Yeah, and he's missed what? 3? 4?. How many more plays has he made at 1B, particularly by getting to balls and making outs that the average first baseman doesn't. It's just that that doesn't get magnified like a missed scoop does.
Sure. But not Miller. There's nearly 1000 innings worth of evidence out there. A missed scoop here and there doesn't change that. Adames makes bad throws from time to time (as he did here) and he's a GG caliber SS. More you get the ball, as 1B and SS do, the more opportunities for mistakes.
He's missed like 2-3 scoops. On the other hand, he gets to a lot more balls that the average 1st baseman, including Rowdy, doesn't get to. Scoops are just one part of the overall defensive profile at 1st.
Yeah. Because all you see is the missed scoop. But have you ever focused on his range and the balls he gets to and makes outs on that few other 1B would...That's why the "eye test" is deceiving sometimes, and what advanced stats help highlight. .
Again, Miller has been one of the best defensive 1B in the game the last two years in 800 innings. He's not a defensive liability. That's a fallacy that keeps getting repeated.
Not as much Wiemer because he's shown the power and the ability to hit it hard. Turang doesn't hit it hard, isn't walking, and is striking out a ton. The latter two are particularly concerning as those are things he did really well and was known for in the minors...
Yeah. I’m not saying Miller should be our 1B because his bat isn’t good enough. I’m just saying that Hiura probably isn’t our solution there, either. He’d be better off at DH.
Who would you swap for bullpen arms? I think we should be pretty happy with how our bullpen is set up right now.
Also, trades are rare this far out from the deadline due to the prices. Prices come down closer to the deadline and that’s when trades will happen.
The same thing applies if you extend it across the 800 innings he's played there the last two seasons. It's been his most frequent position in the majors.
He's got excellent range for a first baseman and has gotten to balls that Rowdy could never dream of getting to.
"Eye test" is deceiving, because he's been unable to scoop up a couple of throws, whereas Rowdy was generally able to do that well. But there's much more to fielding the position.
