. Wisconsin beat Syracuse for the title.
  5. Ben Sheets? http://endingb.net/images/toast.png
  6. The Midwest if loaded and I cant really see an excuse as to why all those teams ended up in one bracket. 1. Kansas 2. Ohio State 3. Georgetown 4. Maryland 5. Michigan State 6. Tennessee Are you kidding me?
  7. How can people without HBO get access to this show?
  8. That sounds right, although Ron Kittle is pretty easy to forget. That would give me 4 shortstops and 8 Ofs. Anyone else have this game or remember playing it?
  9. Doing some thinking back, perhaps Tony Gwynn and Paul Molitor? EDIT - Not Gwynn. he hadnt even played full season before 1984. Looking at the 1983 All Star teams though got me thinking. Perhaps Tim Raines and Jim Rice. I have 14 Al and 14 NL players, so it is one from each league.
  10. I was just in my basement looking through some of junk trying to find some old baseball cards for my 3 year old son to look at and I came across 28 of the 30 cards from this game. I used to LOVE this game as a kid. My dad and I would play it, and later I would play with my little brother. Basically you got a "team", either NL or AL and would roll two dice, on the back of the cards were various dice combinations that would result in a hit, out, etc. Here are the cards that I have...who am I missing? 1. Darrell Porter 2. Carlton Fisk 3. Gary Carter 4. Ted Simmons 5. Rod Carew 6. Pete Rose 7. Steve Garvey 8. Cecil Cooper 9. Steve Sax 10. Lou Whitaker 11. Robin Yount 12. Ozzie Smith 13. Cal Ripken, Jr. 14. George Brett 15. Wade Boggs 16. Bill Madlock 17. Mike Schmidt 18. Pedro Guerrero 19. Dale Murphy 20. Dave Winfield 21. Reggie Jackson 22. Al Oliver 23. Andre Dawson 24. Rickey Henderson 25. Fernando Valenzuela 26. Ron Guidry 27. Steve Carlton 28. Dave Steib 29. ???????? 30. ??????? Anyone else remember this game? Who am I missing?
  11. Had this typed and cued up..."There goes Ohio State's chance at a #1 seed. " Then March Madness happened.
  12. Lets not be greedy HW. I dont want to see this thread on the first page again until at least early December. Just seeing it reappear now gave me pause for concern. Perhaps if we let it slide of the first page for good Mother Nature will forget that she is able to dump plenty of snow on us in March and we can continue on with temps in the mid 40s or better and onto April.
  13. Milton Bradley - 31 flavors of crazy.
  14. It was a joke, but I'll fix it for clarity.
  15. http://www.mlbtraderumors...-tommy-john-surgery.html A torn ulnar collateral ligament. It sounds like he needs the surgery but might try to pitch through it instead. Total bummer for the Twinkies. The curse of Target field perhaps?
  16. So Edmonds is this year's Trot Nixon or Gabe Kapler? Having been far to busy to follow the afternoon game stat lines, what are his chances of making this team as the 4th/5th OF with Gerut as the other possibility?
  17. It was the only thing he could find to match his hideous bow-tie?
  18. I couldnt believe the speech by the Costume Design Winner. I about fell out of my chair. The only nominees for best picture I saw were Basterds, An Education, Up and A Serious Man. I thought A Serious Man was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Ever. I loved an Education and Basterds was what a best picture winner should look like. That said I am glad Avatar did not win. I think Sandra Bullock is ok, but I was pulling for Streep in the best picture category. She really made Julie/Julia an enjoyable film and did a great job becoming Julia Childs. With all the talk of her losing 13 times I thought there might be a revived push for her to win another award - which I think she deserves, I mean she hasnt won one since, what 1982? I guess In a little put off by the predictability this year, but at least I thought the winners (Waltz, Bridges, Mo'Nique) were well deserved. All in all I enjoyed the evening though.
  19. Latest Bracketology has UW as a 5 seed playing St. Mary's in the first round. That would be a poor draw for them.
  20. Keep Carlos Gonzalez, I might keep him over Beckham even. I'd let Posey go.
  21. I guess how their careers played out, but to each their own.
  22. I completely forgot about Gary Sheffield. Yeah, he should definitely be on the list, and since a majority of his games were played in RF in his career I would put him there in place of Jenkins. Otherwise you could shift Molitor to DH and slide Sheffield to 3b since he did play 6 seasons there. Also, the comments about Gantner are duly noted, although I am not sure Loretta should be the guy to replace him - Gantner is on Loretta's list of most similar batters on baseball-reference.com. Someone else mentioned Vina, but he came up in a different system.
  23. As part of their 30 teams in 30 days, the MLB Network is doing an all time home grown team for each team's episode. The Brewers episode is set for March 20th. Who would be on your Brewers Franchise Home Grown Team? C - Darrell Porter 1b- Prince Fielder 2b- Jim Gantner SS- Robin Yount 3b- Paul Molitor LF- Ryan Braun CF- Gorman Thomas RF- Geoff Jenkins DH - Greg Vaughn SP- Ben Sheets CL- Dan Plesac
  24. Dont hire a photographer. We passed on that and saved tons. Instead we had two people who we knew and trusted (with their interest in photography) take photos with our and their cameras. A couple roles of black and white and a digital....in the end we have an album full of fantastic pictures, many of which were taken by friends and family and are candid and arent overly posed. I would not have done it any other way. #2 - Dont serve a meal. Im not saying dont serve food, just dont do the over-done sit down meal thing. We had 3 or 4 large tables around our reception with tons of hors d'oeuvres and apps. It was more of a party atmosphere rather than sitting a table with 5 05 6 other people, it got people mingling a lot more and I think we might have saved money on that.
  25. 5x5 regular categories. Keeper League. I can keep Manny Ramirez as a 3rd round keeper. If I dont keep him, the likely players that would available with the pick I would have for not keeping him would be Adam Dunn, Tori hunter, Carlos Lee, Bobby Abreu, Raul Ibanez, Alfonso Soriano. #1 - Would you keep Manny #2 - Top 3 Of of those players remaining for 2010 (not beyond).
