  1. I dont think music snobs hate all popular music. That being said popular music is not any differant than popular movies. The music and movies that sell the most copies/tickets are generally brainless, highly processed, pop. Just look at movies like "Wild Hogs", "Norbit", "TMNT", "Spiderman", Pirates of the Carribean", etc etc. They rake in the money and they really are very formulaic, just like the stuff Bon Jovi puts out. And when they really make a lot of money they just remake the movie, only usually worse and slip a "II" next to the name. For example, Spiderman II, Pirates II, George Bush II, etc etc. Is that Bad? Heck no. I'm up for some color-by-numbers, A+B=C, Romantic Comedies or Action/Thrillers now and again, they are entertaining. I can shut my brain off and enjoy them, but once I am done watching them, or listening to the music, it is pretty much forgotten because it is like 100 hundred others bands/songs/movies made that year. Of course movies and music appeal to people's taste, everybody's taste differs and you are always going to think your taste in movies/music is the best because that is what you like. Taking an objective viewpoint though, there are certain types of movies and/or music that appeal the broadest audience and that music/movie is made to do just that - and make lots and lots of money. There is nothing wrong with that whatsoever, it just isnt overly stimulating or interesting.
  2. 1. Bon Jovi stinks 2. They are a great choice for Summerfest. I bet they sell out ASAP and have one of the best concerts of the week. Good call Summerfest.
  3. I think all .900 OPS shortstops are overrated.
  4. Hmm. An in-game thread mostly whining about the people calling the game. Looks like Brewerfan.net is in regular season form already.
  5. Who pitched the 3rd inning for the Brewers?
  6. Anyone doing a play-by-play thing for this game? I know the Cubs have two runs.
  7. yeah I cant get at the audio either....
  8. . That is an awful idea. The Brewers could release him and it wouldnt cost us money or another player.
  9. Brian, maybe you could create a link such as the lambeau leap icon above.
  10. I'd offer something more like Ron Belliard, Tyler Houston, Jeffrey Hammonds, Henry Blanco, Nick Nuegebauer, nd Jeff D'Amico for Manny Ramirez, of course this trade would have had to have been made on Opening Day, or right before, 2001 but it would be about the same, if not better than the one proposed.
  11. Cub fans I know are saying Samardzija will help solidify the Cubs rotation in August. God people are dumb.
  12. I get paid tomorrow and I'll donate what I can afford. Thanks for all the hard work here Brian.
  13. The difference between a pitcher who gets a 4 year 40 million dollar deal (Meche, Marquis) and a pitcher who has to wait until March to get a minor league deal and an invitation to big league camp is very very very small. Weaver is VERY close to being that guy who gets the minor league deal. It is no wonder he wants 4 years 40 million. That would be a GREAT deal for him. If it werent for the fact that the Cards made the playoffs last year he would be the minor league deal type (or Joel Pineiro at best). To sum up, why does Weaver want to get locked in at average pitcher rates for 4 years? Because he is so very close to being so bad that he is out of baseball, that is why, and nowhere near being a 15 million dollar a year type pitcher. So the benefit of going for a one year deal at 5 million in hope of landing a bigger contract next year (bigger than 4 years/40million) is very small as it has almost no chance of happening for him, while the chances that he sucks and is out of baseball is much greater.
  14. I still can't believe that any team is interested in Johnson at the age of 43, that they'd give up ANYTHING to get him, and that they would pay any more than half of his 16 million dollar price tag. Oh, and the extension part is just hilarious.
  15. Seriously. Lock it, Archive it. Someone add a picture of a cheese sandwhich.
  16. The Royals need young talent. I think Sweeney's contract is up after this year and Tehan might already be a better player than Sweeney. I can't see them shipping Tehan out or us having space for him.
  17. Weeks improvement in defense the month or so before he got hurt? I dont know. All I am saying is that improving the defense isnt the worst thing in the world, especially at a low cost and/or getting rod of Clark.
  18. Greg Aquino - the next Mike Matthews? Anyway, remember the last WINNING Brewers team? Yeah, the one with 256 SBs, outstanding defense and great pitching? Now, Im not a Taveras fan, but if there is ONE thing that this club does need it is help on Defense. The one thing that is nice about defense is that it actually can make our pitching appear to better. One final thought....how many OFs would we have now? 7?? Yikes.
  19. Im starting to come around on Suppan. Especially if they front load the contract like I suggested above.
  20. Clarks career OPS is .747 and he is likely to be much worse than that in 2007. Crisp's career OPS is .745 and is likely to be better than that in 2007. I'd say that the difference is likely to be 75-100 OPS points between the two players if both played full time CF in 2007.
  21. Maybe when they finished 14th overall he forgot what he was doing.
  22. That is like the Rangers outbidding the Braves by 90 million to land A-Rod. Suppan gets 4 years 45 million, tops, and that could be from the Rockies. I wouldnt got any higher than 4 years/44 million, and I might even front load his contract so it looks like 2007: 14 millio 2008: 12 million 2009: 10 million 2010: 8 million That way he wont hurt us as much if we want to resign Hall, Cappy, or Sheets and if he stinks we it is easier to trade him.
  23. HEADLINES FROM THE FUTURE!!!! July 15, 2008 BREWERS, MELVIN NEED TO MOVE SUPPAN BEFORE RESIGNING SHEETS Milwaukee - AP - When asked about the possibility of resigning All Star starting pitcher Ben Sheets to a contract extension prior to his current contract expiring at the end of the season Milwaukee Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin stated that the club would first need to move some salary, possible Jeff Suppan and the remaining 20 million dollars he is owed through 2010. "We would really like to keep Sheeter around," Melvin admitted, "but first we need to clear a little salary." Suppan, 33, was signed by the Brewers prior to the start of the 2007 season for 4 years, 40 million dollars. In 2007 Suppan went 11-13 with a 4.49 ERA and a WHIP of 1.51. So far this season Suppan is 7-6 with an ERA of 4.38. The Brewers are desperate to move Suppan, as holding onto him and his pricey contract would almost certainly mean Sheets would be priced out of Milwaukee this offseason. It's hard to call Suppan a disappointment because he has so far pitched to his career norms, which just are not very much different than average. "I know Benny would like to stay here if the money is equal, but with what we are paying other players I don't see how that is possible," Melvin added, hinting that a player such as Suppan would need to be moved prior to the Brewers resigning Sheets. Sheets, who turns 30 this week, had a breakout year in 2004 and signed a 4 year, 40 million dollar extension himself but battled ear and shoulder ailments through 2005 and 2006, all the while pitching well when healthy. Finally healthy in 2007 he put up a nifty line of 229 IP, a 17-6 record with an ERA of 2.97 and a WHIP of 0.98. So far this season Sheets is 11-2 and just started the All Star game for the NL squad. "We've kind of have a log jam in the rotation right now," said Melvin, "with Ben, Cappy, Bush, Suppan, Gallardo and Villanueva. I can't see us keeping everyone next year."
  24. Well, for what it is worth (not much as the "rumor" was started by some random poster) the Cubs fans, at least from the replies I read, would applaud the move and be happy to have Clark in CF for one season.
