"Absolutely sucks" in my perspective, at least, is someone like Winker who has a negative WAR (or close to it) and has zero value to any team at this point...
Bader has already equaled his fWAR (1.4) from last year (when he was worth someone such as Jordan Montgomery) and still crushes lefties and plays elite CF defense. If the Yankees viewed themselves as a contender or had a plethora of outfield depth (they don't), they wouldn't be making this move. In that light, they're not suddenly going to start adding salary, after having just cleared it, by picking up Giolito for the rest of the season for an extra win or two.
Add these guys to the Angels four and Bader/Donaldson.
As a reminder, the Brewers are currently 25th in the waiver wire pecking order....I can tell you that a fringe contender such as the Reds, which has seen their pitching depth dissipate in recent weeks, is going to be very happy picking up Mike Clevinger for virtually nothing...
The Yankees are just as likely as the A's, Pirates, Cardinals, etc. to pick up these guys at this point.
Bader has not "absolutely sucked", either. He crushes lefties and plays an elite CF. That's useful for most contenders and the Yankees would not have released him otherwise.
They just waived Bader, too. They've waived the white flag on the season and aren't going to pick up the extra salary when they're already in the process of clearing salary.
The Angels, which have a bottom 5 farm system to begin with, just gave up some of their top prospects (one a top 100 prospect) to get these guys....
And are set to lose Ohtani in FA, with an increasingly injured Trout possessing a full no trade clause and Rendon still owed $115 million over the next three seasons....
Yeah. Moore, Lopez, and Giolito are almost certainly going to end up in Miami, Minneapolis, Cincy, San Fran, Phoenix, Boston, or Chicago.
We don't need Renfroe with Canha and TT.
Lol. We're thinking alike.
Giolito would be great, but I feel like he's almost a certainty to get scooped up by one of the outside contenders (Reds, Giants, Dbacks, Cubs, etc.)
He's going to clear waivers due to that price tag. But, once he does, I think the Brewers should be one of the teams involved, as he'd be making league minimum then.
I think we need an option other than playing Turang against LHP, which we don't really have right now. Defense is awesome regardless, but his #s (in a SSS granted) are Wiemer vs. righties esque.

Yankees just released Josh Donaldson. Calf, which has kept him on the IL, is supposedly fully healed. Still has really good QOC #s. xSLG of .538 this season, in a SSS albeit. Crushes LHP historically and allows you to move Monasterio to 2B.
Downside is age and limited positional flexibility.
If they're not going to call up Black, then I say absolutely take the chance. Anderson is wasted space on this roster at this point.
I like how we're in the midst of a 9 game winning streak, with CC being almost universally hailed as the best manager in the game, and you still have posters complaining about his lineups and using words like "clueless" in reference to him.
Wouldn't be shocked to see Canha at 1B tonight if Santana is unavailable again. Remember, DH will be Contreras due to Caratini catching Burnes.
Yelich LF
Contreras DH
Canha 1B
Adames SS
Monasterio 3B
Frelick/Taylor RF
Caratini C
Wiemer CF
Turang 2B (Like why have Anderson on the roster at this point if he's not going to play against LHP?)
If Santana can go, then you'd probably be able to get away with Canha in RF in Wrigley. So, something like:
Yelich LF
Contreras DH
Santana 1B
Adames SS
Canha RF
Monasterio 3B
Caratini C
Wiemer/Frelick CF
Turang 2B
I really like the look of that lineup.
