  1. I dont see how "proving your health" playing indy ball for 3 months for next to nothing is any different than "proving your health" playing for the BRewers for 6 months and getting paid 5 million dollars to do it, with incentives. If anything, signing for one year and 5-6 million, plus incentives is a much, much better idea because he is just as likely to get hurt pitching for the Brewers as he is the St. Paul Saints. The Indy Ball suggestion makes no sense.
  2. I was watching Fox 11 out of Green Bay. I dont know if it was a new HD Seinfeld or SDTV. I was watching it on the DTV channel. So far it has been the only show that has been herky-jerky. It made it almost impossible to watch.
  3. I just got a 37" Samsung LCD HDTV 1080P today and while I was watching Seinfeld this evening the picture was very herky-jerky. No other shows that I watched today had this problem. Not even Magnum P.I. What gives?
  4. So I got my TV today, if anyone was wondering if this place was legit. 37inches is huge compared to what I used to have (a 19" and 27" old fashion TVs). The DTV signal and the HDTV is pretty slick. I have never really seen HDTV before but it really noticeable. I get CBS, FOX, ABC and NBC as HD channels, along with two other stations put out by the ABC affiliate out of GB (WBAY) one of which is a 24 hour weather radar station, the other apparently shows 80s dramas, which is cool (A-Team, Incredible Hulk, Kojack, Simon and Simon, etc.) I'll put my HDTV questions into another thread.
  5. I have nightmares that weeks pulls an "Adrian Beltre" and stinks it up every year until his last year of arby when he goes .290/.400/.500 and walks away to a huge payday. I am pretty sure I would try to sign Rickie to a 4 year deal that would buyout one year of Free Agency if I could.
  6. I could see the BoSox, Yankees, Mets or Dodgers signing him to a deal, his upside is so huge and they always seem to have more money to spend. I like the fact that Melvin still won't admit that they have closed the door on Sheets, I think there is still a slight chance that he comes back to Milwaukee (fingers crossed). At this point, unless there is an injury, I dont see the Red Sox or Yankees signing Sheets, unless Ben wants to pitch out of the bullpen, which cant be that good for his future earning capacity. The Mets seemed as though it were Perez or Sheets and they just overpaid by quite a bit for Sheets. The Dodgers have Kershaw, Billingsly and Kuroda at the top of their rotation and seem close to signing Randy Wolf for the #4 spot. Sheets could make sense as a fifth arm in the rotation but they are also committed to Jason Schmidt who is supposedly healthy this time. That leaves the only other team that has kicked the tires as the Texas Rangers. I do not see any other team but the Rangers coming in on Sheets at this point.
  7. Did he say "idear" And really? Terminator 4? Oof, enough already, I submit.
  8. The only question I have is, if Sheets does not sign with Texas, then who does he sign with?
  9. The thing is, by adding Peavy, the Brewers address or render moot many of those questions. If the Brewers are going to try and add a Peavy-esque player at the deadline if they are in it anyway, why not just add him now and have him the entire year. There is a chance that w/o Peavy they are a .500 team, but with him they could threaten 90 wins and make the playoffs.
  10. The hardest part is that at the end of the SuperBowl, there will be a definite winner and so people can get invested in that way. With the World Series you dont have that unless it is game 7, and then if game 7 is on a Wednesday night (or any other night Monday-Thursday) then people have to work the next morning. The next problem with the Series is that from game to game you do not know how long the series will last - 4 games, 5 games, 6? 7?, whereas the Superbowl is scheduled years in advance and once the two teams are in it, there are two weeks of hoopla. Toss in that it is always in a warm (exception Detroit), neutral site and that the 2 weeks prior and the party are as big as the game and you have created an atmosphere you cannot recreate with baseball.
  11. The paper in Oshkosh this morning had a story about how January was the 9th coldest January on record, and that we can expect below average temps to continue for at least the next three weeks, with also below average precipitation.
  12. I bet it would be darn near impossible for us diehards to call a Cubs-Brewers game for the Cubs, but we are not professional broadcasters either. Sure, this guy could be a professional and call a good game and not let an iota of his Cub love shine through in any of the 16-18 games we play against the Cubs, but you KNOW he is hiding his Cub love and is probably secretly pulling for the Cubs to win...and that just burns me up. The insincerity would be tough to deal with.
  13. Tell that to Sabathia and Burnett. If Sheets were healthy he would have been in Burnett's place in New York. Even Lowe eventually got his money.
  14. So a player is going to sit out until June and then, what, sign a 2 year deal for the rest of '09 and '10, only they would only get paid for half of 2009, thereby negating a quarter of the value of the contract. If Ben Sheets wants a 2 year 18 million dollar deal and he signs that deal on June 15th, wouldnt he really be getting a 2 year 13.5 million dollar deal? Since so few teams are at risk of actually losing a first round pick at this point, I dont see how waiting until June helps anyone. It doesnt even come into play for Abreu and Dunn.
  15. Why will it be worse than '06? We are heading into 2009 with just about the same team we went into 2008 with, minus Ben Sheets. Hopefully improvement and consistency from Parra and Bush and a full season from Gallardo more than makes up for it though.
  16. 3 for 27 for sheets is STILL a no brainer because that amount of money figures into it injury time. If healthy Ben is worth 15-20 million on the open market. If he pitches 150 innings of 3.20 ERA baseball and a 4:1 K:BB ratio, then 8-9 million a year is easily what he is worth. Ben Sheets still has tremendous value even if he makes 22 starts and pitches 150 innings. Just plan on that, pay him accordingly and if he stays healthy you are getting a great deal.
  17. So I dont know why but this morning felt like THE COLDEST morning yet. Yes, I know it isnt colder than it was 2 weeks ago, but it surely felt much colder. Also, I love how the weatherman keeps putting mid to upper 20s into the forecast about 4-5 days out and as we get closer those numbers fall to 20...then 18...then 15....then 10. Give me a break. This weekend started off in the 30s about 5 days ago and this morning they are calling for 25 tomorrow. I am sure tonight the weatherman will amend that to 18 degrees. Then all next week looks like highs between 10-15 and lows around 0. So if the average high is 25 degrees, and we have been between 0-12 degrees for the past month or so, does that mean that we'll be 12-24 degrees ABOVE normal for February? Someone help me out, I cannot take much more of this!!*^$*($*!@@!!!!!
  18. Considering that at the all star break Sheets was headed for a 5 year deal for at least 75 million in total I think a 3 yr deal for 21-27 million total would be a real steal. 2 for 15 or 16 even better.
  19. I'd take a flyer on Mulder for something minimal, either a minor league deal or if he wanted guaranteed money then a 1yr 1 mil deal with a sweet team option if he can put it together. If he is healthy he could be a sub 5.00 ERA pitcher, or another McClung, which is fine, we need the depth at this point.
  20. Since you are working at the "Zero" this year, or Harvard on the Fox as we Oshkonians like to call it, I would go to someone in the Radio/TV/Film department. I know Oshkosh has a VERY good Radio/TV/Film reputation and I know a lot of my wife's former students who were R/T/V majors have gone on to some pretty sweet gigs in LA/Hollywood. I am sure someone there can help you either directly or put you in touch with someone who can. My wife might be able to get you some names so shoot her an email (I told her about your idea this morning). Good luck.
  21. Ben has never had a problem pitching well, when healthy. I 3 year deal is not out of the question but the base is likely to be very low, 5 million a year or so, with innings pitched incentives to bring it over 10 per season. The problem with that is, you might have a guy who is really hurting and not telling anyone to, then going out and sucking just because he wants to get to his IP incentive.
  22. Fixed it for you. There has been a small contingent that has been anti-Sheets since about 2006, the disappear during the 150-200 innings a year he pitches and show up to complain when he gets hurt. I think most people would love to have Sheets back, as his risk of injury is about the same as any pitcher.
  23. Might as well get a 30-pack of Bud Ice or something, I voted.
